InDesign/Illustrator crash at startup?

Yes, I've looked through most (if not all) of the previous threads that come close to matching my scenario, but none of the recommended solutions work inlcuding deleting preferences, launching from a different user account, removing the SING folder, etc.
I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.3-17-early-2 011-unibody-thunderbolt-specs.html) but with a 500 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM. I was able to run all Adobe CS 5.5 applications without problem until recently. As of today, Illustrator and InDesign quit unexpectedly before the splash screen even appears. Photoshop and Acrobat launch without problems. I did not install any software updates or modify the laptop in any way since before the apps were working.
I had the exact same problem about a month ago and after trying several of the options above, I finally backed up my files, wiped the drive, re-formatted and re-installed Snow Leaopard from scratch, re-installed all my apps and tried running InDesign and Illustrator and they worked again...for about three weeks. Now I'm back where I began.
InDesign 5.5 crash report (http://pasteit.com/18257)
Illustrator 5.1 crash report (http://pasteit.com/18258)
InDesign 4.1 crash report (http://pasteit.com/18259)
When I came across the thread about the crashes with Lion on 2012 MBPs, I thought it might have been related to my issue since I originally had Lion installed. I had to revert back to Snow Leopard in order to run PTI's FusionPro 7.2 software which is not Lion compatible. But then I learned that my laptop is a 2011 model so maybe that's not it either.
Any ideas that I haven't tried? Anyone else have a similar problem? I am currently using open source software (Scribus and Inkscape) until I can come up with a solution that does not involve wiping my hard drive every 3 weeks.

As a side note, the last time this occurred, I went so far as to uninstall Adobe CS and reinstall. The result was the same -- crash on startup for InDesign and Illustrator but not for Photoshop and Acrobat. When I wiped the machine, reinstalled the OS and all my apps/data, it worked again. For three weeks. As best I can tell, neither Adobe or Apple has updated thier software on my machine since the last time I had both apps working.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I have deleted preferences. Nothing works. Remainder of the creative suite launches fine.

  • Illustrator crashing on Startup

Hi there, is anyone experiencing Illustrator crashing on startup, and more importantly, solved the problem? I am running OSX 10.6.8, have set permssions to everyone, repaired disk permissions via Disk Utilities - but it still crashes. Any other ideas much appreciated.
    - Pete

Please perform steps 1-4, if it did work before mostly step 4 can solve your issue:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-mac.html
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-630ca .html#WS5631ebe4b42741f6-27ef1832129e9485608-8000
The Illustrator preferences file manages the commands and panel settings in Illustrator. When you open Illustrator, the positioning of panels and commands are stored in the Illustrator preferences file. If you want to restore the default settings for Illustrator or change the current settings, delete the Illustrator preferences. Illustrator automatically creates a preference file, when you restart Illustrator and save a file.
    Please rename the directory:

  • InDesign CS5 crashes on startup - Mac OSX Lion

    Hi Everyone,
I've reinstalled InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 after upgrading to Mac OSX Lion,
Photoshop and Illustrator work fine but InDesign crashes on startup.
I've followed a few threads on here, one suggested creating a new adimistrator-level user on my machine - and that works, but I can't figure out what to fix in my regular user to make InDesign work in here again...
This is the error report I'm getting:
    http://pastebin.com/a2LrMFdw
    Help, anyone?
    Thanks a lot!

I'm having a similar problem but I haven't been able to get it to work. I created a new administer level user but InDesign still won't open under that user. I've tried the other suggestions as well with no success. Please help!!!! It really doesn't help that I'm in South East Asia traveling with no fast internet to be found.  :\

  • Indesign CS5 crash during startup - problem with Graphics.rpln

I work in an architectural company and already several of our computers have experienced this very rare and unusual behaviour. During start up of Indesign (not clicking on any file but just launching Indesign) it crashes with the following error:
"Adobe Indesign CS5 has stopped working"
We use Windows 7 64bit, so the first step I did - I went into Application Log which says, so appears to be a problem with Graphics.rpln.

I have tried everything I could think of - removed and reinstalled Adobe CS5, manually removed Adobe folders under %Appdata%\Local and %Appdata%\Remote folders (why can't Adobe delete those things during uninstallation is always a total mystery), changed video adapter drivers, cleaned Temp folders, everything I knew...
None of the other apps like Photoshop or Illustrator CS5 malfunction - only Indesign. What is going on?
Can it conflict with other software we use? We have Bentley Microstation, 3D Max, Office 2010, Kaspersky Antivirus and LOGMEIN installed on this computer...Any clues, guys?

Looks to me like you've never installed any of the patches. Last patch for CS5 was 7.0.4, so I'd start with that and see if ti helps.

  • Illustrator crashes on startup - Win7

Just did a clean install of Win 7 64bit. The rest of CC seems fine. Illustrator keeps crashing as soon as I get through the splash screen. I've updated my graphics card driver, tried deleting various plug-ins, signed out and signed in, reinstalled the program, tried holding shift to open it in bare-bones mode...nothing. The only thing that does seem to work is when I disable my internet connection, then everything works fine.
I tried the steps from this link:
Illustrator CC or InDesign CC crashes at launch
But that appears to be set up for Illustrator 17, and I'm running 18.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Indesign CS4 crashes at startup

I have been using Indesign CS4 version 6.0 with no issues for several years. All of a sudden, it started to crash on startup. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I tried removing any documents in the recovery folder, I tried removing any settings/preferences. I can't figure it out. This is the error I receive.  (please note, I have the master collection, and my other programs load just fine)

I even contacted support and they couldnt help me. There was nothing in the forums, and everything is now for CS6 or CC versions.
    I found this:

Its the update, so I am guessing that something went wrong with an automatic update, because I installed it and it is working again!

    Reinstalling did not help
Also Adobe Encore CS6 seems to be affected

I looked at the recovery files in:
    C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en_US\Caches\InDesign
I deleted all the files and Indesign started up fine.  feeling good I closed Indesign and restarted.
    Indesign Crashed again.
Deleted all files again and reloaded.
I went to "Edit:Preferences:File Handling:Document Recovery Data"  to:
    G:\Adobe\Indesign\Cache\Recovery
Interestingly, the Indesign application recovery files still reside in the user directory above.   But the document recovery data moves to the G drive above.
There is no clear reason why Indesign quit loading today.  It worked fine since initial installation last year.  But separating the document recovery data from the application recovery data seems to fix the problem for now.

  • Adobe CS4 (64bit) Potoshop, InDesign, Premiere crashes on startup

I am in need of some major help.  I have a user who only on his profile Adobe Potoshop, InDesign, and Premiere crash on startup.  I've tried most of the basic trouble shooting but still not working.  Any Ideas?
    Computer Specs:
    HP z400 Workstation
    Intel Xeon W3520 2.66 8MB/1066
    6GB of RAM
    ATI FirePro V5700 512MB Graphics

I was going to suggest resetting application preferences, but with multiple applications crashing, perhaps the problem is with the system...
First, I think I'd look to see if there are any updated display drivers available for the user's system, from the web site of the maker of the display adapter (video card).
You can try to see if disabling OpenGL support in Photoshop restores operation:  Edit - Preferences - Performance, uncheck [ ] Use OpenGL Drawing.
If you do want to try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults, which is known to correct a lot of problems, have the user do this:
    1.  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately after starting Photoshop from its shortcut or menu item.
    2.  When the prompt "Do you want to set preferences back to defaults" comes up, confirm.
    Best of luck.

  • InDesign CS3 crashing on startup

    Hi
One of our plug-ins is causing InDesign CS3 5.0.3 (release version running on Windows XP) to crash on startup. This is only affecting one customer, on all their PCs, but we can't reproduce it in-house. It happened before, to the same customer and the same plug-in, a few months ago, and we 'fixed' it by reverting from the 5.0.3 SDK to the 5.0.1. However, now the problem has returned.
This isn't much to go on, but can anyone suggest what might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Charles

Well, I finally fixed it. It comes down to an issue with Visual Studio: that programs built with it will not necessarily run on a target PC that doesn't have VS. You have to run a Microsoft file called vcredist.exe on the target PC, which provides it with the missing DLLs etc. We knew about that, but it turns out that when we decided to service pack VS2005, we should have downloaded a new version of Microsoft's redistributable program.
Why only this customer was affected remains a mystery. At a guess they have installed some other piece of software that included incompatible versions of some DLLs, and running Microsoft's installer fixed things as a side effect.
The crash I was getting on one of our own PCs a couple of days ago now looks like a completely different bug introduced by my diagnostic code. I'd investigate further except I'm already sick of this problem, and all I need to do is remove the diagnostics.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

  • Illustrator crashes before startup

When I try to run Illustrator CS6, it crashes before startup and before the splash screen is displayed. I used strace and got the exception c00000fd at RegCreateKeyExW. All of the other CS6 applications run with no problem on my machine. I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 3, i5, 4GB RAM, 32-bit video card. Logged in as a different user and the problem was still there. I uninstalled CS6, used the cleaner tool, and reinstalled but the problem still existed. I do not have any third party plug-ins or preferences to reset because I have not used any of the applications since previously clearing out my preferences. I've been browsing this forum for any clues or solutions and nothing has worked. Any ideas as to what is going on???

Hey, I have the some problem! Natalie, did you solve the problem?if yes, how?
I tried everything, uninstalling, cleaning and re-installing. I tried also opening the Task Manager but Illustrator suddenly dies without any message.
And I don't understand the reason why all the other software of the Suite do work...

  • Since the update my illustrator crashes upon startup.

It suggest the fix for Suitcase Fusion 5. I have an extensis product but it is the Universal Type Client, not suitcase fusion. Is there a fix for Universal Type Client 4?

Adding my thanks to this thread also.
Safari was crashing on startup every time my wife tried to use it but always worked fine for me. We have separate IDs on our iMac and are running the same program from the Applications folder. So it had to be something in our Preferences or Library folders. Deleting her Safari Preferences file didn't fix the problem.
After deleting the Icons, History and even a Security folder from her Safari Library folder finally did the trick. Who would think cache files would found be in a folder called Icons? This is the first time I saw a Security folder. I hope this doesn't create any problems later for her.
