InDesign doc from multiple other InDesign docs.

Hi, everyone.
I need to create an InDesign document using other existing InDesign documents I have already created. The documents are single individual pages each and I would like to merge them all into a single document ordering the pages in a certain sequence. In case this is possible I would prefer to create some type of smart link or external referencing to the individual documents instead of embedding them so that as I edit the individuals documents the changes also appear in the final compiled document. Also the single page InDesign documents are in landscape orientation but the final compiled one will likely be in portrait orientation.
Is there a way to accomplish this in InDesign ? Can I link the pages on my compiled document to the external InDesign single page docs and also have them appeared rotated on the final compiled version ?

Also, if I had a project like this, I would strongly consider using another tool in addition to InDesign. For example, I might store my content in a database, and flow the content into a number of prepared InDesign templates by importing XML. If I was collaborating with users of MS Office, I might set up my paragraph & character styles extremely carefully, then export RTFs for the Office users, and Import All Text Styles from one document to another in order to maintain standardization. I might store the text in a translation memory tool, and pretend I was translating from English - US to English - Australia in order to flow in my content.
Depending on your expertise with the tools & the details of the effect you're trying to achieve, then either most or all of what you want at the end (multiple docs, different formats, automatic updating) can be done with InDesign, but it can't be done at all in the way you propose to do it.

Yes you can open Writer (the word processing/text module) and use it like a blank word document. You can copy and paste from other sources, import image files, tables and objects and save as PDF.

hello, friend.
assuming that your settings in VTFA and VTFL allow, you can create 1 invoice for many sales orders or deliveries by using VF04. choose all documents that apply and click "collective billing document".
you can also click on "simulation" if you want to test if the combination is possible and the system will give you a split analysis if this is not possible.

I am struggling for a while now with the following workflow:
batch exporting all text (text only) as plain text, from multiple Indesign files, applying and for all the bold and italics (for instance: Molluptas verion nossum idist doluptatet maiorerum quiaspienit, cum erferiosapis eos expe nonsequas verumquae dolor sim eos doluptatiur autet lab idicili beatum deliquat).
Properly tagging the styles, will be too time consuming, as these documents are as old as 1998, have inconsistent untagged styles; it will mean to manually open up each file, assign tags for all styles (not to mention that might be some local overwrites).
This task is necessary to have all the archive, available on wordpress website.
Any feedback would be much appreciated it.

There may well be a script or you may have pay someone to write it. All I can tell you is that any text not mapped to a style will be a mess in the HTML code.
Can’t comment on Quark files. I have no clue what they’re capable of.

Creating pdf from multiple word docs standard 6.0

every time i open standard 6 it says it is
configuring, when i try to create a pdf from multiple files it says " unable to find adobe pdf resource files" running repair does not help,
I have edited prefernces and selected microsoft office, have uninstalled adobe reader 9 and reinstalled but was unable to choose a specific path and still have same issue.

My older iPod Touch has music from another Apple ID, but I have had multiple other Apple IDs and I can't find out which ones they are from. I would also like to know how I can copy the music and have it saved to my computer as an audio file.

You can copy iTunes purchased from a device to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases - if the account is authorised on your computer's iTunes then you should be prompted to authorise it when trying to copy them.
Or there are programs listed half-way down this page which can copy them back : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
You can then add them to your iTunes library via File > Add To Library, again you should be prompted to authorise the account if it's not already authorised.
You can also find the account that a track is tied to be selecting/highlighting it in the My Music part of your library, or the Music section of 'OnMy Device' when you select the device, and doing 'get-info' (command-i) - it will show on one of the tabs on the popup

How do I specify the gmail outgoing server if I have multiple gmail accounts in my mail? I have 2 business accounts and when I send mail from one account, it is sent from the other account and the sending email is not from the correct account.

I love my apple email and do not want to use google mail on safari. However, I have 2 gmail accounts set up on apple mail, but when I send mail from one of my gmail accounts (I choose the specific gmail account in the drop down window), it actually goes out as if it is from the other gmail account. I can't have that happen because one is my job, the other is a personal business account and unfortunately, the mail from both gmail accounts want to send through the personal business account. How do I make it send from a specific gmail account? I even tried deleting the accounts and setting them up again hoping I set it up wrong in the first place, but to no avail, it is still doing the same thing except this time I set the job account up first and then the personal business account and now everything goes from the job account! The only good thing is that the incoming messages work properly and they go into the correct inbox. Somebody please fix my outbox!

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account. The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

Saving string from multiple clients on a server data structue

I have a server which receives updates from multiple clients ( in this example, football scores which are updated periodically by the clients.)
When the server receives the scores it needs to store them and at certain time intervals send the complete list of scores to multiple terminals at various locations.
I am approaching this task in stages...
stage 1.
..create the clients and server ...test the clients can send the data and the server can receive the data and output to screen..
this is completed
stage 2...
a/ on the server side store the received scores in a data structure (ArrayList<String> is what I'm thinking.)
b/ periodically output all scores to the screen (maybe every 30 seconds) and empty the ArrayList..am looking at the Timer class for this part..
stage 3
create the monitors and output scores to monitors periodically..

right now I'm at stage 2a ie trying to store the received scores in a data structure.
i've created a method saveScore in the StoreScore class which is called by the StoreScore run method...
The saveScore method creates an ArrayList and adds the score to it...
Question
does every thread create a new instance of storedScores and therefore the scores are stored in a multitude of data structures?
I think the answer is yes and if so then this is not the solution...
What I'm thinking is , as all scores can be outputted to the server screen via System.out.println, is there not a way of saving all these scores in a single data structure?

I think the answer is yes and if so then this is not the solution...The answer is yes. However, threads can share data, if they were properly synchronized. You should read the threading tutorial before creating a lot of hard to debug mistakes.

Adding Sum Totals from Multiple Tables in A single Document

Hello All,
I'm having trouble adding sum totals from multiple tables I've created in a Pages 09 doc. I putting together a spreadsheet for cost projections for a house remodel. I created tables for each room of the house. At the bottom of the document I'd like to have another table that takes the totals from each individual room and adds them up. Problem appears to be that each table has the same x/y axis labels so row and column numbers/letters are repeated so the final table can't quantify thing correctly.
Any easy solutions? I can't find anything that's helped in my search efforts.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought that might be the case. And you were correct to assume I was more comfortable in Pages. I'm halfway through converting everything to numbers. In the end it will work great too. Just some different formatting/design choices to be made as numbers doesn't appear to be as versatile in the same way pages is with design. So far it looks pretty good though.

Create multiple PDFs from multiple files

Hi everyone
I'm trying to use the "Create multiple PDFs from multiple files" function in Acrobat 9 Pro (version 9.4.6) to create about 100 PDFs from InDesign CS5 files. Theoretically this would do the trick for my purpose. BUT: When running the function, it does not use the CS5 InDesign (version 7.0.3), but tries to open the files with InDesign CS3. Of course this does not work. We, as a professional working agency, have installed CS3, CS4 and CS5. Even with making the InDesign CS3 .app invisible an pushing it into the garbage bin during the process did not work. Acrobat still wants to access InDesign CS3. It is not possible to downgrade the files to CS3 files, for there are special (i.e. interactive) functions which only work in CS5. It would be more work than creating the PDFs manually, anyways.
Does anyone have similar issues? Any ideas how to solve the problem?

Create PDF from Multiple Files Error

Running Acrobat 8.1.2 and InDesign CS3 8.0.2
When trying to create a PDF from multiple files, I am getting an error with each file as it is opened by Acrobat to create the PDF file. The error reads:
Invalid value for parameter 'using' of event 'exportFile'. Expected PDFExportPreset, but received "Standard".
The files are also left open in InDesign afterward instead of being closed. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Exporting Text from multiple text boxes?

I'm using InDesign CS3 on the Macintosh. I need to export text from multiple text boxes/stories into one text file. The Export File command only exports text when the text tool is selected and the cursor is in the text box. Unfortunately, I have 8-20 individual text boxes per page, none are linked, and my document is 100+ pages, so selecting each text box individually is much too time consuming. There must be a better way - Please help!

The text exporter plug-in seems to work! I did a quick test - text still will need some clean-up to make sure it's in the correct order, but MUCH better than exporting each story individually. THANKS!
