InDesign docs won't print on Epson CX 6600

Interesting problem. Computer is a "basketball" iMac 17" LCD G4 with OSX 10.3.9. Tried to print to an Epson CX6600 multifunction printer/scanner/copier, after the CX5200 died. Sending the 6600 any doc done in InDesign stalls to "Jobs Stopped" after spooling to the printer.
The 6600 prints fine from most every other app on my computer (MSWord, Internet browsers, Appleworks, PDFs, etc.) It even prints fine from the other parts of the Adobe CS suite, such as Photoshop, but not InDesign or Illustrator. All my InDesign docs printed fine on the previous CX5200, which was plug & play from the moment we brought it home. The same InDesign docs also print fine on our workhorse B/W HP printers, but we need to print in color now. We have added nothing new in the way of fonts, etc. Plus we've run Printer Setup Repair and other fix programs to insure all permissions were OK. One place on the Adobe site says it is basically a known problem with Illustrator and In Design on this Epson and several other models, and all they offer for the "fix" is to "make sure you print from the Adobe pull down file menu". Does that come under "duh?" or am I seriously missing something? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
Also, Any suggestions on a good trouble-free color printer? Perhaps laser this time? Tried a Xerox 6120 and had nothing but continuous problems. Xerox tried but was of little or no help, but they did replace three of them before we threw in the towel. Thanks again!

It seems to be related to your printer, maybe it doesn't have a Postscript emulator. Test print a pdf to it.
Have you updated your printer drivers, Apple regularly has new downloads in its software support pages, and also been to Canon's website to see if there are any reported issues?

  • InD CS6 doc won't print or export to PDF

Hi, I'm having a problem with my document:
    304 pages
Using master frames and master page items (page numbers and running heads, about 25 master spreads in all)
6 or so pages suddenly had an enormous pasteboard and the text on these pages disappeared (but did not reflow onto the next available page)
I deleted these affected pages, the text automatically reflowed and I added in new pages at the end of the doc to accommodate the overset text.
I also deleted the master pages that were assigned to the 6 affected pages and recreated them
The Indesign doc looks "fixed" but won't print or PDF. The error message is here:
I sent the file to a colleague and it appeared to work fine on her computer.
I also copied all the text that was in linked text frames (about 280 pages worth) and copied it into a new document. The new document also has master text frames but no other master page items. The new doc also won't print or PDF.
Sending the file to my colleague is a work-around that will do for today but I need the file to behave before I send it to the printer.
    Any help?
    Thanks!

    Yup, tried that
I have found a bit of a work around: I PDF'd the first half with no problem, then I tried to PDF the second half - this failed.
Then I PDF'd chapter by chapter until I found that chapter 12 was giving the error message, so I copied and pasted the chapter into a new document and PDF'd that.
The I combined the PDFs into one document in Acrobat.
It's a solution of sorts but still doesn't completely solve the problem of the original working file.
Thanks for the help! Happy holidays!

  • Indesign CS5 won't print specific pages within document

I'm working on Indesign CS5. The issue is with a specific document, and just started happening on version 11. All previous versions of the file have printed with no problems. I have so far determined that it is a document level problem as I can print other documents in Indesign with no issues. I have also determined which pages are giving me an error message: I can print all but one spread of this 16-page document. For example, it will print pages 1-9 and 12-16, but will not print 10-11. It gives it a try, and then gives me an error message box that just reads "error: " with no code or explaination. Any one else out there experienced this or know what's going on? There's no overset text, unlinked graphics or missing fonts, if that helps. Also, I'm working on a mac.
Edit: I have also already tried different print settings, and repasting everything into a new document that I created.

If that doesn't work, move the pages from spread to a new document so you can play without risking the file you have now. First, try to print the spread as-is, then if it doesn't print remove half the objects and try again. If the file prints without removing anything, then move all the pages fromthe old file to a new one and save with a new name, then try again. If you have to remove objects, there is probably a problem with one of the objects on the spread. You'll bew able to isolate it very fast by dividing the group of things that won't print in half, then dividing the half that won't print, and so on.

  • Imac won't print to epson 1270

My imac won't print, stating that there is not enough RAM.
It is running 640mb, 100% of which is available to Photoshop.
This happens to both the 1270 and my R200. the OS is 10.3.9.
My ibook is more than happy to print to both printers despite only having 128mb of Ram!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    You're Welcome Gari!
The driver on the disc may be outdated. Did you uninstall the older driver before trying to install the newer, downloaded one?
If nothing else resolves the problem, and you need help doing that, I can post the instructions.
"...stating that there is not enough RAM."
OS X uses Dynamic Memory Allocation, so I am puzzled that you are getting that message.
What is the exact error message?
How much of the RAM is original, and how much is added?
Is Classic running when you are trying to print?
Do the printers function from any applications, other than Photoshop?
You can also use Rember to test your RAM.
"My ibook is more than happy to print to both printers..."
Are you printing from Photoshop with the iBook?
Have you deleted the printers from the Printer List in Printer Setup Utility, and then re-added them?
Have you trashed the printer & Photoshop pref files from:
HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences: HERE?

  • Developing InDesign docs for both print and web

I develop InDesign documents for offset printing but now the organisation wants to drag itself into the 21st century by also putting these same documents up on the web (as interactive web pages that respond to user input). I am looking for a broad outline of the best way to tackle this, just so that I don't waste too much time trying to learn the wrong technology or the wrong software.
I have started to tag my documents with XML, so I am thinking that the route to the web is from InDesign to XML then via XSLT or CSS to XHTML. Is that the best and/or only way to do it? I assume DreamWeaver will also feature in the equation at some point.
These documents are test questions. They are pretty simple. All the paras will have para styles but there will be some overrides of the font like bold, italic, underline, subscript, superscript. Presumably these all need to be tagged with XML, perhaps using character styles? There are lots of inline graphics (ai and psd files) that will have to be converted to png, I guess. I also have attached metadata via XML attributes and I want that metadata to get to the web page and help direct the action based on user input (like which answer they give to a question).
Since I have always worked on print documents, I don't know XSLT, CSS, XHTML or even HTML so I just want to get started on the right foot.
Any suggestions welcome, including perhaps good tutorials or other resources. And obviously I want to automate this process as much as possible using scripts.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
I wanted to do the same at my work, but my boss didn’t allow me this. So, I have a general idea about how to do it, but have no chance to implement it into a working solution. In my opinion you answered correctly to your own questions and you are on the right track.
As to tutorials and resources, I couldn't find much information on the subject so far.
The best tutorial I know about is in this book:
    http://www.amazon.com/Designers-Guide-Adobe-InDesign-XML/dp/0321503554
    (Chapters 9-11)
    See also this tutorial:
    http://indesignsecrets.com/how-to-export-basic-html-out-of-cs2.php
    All the
paras will have para styles but there will be some overrides of the font like
bold, italic, underline, subscript, superscript. Presumably these all need to
be tagged with XML, perhaps using character styles?
There are a couple of ready to use scripts that do this — you can run such a script and then Map Styles to Tags.
    There
    are lots of inline graphics...
That's good — inline graphics are better then stand alone ones for XML export.
    I don't
know XSLT, CSS, XHTML or even HTML so I just want to get started on the right
    foot.
The above mentioned book gives you basics on all these topics, but it's not enough — you'll need a good book on Dreamweaver as well. I'd recommend you Dreamweaver CS3 The Missing Manual Series.

  • InDesign 3.0.1 "CS" won't print to Epson 2200 under Mac OS X 10.5.7

Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.7 my old inDesign, version 3.0.1 in the original CS release, refuses to print. In the Print dialog box, Print Settings area, the Media Type and Ink options are grayed out. A message in the same Print Settings area tells me the ink cartridge combination has been changed and I should delete the printer from the Printer List in the (now defunct) Printer Setup Utility and add the printer again. Have deleted and re-added through the current Print & Fax panel, to no avail. This problem happens only with inDesign. Help!!

Problem solved! I should have checked this first .. downloaded a newer driver from Epson.

PDFs (Adobe Reader 10.1.4) will not print to my Epson 545 from my Mac (OS 10.6.8). Other apps print fine, only Adobe won't, and it provides a printer error "err number 13", which seems to mean there is no paper (there is paper tho' - lots). I've followed instructions from other threads for other Epson models but to no avail. Any one got a solution? Thanks.

  • InDesign CS3 won't print – neither Acrobat

when trying to print any file to my new epson printer WF 7515 - but the print is cancelled with this message; "pstopdffilter/pstocupsraster failed with err number 13".
I have an IMac with Mac Os 10.5.8 - no problem when printing from other computers with previous OS, nor from different software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Libre Office or Preview - and even from InDesign CS5
any suggestions? I still have to use CS3 for some projects, and I really need to solve this printing issue
    thanks

    Hi there,
Don't use Preview to view/print PDFs. Use Acrobat, or at the very least, Reader. You can set all your PDFs to automatically with Acrobat by selecting a file in the Finder, and choosing "Get Info" (or command + i). In the window that appears, towards the middle, you'll see a pull-down menu for "Open with". Choose Adobe Acrobat (or Adobe Reader if you don't have Acrobat), and then click the "Change All" button. From then on, all your PDFs will bypass Preview and open with the application you chose in the "Get Info" window.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers!

  • InDesign CS3 won't print

Running IDCS3 on powermac G5 OS 10.4.11. (all up to date) Since upgrading to CS3 I haven't been able to print to my Epson Stylus photo 2100. The job spools then appears in the printer queue with the words "JOB STOPPED" at the top.
If I try to restart the job, it seems to start with the stripy progress bar doing it's thing, then it stops again - either with no comment, or with the comment: "The process "pictwpstops" stopped unexpectedly with status 1"
Have tried generating a PDF and printing that, but that doesn't work either.
Indesign CS2 still works fine and so does Photoshop CS3.
    Any clues.... please.....

  • Macbook won't print to epson DX4850

I my new macbook 2 weeks ago and am trying to hook up my Epson all-in-one 4850 printer.
Basically I can't seem to install a driver. I've lost the original cd...so tried to download from the epson website for my model and for my macs operating system. The file it downloads is .sit and when it expands through stuffit, it says its a microsoft word document , when its supposed to be an installer driver. When you click to open it, it just opens up my word application, but no document actually opens. I've tried opening it with installer but it ain't having it.
I called epson. The guy on the phone was using the same mac as me and when he downloaded the driver it worked fine. He said it was some setting on my mac that needs to be changed.
So I called apple, and they were hopeless- they said epson must not have the right driver and told me to call epson.
    Any idea whats going on?!?!?
When I connect the printer the print center realises theres an epson DX4850 connected but then it asks me to choose a driver from its list, and there isn't one for my model.
    Any one help?
    cheers

I tried to figure out how to get drivers from Apple but their documentation is not very clear -- especially for someone new to Mac after decades of PC use. Finally I scratched that and called Epson. An hour and a half on the phone with Epson and finally it works again. Had to remove all the Epson files and then force the computer to find the drivers Apple had. I wish that the Apple articles would have been as clear on how to do this!
    Thanks for the responses.

  • Iphoto won't print to Epson Photomate Delux

I can print to my Epson Photomate Delux using PREVIEW and from PHOTOSHOP, but NOT from iphoto. When I try to print from iphoto, the pics go on hold in the print box. I have tried to hit RESUME, but it just goes back on hold. One other thing, the pics that load from PS or PREVIEW show their names, but the ones that import from iphoto all say "untitled."
Why can't iphoto talk to my printer? It used to work (I haven't used the printer in several months). I've downloaded new drivers, restarted everything, blah, blah, blah...all to the same result. Any thoughts? I'm plugged in using a USB cable.
    Thanks

One more thing, if the queue is stalled with multiple pics from different programs (PS, PREVIERW, ihphoto) printing will begin again after I delete the "untitled" pics from iphoto.
    Thanks.

  • ILife won't Print to Epson PictureMate

I just love iPhoto, but I can't get it to print to my Epson PictureMate. The PictureMate prints from memoery cards and will print a nozzle check from the iMac, but it goes through the motions of printing then indicates that it is 'Stopped'. The primter icon in the Dock shows a red exclamation mark!

I too was troubled by this issue, and after the second attempt got this response from Epson which solved the problem.
Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.
Please try the following to resolve the issue that you are having.
    DEVICE REMOVAL
    1.  Open the MAC HARD DRIVE, APPLICATIONS folder, UTILITIES folder, PRINTER

    3.  Close the PRINTER SETUP UTILITY.
    REMOVE FILES
    1.  Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
    2.  Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
    3.  Double click on the PRINTERS folder.
    4.  Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can.
NOTE If you receive an access denied error message, this indicates that
you do not have root access. You will need to contact Apple for assistance
    on obtaining Root Access.
    5.  Close any open windows.
    6.  Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
    7.  Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
    8.  Double click on the RECEIPTS folder.
    9.  Delete any Epson Receipts.
    10. Close all windows that are open, and restart your computer.
NOTE: The following procedure will remove all printers that you have
installed on your computer. If you have multiple printers on your system,
you will need to re-add all your printers once this is complete.
    1. Make sure that your printer is turned on and connected to your computer.
    2. Open the HARD DRIVE, go into the APPLICATIONS, and select the UTILITIES
    folder.
    3. Double click on the PRINTER SETUP UTILITY. Click on the PRINTER SETUP
UTILITY Menu option at the top of the screen and click on RESET PRINTING
SYSTEM. Click on RESET when prompted and then enter your system password.
This will remove all printer drivers in the list and you will have to add
all of them again. Now download the current printer driver.
    DOWNLOAD
Please follow the steps below to download and install your printer in OS X:
    1. Go to the website http://support.epson.com
    2. Under the PRINTERS heading select Ink Jets and then your printer model.
    3. Under the Drivers & Downloads section select Macintosh. Download the
most current version of the Printer Driver for your Macintosh operating
    system.

    1. After download is complete, double click the icon that appears on your
desktop, then click CONTINUE, then CONTINUE again, then OK on the
    INSTALLATION WAS SUCCESSFUL screen.
    2. Open the new folder created by the extraction process.  It will appear
something like  epson1XXXX (X represents variable numbers).
    3. When you open this folder, you will find a file with a .DMG extension -
double-click it. This will create another icon on the desktop with the name
of your printer. Double-click to open the DISK IMAGE file.
NOTE: In most OS 10.3 systems the installer will perform this step
automatically and you will see an INSTALLER.PKG file.
    4. Double click the INSTALLER.PKG file to start the installation process.
    5. The next menu will prompt you to ensure that you have Administrator
Rights to install the printer driver.  Click on the lock (if necessary) and
    enter your password.
    6. The actual installation process will begin.  Click CONTINUE, then
CONTINUE again at the SOFTWARE AGREEMENT window, then CONTINUE again, then
    AGREE.
    7. You will be prompted to select a disk to install the printer to. Select
the appropriate Macintosh HD or OS X drive or partition and click CONTINUE.
    8. In the next window that appears, click INSTALL.
    9. You may be informed that the computer needs to be restarted after
installation; click CONTINUE INSTALLATION here.  The driver will now be
installed and the system optimized. Restart the computer when install is
    complete.
    Configuration
    1.  Make sure that your printer is turned on and connected to your
    computer.
    2.  Open the HARD DRIVE, go into the APPLICATIONS, and select the UTILITIES
    folder.
    3.  Double click on the PRINTER SETUP UTILITY. If your printer is listed
correctly, close out of the windows and test your printer, as it is already
    installed.
    4.  Click the Add tab at the top of the Printer Browser window and then
select More Printers tab at the bottom of the Printer Browser window and
then select  Epson USB and then select your printer under Product Name. If
applicable select the arrow by the Standard option under the Page Setup
option and select the All option. If not simply click on ADD.
    5.  Close out of any open windows and test your printer. Please make sure
that you select the correct printer in the page setup and print menu of the
    application.
