Indesign: full page with bleed?!

Hi all, if i'm given an specific ad size of only:
- Full Page with bleed - 8 x 10.5 (inches)
- Non bleed size - 7.25 x 9.8 (inches)
Does it mean:
- page size: 8 x 10.5 (inches)
- bleed & slug: 0
- Margin: 0.375 (inches) for all sides
i'm puzzled if there is a need for trim area if there isn't any measurement provided..
Hope someone could help me out please?!

(Wow, I said "marginally more likely" -- no pun was intended, but I think it's pretty funny!!)

The second is without bleed and the first one with it hence we can know the bleed size from it. Can't we.
So, the whole point of a bleed is to define three regions: 1) the interor space, bounded by the margin, where you're guaranteed to not come near to the trim, 2) the bleed area, which is a danger zone; once a page object touches this area, it is danger of being trimmed, but it might never happen 3) the actual trim area (and slug), where we're guaranteed the content will be cut off.
If we were to just subtract the provided 7.25x9.8 from the provided 8x10.5 and say that our bleed area was 3/8" on a side, then that would mean if we put an image touching the margin, it would be touching the bleed area. That doesn't really make sense. Because the standard practice with bleeds is if you touch the bleed line, then you should go all the way to the trim line.
The other reason this doesn't make sense is that 3/4" is 9.4% of 8". That is a lot of page to waste on a bleed. And, indeed. 3/8" is a rather large amount for a bleed, at least at these sizes. (If you were cutting billboards, different story...).
Oh, and also, knowledge of magazine layouts gives us some more information, as Peter mentioned. It's quite common that a full page ad is allowed to bleed all the way, but otherwise all content on the page (advertising as well as Real Content) is kept within a margin, like 3/8". So there is a 3/8" border between the page edge and any content.

  • How can I print just a part of the page and not the full page with Adobe Reader v 10.1.2?

how can I print just a part of the page and not the full page with Adobe Reader v 10.1.2? I need to print a engineering print with lot of information but information is too small in letter size and I don't have a plotter.

Two ways to print a portion of a page: zooming or using the Snapshot Tool.
    ZOOMING:
Zoom into the area you want to print.
    Click the Print icon.
Under "Pages to Print", make sure "Current view" is selected under "More options" (you may need to click "More options" to open it).
If you aren't satisfied with the preview, try clicking "Fit" under the Size button.
    SNAPSHOT
Choose Edit > Take A Snapshot.
Drag a rectangle around the area you want to print.
    Click the Print icon.
Under "Pages to Print", make sure that "Selected Graphic" is selected under "More options".
To enlarge the snapshot to fit the sheet of paper, choose "Fit" under the Size button.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I scroll one full page with IntelliMouse Optical?

When I nudge my scroll wheel one notch forward or back, Safari moves 1/2 of a page up or down. How can I get one nudge of the scroll wheel to move one full page? Firefox has an add-on that can be set to a full page. What are the options for Safari?
The latest Microsoft Intellipoint software (for mac) that comes with the mouse seems to have messed up my scrolling in Safari and Navigator.
I've tried USB Overdrive, playing with settings in system preferences, etc, nothing helps. In Intellipoint I created a Safari preference and set it to scroll one full page, but it doesn't.
    Any ideas? thanks
p.s. Please don't tell me to get another mouse, I've tried dozens of them and IntelliMouse Optical is the best one for me. (I'm also stuck on an ancient Apple M2980 keyboard. I love them.)

    HI,
    Open System Preferences/Appearance.
You may be able to tweak the scroll functions that way.

  • Full Pages with Zero Margins

I'm trying to use Pages to format and print labels for various products on a Phaser 8200 printer.
Previously I had used Word, but I'm trying to convert over to Apple software.
The problem I'm having is that I format the labels as tables, with the table taking up the entire 8.5" x 11" page; with each label being an integral fraction of the page size in width and length.
I've set the top, bottom, left and right margins, and header and footings to zero in the Document
Inspector, but I still end up with top and bottom margins of about 1/4". How can I get rid of these?
I realize there are other ways to format the labels, but that's beside the point. I want the labels to take up the whole page. I don't want to have to cut off the top and bottom 1/4" of the paper, and I don't want to have to jigger the content of the labels so that the content of the top row of labels 1/4" up to counteract the margins (and shift the bottom row down 1/4").

    How did you do that?
On my system I must set the height of header/footer to zero then uncheck header/footer.
My guess is that you set the heigt to zero but didn't uncheck the box or that you uncheck the boxes without zeroing the heights.

  • Officejet Pro L7680 won't print full Page from Win 8.1

Installed driver for this printer on a 64bit Dell XPS running 8.1. The data on the computer says the installation is satisfactory.
    The printer printed a full page fax report and self diagnostic page. But when prining a full page from Word, or the internet it will only print about half a page. then it may stop, or it may print a series of pages with a few characters on them.  The print queue says that all of the data has been transmitted to the printer. It will print a full page with little content, like a row of x's at the top of the page, a row in the middle, and a row at the bottom. It also prints a full page from  excel if the spreadsheet contains only a small amount of data.  The same printer prints, faxes, and scans satisfactorily from an older computer running XP.   What can I do to the driver to have it print full pages?  Printer model no is C8189A, serial No {Personal Information Removed}

I have same problem, hope someone answers.

Muse uses Fixed width Layouts so that is not 100% possible. You can extend images and box elements to full width but not actual content.

  • Flow full page graphic with text

Working on a 200+ pg book in InDesign CC 2014. I need to place some PDF Charts that the client wants to appear on a full page, near where the text references it–so, for example, if the left hand page refers to the chart, the chart would be the full right hand page. I know how to do in-flow/anchored object, but if I insert it into the spot where the reference is, since it's full page it doesn't fit and the copy would stop at that point and continue after the inserted object. I want the copy on the left to continue down the page, but have my PDF somehow be anchored to the next page so that as additional text gets added earlier in the book, I don’t have to manually move the charts. The charts can be on a left or right page, but they all take up a full page. I tried one set as an anchored object with the PDF frame set to text wrap and and it sort of worked, but if there needs to be more than one reference on a page, ID won't let the next frame be offset to a page not on the spread.
Hope this is clear and any suggestions, instructions, appreciated.
    Jeff

  • Maintain custom page size with bleed

I use CS4 and when working in Illustrator ( and later taking into a book in InDesign) how do I maintain custom page size with bleed in Illustrator when saving as PDF .
I have been told my files are not print ready and have no bleed even though I set a bleed and accurate (custom)page size initially. It seems I lose these when I save as a PDF for Printers to use.

Sometimes and I will check the way I do that, though usually I move from
from AI ,  save as print quality PDF and still seem to lose the bleed. Is
there a setting I should be using for the PDF?

  • Indesign document PDFs with Black outline around pages ... and ...

    Hi guys
I have posted this problem in the acrobat section but have thought it could be an indesign issue also.
Basically I am PDFing an InDesign CC document with crop and bleed for a printer.  For some reason, on some pages, it adds a black/grey outline to pages, and in some cases seems to crop the page so there is no bleed.
Any thoughts?  Original post with image can be seen here: PDF has strange black outline at printers end?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply Rob.  This is not the case - I know this as other pages in the document have there bleed correct (5mm all around).  I have resolved the black outline issue, but now have this bleed issue.  On my screen the PDF looks fine but for some reason when the printer opens it, they do not get the bleed on the left edge!
    Thanks

  • Full page prints from iPhone but not from iPad using photo app with AirPrint ?

Full page prints from iPhone but not from iPad using photo app with AirPrint ? iPad only prints 4x6 on full size paper. It's an HP 8600.

I also have this problem printing photos from an iPad to an Epson WF-2540 printer. It prints only 4x6 and without border (so print starts at extreme top left corner of paper). Borderless printing is not selected on printer. Printing a square photo just crops to 4x6 size.

It's a Magic Mouse question. I have set this up in Preferences by ticking Swipe between pages with one finger and also Swipe between full-screen apps with two fingers,  however when I try to do the latter, the 2 finger swipe will take me from the app that I am on to the dashboard only and not to my other open apps.
I also find that Smart zoom only works with some apps, for instance not with Word docs or email.
How can I correct this please?

Just figured out it also does not work with the Mail app.

  • How to digitize a physical book (scanned pfd file) to a kindle format with Indesign? pages are 8x11.

How to digitize a physical book (scanned pfd file) to a kindle format with Indesign? pages are 8x11.
I have all scanned pages, but the kindle format offered on the Indesign options is bigger. What should I do? Do I start a book from scratch with the scanned pictures or do I leave the pages with the white space on them with the kindle option of Indesign.

    Hi barbaraegarza,
For your situation, you could try using alternatives like PDF4Kindle, Calibre, or Papercrop.  But based on what I've read and my quick experiment, depending on the complexity of  your PDF, it may be more effort than it's worth to try to convert a PDF into a legible Kindle, ePub, or any other e-reader file.
I did a quick test on Calibre with a 16-page PDF that contained multiple columns and images.  The results were illegible!  It ran the lines from each column together, making the text difficult to comprehend.  Calibre explains why PDFs are difficult to convert -- Ebook Conversion — calibre User Manual.  I have not tried the other two applications that I suggested above, but I would assume that the results would be very similar.
I don't know what kind of results you got when you converted it in InDesign, but if your first test turned out fine and it was just the size of the file that you are concerned about, you could use Acrobat to reduce your PDF's file size and convert it to the Kindle format in InDesign again.
    Hope this helps.  Good luck!

  • I need a full page bleed for an image!

I've tried just about everything to figure this one out, but I'm starting to suspect the feature is just not available. I'm working on a book and will self publish it, so I need to put the illustrations into the body of the work. Which isn't hard to do, but I need the image to bleed into the margins, basically span the entire page. The only way I can seem to do this is to eliminate the margins entirely, but of course I need the margins for the text. So, is there a way to eliminate the margins just for the image?
While I'm here I might as well address the other issue I'm having: I need to save an image at 300 DPI but I constantly have problems getting the size right if I do so. I know the max pixels is 2000, but for printing specs I need the cover image for the book to be 6.25x9.25, which comes out to 1875 x 2775 pixels at 300 DPI. Perhaps Appleworks is not the program to do this in, but unfortunately my old iMac has no room for larger programs. Hmm.....Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi Paul,
On a typewriter, you'd call then the Margin stops.
If you want to eliminate the headers on pages with pictures, try this addition to Yvan's suggestions:
For the first page where you want a picture, put a section break at the end of the previous page, then go Format > Section...
Set the section to begin on a New Page, and Click the checkbox for Title Page. Click OK.
After inserting the picture, don't use a Section break to move to the next page. Press enter to insert a Column break or shift-enter to insert a Page break (both have the same effect in a single column document).
For each new picture, insert a section break at the end of the page before. The new section will start on a new page, and the headers and footers will be suppressed on this 'Title' page.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • *Full page bleed

I have my printer (Epson 300) set for full page printing and it will print that way in CS5.  In LR3 I cannot get it to print full page.  The bleed space at the bottom of the page is 1/2" and I cannot (in custom moode) move a cell into that bottom 1/2".  How can I change this to be able to use that space?
    Thanks much for your help,
    Al

Maybe you have already done this.  But in the Print module you need to set all of the margin sliders to 0.  Then you need to go into Page Setup (button in the left-hand panel) and choose the appropriate printer settings.  Also, in the right-hand panel under Image Settings, be sure to check the option, "Zoom to Fill".
