InDesign fonts are minuscule...can't see

Old eyes. In PageMaker I can see the font choices on the control panel easily. In InDesign not only are there a hundred fonts showing at a time, but they are minuscule.
If I type in my font, I first have to click, erase and then type in. Not a very good system. Even using the Character panel on the side is too small to see. any way to enlarge or simplify type choice in InDesign CS4?

I'm officially resurrecting an old thread! I use InDesign 8 hours a day at my job. I don't understand why in Photoshop you can set the font preview size to "huge" but in InDesign you can only set it to "large." I can barely see the differences in the typefaces when viewed at the "large" setting. Since InDesign is a program that facilitates typographical design...wouldn't it make sense to allow the user to preview fonts at "huge" size as well? We, as the end users, shouldn't have to magnify our screen, or use a mouse magnifying software thing, in order to make your software easier to use. Adobe should listen to it's customer's input and feedback and make this simple change. Adobe has always been great at doing this in the past.
What's the reasoning behind NOT doing this? I love InDesign, and I love Photoshop. But this is the only sticking point in InDesign that really gets on my nerves. It is such an annoyingly lacking feature that I end up having to open up Photoshop, type out a generic sentence, and then cycle through the typefaces to find the one I want to use in InDesign. This just makes no sense.
Thank you,
Kelsey

  • Viewing Properties - Character Section - Can't see right arrow to view all fonts

I am using Captivate 6. I have the properties window open, and would like to change the font. I can not see the arrow on the right of the field. It is cut off with the scroll bar.

    Hi there,
It seems that Properties pane has been dragged towards the right, you can manually drag it towards left.
Also, You can either reset the present workspace or select any other workspace type - like navigation or widget and then try.
    Please try this.
    Thanks.

  • Fonts are missing after reloading ID-CS3

The nightmare continues. After having a major corruption of all Adobe software about a month ago, my IT person finally had to completely wipe my machine clean and reload everything. I am on Windows Vista and using Adobe CS3 Design Standard.
Now, with everything reloaded, my Adobe InDesign fonts are missing. There is nothing in the InDesign fonts folder. What can I do to get all my InDesign fonts back?

I found lists for ID CS, and Creative Suites 3 and 4. The list for CS2 appears to have been an attached PDF that is no longer attached.

  • I installed Prokit 7 upgrade and now I can't see any of my type 1 fonts when in Indesign or Photoshop

I installed Prokit 7 upgrade today and now I can't see any of my type 1 fonts when in Indesign or Photoshop. Not sure if the upgrade did it, but it seemed to coincide with the problem. I am a graphic artist spend all day everyday using these programs, hardly ever have a font problem. Anyone have a similar problem?

I reinstalled Prokit 7 upgrade and it did not fix the problem.
I put my fonts in user/library/fonts, where I have always put them and when I am in any Creative suite app. the only fonts visible in the font list are open type and TT fonts. No type 1 fonts appear in the list even though I have them in the fonts folder. They do not appear in fontbook either.

Hi, I have a problem with fonts because in the window I can't see the font, they are transparent. how can I fix this?

    giadad,
    It sounds as this issue:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
It was first presented in this post #15 by TheUlser:

  • MS Word can see these fonts, so why can't InDesign CS4?

I produce an annual brochure and have just opened last year's INDD file in InDesign CS4 on my Windows XP PC, intending to use this as the basis for this year's brochure. The document was created using InDesign CS2 and had no font issues when last used. However, I am now being told by InDesign CS4 that the following three fonts are missing,
    Arial Narrow
    Arial Narrow Bold Italic
    Arial Black
When I try to search for Arial Narrow via the Find Font dialogue box, it is nowhere to be seen in the list of available fonts. I can find Arial Black in the list but it only appears to be available in italic style, which is not used in my document. Other apps on my PC, such as MS Office, have no problem in finding these common fonts in all the usual styles. They are also listed in Windows Control Panel/Fonts.
How do I fix this irritating problem?

    Bob,
I spent a bit more time reading your link and all the associated comments. Unfortunately, different people appear to have adopted different solutions and there is a general lack of clarity. There were three sources of confusion for my simple mind.
Firstly, the referenced Microsoft Hotfix 956514 does not support your assertion that it is incompatible with XP SP3 so I went ahead and installed this hotfix. The result was that my previous Arial Narrow font files were updated from version 2.37 to 2.40 (as viewed via Control Panel/Fonts). I also deleted all the Adobe font cache files and rebooted my PC. This resolved my problem with Arial Narrow (though my first attempt failed as I think I must have missed one of the Adobe font cache files). All the previous style variants of Arial Narrow are now available under Arial. That problem is now resolved.
The second source of confusion was that the hotfix description claims to fix an Arial Narrow problem with Office 2007. It does not make any reference to Adobe application problems. This was puzzling as I never had any problem with accessing these fonts within Word 2007. However, I guess that the subfamily name confusion was at the root of Adobe's problems and had little or no visible effect on the Office apps.
Thirdly, you recommended a hotfix that updates the font files to the latest level and yet some of those who have commented on your web page have fixed the problem by installing old versions of the font files (including the version I was originally using). Not everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.
Anyway, I got there in the end and many thanks for pointing me in the right direction .
This leaves me with one remaining problem. My CS2 InDesign doc uses an italic version of Arial Black, which exists on my PC as a TrueType font version 1.00 dated 1996. This no longer accessible via InDesign CS4, which allows me to select Arial Black either under its own name or as a style variant of Arial but only offers the regular style in each case. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • When a document is a scanned PDF and converted to word some of the words and paragraphs are randomly a shade lighter when printed.  You can (barely) see it on the screen but it is different.  All font and design are the same.  Any suggestions?

The lighter shading has been a problem when printing the documents.  You can barely see it but it is there????

    Hi Notary,
I saw something similar with my 4 TB Promise SmartStor NAS after I upgraded to Lion. Only, I had ALL of my iTunes library on the NAS and one day, about a week after the upgrade I finally tried to play music with iTunes, but it kept throwing up an error just like the one you're seeing. I searched around for a while and finally found some steps that fixed the problem.
I found this solution at another site (can't remember which) that gave credit to this site:
    http://www.alexanderwilde.com/2011/04/os-x-lion-connection-error-with-afp-and-wo rkaround/
Here are the directions I cut-n-pasted into my little notes file:
    1) Launch the Terminal app
    2) Run this command:
    sudo chmod o+w /Library/Preferences
    3) Run this command:
    defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version -int 1
    4) Restart your computer
    5) From Finder, select an AFP server, or use “Connect To…”
This will cause the AFP Client to create the full preferences file
    6) Launch the Terminal app again
    7) Run this command (all on one line, make sure double-quotes are simply double-quotes from your keyboard, not pasted from the web as up and down quote marks) (yes, some of the spelling looks weird):
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array "Cleartxt Passwrd" "MS2.0" "2-Way Randnum exchange"
    8) Run this command:
    sudo chmod o-w /Library/Preferences
    9) Restart your computer
To disable this hack, run this command (all on one line, make sure double-quotes are simply double-quotes from your keyboard, not pasted from the web as up and down quote marks):
    sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array-add "DHCAST128"
I hope that helps. If not, sorry for the ludicrous-long reply.

  • All fonts are missing in indesign

I closed my file last night with master pages items and text layers locked in the layers pallette.
The file is to the point that I have master pages set with columns, and guides, and pages, and footer with text.  It is all layed out with images, ready to start typography.  I used Myriad pro, and I think Bell ( this may have been brought in from dafont, not sure).
When I opened the file this morning it said that the fonts were missing.  I tried to find the missing fonts, but ALL the fonts are missing in the font selection window.
This was when I realized that the layers were locked.  I dont know if this had anything to do with it, but Ive never used layers before, so assume it is a connection.
I tried opening a new document and there are no fonts available there either.  It says times, but you cant change it.  It is showing pink backgound like when fonts are missing, and just Os'.
I opened illustrator to see if the fonts are available there, and they are, no problem.  It is just indesign that is affected.
    Can anyone help?

  • InDesign Server fonts are locked even after document closed

    Hi!
We get "file in use" messages from windows, after installing latest InDServer update.
We create packages from open documents, on the server, then we close the documents.
After that a piece of code is to move the package to another location. This "move" fails now, after installing the update called 7.0.3.533.
That upgrade was also called: Adobe InDesign Server CS5 Release Update 7.0.3 WIN
Screen-shot: Manually repeating the MOVE FOLDER method call.
Is this a known error? What can be done?
The InDesign documents are using "document fonts", that is these fonts should be local to the document.
We also could find no specification of the changes implemented in 7.0.3.533.
    Best regards,
    Andreas Jansson

    Hi Folks,
I'd forgotten about this particular problem, but here I am again as I still have no solution for it. On a number of documents, I am now seeing a number of frames contain a large number of links and I cannot see a way to access them to remove them (whether this be by changing the resource state, I don't know).
Earlier on I tried something simple by simply getting hold of ILinkManager and calling QueryLinks(). As expected it returned no links! Another aspect of this issue can be seen in the screenshot below - there are no links, yet the tooltip specifies that there are 2 unique links (I imported tagged text into the same frame twice).
I now have two projects using slightly different approaches to importing tagged text. One uses IImportSuite::DoImport() as mentioned before and the other uses IImportResourceCmdData\IReplaceCmdData. Both import with no problems apart from this annoying side-effect.
    Has anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Andrew

  • How can I make my Mac Indesign fonts look right on Windows machines?

I have a nice document formatted on my Mac that uses several "dfont" suitcases. They look like crap when my colleagues open them using InDesign on Windows. I can't see how to get those dfonts unpacked so I can give them to my Windows counterparts. Is there a really definitive resource on font handling for cross-platform environments?
    Christian Harder

For best cross platform font compliance, get into the habit of using OTF versions of fonts. dfints are Mac only and should be avoided if a job is going to round trip between PC and Mac. The CS install disk comes with a good selection of OTF fonts.
PC true type fonts can load on a mac but mac true type won't load on a PC. So you can reformat the job on the PC with true type fonts and then copy and load the pc true types onto your mac. OTF fonts are designed to work on Macs and PCs.

  • My tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

On pages, my tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

The Inspector Icon does not have a "tab", it is just a shortcut button.
Menu > View > Show Inspector
command option i does the same thing showing and hiding the Inspector.
Because the Inspector/s are movable windows, if you can't see them they maybe somewhere off your screen or half tucked away partially out of sight.

  • Font Management 1 - I have a Bazillion Fonts but can't see them all in Photoshop.

Photoshop has an unacknowledged Font limit.
The workaround is to use a
Font Manager and only activate the fonts you need.
There are 6 commonly used Font Managers.
FontAgent Pro - the majority of Photoshop Users who participate on these forums seem to think this one is best. FAP is the most ATM Deluxe like. Auto Font Activation works perfectly for most, with no complaints being reported.
Suitcase - this seems to be the next most popular, however, Auto Font Activation seems to cause problems for some.
Font Reserve - this application was bought by the company that owns Suitcase Folk.
Master Juggler - this is a relatively new application for OSX.
Font Book - is built into Mac OSX since version 1.03. Apple have a useful Video Tutorial on using Font Book on their
    web site
Linotype FontExplorer X - this is the newest font manager for OSX. its free and is at beta version 3 as of this posting.

    oliburner:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That's a common complaint. One workaround is to use one of the 3rd party keyword apps like Keyword Manager which will let you arrange keywords hierarchically.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I can't see the font names in the TYPE - Font pull down menu?

I can't see the font names in the TYPE - Font pull down menu?  The fonts are in there, but I can only see the name as I scroll past each one - almost like they are white text???

    view,
I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
It was first presented in this post #15 by TheUlser:

It has been described on this Adobe page:
    http://capitalmacservice.com/font-preview-working-illustrator-cs-5-yosemite-fix/
It may also depend on the monitor, as it appears from post #29 by Loncar in the same thread.
Obviously, this also influences some other things so there may be a downside to it.

  • On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up?

On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up? The tracks are from voice recordings that were downloaded from an extrernal drive and weren't necessarily tagged as spoken audio. Do I need to go back into itunes and relabel these tracks so they will show up on my ipad2?
Thanks in advance for your help!

With the iPad connected to the computer, while iTunes is running, click on the iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Movies tab and look for Movie Rentals. You want to "Move" the films to the iPad.
