InDesign file won't open, missing plug-ins

Anyone ever seen this error message when trying to open an Adobe InDesign file?
Missing plug-ins:
worldready.rpln
dynamicdocuments.rpln
conditionaltext.rpln
sharedcontent.rpln
I am using a PC with CS6, but also tried another PC with CS3. Same issue with various backups of the files.
The files seem to all be older than 2012, and appear to not have a program associated with them (appear as white icons, not typical color) even though they say InDesign, INDD file when you mouse over them.
Thanks in advance.

InDesign CS5 won’t launch on Windows 7. I get the following error messages:
    Cannot load the LINKS.RPLN plug-in
Cannot load the FONT USAGE DIALOG.RPLN plug-in
Cannot load the XMEDIA UI.RPLN plug-in
After these error messages InDesign crashes.
Do I need to reinstall the plug-ins?
If yes, how do I do that?

I couldn't find a repair option so tried to reinstall InDesign as you've suggested. This doesen't seem to work either, as I received the following installation error:

  • InDesign CC won't open without Plug-ins? Please help.

Downloaded InDesign CC on a Mac OSX. Worked in it perfectly for a day. Next day InDesign won't open. Says I need a bunch of plug-ins it can't find: AppUI, LinksUI and several more.
Deleted InDesign, restarted, tried to re-download it again, now I can't even download it!
Where do I get these? What do I do?
    Thank you!

Hi Peter, Thank you for the suggestion. I just tried in Chrome and Firefox and got the same results: "Download error: please try again, or contact customer support."
(I do have Adobe Application Manager running).
Everything worked fine yesterday. But not today. And nothing changed between yesterday and today.
    Any other ideas?

  • Xcode 6.1 Not able to open, missing plug-ins?

    Hello,
I have download and reinstalled Xcode 6.1 for about the 5th time and restarted my computer and i keep getting a error saying that Xcode is missing plug ins which is not even allowing me to open Xcode at all. It is telling me to reinstall Xcode and i have and I'm just lost please help!

To find out where th problem is,  either Xcode or something in your environment, you should try to run Xcode as a different user.
The guest account is ideal for this as your are sure you will get a clean environment. You could also make a new user account and try running from there. If Xcode starts then the problem is something in your original user environment. If Xcode fails to stsrt with the new account then there is a system wide problem.
BTW is your account an admin account or a regular account?
    regards

  • Indesign file won't open native CS5 file, gives me "missing plug-in or being used?

I've tried to open both a CS4 and CS5 file from another designer, and it gives me a message "InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application." (which it is not) I've downloaded the update, but still no luck. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's an InDesign file? How did you get the file?

  • How to open Indd file when it shows: missing plug ins in CS4 - Help.

How can I open this Indd file in my CS4 version? It is stating that I am misisng plug ins then it won't open the file. I'm guessing its probably a CS5 version file... Not sure. How do you tell? Anyway, I can I open this thing?
Worst case - How do I upgrade to CS5? Is possible? I can't find anything to upgrade to from CS4. They make it so hard to find.
Thanks for any insight or help!!
    Brian

You can identify the version using the script here: Adobe Forums: [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File
If it is from a later version that CS4, it will need to be exported to .idml for something ath can be opened in CS4, but it likely will not look the same.
As far as I know there are no upgrade from CS4 to CS5 or CS5.5  packages avialble through normal resellers, and I'm not certain that CS4 is even eligible for upgrade discount princing for CS6 any longer.

  • Garageband 10.0.3: old files won't load instrument plug-ins

    Hi all,
I've opened up some old Garageband files in GB 10.0.3 and when I add a new software instrument track, I can't load any instruments. It won't play the apple plug-ins or third-party plug-ins(all up to date). If I create a new project, everything works fine. AU units are selected under preferences.
Here's a screen shot of my load attempt. As you can see, instead of instruments, I'm only seeing effects. Any help with this problem is appreciated.

OK.  I will give it a shot.  I assume I can reload FCPX without having it count as another download from the APP store.  I think they have a limit of 5, but maybe that is to different computers.
Thanks for letting me know about having to install in a certain order.  I am going forward with FCPX but need to go backwards with FCP7.

  • Error Message when Double-clicking a CS4 InDesign File; Won't Open

I recently installed CS4, upgrading from CS2. Before installing CS4, I could double-click the icon for the file and it would open in InDesign CS2. After installing CS4, when I double-click an InDesign file icon, I get an error message that Windows cannot open the file and needs to know which program should be used. I check the "Select the program from a list" and a window opens that lists several of the applications I have installed. Neither InDesign versions are on the list, so I "Browse" to the Adobe folder in which both InDesigns reside. I then select a version (it doesn't matter which one; neither work) but then it doesn't appear in the list and my "selection" reverts to the "recommended" Photoshop CS4.
I can understand if this function has disappeared in CS4, and we now have to open a file using the "open" menu item, but I can't understand why neither verison "sticks" in the "Open With" window.
Any suggestions? I'm using Windows XP SP2.
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

That's what I thought. I tried the folder options association trick at http://forums.adobe.com/message/2864550#2864550, which kind of worked.  Now, when I double-click on an InDesign file icon, InDesign CS4 opens,  but the file does NOT open. Looks like I'll have to reinstall, unless  someone has an addition to the solution.
    Thanks!

  • InDesign File Won't Open

I have an InDesign CS5.5 file that I was working on without issue last night and today when attempting to open the file it causes InDesign to crash. So I can't navigate, or save down/idml etc. It also does the same thing on four other machines. Sort of at a loss as I don't want to recreate the last two days of work. Any ideas or suggestions on how I can open the file at least enough to export it to an idml or something like that?
I've searched previous posts and can't seem to find one that addresses any possible solutions when you can't get the file to physically open. Maybe I'm just up the creek.
    Thanks

I did fool around with that, but the script keeps producing errors ... but i'm not sure i'm putting things in the right spot ... do i save it with the file name in /.indd?   like such?
    // blindOpen_and_IDML-Export.jsx
    var _file = File.openDialog("InDesign-Datei"); // Selection of a file
    if(_file != null)
var d = app.open(_file, false); // Open the file without showing it
    d.exportFile(ExportFormat.INDESIGN_MARKUP,  File(_file.fullName.replace(/C:\Users\100136858\Documents\Basketball\2014-15\Notes\120614 _NorthDakota\120614_NorthDakotaNotes.indd$/i,'.idml'))); // Export im IDML-Format
    d.close(SaveOptions.NO); // Close without saving

  • Indesign files won't open over a network

I have just copied my entire work folder from a 17" iMac Core Duo to a 20" iMac Core Duo. When I attempt to open any InDesign files over the network from one machine to the other I get the following message.
"Cannot open the document "xxxxxxx". You may not have permission or the document may be open already. For mutli-user access, close the file and then lock it using thee File > Get Info command in the Finder."
All my other files open correctly - Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. I have read and write permissions for the entire work folder, but only the InDesign files wont open over the network. The files will open perfectly on the local machine, but not over the network.
I have managed to find a similar post on Adobe's InDesign User Forum, but not a satisfactory solution.
I have never had this problem before, I've been using fileservers for years with no problems
    Please can anyone help.
    Thanks

Well, I don't have InDesign or I'd try Sharepoints to see if it could help the situation, dunno...
    http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1358566&#1358566
"Adobe states that PhotoShop CS2 does not work in a network environment. Many have seen this issue with CS2 and 10.4 working in a client/server environment. This does not seem to be an issue on the Windows/PC side. The only work around at the moment is to save the file on the local drive and then copy it over to client home folder."
I think part of it is that Apple has changed the method of locking files in OSX more than once.

  • Cs6 Indesign files won't open

My ID icons are now white and file type reads indd, not indesign.  None of my files will open anymore.  I get an error message that the files is either corrupt or not supported.

If you are going to install multiple versions you should install in chronological order, and if you want uninstall old versions that should be done before installing new ones. Sounds like once again the icon handler dll file is damaged. Since it sounds like just reinstalling CS6 did not work the first time, I'd uninstall both CS5 and CS6 and then run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) before you try to reinstall. I'd also run MSconfig to turn off unnecessary startup programs and services just before you do the reinstall (How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista). You can run MSconfig again after to restore normal startup.

  • I upgraded my iMac OS to OS X Mavericks and now I my CS2 InDesign files won't open?

How can I access my old InDesign CS2 files after I upgraded to iMac OS X Mavericks operating system?

Yes thank you - I have done that and it worked - for one month while I have a free download. But I ultimately have to pay. I don't think it's fair to sell software, make it obsolete and then charge customers to upgrade.

  • Newly created InDesign 5.5 file missing plug-ins, can't open now

How can I open an InDesign 5.5 file that says it's missing plug ins and won't open, when I just opened and created the file last week?

When I try to open a CS6 file in CS5.5, I get the error message:
The way to generate this other message:
is to try to open something that InDesign can't open. This is sometimes an InDesign file that is corrupt. Once I found poorly configured backup software keeping files open. In other cases I've had clients hand off files that were supposed to be InDesign files but turned out to be renamed zipfiles or PDF files or Word files (all of which fall under the "may not support the file format" statement above). You've already ruled out it being open elsewhere by searching for .idlk files, and you've ruled out plugin issues already (by not having a CS6 file generate the new "because it was saved with a newer version" message, and chances that you've installed some kind of plugin that ), so it almost has to be a file that is broken or misnamed in some way.

  • Suddenly getting "Missing Plug-Ins" errors when opening .indd files in InDesign CS2

I have a PC running Windows 7 and InDesign CS2. The laptop's installation of Windows was corrupted and I had to re-install the OS. I backed up all files, reinstalled the OS, and then reinstalled applications. One of those applications was InDesign CS2. However, after the installation of CS2 on the fresh copy of Windows, I noticed that I have trouble opening most, but not all, of the InDesign files on my hard drive.
When I try to open a .indd file I see an error message pop up that says "Missing Plug-ins. LILO.APLN, DYNAMICDOCUMENTS.RPLN, CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN" and three more. Under that list of missing plugins is the warning "This document uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"  If I click "okay" I then am met with another dialog box that says "Cannot open file. TEXT.RPLN, LAYER.RPLN" and on and on for about 60 more items.
I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING! I've searched around concerning this issue and it appears the consensus is that the file was opened by a newer version of InDesign. That possibility is, in fact, an impossibility. Never have I used a newer version of InDesign. The files that I am working on were backed up, stored on local storage and not touched once before reinstalling the OS and reinstalling InDesign CS2.
I also noticed that not all InDesign file formats were associated with InDesign in "Windows Programs and Defaults." I changed those to look to InDesign. I've also uninstalled InDesign CS2 and re-installed.
Not all InDesign CS2 files are exhibiting this behavior. So far, it appears more than half are, but some can be opened with no problems. There seems to be no correlation between which ones are able to be opened and which ones can't be opened.
What could have happened to these files and is there any possibility of opened them again? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Conditional Text was a new feature in CS4. I'm thinking, can you explain how your old CS2 documents became aware of it?
    Not exactly sure myself. Abiogenesis?
    [Edit]
Almost forgot. I wrote a script to unequivocally determine the InDesign version a document was last saved as:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273
I'll give that a try today. Even an affirmative judgement that the files are newer than CS2 would not impress me however. The fact remains, the files were copied off one hard drive over to another, the plug was pulled on the hard drive, the PC was re-imaged, CS2 was reinstalled, the files were copied back over... and whammo.
