InDesign font issue

I'm on a Mac running 10.6.8 and using creative site 5.5. Today, suddenly, nearly all Adobe fonts are unrecognized by InDesign and Photoshop. New documents, old documents, doesn't seem to matter. Other fonts seem OK. Ones that won't work in CS 5.5 seem to work in Word and other software. Don't use font management software, just FontBook. Small business where owner is tech support too, so...go easy. Thanks.

Easiest way is probably with a utility like Cocktail. Can be done manually, too, but I'm not a Mac user.
On PC I'd delete all Adobefnt**.lst files, where ** is a two-digit number.

  • InDesign font issue - displaying spaces as "D" using Fontin Sans

I've been having a strange font problem in InDesign CS3 for a couple days. When opening docs using ex libris' font "Fontin Sans" (in various weights) ID is messing with the formatting and instead of spaces is displaying a capital "D". I figured it was a corrupt font, but I deleted and reinstalled the font and it works fine in other programs. The issue isn't 100%, either. Yesterday I switched to another font and then switched back to Fontin Sans, and it worked fine, for a time. I've been using this font for a while in a variety of projects without issue.
Besides that it works in other programs, another reason I suspect this isn't a specific issue with this font is that when I opened a couple web pages yesterday (NY Times and my company's own home page) much of the plain text was completely garbled (symbols and such, no recognizable words), and that certainly wasn't a Fontin Sans issue. The two things seem unrelated, but as they both started happening yesterday I wonder if they're connected. The web text-display issue seems to have gone away today, however, while the Fontin/ID issue remains.
I don't even know where to start on this one. I'm using CS3, Mac Pro Intel, OS 10.4. No updates in the past couple days on font managers or CS3.

Delete your font cache. Download a free font cache cleaner utility. I have font finagler which may or may not be free. Can't recall.

  • Font issue in exported PDF from indesign

Font issue in exported PDF from indesign:
In Indesign file we have kept a sentence in “Univers LT Std” (San serif font) with all caps style that was orginally in lower case. Refer below
When we selected the sentence in exported PDF some of the characters are not selected. Refer below.
If we enable “create tagged PDF“ in export PDF setting, then the problem is solved. Refer below.
Can you please check why this problem happened? In another project also we have faced this same problem but different font “Frutiger LT Std” with all caps style. Here also same San serif font. Please check and advise to solve this issue permanently.

Without tags a PDF is a silly amount of letters, images and lines, with tags all itams a kept in their semantic context. So work with tags as it is the only way to get correct selections and export to other file types like Word DOCX.
Without tags InDesign reads from left to right from top to bottom and the font geometry might influence the correct order of letters.
Why should anyone work without tags today? If you open a tagged PDF in Acrobat DC it is much faster than without tags.

  • I installed indesign CS5 on new macbook pro and keeps freezing with spinning wheel once the app opens. Is there an issue with OS Mav or font issue or a plist I can pull. All other Adobe products work.

Migration should never be done with any Adobe program.
If you have done Migration, you have to UNINSTALL first (if even possible) and then download Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and run that also. When this is done, restart your computer and install the programs from an original Adobe Installer.
Other question is, if your OS is supporting that version. You can try it, it is not officially supported, but it might work.
But CC will work, upgrade to CC2014 (without additional cost), use that as it is better anyway.

  • Can you work between mac based and pc based files using Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, etc. without any font issues?

I work for a print company and we are wondering if Creative Cloud eliminates the font issues from designing a project on a pc and then making changes on a mac later without font issues.

I should clarify a bit...If a customer sends us an InDesign file that they created on a pc and I open it on my mac, will I be able to load the pc fonts without any issues? I realize that if they are open type fonts I would be ok but how about any other fonts?

  • Indesign vs Photoshop :Font issues

Hi I am an experienced photshop user and using Indesign for the first time.I am designing a magazine layout and was wondering if there will be any font issues with the printer if I do most of the work in photoshop and then import images into design.
For example for the cover the "name of the magazine " text has a layer style which i was not able to create in indesign so I thought to create the entire image in photoshop and then imort into Indesign. What are the cons of this process.
I was thinking of supplying the file as a pdf format in that case the font used will not be embedded in the pdf .Will that be a problem ?? I am also not sure how magazine printing is done so can someone guide me here.
    Thanks

    1.       No, it will all be rasterized.
    2.       Fonts are embedded by default when you save the PDF.

  • Font issue with InDesign and OS 10.6

I have read quite a bit on this but have found no resolution. We installed OS 10.6 on two of our three G5 Macs at work. We use InDesign CS4 and OS 10.6.5.
When we open an InDesign file that we all share, the machines with 10.6 on it say fonts are missing. (I believe this is a naming convention problem.) I learned that some of the fonts for InDesign should be moved to the InDesign font folder. We did that. That helped on several of the fonts. However, we still have an issue with Helvetica Neue, and Universe (67 or other numbers). I have the same Universe font family listed, but when I go to find 67 or 47, they aren't there.
Anyone else having this problem? Do we need to go in to every document and change the fonts to avoid this error? Is there a better fix?

I have just swapped from an old Mac Mini (using 10.4.11) to the new Mac Mini (using 10.6.6). I did not do any fiddling about fonts. Everything is as it installs. The only thing I did is to resolve duplicate fonts in Font Book.
For convenience, I used Arial for documents. Now when I open an ID document, it says Arial[TT] (as well as bold, italic...) is missing. I checked the Arial ttf group is in /Library/Fonts, but in ID font list, it shows an Open type.
All I want is that the fonts should work, when I open all the InDesign documents (still in CS2 Version) that I created since last five years. I am no techie by any means, what I need is a step-to-step to solve the font issue, so that I can get on work immediately.
Any concrete step-to-step advice is highly appreciated.

  • Touch-up tool causes font issue in Acrobat 9 and X

While I edit text using the Edit Document Text tool (formerly TouchUp Text) the font style are getting changed, for example If i select the Uppercase style text using Document Text Tool after exit the selection and trying to save as  the doucment some characters with in the text changed into lower case. In Acrobat 7 and 8 the TouchUp Text tool works fine. Please suggest a solution to get rid of this issue in 9 pro and X pro.

    Hi LoriAUC,
I have attached the screenshots  for your reference, How I selected the text and what the problem was occur in the pdf files. Actually this is pdf file which is exported from InDesign as per customer provided export settings. if I change 100% of subset fonts in that export settings(See the screenshots below) I can get rid of the font issues in Acrobat 9 and X pro but I am not supposed do any changes in that settings.
If you want check/analyze the problematic pdf file I can send it as an attachement to your mail ID? if so please let me know your mail ID.
Please let me know if you need any other details or questions to be clarified regrading this.
    Thanks for your  support.

  • Font issue in Acrobat 8

We have been having problems with .eps files placed in Quark and exported to a pdf. In Acrobat 7 standard the fonts from the .eps file gets garbled when read on the PC. Use local fonts seems to cure this problem, but I took the pdf file and opened it in Acrobat 8 and got this message. "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XYSNP+Trajan-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Now all the surrounding text in Trajan that was input from Quark 6.5 changes to a different font when printed. Would switching to an Opentype version of the font solve this problem?
    Thanks

I have been having the same sort of problem but with Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS2, and Acrobat 8 Professional. I am the only Mac in the building (brand new system), everyone else is on PC. I am only getting the font issue with the Optima family. The school I work for purchased the font as a PostScript Type 1 outline font. We were guessing that I might be having issues because I am on a Mac.
When working in InDesign, I have to print off most of my pieces on an inkjet printer, if I try to print to a xerox laser, Indesign crashes or pops up with an error "There is a problem with the font Optima." I have been using both methods for creating a pdf in indesign:exporting to and printing as.
If I use the optima font in Illustrator I get a "can't print the illustration. There's a bad font used in the system" error.
When I create PDF's through Indesign, the PDF turns out fine on-screen, but the error message pops up "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XQFZSM+Optima'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
When I try to print the PDF out on either a laser or inkjet printer, the optima font has a lot of missing letters or is replaced by a different font.
This has been very frustrating. The weird thing is that it doesnt happen with all projects that use the optima font. I have done some very small projects (envelopes, postcards) and have either had an issue or no issue at all with optima; and Ive worked on larger projects (magazines, newsletters) and have almost always-from what I can remember-had a problem.
Is this something that I can fix with program settings? Or would a Mac compatible font be the solution?
    Thanks

  • How can I workaround a Windows font issue?

I'm using indd on a Dell Studio XP with Windows 7. I'm trying to use an installed font - Folio BK BT light - but the program continues to tell me the link to the font is missing, even though I find the font and re-establish the link every time I open the document. Is there a workaround for this issue? Thanks,

What kind of font is it? What version of InDesign? CS3 had some pretty funky issues with Type 1 fonts.
Workaround is to install them to the InDesign/Fonts folder.

  • Font issues with CC 9.2

Hi there. I'm on Maverick (OS 10.9.1) with Suitcase Fusion 5 (latest version) and was having difficulty loading a Postscript font (ITC Garamond family) to use in InDesign (or Illustrator or Photoshop). Have used this font in InDesign for the past few years (one magazine). I searched on-line and finally found the same issue. The fix was to place that font inside the InDesign Fonts folder, however being a designer with over 10,000 fonts, I need to know if this is a Suitcase issue or Adobe Cloud issue?

You can try to manage the fonts with the excellent Llinotype Font explorer

I hope this will help you

  • Adobe Pro 8.0 Mac to Windows Font Issue

Here is my dilemma: We have a fillable form created in Acrobat Pro 8.0 on a Mac. It is sent to a Windows Vista (Acrobat Reader) user who then fills it, saves it and sends it to a Windows XP user (again using reader). When the XP user opens it, the characters are all changed to dots. If it is sent to another Vista user, it is fine. To me, it sounds like a font issue. Can someone give me some insight on how we might go about fixing the issue? Thanks.

How do I check to see where the fonts are embeded? Originally the form was created in MAC InDesign then imported into Acrobat to insert the fillable fields. Our grpahics person is not sure where to check the settings in Acrobat. Thanks again.

  • I am having font issues with font book. It validates the font, yet it is not availabe in my software programs (Adobe  or Microsoft). What can I do to use these fonts?

I am having font issues with font book. It validates the font, yet it is not availabe in my software programs (Adobe  or Microsoft). What can I do to use these fonts?
I actually created these fonts with fontagrapher in 1998 and have been using them regularly ever since and now they are not available in InDesign. I really need to use them.

I found a page on Adobe, Troubleshoot fonts | Mac OS X
On PostScript type 1 fonts you need to copy/move the fonts to the correct font folder because Font Book doesn't copy them into the folder. Select the fonts double-click the fonts and Find in the font Book app and validate.
The correct font folder depends how you are set up. I am by myself so my font folder was MyHarddrive/Library/Fonts. I was using Suitcas fusion and the fonts are located in a different folder.
Most of the fonts have worked. Go to
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-fonts-mac-os-x.html
    This should help. Good Luck.

  • Manana font issue

I have a user with a manana font issue - this font works in other applications, such as photoshop, word, etc. - but in InDesign it shows almost as wingdings...replaces with other letters and strange spacing, etc.  I've tried removing the font and reinstalling...  also tried clearing all the cache, etc. - also even uninstalled and reinstalled the Adobe Suite.  Issue hangs on.  Any other ideas?
    She's running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.
    Adobe Suite CS5 Version 7.
    Thanks for any help.

My Mac flat out refuses to install the font ("2 minor problems were found. Proceed with caution", "1 serious error was found. Do not use this font."). Running it through a font checker tells me
Table Directory: Directory Entry checksum error
This error indicates a structural problem with the font.
OS/2: The version number is invalid
Bad version number in OS/2 table (must be >0, and must be >1 for OT-CFF fonts).
name: Same ID, not the same string length
There are differences between a Mac name string and the corresponding Windows string.
And the Mac shows its name as "MaÒana" ... Really, this is a shoddy rip-off of a commercial font. I guess you got exactly what you paid for.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 font issues

I'm Not entirely sure why this is happening, or what's causing it, but photoshop cc 2014 is causing some serious issues with fonts on my documents. Up until this point my company has used Extensis Suitcase Fusion to activate fonts used throughout our project docs. The 2014 typekit update and addition is somehow conflicting with either photoshop or suitcase and in return setting a large portion of my fonts to it's default or regular weight. It seems like while suitcase is auto activating the necessary fonts, typekit is reading each of those weights as their own individual fonts. This might seem difficult to understand but in any case i would just like to know if there is a way to completely deactivate typekit and or remove it's involvement in my project documents, at this point it is resetting dozens of fonts on some very important project files. I'd much rather not be limited to just the fonts that adobe or typekit prefers.

    I still don’t have a clue…
