InDesign "has stopped working"

Hi there! I've had creative suite 5 for a few years now, which includes inDesign cs5.5 and I've been using the program fine this entire time. I downloaded the newest trial version of InDesign, which is Creative Cloud now because a friend wanted me to proofread a document she created that my cs5.5 couldn't open. Anyways, after I read it, I uninstalled the trial version(inDesign CC) since I already had inDesign cs5.5 but now my original version won't start up at all. I have to get this going ASAP and I've searched everywhere, as well as re-installed inDesign CC again to see if maybe the two programs accidentally overlapped each other or something. This isn't making sense to me, how could the installing of CC upset my Cs5.5?? Can someone please help! All I get is a "Has stopped working" and windows is searching for a solution blah blah. Is my only option to completely reinstall my Creative Suite?

Most probably, yes. Reason: The suites shares components which have been overwritten by the CC version. They are intended to coexist, but problems like this can occur and are not rare.
Alternatively you may try this first: change to another user on your PC and try to start there. It might help to fix it for you as user. Or copy the preferences files to a backup location, delete the original one, start again so Indesign acts like starting the first time, including registration of all plugins, and if it works again, write back the prefs file.

  • Error message Adobe InDesign has stopped working as soon as I open the application

I had a computer crash on Friday and I just reinstalled InDesign this weekend and it has worked fine. This afternoon I started to receive an error message that Adobe InDesign has stopped working and Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is available. I've rebooted and closed every other program. I have also been downloading my lost files from Carbonite since yesterday and have paused the download. Do I need to uninstall the program and reinstall?

Use System Restore to go back before the crash.

  • Message "InDesign Has Stopped Working"

    Hi,
I work with ID CS5, version 7.03. The problem was also happening on version 7. I'm on a network system.  The problem started approx 4 weeks ago and seems to be worsening.   Problem, 8 out of 10 times when I open a document a get a message "Adobe IndDesign CS5 has stopped working. I get this message before the document is even open.  The program tries to find a fix, but ends up closing or I select the "close" option.  When I open the same document again, a pop up reads "document may be damaged, do you want to open anyways?" .
Can someone tell me why ID is doing this? What is happening to my documents?  Are they really damaged?  What problems will I have with them?  What can I do to resolve this?
    Thank you.

I understand, it could be many things... I will follow through with all your advise.
    Thank you.

  • Windows Error: InDesign Has Stopped Working. Please Help!

InDesign just stopped working after a blue screen yesterday, and nothing will fix it. I've searched online, tried several solutions, and eventually did a full uninstall (using Adobe CC Cleaner) and reinstall; same message. All other CS programs are fine. I have got to get this fixed, can anyone help?
    Windows 7, 64-bit. CS 5.5

I tried the manual prefs replacement. There was no InDesign Defaults file in the path listed for the first part; I removed the Indesign SavedData file on the second part. I can't find any InDesign Recover folder. Now I get a message that the program can't start because MSVCP90.dll is missing and suggests I re-install the program. I tried a couple of things to fix that with no success, but I have not tried to re-install InDesign (yet again.).
My default printer is access via WiFi, I don't have a direct connection to it.
I've also tried running InDesign as Administrator and  creating a new user file with no luck.
    What's next?!??

  • Every time I try to open inDesign in starts to load the start up screen, but then fails and says inDesign has stopped working. What do I do?

When it fails it says " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly."
I tried to update Creative Cloud and update my inDesign to see if they would make it open, but that didn't work.

    Some ideas/questions:
    Minimum PC specifications met?
If Windows, are there other system problems to be solved? Topic: maintenance center
    Installation was successful, without warnings?
Is any anti-virus software installed and probably interfering?
Try to create a new user and try there.
If Windows: switch off any non-Windows background software temporarily and try again. If it works then, enable them again step by step to find the culprit.

  • Error message Program has stopped working

Several days ago, adobe forced an update. Since that time none of my CS5 components will work. They start opening and then an error message appears. InDesign has stopped working, Photoshop has stopped working, etc. All components show exactly the same message. The one common thread is that when I look at my Win 7 event viewer all events reference the same file...amtlib.dll

  • InDesign CS6 "has stopped working" on Windows 7.

    Adobe Community,
I just bought a new computer and am in the process of downloading my standard set of programs. I'm testing everything out and InDesign fails to stay open past the new project window. The error just reads the it has stopped working and then windows closes it. I got it to work once or twice as an administrator by right clicking on the launch icon and running it as such. But this doesn't always work. I ran into a similar issue with photoshop and resolved it by changing the cache location under the preferences menu. InDesign doesn't have this setting though so I'm out of luck. Anybody come across the same issue? Windows doesn't give me any more specific error information. I'm not sure what to do at the moment.
    Help?

So this is what the event viewer is showing me. Any thoughts? I looked into some other solutions from the suggested thread but had no success.

  • InDesign CC has Stopped Working when I try to edit a particular document

Hi, I am working on a large price list document of 200 pages. Basically it's a very long table which spans the whole 200 pages and is formated to show in two columns on each page.
My InDesign is working fine normally, and it allowed me to create this document ok yesterday, however, after quitting out of the document yesterday, it will nolonger allow me to open it. When I try to go back into the document it crashes with the Indesign CC has stopped working error. I dont think the file is corrupt as I took a backup of it straight after quitting out of it and the backup also won't allow me back in it. (I took the backup because I had the same issue when I tried to create a similar document just after CC was launched)
    Example of document:
Ive looked at Windows Even Viewer and the error that it shows is as follows:
    InDesign.exe
       9.2.0.69
       5297b4c4
       Public.dll
       9.2.0.69

       813d1150-ab6a-11e3-801b-8851fb5e5754
I dont get this crash with any other documents I work on, Anybody any ideas please?
    Thanks
    Rich

Not much to go on there.
A couple of things to try..
See if it will open after a reboot.
See if it will open in the 32 bit version. That also should be installed by default on your Windows system.
See if it will open in a different user account.
Try the blind export script and then open the .idml if successful: Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.

  • Adobe InDesign CC has stopped working

When trying to open InDesign CC (Trial), get error message "
Adobe InDesign CC has stopped working."
    and
It caused other problems in computer.  Proessional technician who cleaned up computer uninstalled inDesign - saying it appeared to be corrupt - and that I should redownload it and reinstall.
I did that, but the same messages still appear.
    Any suggestions?

This is weird. I re-built my PC a couple of weeks ago and re-installed all the Adobe CC products that I use. Before that, I always found the InDesign defaults file with no trouble. However, now it is nowhere to be found. The path you give in Replace your Preferences doesn't exist. There isn't even an 'appdata' folder. I have searched the whole of the drive and found neither appdata nor InDesign defaults. I have launched Id many times since the re-build, but the path has not been created. Could appdata be hidden? If so, how do I reveal it? All help appreciated.

  • Adobe InDesign CC 2014 has stopped working

So...I am trying to help our Marketing Manager with some problems with Adobe InDesign CC 2014. On startup of the program, more often than not it comes up with:
Adobe InDesign CC 2014 has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Windows doesn't do anything.
We have tried refreshing the preference folders as dictated by other members. No joy. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the whole Adobe suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
On occasion, InDesign does start up and there is a problem with text boxes. When a text box is moved or resized, copied, the text in the box disappears. It will only return if you select the text tool and hover over the box. It is not to do with snapping to grid lines, etc.
Can someone please advise on what we should do?

  • Infuriating 'Adobe InDesign CC 2014 has stopped working error' has lost me a day. Just got dumped by chat support...

    Hi All,
I've taken a few deep breaths before writing this to try and avoid a hugely frustrated rant.
To summarise; since early this morning my previously healthy version of InDesign CC 2014 has been unable to open, crashing at the 'Executing startup services...' stage with the error message 'Adobe InDesign CC 2014 has stopped working'. I worked on it all day yesterday and use it extensively every day more or less, this problem came out of nowhere overnight. I didn't do any kind of system update in the interim period. I'm using a HP Envy dv7 Notebook PC running Windows 8.
I tried as much as I could based on my own very limited knowledge and some forum searching. I re-installed the software. Did that again using the Adobe CC cleaner .exe file in between un-install and re-install. I uninstalled older versions of the software (which all worked fine - as does the rest of the Creative Suite software I have installed. I deleted extensions. None of this helped.
I then went looking for Adobe support and got a guy via Adobe's chat controlling my PC from afar and trying some much deeper technical stuff. After two hours he said that it was an OS issue, sorry... after a bit of dismayed pleading he said OK, I'll try one more thing and made me a new user with administration power, told me to login in to that account and try again. I did, it worked! But it's still broken on my main account and he disconnected in the few minutes I was gone and I now seem to be frozen out of chat help. HELP!
What does this mean? All CS/CC software seems to be working fine on my normal account apart from InDesign CC 2014. I have a huge file, now very close to being overdue, which I was working on in 2014 CC and can't be opened by older versions. The software works on this other account - so I guess I can work there short term. But how do I get it fixed on my main account?
Hopefully someone out there has the answer?
    Thanks!
    Luke

First, see Replace Your Preferences and do it for the original account.
If that fails to solve the problem, rename the two Adobe folders that contain the prefs in the user profile for that account and copy the folders from the new account where it works. You want to be sure you copy the folders, rather than merge the contents, so you must rename the old folders first.

  • Adobe InDesign CC2014 has stopped working

I subscribed 2 days ago to Adobe CC but am unable to work on InDesign without getting this response....
"Adobe InDesign CC2014 has stopped working... A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Close program"
Where is Adobe on this issue—any explanation?

If you are able to open ID and do other work, the problem has nothing to do with permissions, so you may safely ignore all of that stuff.
This sounds like some sort of corruption in the style or specific text, ot perhaps a corrupt font (but that would probably cause a crash in ID at launch or whenever the font is used). Start with the technique out lined here: Remove minor corruption by exporting
If that does not work, see if you are able to export the problem story to InDesign Tagged Text (click the cursor anywhere in the story, but don't make a selection, then choose export from the file menu and tagged text from the type dropdown). Place the tagged text into a new frame, then use copy/paste to replace the original text.

  • Adobe InDesign CS6 Has stopped working error message

    Hi,
I have Adobe InDesign CS6 on Windows 7 64 bits Enterprise Edition
When I open a document and try to export the document to pdf my indesign crash whith following message "Adobe inDesign CS6 has stopped working"
It happens on some docuemnts but now all documents.
    Please help.

Was that a typo and you meant NOT all documents?
Windows isn't quite as easy to diagnose crashes as Mac becuase it doen't providet he same crash reports, so we pretty much have to play Twenty Questions...
Let's start with some basic troubleshooting. Presuming this is isolated to just some files, start with this: Remove minor corruption by exporting
If that doesn't work, can you export half of the doc at a time?
Create a new user account onthe machine and log in using that. Are you able to export the document to PDF without a crash?
