Indesign Error

Hi Guys,
Need some help. One of our machines has got Adobe CS 5.5. Indesign keeps crashing randomly.
Can't figure out why. It has gor the latest patch. The box is Windows XP SP 3 with a 1 Gb DDR3 graphics card in it.

Can you select all Links in the Links Panel
Use the Flyout Menu on the top right of panel.
Choose "Utilities>Copy Links to"
And see if that works.

CS6 InDesign error on 3 different PC's

I have 3 different PC's for 3 different users and all are having InDesign errors. I understand that Adobe does not offer post-buy support and thus need a support contract to resolve these issues. Insofar I have received a quote of $36 per support incident but further questions as to what other options for extended support exist have resulted in all my phone calls being disconnected or hung up on by Adobe support personnel. What support options does Adobe offer and who do I need to call to get this information?

Incompatible with Adobe InDesign (Error code: 14)

Hi all,
I've been having major problems with InDesign CS3 and OS 10.5. It always crashes when I try to Place, Export, Save As, anything that requires it to navigate the finder.
Now, while trying to export to PDF, the document froze. So I had to force quit it. Now ANY InDesign file I try to open gives me the error message:
The file "file name" is incompatible with Adobe InDesign (Error code: 14).
Has anyone experienced this? I'm now stuck as I cannot open anything to get some work done.

I have the excat same problem. Indesign CS5 and also my CS4 comes op with the error code 14.
It qrashes before I get into the program, also when I open it throug the program Icon and not the file.
I have tried:
Restarting
Shot down and take out the power cord for severeal minutes
Deleting the preference files "Defaults" and "SavedData" manualy
Deleting the file "InfoPlist.Strings" in folder "itlproj" which was a folder that keept showing on restart. (it was a italian languae to a dropdown shadow throug Flash CS5)
Remove indesign CS5 and CS4 (with the program uninstall icon) and reinstalled it
I have no clue to what more I can do. Think it could be a system fault. I have the following:
Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
Dual core Intel Xeron
Snow leopard
It just suddenly didnt work. Couldnt copy paste text from a mail into a file in Indesign and then it just crashed. Havent installed any new updates or programs so it is very weird.
Any help would be very much appriciated

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. Entry point errors are system errors with missing libraries (DLL/ Dylib) or "bad" drivers down to incompatible processors.

Indesign Error Unknown exception

On our server system we are running a Indesign to transfer the files from the network into media bank.
So our server is on most of the time.
When it trys to transfer files after a certain period of time indesign crashes and it gives out this error
Indesign.error unknown software expcetion (0x40000015) offucred in the application at location 0x1064b989
I've read a few of the posts here clearing the perference files, we have a simple restart script that clears everything and deletes the files to make things run smoother. I know that the 0x40000015 error is a run time error from either memory or the program itself.
Is there any suggestions or solutions to these errors or will i have to always run my script and kill the svhost as well?

Well, I am happy to say I found a solution. Although I had used Font Expert to check my fonts, and it had said none of them were corrupted, I went back and looked at all of them, one at a time, and found several that wouldn't load correctly. When I uninstalled them and rebooted, ID started up. I guess I should have done that first, and not trusted Font Expert to do it for me.

DDE Server Windows: Indesign error

Hi all,
There's one computer at the office which is giving this error when closing InDesign CS5: DDE server windows:Indesign application error
The instruction at 0x00918063.......
This seems to happen if a file is opened and closed without saving, the program will exit and after 2 sec. the error pops up.
Searched the forums and there seem to be more people with this problem(in Photoshop CS5), but on the Photoshop forum they say they can't help with Indesign errors(altough it looks more like a general CS5 error).
Specs of the computer:
Windows XP profesional SP 3
3 GB RAM
Dual Core processor
Enough disk space
Adobe Design Suite CS5 latest updates installed.
Anyone else have this problem and got a fix for it?

I am receiving the same error on two PCs. One with a
new install of InDesign CS5 and the other is an upgraded from In
Design CS4.
The upgrade PC does have an instance of InDesign CS3 installed.
It appears to happen only when exiting (no save or change) and has no effect on the program or data files.
Both PCs are Dell Optiplex 755s, 2 GB of Memory, 250 GB HDD (more than 3/4 free) Windows XP sp3 with all critical patches applied.
Any Fix?

Adobe Illustrator and InDesign Error code 16 - Help!!!!

I installed Adobe Illustrator and InDesign on Windows 8.1. They worked great until I closed the programs and tried to open them up again. I now get the error code 16. I re-installed several times now and each time I close either one of the programs and reopen, I get the same error code 16. I've done a clean uninstall and re-install and I've followed the procedures about ensuring that file permissions were correct. No luck.
Please Help!!!!!!

I removed the ObjectModel.dll to recreate it and got the same error. Completed a clean with the CS cleanup tool and downloaded/installed a fresh copy. Tested, same issue. Created new file, same issue.

You appear to be losing the network connection to your file. I think we're seeing a fair amount of this error, but I don't know a fix other than working locally. ID seems more sensitive than other apps in this regard.

InDesign-error exporting to pdf with art linked to a Read only server

My question is about an error exporting a PDF from InDesign ("Cannot export pdf"). The InDesign file has links to art (a .psd file) from a secure file server where I have Read permission only--not Read/Write. The error only happens when I have linked art from this server.
To export a pdf, is it necessary to have Write permissions to the server that has linked art? To export to PDF of course I am not changing the linked file! My InDesign file only links to it. So why doesn't it work if I have Read permission?
Can anyone help?

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Are you sure you have write permission where you want to save the PDF?

CS4 InDesign Error Code 5 - PLEASE HELP (!)

Hi, please please if any of you have suggestions to solve this problem or ANYTHING, please lend me a hand!
I tried to contact suppose-to-be open 24/7 customer service but on the phone the automated female voice tells you it is actually Mon-Friday. LOL.
OK, here is my problem.
My computer had to be rebooted yesterday morning, nothing unusual as it often happens.
Rebooted my Mac and tried uploading few InDesign files later on in the day.
Other files that were on before rebooting restored themselves but then an Error message came up with one file,
"Cannot open "file name.indd".
The file "file name.indd" is damaged and cannot be recovered (Error code 5)"
I am one of those Ctrl+S freaks so my work was saved before the reboot.
If the problem is within the restoring file system then why are all the other files safe and sound?
After intense googling on the matter, I suspect that it might be the size of the file.
I read a few cases where cos the file was too big, they had the same Error code 5 and lost them.
127.5MB is the size of the file but there have been no warnings previously nor was I informed that the size would cause a FATAL problem like this.
Anyway I tried out about all of the potential solutions given on Google.
-Quit and restarted InDesign.
-Rebooted Mac.
-Moved the file in to a portable hard drive and tried opening from there.
-Opened from other programs such as Photoshop etc.
-Created a new computer account and re-installed InDesign.
-Deleted and recreated InDesign Preference.
-Tried it the next day.
PLEASE help me...
That file happened to be THE MOST IMPORTANT one out of them all.
I spent few weeks working on that with hardly any rest or sleep.
The deadline is too close for comforts....please help.

There are no links when you copy/paste. When you say drag, do you mean from Bridge or Finder/Explorer, or from Photshop? Dragging from Photoshop is the same as copy/paste. All you get is low-res screen preview embedded in the document.
I suspect this doc may be as large as it is because it hase a lot of useless change information in it. ID save all the change info each time you hit save. When the doc is closed, that information is still retained, but is no longer usable. To reduce file size you should do a "Save As."
Have you tried deleting the recovery information and opeing the file from the menu? I don't think it will help, but it might.

The Italian government has announced new reforms in Education with a leaflet full of errors due to wrong splitting of the words when going to the next line.
I am iItalian and have a copy of InDesign CS6 and it seems to give the same mistakes (Dictionary set to Italian) so probably that is what they were using.
I was using InDesign CS4 intensively and don't recall this kind of mistakes.. but.. maybe they were there too.

Setting the Dictionary under the preferences has nothing to do with the language assigned to the text, it only makes a choice of which dictionary you will use among those installed on your system for a particular language. This is a common misconception.
The actual language assigned to text is set at the character level, which allows you to have multilingual text and use the correct dictionary for each language. That doesn't mean the hyphenation in Italian is not broken, but we don't hear reports about it on the forum, so it most likely is not. In any case, we're just users and can't fix anything. If you think there is a bug, file a report at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

I get "Startup Alerts" when trying to launch InDesign. Does not recognize a series of Plug-ins.

I am on InDesign CC and on a mac.
It worked to reinstall the program via my Creative Cloud app.
First I had to uninstall the app though...

New InDesign Error when Exporting to PDF

since upgrading to CS 5.5 my entire company has encountered numerous issues and errors with InDesign. This however, is a new one and I was wondering if anyone knew the root cause of such an error and a potential fix.
here's the error message my marketer is getting when trying to export a document to a pdf:

The steps she takes if file - export - adobe print PDF and then selects smallest file size. The file is packaged

I've got a weird variation on the same problem. I've got a 400+ page document, which was printing fine until yesterday. Now I'm getting the error.

I ran into this once before, found this thread, figured out that there was a problem with the master pages, as no subset of pages would print. So I deleted and created new master pages again this time. Now, if I just have one master page, it's fine, but as soon as I add the facing master page, the odd-numbered pages won't print. If I run just the even pages, it's fine. If I run the whole thing with a single master, it's fine. But I need different masters for the odd and even pages. ANY CLUE where the error might be, or how to work around it? I'm starting with blank pages for the masters, and the problem happens before I add any elements to the odd-numbered master.
Windows 7, CS 5.1, but since it has worked fine in the past, I don't think it's a system problem. I inadvertently hit a key yesterday that asked me about doing something with my pasteboard (I hit cancel, don't remember what it was), but if I do a Select All, I don't see anything lurking outside the print area to cause problems.

My power shut off on my mac while I was working and
the files I was working on were corrupted. I hear there are

Try opening the files "as a copy," but don't hold your breath. Error code 5 is pretty much a non-recoverable error without outside tools.
If you have the time, you can rebuild the files, or you can use the Quark method. Markszware, the maker of the plugins for ID and Quark that are required (in additon to a copy of Quark Xpress), offers a recovery service. See Bad InDesign or Quark File Recovery Submission Form
