  • Hyperlink failure on last pages of PDF (exported from InDesignCS)

Per Bill@VT from the Acrobat Forum, I'm posting my Acrobat/InDesign question here as well. I thank you in advance for any possible assistance:
Hello. I have a 211-page catalog I've created in InDesign CS in which I have created hundreds of Hyperlinks (for Export to a PDF for CD distribution). I exported the file to Adobe PDF using general, automatic, medium compression settings (150 ppi) -- the CD's main purpose is for viewing. All the links work great on every page of the PDF except on the last two pages, 210 and 211 (there is nothing different on these pages than any other). The links on page 211 all jump to page 210; links on 210 go nowhere. Even the links set on the master pages don't work; the URL links on page 211 also go to page 210.
I wondered about it being a capacity issue in Acrobat 7. The InDesign file is 190MB; the exported PDF file is 42.3MB. If capacity is the issue, any suggestions that might help? In some cases, the names of the Hyperlinks throughout the document are long (parts of sentences); would that be causing a problem?
Has anyone ever encountered this issue?
Any assistance is most greatly appreciated.
    Operating System: MS Windows 2000
    InDesign CS

I think the export feature in InDesign is a feature of that product and not Acrobat. Thus you will need to ask in that forum. There are folks here that may know because they also have InDesign. The long link names and potential problems suggests that you have an option in the export incorrectly selected and you are actually not using links. Acrobat will try to interpret things it sees as links as such (like WORD and other products) but may not get them right if they are strange links. In such a case you have 2 options: 1. Be sure you have the proper feature selected for exporting the links (so they are included) or 2. Fix the links so they satisfy proper URL formatting. For instance, spaces are not standard in links, even if MS products like to use them.

  • Indesign CC failure in Find/Replace action!

I have been suffering of Indesign crashes since 2011. Usually it is happening when I do some kind of Find Replace action. When I click the Search body to view smth (Find format), sometimes Indesign falls down.
I thought mostly it is a bug of CS6, but now I'm on CC and good morning Eliahu - all these problems are still here.
What should I do? It is imposiible to suffer such failures year after year. It happens on all kinds of OS and computers.

    thanks for reply

  • InDesign Hyperlinks not updating when book is packaged

We create a 220 page product catalogue using an InDesign book.
The book contains about 40 documents for each section and the contents page uses Hyperlinks to jump to the sections and back to the contents when exported to PDF.
    All of this works perfectly.
We then create a second version of this book by simply packaging the book (so we can reprice for the NZ market)
When we package the InDesign Book to create the second version of the catalogue, the Hyperlinks don't update to link to the version 2 documents.
So after you have packaged version 2 and you open the contents document and view the Hyperlinks window, all of the hyperlinks are there, but when you Click To Open Destination it opens the version 1 document?
We then need to manually go through and relink all of he hyperlinks.
I would expect the hyperlinks would update in the same way Links do after packaging?

Assuming that you have correct set-up for your statutory area, there might be an error for your statutory posting. Please run ASKBN to know the error. This will help to identify how to resolve your problem.
    Thanks!

  • InDesign: Hyperlinks funktionieren nicht

    Hallo zusammen!

  • Why do imported hyperlinks from Word not show up in Indesign Hyperlinks panel?

    ID CS6 Windows 7
I am able to copy and paste hyperlinked text from Word into ID and everything works ok-- when exported to PDF the links work fine.
except now client wants to rename the text of the hyperlink- but there seems to be no way to even see what the URL destination is.
None of the Word links show up in the Hyperlinks panel.
I have to find out the URL and delete the original linked text and redo them.

Um. Are you not talking about proper URLs? I kind of assumed you were :)
Actually, hyperlinks *should* import just nicely into ID, not only plain URLs but also those with alternative text. But if they do, they'd show in the hyperlink panel ...
Can you check if they are mentioned in the Hyperlink Destination list in your ID document? That would confirm or disprove they are actually present, at some level.

  • Can you set InDesign Hyperlink default selections?

I'm wondering if it's possible to have the 'SHARED DESTINATIONS' check box in particular deselected when creating a new Hyperlink. There are other settings that I'd like to be able to set as well, but I have a feeling it's not possible (since you have to have an actual document open with text selected to create a hyperlink, and most defaults in INDD are created with no documents open).

Did you ever find an answer to your question?

  • [CS6][JS]XML cross-ref to InDesign hyperlinks

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to import xml and create hyperlinks with xml cross-references for tables, figures, and references. So i'm planning to create a script to select the certain xml elements and create hyperlink destination based on id attributes value then search for all xml elements citation in the body pertaining to those elements then create new hyperlink and link to them. Can you point me to the right direction please.
    TIA.

  • Keynote hyperlink failure in iweb

I have created a flash file in keynote, then exported it to iweb .... all works fine; except for any hyperlinks that were created with the file. These seem to disappear when it gets exported into iweb. The only solution that I've found is to create an invisible box shape over the subject once it's been exported, and then enable that as a hyperlink. However this doesn't cause the arrow to change to a hand, which is what I want.
    Any help out there?
    Macbook using keynote08 and iweb08.

Duncan, the reason for the Hyperlink not appearing as such is beyond me, but the solution would be easy.
Just make a "click me to continue" notice somewhere on the page.
Many Flash intro's have these so why not yours?

  • Hyperlinks don't work in swf produced by CS5 InDesign

Created file with CS5 InDesign. Everything except hyperlinks works. Buttons work. Timing works. Layers work. Hyperlinks don't.
The file is still on my hard drive. Pointer changes to indicate when over link. Clicking produces no effect.

I also have this problem. It's an InDesign CS5 multi paged document that I have exported to Flash. The links are to other web pages.
I don't think the answer about security settings is the whole story as I've created a pdf from the same document and the links work from there. The links also work when I test them in the InDesign hyperlinks palette. They just do nothing when exported to SWF. In fact the relevant button is disabled also (rollover doesn't work).
If this can't happen it makes the whole InDesign to SWF thing a bit of a dud!
    Anyone got anyclues?
    Thanks, Tiara5

  • Unchecking "Shared Hyperlink Destination" causes InDesign CS5.5 to crash

This occurs on multiple Macs (running either Leopard or Snow Leopard) in our office. The links are connected to conditional text in InCopy. Here's the scenario:
    1) Open the InDesign document and select the linked text.
    2) Get a dialog box: "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" Click "Yes."
    3) Copy the text of the link, right-click and select "New Hyperlink."
    4) In the "New Hyperlink" window, paste in the text of the URL (leaving in the http://).
    5) Uncheck "Shared Hyperlink Destination." InDesign immediately crashes.
I've been told by our designers that you have to uncheck "Shared Hyperlink Destination" to prevent changes to all of the other related links in the document. I don't work with InDesign on a regular basis and have very limited knowledge of InCopy. I tested the current version of InDesign (7.5.3) on my Mac and the same crash occurred.

Thanks to you both. Excuse my ignorance - I presumed that 7.5.3 was a paid-for-upgrade to Creative Suite 6 (or higher?!)... I thought I had the Updater set to prompt me for updates, but I obviously didn't.
Anyhow - I've since run the updater, but the crash happens the same way. Here's the new crash report.
    http://pastebin.com/JNvtTRbn
Hopefully there's something of use in this - I really don't want to have to manually do this: I have nearly 200 film titles that need to be listed in alphabetical order with their respective page number, and the TOC feature would be the perfect solution if it actually worked...
As a matter of interest, how stable is Creative Suite 6 / Creative Cloud? Worth the leap?

  • Converting HTML Links to Hyperlinks in InDesign

Hi--I'm new to this forum, so forgive any newbie-ness...
Working on a pretty intense automated page layout which creates a product cut sheet based from content that is on the web (using AppleScript). One feature I'm trying to build in is to convert typical HTML href tags to an actual hyperlink in InDesign.
I'm using GREP to find all the html tags, which works very well.
What I can't do (and it might be a limitation of GREP in ID) is store the 'change to' locations as variables in AppleScript. For example, I use:
    --find the href tag
set find what of find grep preferences to "(?i)(<a href=\")(.+?)(\")(.*)(>)(.*)(</a>)"
--change to the stuff in the href=" " and the text I want to keep
set change to of change grep preferences to "$2 $6"
What I NEED is the ability to make $2 and $6 variables.
Any advice, tips, hints, tricks, and/or help?
    Thanks all!

Sorry, it's been a while since I solved this, so its not too fresh. There may be pieces missing. Here's the exerpt of what I did to change real html marked-up text (which contains hyperlinks) into real, clickable InDesign hyperlinks. In a few words, I found the html hyperlinks in the text, and "marked it up" with my own "xml" type language (for later). Then I think I made an array of every link and location, then had InDesign go through and convert to hyperlinks.

  • Create Hyperlinks that open in new tab or window?!

    Hello,
Ok, so, this has been asked other times for many versions of InDesign and most common response is to do it in Acrobat Pro. WHY?!!!! I couldn't even easily figure out how to do it there and frankly, don't want to. That seems so backwards and tedious to have to do...seriously. How is this not an option in InDesign Hyperlink edit creation/options yet?!! It is SO simple. Please tell me I'm missing something... I love Adobe products and especially CC products that are getting better and more time saving...but this is so dumb, I'm sorry. I'm no smarty software engineer but I know what user friendly is and how things should work for everyone...and it seems like an easy thing to make possible. Many people create PDF's in InDesign for viewing/downloading in a browser and this needs to be an option with-in InDesign CC. Simple as that. When the PDF is opened in Acrobat the links do open in new tab/window but NOT when it is viewed in a browser. This is why I should or maybe shouldn't work for Adobe, I wouldn't let little things like this, that actually makes a big difference in user experience, go unnoticed and unchanged over so many new releases and updates...or ever be taken away. I guess I'll put in an InDesign CC features request...
Thanks to anyone who agrees and relays...or lets me know I'm missing something.
    Andy
