Indesign doesn't find my documents

Hi... I am using Indesign CC 2014.
When I want to open a document and search for a part of it#s name (like "flyer") there are no results shown.
Even if I have at least 50 of such documents on my Mac.
Second issue is: When I make a new form like a rectangle or I import a vector eps or image it creates automatically a "Flow around" (I don't know the expression in English)
Pleas help...!

I can't help with the search function (but there are other threads about that here), but if "text wrap" is being applied to all objects when created it mean it has been set as the default (accidentally, I'm sure). With no object selected, open the Text Wrap panel and choose the button on the left for no wrap. This will fix the current document. If it happens in new documents, too, then you must close all files and repeat the process with no files open.
Most defaults in InDesign are set this way -- make a setting with nothing selected and it becomes the new default.

  • Indesign CC doesn't find and highlight links when trying to relink!!

I was so excited to see all the customizable options in my new InDesign CC, until I tried to relink a file from the links palette and CC doesn't find and highlight the file anymore like it used to do with 4 and 5!!
As a prepress operator dealing with hundreds of clients and manipulating files all day long, this feature was a great blessing.
Hope it's just a glitch and somebody is fixing it or I'll have to go back to 5

I have been using InDesign 2, 3, 4, 5 and 5.5 with all OSX up to 10.6.8 and always had that feature. Some say the problem is Lion, some say is InDesign 6 and up. I'm back to 5.5 anyway because CC is way too slow with my old Mac G5.

  • InCopy workflow in InDesign: Is there a way to find the document in which an ICML file has NOT been checked IN again before saving the doc?

    The situation:
We are working with the InCopy feature (checking in and checking out ICML files).
    The problem:
I might have saved a document with an ICML file still checked out.
    The question:
Is there a way to find out which document was saved with the ICML file still checked out?
    or in other words:
Is there a way to find the document in which an ICML file has NOT been checked IN again before saving the doc?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hello Sumit Singh,
thank you for your answer and your reasonable recommendation. Unfortunately, this only works when the ICML content is used in one INDD file. In our case, we use ICML content in multiple docs (various manuals with the same safety instructions, warranties, adresses etc.).
So, is there a way to trace back where an ICML has been used?
Is it possible to find out in which document the ICML is still checked out?

  • My ipad doesn't find my printer....

How do I make my hp 3510 discoverable to my ipad? The wireless printing works from my laptop which has the same wifi settings, but the ipad cannot find the printer????

    Hi Kiwisteve77,
I understand the Ipad doesn't find the printer.
    Thank you for your reply.
I will be happy to help you with this.
Try turning the wi-fi off and on again on the Ipad.
If that doesn't work turn the Ipad off and on again.
Check to make sure it is connected to the proper network.
Power cycle the router, Ipad and the printer and try it again if you are still having issues.
I have provided a document for How to Use Apple's AirPrint Over a Wireless Network. Go to the section What if a 'No AirPrint Printers Found' message displays on my Apple device?

So, I'm about to loose all of my iTunes library, work documents (I'm a lawyer!!), my kid's photos.... How can I restore my files?? Help!!

Since you seem to be using a new disk for Lion, Time Machine will consider previous backups to be for a "different" computer.  Try doing a control-click or click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".  This should allow Time Machine to see the previous backups.
In the worst case you should be able to open those Time Machine backups and copy your documents from there to your home folder.

  • "An error has occurred: Could not find the document." on opening the BO report

    Hi ,
On publishing the BO report in Portal, we get the blank screen with warning message as below screenshot and  facing the ""An error has occurred: Could not find the document."" error message when accessing the BO report using open document URL directly in browser instead of portal.
    Link: http://<host>:8080/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?sIDType=CUID&iDocID=ASClVc_yw55L
We already have many BO reports successfully running in the production environment.
But for this new report we are getting this error. The difference found in this report is from Infoviewapp the login page appears as below in to which the developer logs in.
But for the reports coming with error the login page authentication value is changed to "Enterprise". So the system related fields disappear after that and looks like below
Please let us know the root-cause of this error message. Is this something to do with user authorization in BO system at report level or some config changes related to SAP/Enterprise authentication.
Multiple posts in SDN related to this error message points to check for user authorizations in BO system. Please provide details on this if this is the case.

    Hi ,
The dropdown is now made visible to the users in the opendocument property as per the suggestion in the below links. The user can choose the authentication type and login into reports after that.

My question now is after changing the visibility of the authentication true, the SSO doesn't work as before. Is there any way to make the SSO available with this setup ?

  • Spotlight doesn't find files after Time Machine re-load

So I just got a new macbook pro and transferred everything from my old laptop onto it using Time Machine, which worked amazingly ... only weird thing now is when i search in the Finder Search bar or in Spotlight, it doesn't find any files that were on my old computer. I can find them manually, for example, I can be looking at a file called "house-info.rtf" in my Documents folder, but if i search "house" or even "house-info" it comes up with 0 results.
Any new file (I've made or downloaded on my new machine) comes up fine in the search, it's just files from my previous computer moved over via time machine...
    any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Time Machine does not save Spotlight's index, so your drive has to be re-indexed. It may be that it just hasn't "caught up" yet. Give it some time.
If you're pretty sure it just hasn't done it, you can usually get Spotlight to re-index by excluding your internal HD from Spotlight (System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy) for a few moments, then removing the exclusion. That should make it start over.

  • EasyFind Not Easy and Doesn't Find

Along with many others, I became frustrated with Spotlight's unreliable searches. As suggested, I installed Spotless and EasyFind. I disabled Spotlight.
I've recently encountered several clear, replicable instances of EasyFind's inability to find simple documents, stored in obvious locations.
Further investigation seems to indicate EasyFind does not reliably find files unless I check "files and folders", even though I have no need to search for folders.
This has shaken my confidence in EasyFind. In addition, it's awfully slow and doesn't search by date.
I have the most recent version of EasyFind.
    What alternative is recommended?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim
    533 mhz dual CPU G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

To answer my own question, it appears that EasyFind has a bug in it. For instance, I was recently searching for a word processor document called "father's day.letter". When EasyFind couldn't find it, I eventually found it manually.
Trial and error showed that if I check "only files" and search for "father's" or "father" the document doesn't show up with EasyFind. If I check "files & folders" then EasyFind does find it, though it takes a few minutes.
Maybe EasyFind will be satisfactory, now that I know how to work around the bug, or quirk, or whatever it is.
I think I'll try a multi-pronged approach to Spotlight headaches. Apparently there is no ideal solution, for now. I don't want to revert to Panther.
So, I'm forcing SpotLight to re-index about once a week, or whenever it can't find something I know is there. I use Spotless to force the re-index. I'll continue to use EasyFind as a supplement or backup to Spotlight, and now I've added NotLight to the arsenal.
That's not ideal, but it will probably work.
    Cheers,
    Tim
P.S. Apple -- if you're lurking -- in the next revision of Spotlight, give the user a re-index option, and give the user a choice of what volumes are to be re-indexed. An intelligent alert that says, "It's time to re-index Spotlight" would be appreciated. Also give the user the option of turning off index-by-content and search-by-content. I just don't need that feature. It bogs down my computer and clogs up my hard disk.

  • CS5 Bridge can't find my "Documents" folder

I'm running CS5 on Windows 7 64 bit, downloaded after purchase, if that makes any difference.
"My Documents" is available from the Favoritestab in Bridge, but I can't find My Documents or Documents anywhere in the "Folders" tab, which I would rather use, since its faster to browse a multilevel folder system this way.
I know that My Documents doesn't really exist in Windows 7 and it's more like a mirrored folder or something to help with compatibility, so I wasn't too surprised that it didn't exist in the Folders tab, but usually I can find Documents under C:/Users/MyName/Documents, but that folder doesn't show up either.
Does anyone else have this problem?  Any ideas what might be causing it?

(Repost from "Can't Find My Pictures Folder in Bridge..." with corrections after further testing)
Holy SMOKES, I think I have an ANSWER - or at least enough of one so you can find your "My Pictures" folder.
I've been able to see my account's "My Pictures" folder with Bridge since I started using CS5 in December 2010. For some reason when I started using it again today (Aug. 7, 2011) I could not see it in the Folders panel any more.
My Account's root folder used to appear in the Folders panel under the Desktop folder in the tree. From there I could unfold the tree to the "My Pictures" folder under my account root and off we'd go. Then it wasn't there any more. Despite this I could click on the folder path breadcrumbs field in the upper left corner of the Bridge window and paste the path and see it, and even set it as a Favorite that I could double click in the Favorites panel, but it would not display in the Folders panel. WTF?
What I found was that in my previous session in Bridge I had unchecked the "Show Hidden Files" option in the View menu of Bridge. Once I checked that option again I was able to see my account's root folder under the Desktop folder in the Folders Panel.
So if you can no longer see "My Documents" or "My Pictures" in your Folders panel, go to the View menu and check the "Show Hidden Files" option. It's a good bet you will suddenly see your Account folder show up under the Desktop as soon as you do it.
(Note that I still cannot not find my account when I use the Folder panel to navigate to the C:\Users folder. When i go in that way all I can see is the Public folder. I think it's always been like that, as if Adobe cannot keep up with the latest Windows OS changes. Be that as it may, by checking "Show Hidden Files" you can at least get to your "My Pictures" with the Folders panel by going down from the Desktop node.)

  • Spotlight doesn't find html files

I'm a web developer. I have thousands of ".html" files, such as "india.html"
    Spotlight won't find them.
It does find "india.cfm" files so I'll assume the problem is the html extension.
If I Show All in Finder it does them ... in a Find window section called "Developer" ... which doesn't appear in Spotlight, or is a choice in Spotlight Preferences.
This used to work. I'm now using 10.9.5. I don't know at which update it stopped working ... I don't perform this often but when I do it's critical.
I've repaired permissions and reindexed the drive (twice, by adding and removing the drive from Spotlight index preferences).
    Thanks.

    A test...
Made a plain text file, saved to desktop, apple.html. Spotlight doesn't find it. Duplicated it. Change the name to apple.txt. Spotlight immediately finds it.
Spotlight is having a problem with html.
Checked the Spotlight RichText.mdimporter and it has:

  • I converted to iCloud from mobile me, how do I find my documents?

I converted to iCloud from mobile me, how do I find my documents?  Apple support said I should upgrade to Mountain Lion but still can't figure out how to get to my documents - any ideas?

    AndrewJWilson wrote:
Can you please explain further, I don't understand - I don't know what you mean by iDisk?
Then we are talking at cross purposes. The iDisk was part of MobileMe - online storage for files. You would know if you'd uploaded files there because you had to do it manually. Your mention of iCloud in the original post implied that this might have been the case, but from what you now say I gather that this is nothing to do with online storage. That's a relief.
The first part of my original answer is relevant where iWork and TextEdit files are concerned. As far as other files are concerned, iCloud doesn't come into it.
Your files will be wherever you saved them, probably in the Documents folder. You will probably find it simpler to deal with this if instead of using the Documents icon in the Dock you start with a Finder window. In the sidebar you should see a 'Documents' icon - click this once to open the folder. You can now see the folders in it and look for your files.
Is this not the apple support team?
This is a user-to-user forum. To contact Support, go to http://expresslane.apple.com and work through the subjects. Unless you have AppleCare as a result of your having recently bought hardware they will probably want to charge you for a consultation. There are also contact details in the link at the bottom right of this page, though you probably won't find telephone support.

  • Indesign CS6 crashes opening some documents

    Hi,
updated to Yosemite today and realise that Indesign CS6 crashes opening some documents.
Anyone has same issue with me? Two people from my team updated to Yosemite and have same issue.
Thinking of downgrade to Maverick but with no luck...
    Please help.
    Thank you.

I find InDesign CS6 is running incredibly slowly and erratically (constantly producing the spinning rainbow fruit gum of death) ever since I 'upgraded' to Yosemite. Has anyone at Apple remembered that the original users (loyal as we once were) all used Macs and now all use InDesign?? This upgrade has caused all kinds of problems with Font Explorer (forcing me to upgrade that), Illustrator wouldn't load without some Java plug in ... Can't wait to retire and have done with all this nonsense.

Pages 2 is iWork '06, two versions behind what the iOS Pages creates. You need to use Pages '09 which you can purchase from the Mac App Store as a stand-alone application or a retail box of the iWork '09 suite.

When I launch I photo it wants me to choose a library but it doesn't find one which is impossible, because i still have no storage. before i can clean up i want to back up them. how can i find my library?

You may very well have damaged your library - or even your system by not having adaquate storage available
And never select all of the pitcture and move them - that will destroy your library - the iPhotolibrary is a SQLite database and must always be kept intact as a single entity -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
