InDesign Help - eps file text going transparent.

I am building a business card for a client and they provided me with an .eps logo. In the logo there is a white script font along the bottom of it with their saying. I place this into inDesign and everything looks fine until i .pdf the file and the text goes transparent so only the drop shadows on the letters are visible.
- I have tried going into the eps and the text is already converted to curves so it can't be a font problem.
- I changed the color of the text from white to 1% black thinking maybe the eps was dropping the color but i get the same results, even when i changed it to a hot pink as a test (same problem just a transparent pink).
- I tried saving the file as an .ai file and bringing it in and I get the same problem.
All of us in the art room have never seen this from the new CS3 lineup before and we are stumped. If you can come up with any suggestions on how to solve this it would be appreciated, The client needs their cards soon and I can't give them this without that line of script.

The white is set to overprint. Open it in Illustrator and fix it. While
you're at it resave it as a AI or PDF.

  • How do I invert colours on an EPS file with a transparent background in Adobe InDesign CS6?

    Help!!
I'm fairly new to InDesign and pretty basic in terms of my knowledge but surely this can be done right?....
I have a black and white EPS logo which I would like to be transparent and white to put on a different colour background? (I do also have a JPEG version of the logo too if that makes any difference)?

  • Can I typeset Chinese in InDesign CC? The text goes from top to bottom and right to left.

    Hi!
Can I typeset Chinese in InDesign CC? I have downloaded the Chinese version of InDesign CC, but couldn't get the text to go from top to bottom and right to left. Do I need to download some sort of plug-in for this type of work?
    Thanks!

There's little to nothing Adobe Reader can do about this.
The free Adobe Reader cannot create PDF, cannot export PDF page content and cannot manipulate PDF page content.
What is "on" a PDF reflects what was "printed" to PDF from back in the authoring file.
It is within the authoring file where you must make adjustments.
A related "source" issue is what label stock is specifically supported by the authoring application.
While all vendors claim their stuff is alway the same as your stuff that is often not the case.
A 1/64 th of an inch or less difference will put a wooden shoe in the works.
    Be well...

  • EPS file placed within INDD art shows crop marks when exported to PDF

    Hi Friends -
I have a INDD art file I'm working on, within which I placed an EPS image.  Upon exporting the INDD art to PDF, the document has what appear to be crop marks surrounding the EPS image.  This is not where the image should be cut, and these marks are being shown in a functional part of the design.  Here is a screenshot of one corner of the EPS; the other 3 corners have identical marks:
    Additional information:
    - MS Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
    - InDesign CS5.5  Version 7.5.3
    - Marks are generated during export process/conversion to PDF; they are not visible in InDesign.
    - EPS file does not create these crop marks when placed into another INDD file and exported using the same process as above.
    - No other elements of the INDD file have similar marks displayed after export.
Any help with where I might find the setting in INDD to turn this OFF would be greatly appreciated!
    D

That was probably the most expeditious reply I've ever received in a forum.
Anyhow, the crop marks are not part of the actual EPS image.  Opening the EPS file in PS or AI reveals no stray crop marks so, unless the marks are somehow part of the EPS settings rather than a visible element of the image, I think it has something to do with INDD and its settings.  To confirm, I did place this EPS in another INDD document and an export procedure utilizing the same steps does not reproduce the crop marks.

  • Applied 55% transparency to group of objects, but a placed .eps file is darker than things created natively in InDesign

    hey guys,
I'm working on a math book and for some reason, my placed .eps files (which are used for equations) are appearing darker than the other items when set to 55% opacity. I've ensured that everything is set to 100% opacity before grouping, then grouped and set to 55%. My only thought is maybe the eps is RGB when the other things are CMYK...and if this is the case, I'm not sure how to test / fix it. Other than that idea, I have no clue as to where to begin in addressing this issue.
The cheese is real with this example.
You can see here that I'm applying the 55% opacity to the entire group. I've also ungrouped all of the objects, made sure they're at 100% opacity, then grouped and set to 55%.
You can see here that the text is 100% black.
    Thanks!

Sorry, I Googled around a bit, but not quite sure what you mean by distilling the PDF. I've exported the PDF as a "High Quality PDF", and the issue still persists there. Should I alter the PDF export options some?

  • ALT text not appearing in PDF for EPS files

    Hi,
I have a created a document in InDesign CS5.5 which has images and text. the document should be accessibility complaint.
The document has images which are in PSD, tiff, eps and PNG files. I have applied the Alt text for each images.
After I export the document as PDF, when I mouse over the images, the Alt text is appearing for all the image formats except EPS file format. But Acrobat reads the Alt text for the image.
I am wondering why the Acrobat is not showing the ALT text for EPS file formats when i mouse over the image.
Is anyone facing the same problem? should I do anything in the settings?
    please help.
    Regards
    Ramji V K

The EPS image is not created in photoshop. the image is created in Illustrator.
Also, what do you mean by Single image? can you please explain a bit more about that?
    Thanks.

  • InDesign CS4 Splitting colors from EPS file

I have CS4 and use illustrator to create logos, which I convert to eps files and place in InDesign.  When I place the eps file into InDesign, sometimes, it splits the color of the EPS file down the middle and creates a light side and a dark side.  Sometimes, this prints ok and other times, it prints with the split colors (light/dark).  I have tried re-creating the logo file, recreating the inDesign file and nothing works. There is nothing showing behind the logo box in the InDesign file.  I even had someone else convert the logo in CS5 and the same think happened.  Does anyone have a clue as to what might be going on here?  Any advice would be helpful.

I am not sure I know what you mean. But eps does not work in InDesign, SRiegel is right, make it an ai file. Do you know you can copy the illustrator file and place it in InDesign? Or you can check the colours in the seperation box. Maybe you can see what is happening.
Actually, SOME .eps files can be problematic, but there's no blanket reason not to try them if you already have them. For new work, or for files that show a problem, saving as .ai or PDF is the way to go.

  • Indesign EPS files cannot be opened by other users

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me out...
I'm trying to export something to a client as an .eps from InDesign CS5.5. I can export it fine, I can open it on my laptop
without any problems using my other copy of InDesign...
But when the other person tries to open the file ( I thnk they are using Corel PaintShopPro X4) it simply produces an
error message saying that the file is either corrupt or uses unsupported features.
The file I am trying to export is vector (ungrouped and outlined to remove any font issues) and also contains JPGs
within the design. ( I have also tried sending him just a page with a vector outline box and nothing else on it and that
    won't open either.)
    Anyone have any suggestions please???
    Many Thanks,
    Jerry

First, a very genuinely felt thank-you to all those who have contributed to this, I really appreciate your input, help and time in trying to help me understand this issue more completely.
    # Peter - Why not do it in Illy?  No specific reason, probably that I am just more familiar with Indesign, and until working for this particular client had never had a problem
with anyone else opening or using an .eps file for my design work. The reason they have a problem - proprietery software BASED on Corel, but not Corel that they themselves
seem not to fully understand leaving me with the problem of trying to work out why for them!
    # Mike - I think you are correct, and it sounds as if you have sent work off to engravers before...Is that the case???
But just to re-emphasise - they are NOT using CorelDraw or PSP X4 - but I do know that their own software is based on it.
    # Bob - of course you are right, but the company won't provide me with a copy of their software - and in my opinion they don't fully understand it themselves.
I think they commisioned someone to make them software to control their lazers - they are in the lazer manufacturing business, not software developers...and despite
many and long conversations with their "technical expert" they are unable to supply any definitive answers - we've even driven 1/2 way across the country and spent
a day there with them and still cannot work out the inconsistencies.
#Dov - thanks for such a detailed and definitve response. I wasn't criticising Adobe or expecting a "magic wand" solution, hope it didn't come across like that!
So, finally a conundrum: Can someone please tell me why:-
If I create a new document in Indesign Cs5.5 and simply add a vector square in black to it and save it as an EPS it won't open in Corel PaintShopPro X4.
If I copy and paste the self-same document into illustrator and export as an eps using the same postscript level, the same encryption (ASCII), the same preview...
It DOES open in Corel PaintShopPro x4.
It isn't fonts, or transparencies, or layers, or OPI conversions...so what the heck is it???

  • Why does placed eps file containing a drop shadow lose transparent background?

When I place an eps file from adobe illustrator cs6, which has a drop shadow, into InDesign the file loses its transparent background and comes in with a solid white background. I'v selected the "Transparent" radial button in Illustrator while saving the file to eps but it doesn't work. Any ideas???

EPS means Encapsulated PostScript (it's really PostScript code wrapped up in a capsule that allows you to place it into other applications as an image), and the PostScript specification doesn't include transparency. That's why even though you have transparency in the Illustrator image, it's format won't translate that transparency data into usable transparency when you place it into InDesign. Lack of transparency support is one of the main reasons people recommend not using eps in a modern workflow.

  • Distiller error from Indesign EPS-file

I cannot generate a pdf in distiller pro 9 from a EPS generated by Indesign CS4. The EPS is quite large (2.32GB) both in filesize as in dimension (177cm wide by 40cm)
Can anybody help me out here?
    thanks

    The errorlog is

Usually the nostringval error points to a font.  You might try replacing any fonts that appear in the EPS file.  The syntaxerror portion refers to possible data corruption but could also point to missing font elements.

  • Help with imported eps files from photoshop and illustrator using PANTONE

I am new to InDesign and running into some very frustrating issues. I am preparing a catalogue for print which was created in Quark XPress previously. I tried converting it initially but had all kinds of strange things happening with type re-wrapping. The printer advised to recreate in InDesign. FIne by me because I'll learn as I go along.
So I created a page in InDesign and place and eps file created in Illustrator using a spot Pantone color and a halftone created in Photoshop also using the same spot Pantone color. In InDesign the color swatch menu show both colors one as 228 C and the other as 228 C 1. How do I get just one definition for PMS228 coated that works across all three programs? Stuff like this pisses me off. Adobe should have one definition across all three.
    Help!!!

My best guess for the two definitions is that the CMYK values of the colours do not match, so InDesign treats them separately. You can merge them using the In Manager. Open the Swatches panel and select Ink Manager from the flyout menu. Select PANTONE 228C 1, go to the Ink Alais pop-up menu, and select PANTONE 228. Now InDesign will treat the two colours as one separation on output.
You should also take the time to open each graphic and resave as a native file. This means .psd for Photoshop and .ai for Illustrator. While there, see if you can make sure the colour names and definitions are consistent.

  • Need fast help... problem with .eps files

So I'm in a bind helping my company put out T-Shirts...
We need things in .eps format. I'm the one who has some design experience so I've been doing it. What we need though is the design to be saved on a transparent background so when it's imported into our T shirt program, it doesn't maintain the square from the artboard.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.. any guidance?

Eps files generally have no background.
Are you certain here isn't just a white square or something in the file?
Or.. is there a drop shadow or outer glow applied? These effects will cause a background because of the transparency. Because an EPS is a flat file format, the best you can do is put a box matching the background color you want behind the shadow/glow, then save as EPS. Or remove the effect.

  • Why are equally layouted embedded texts in an eps-file saved differently?

    Hi everyone!
I have a problem with the LaTex package "PSfrag" which is supposed to filter out any specific embedded text of an eps-file in order to re-layout it. Obviously the programm only recognises text-tags in the output eps-file that are formatted like:
    (text-tag1)sh
whereas the other text-tags are followed by further strange information like
    (text-tag2)
    [3.74512 3.74463 0 ]xsh
I've created the eps-files via Adobe Illustrator and I've set all texts the same way only to find that Illustrator has saved some texts in the first and others in the latter way. I would be most happy to know  why that is so and how I could accomplish the )sh-ending throughout the whole eps-file for every text event so that "PSfrag" can work out well. I'd appreciate it if anyone can give help...

I guess it's the old gag of "appearance over structure" which also makes AI's SVG files so unworkable at times... What might be causing those differences is impossible to say without seeing the files, but it would appear you have a custom line height in your non-working example, causing it to be required to be written differently. I'm sure Gernot Hoffman can answer this more specifically...

  • HT3529 my iphone just stop connecting to my wifi and i have tried all the recommended troubleshooting with no success. Also when i send a text , it shows it coming from my email address instead of my cell #. i cant get a text going to my cell #. help

my iphone just stopped connecting to my wifi and i have tried all the recommended troubleshooting with no success. Also when i send a text , it shows it coming from my email address instead of my cell #.  i dont receive any text going to my cell #. help

If i understand what you are saying then you are seeing the WiFi indicator after connecting but Apps are saying that they are not connected to the internet?
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be to restart your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • Illustrator breaks text at a point when importing from an EPS file?

I am importing an EPS file from a statistical software. All text strings that belong together are in brackets ( ), so the EPS file is OK. When AI creates the chart it happens that the last glyph is a new and independent text string (text at a point).
Is it possible to force AI to respect the structure of the EPS file.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    No.
You can only fix it afterwards.
