Indesign exports to PDF all hidden/masked trash...

Hello
Can anyone explain me why indesign export all hidden garbage into pdf??? Here is example. PDF full of clean text is placed into indd, masked with own frame than exported to pdf. All hidden trash is again in pdf, but masked. Even objects outside page. This will make pdf much larger. blue is visible portion of placed pdf, red is hidden garbage.
Original placed pdf:
placed, masked and two more copy in indesign doc
finished pdf full of hidden garbage

  • InDesign Export to PDF Pixellated

My InDesign Exports to PDF  are Pixellated.  When I then open those PDF's into Photoshop and resave as PDFs they are not and the file sizes are drastically different. I've compared export specs and while all the major ones appear to be the same, they are not all available in Photoshop vs InDesign.
I've created an InDesign PDF export file and a Photoshop Save PDF file to demonstrate the difference in view. Would someone take a look at these and help me out?  I'm pulling my hair out over this difference and would like to remove the step of having to open in Photoshop every PDF file I export from InDesign so I can get it to look right.
I am unable to upload the PDF's in the image section of this forum.

I think that solved the problem.  To protect myself, I'll have the printer do a proof before the run.
Question:  If I'm sending this to a customer via email for approval -- and they don't have 'smoothing' turned on in their reader (assuming that have that option) -- will it go back to pixellated?
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I looked at the first file and saw no pixel aspects at all. It was very clean. Check that you have display smoothing turned on in your preferences.

  • Indesign Exported into PDF - not all images are showing.. !!!!

I've created a DL Phamplet in Indesign, using images from Photoshop (All converted to CMYK,PSD and flattened and used Illustrator files for other objects with the extension (filename).ai afterwards.)
I don't understand why my particular acrobat doesn't show the complete logo. This doesn't occur on two of my the computers at work PC and Mac, but it occurs at my manager's computer and once on my computer. I've outline all the fonts and images etc to ensure everything is in order. Everything is ungrouped as well to ensure all is outline.

I've even exported the pdf from the computer that had no problem viewing the missing part of the logo - however when previewing it on my computer, the logo seems to be missing still.
I think its a previewing problem of some sort but not sure. Do I need a certain plugin - I've updated my software and I haven't reinstalled the software. Please assist. Many thanks.

  • Cs3 indesign export to pdf slow

When I export to pdf with a new file name the process is very quick, if I export the same document for a second time using the same pdf file name (overwrite exsisting file) it goes very slow and I get the "not responding message" if I wait long enough the process does eventually complete. If I redo the export but select a new pdf filename it works ok. It does not seem to matter if its a large or small file.
I also seem to be getting a similar problem if I use pdfmaker in my office applications.
I am using indesign cs3 with Acrobat professional 8 on  Windows 7.
    Can anyone help!

Handling of missing links HAS changed, and in my opinion for the worse, but at the request of users, so that missing links no longer open the Links panel automatically or ask you to update on opening as they used to, though you should still receive a warning that the links are missing UNLESS YOU HAVE TURNED IT OFF IN YOUR PREFERENCES. It's on by default and you will find the option under the file handling section.
The rationale is that many workflows do not require that links be intact to accomplish the current editing, and longer documents with hundreds of missing links used to take many minutes to open while ID searched, essentially costing those users lots of money.
IF you have stored the links in the same directory as the .indd file, and IF you have moved the entire directory and IF you have enabled finding missing links when opening files, InDesign will find and update the locations for the links when the file is opened. If ID is unable to locate a link, because it is not in the current directory or a subfolder, you will see a warning message (in the past you would have had the option to browse for the missing files), and you must open the links panel if you wish to fix them manually.
In my opinion this is a very acceptable situation, and a great benefit to all types of workflows. I need to know links are modified or missing, so I've left that enabled. Those who don't need to know are no longer bothered or delayed. I suggest you pay a visit to the preferences and make sure that missing/modified checks are enabled, and if you are still having problems then your links aren't stored in the same directory, and that has always been an issue in ID when things get moved.

  • Installed Acrobat Pro 9 - requires password to open any PDF & botches InDesign exports to PDF

Installed CS4 on my new Mac, using the downloaded installation file. Everything works except Acrobat. I uninstalled Acrobat & reinstalled it. Same problems remain:
1a. Everytime I open a PDF, I get this message:  "Adobe Acrobat Pro wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this." I have to enter the username & password for my computer to open every PDF. Then they open correctly.
1b. If I open Acrobat from the Applications folder, without opening a file, I get the same message & must enter username & password to open Acrobat.
    2. From InDesign, I export PDFs using File > Export. The PDFs have little rectangles for about half the text in the entire document. I routinely export both hi-res (Print Quality) and lo-res (Smallest File Size) PDFs in InDesign & this happens with all of them.
Most of the work I do results in PDFs. None of them have password protection or other security. I don't see anything in Preferences that looks like it would relate to these issues. Help, please!

Go the the Applications -> Utilities folder. In there you will find the Disk Utility app. When you run that application, you can select your hard drive. Then click on the Fix Permssions button.

  • Graphics in InDesign Export to PDF Pixelated

I lay out a small paper, containing a few ads, stories & features. These ads and features are linked INDD files and contain text and linked images in PDF, AI and PSD formats.
I recently acquired CS6. Since that point, when I export the project into PDF, many of those linked graphics appear and print badly pixelated. Converting the graphics to EPS, though, solves the issue: the graphics look fine in the PDF. While converting all the graphics to EPS would solve the issue, it would be a lot of work that I would rather avoid, if possible.
The issue seems to be in either my settings or a corrupt installation, because when I package the project and send it to a friend, he can export to PDF with no issues. I don't believe, though, that  I've changed any settings from the default, and we're using identical presets to export.
I export my PDF's as type "Adobe PDF (Print)", using the provided preset " [Press Quality]". I'm using Win 7 Home.
Any ideas short of reinstalling? Thank you for any advice or suggestions.
A jpg made from a PDF created on my machine:
The same image, packaged & sent to my friend, who exported it with the same settings. JPG made the same method as the previous:

  • InDesign Export to PDF and PDF Destinations/Bookmarks

    Hello all,
I am new to this forum and am not sure where the most appropriate location for this question is. But, here goes:
We are adding Bookmarks to an InDesign Doc then exporting it to a PDF. In the Acrobat Reader and the IE Acrobat reader the bookmarks work just fine. Here his where the problem is. I have to link to the PDF's bookmarks from a web page. I have come to find out that I can't link directly to a bookmark but I have to link to a "Destination."
The PDF Exporter or InDesign adds a Destination name that is not the same as the bookmark name. It includes the indd file name and the part of the sentience that the book mark is next to.
I have used Adobe Acrobat Professional to create a custom Destination that is one word without spaces. I am able to link to that destination but I can't link to any of the destinations that either InDesign or the PDF exporter created.
Does anyone know how to force the Destinations names to be set to the name of the bookmark that is being mapped to it? Or, how to link to a bookmark name rather then a Destination.
I have also did some searching for some VB to Acrobat scripting and found that I can't edit Destination names.
This is for an on going project that is sure to have a lot of updates. We do not want to have to goto Acrobat and fix the Destinations by hand for every update. Plus, we don't want to link to the page number because we are never sure when pages will change and again do not want to always fix the PDF or HTML index page every time.
    Thank you for your time,

Michael, I've got one solution that meets my needs but maybe only part of your needs:
    Buy AutoBookmark from Evermap:  http://www.evermap.com/autobookmark.asp#Creating%20Destinations%20From%20Bookmarks
It's a plugin to Adobe Acrobat (not Reader), but it works only in MS Windows, not Mac.
After you've installed that plugin, Acrobat's Plug Ins menu has a Destinations menu item with some choices you're going to use.
Open with Acrobat, the PDF file that has the destination names that have that bothersome <filename>.indd prefix.  Use the Plug Ins > Destinations menu's item to export the destinations as a plain text file.
Edit the resulting plain text file with any plain text editor.  Globally search and replace the filename prefix with nothing.  Save and close that file.
Back in the Acrobat window of your PDF file, use the Destinations menu's choice to delete all destinations.
Now use the Destinations menu to import the destinations file you just edited.
    Voila.
BUT the part of your problem that this won't solve, is the presence of a portion of the sentence in the destination.  That's not a problem for me, because I'm creating all my destinations as parts of the sentence.

  • InDesign export to PDF Print color issues

    Hey there,
I'm working on a document in InDesign, have been for many hours now.  So far whenever exporting to PDF print there have been no problems.  Now all of a sudden, if I change a color in the InDesign file and export to PDF, nothing actually changes on the PDF anymore.
Any idea what's going on? Did I accidentally change a setting or something?
Example:  Say I have a shape that's Black. I export it, it's black.  Now, I go into the document and change the shape color to Yellow, export it; still black.
    Regards,
    SL

Chrome's built-in PDF browser does not even begin to conform to the PDF specification. It might be fine to read PDF files from the simplest of Word documents, but not output from any graphic arts source.
(The same is true for Apple's Preview application under MacOS and their PDF viewer under iOS!)

  • InDesign exporting to PDF - .eps and .ai color issue

I've been reviewing a lot of help forums and have played with a lot of solutions and can't seem to fix this one.
With no updates or changes to my usual settings I've noticed an issue with my company logo when I export to PDF from InDesign CS6. Once I open the PDF all images and color spaces look fine, but the logo is muted, as if I set the opacity to 60-70% before exporting.
It happens with both EPS and AI files. It does NOT happen when I place the logo as a JPEG, but I need transparency and quality on these PDFs. Don't say PNG please, same issue with quality.
I don't understand how it changed when I changed nothing.
Any guidance would be appreciated, and I know I couldn't have possiblty provide a complete set of variables, so let me know wheat else would be helpful.

Thanks for both your responses. It appears that everythign in the original logo file and InDesign file are accurately set up. I've explored any back corners to see if something is off, but it all reads the same space/model/mode.
I've inserted an exported image to show the issue. The file formats from top to bottom is: AI, EPS, JPEG, PNG
    Any other ideas?

  • InDesign export in PDF Hintergrundaufgabenfehler - nach verschieben in OneDrive

    Hallo zusammen.

  • Problem with InDesign export to PDF

    Hi All:
I hope someone who knows Acrobat can help me with this. I have an InDesign file that I must export to PDF. That in itself isn't the problem. This is:
The text in InDesign is aolid black (000000), but once it exports to PDF, it collects a myriad of colors and will not print preperly to the newsprint. I'm doing this for a newspaper. I use InDesign, they Use Quark. The client uses InDesign as well. I can NOT figure out how to convince Acrobat to leave the color alone.
I've tried to figure it out with the Ink Manager, etc., but for the life of me, no matter what I do, It comes out as all the colors of the rainbow. It LOOKS black in the PDF, but when you select it, it is NOT black. It's a mess. Two full pages of this stuff and I'll have to redo the whole darned thing in Quark unless I can figure this out.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks so much, in advance.

  • Problem in WAD: export to PDF all the tab panels of a TabPage

    Hi all,
I have a problem with WAD and export to PDF.
    My template (schema):
    Group -->
    Container Barraher --> Button Group
Container Form --> Tab Pages -->
    TabPanel1 --> Container1 --> Analysis1
    TabPanel2 --> Container2 --> Analysis2
    TabPanel3 --> Container3 --> Analysis3
    My problem:
The button exports only the Analysis we are seeing (the TabPanel which is opened) but I would want the button exports the three Analysis. Is it possible?
At the Button Group --> Command Export --> Data Binding --> Web Items:
    Analysis1
    Analysis2
    Analysis3
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Hi,
Can you remove the Data Bindings and see if you use the Default if PDF is working ?.
Another way also might be is to save the Same Template with a new Name, then  Keep only the Data Providers and the Analysis Grid.
Back on Main Template in the Button Group use this new Template as a Print Template.
    Hope this helps.

  • Indesign export of PDFs - images in pdf fragmented, missing metadata

Can anyone help with this one?
We use InDesign CS3 to create PDF 1.6's, directly from InDesign export. The metadata contained in the images on the layout normally are visible in the PDF when you control click and select "show metadata" on the image with Acrobat's touch up object tools. Ocassionally, there is an unknown problem in the process where a given image will "fragment" -- when you click on it in the PDF, a frame surrounds only part of the image, and there's no "show metadata" choice to select. This is kiling us because we doconstruct those PDFs and put them into our long term archive, and the metadata is missing there!
Anyone know of any reason InDesign export would give such results?
    Any help would be appreicated!
    Thanks.

    Thanks Bob,
We're just reviewing detailed data now, so it's unclear whether we have any cases where it's a placed PDF (most are tiffs, psds, etc). Good point - if the pdf within is a 1.3 that would be a problem. . .same too with a placed ID file, though I know for sure we're not doing that. I'll post what we find.
We are ok with regard to version patches. But, Bob, do you by chance know of any specific bugfixes (i haven't read the release notes) that address this? that would help to know too, so as to rule out some times in the past before the patch was applied where the problem occured.
Meanwhile David W. Goodrich's reminder of adobe technote 332920 if i read it right, suggests non raster images would fail to pass metadta, at least in CS2, i wonder if that applies to cs3 too. . .

  • Indesign Export to PDF

When using the option in Indesign to export to PDF, I have problems with colour boxes printing differently on the pages. Page one is a deeper colour than page 2.  The boxes have been copied and pasted so exactly the same colour swatch and profile. Both pages look exactly the same on the monitor.

Do you know about the dreaded 'Yucky Discoloured Box' Syndrome?  Sounds like this might be it, you should supply info as to how you are printing it too.

  • InDesign export as PDF shrinks!

    Hi,
When I created an InDesign document (career survey for students to take), then exported as PDF, the PDF shows the document shrunk -- the print and pictures are smaller.  This does not happen for my other InDesign documents exported to PDF format.
What is happening?  How can I fix this?  I need the PDF the same size as the document because the students need the larger print to read.
    JoAnn

When you export a pdf out from InDesign it will never change the size (dimensions). But what might happen is that they are resized upon printing. Take care that in the print dialog from Acrobat is scaling set to None.
You might want to set the print setting in the pdf  file properties so that no one will print it accidently scaled.
