InDesign interactive question...

I have encountered a problem recently with InDesign interactive that I wasn't aware of up till now. When I position objects on the screen, that have motion applied, if they are placed in the same position on another page with no motion applied, they preview out of position... i.e they look visually different. Up or down a few pixels. I've even noticed that images and items are positioned where I want them in the X and Y coordinates – then when exporting they look out of position??? This is really causing me a lot of vexation at this point as I was working on a project for months when I just noticed some of this. Why does an item that is placed exactly where I want it, appear different when exported out as a swf and previewed. Is this something I wasn't aware of with pixel preview or something??? Anyone encountered this, and is there a way around it.
Thanks!

Basically if you create 4 objects, say squares... and turn them into buttons and position them on a page. Then apply motion to them, say fly in from right. If you take those same 4 buttons and position them on another page in the exact same position with no motion applied... when you export the 2 pages out, the page with the buttons that have motion applied is shifted 2-3 pixels up! So say you want the buttons to fly in from the right initially but on subsequent pages you want them to be fixed in their position. The buttons with motion applied after exporting are shifting or not exactly in the same position as the non - moving buttons. Needless to say that's not acceptable for presentation purposes. It's visible! Apparently I never noticed it because I was applying motion to all pages... Very disturbing as I use InDesign a lot for interactive stuff. Maybe a bug... not sure but I'd love to figure out what the problem is and or ask Adobe about it. Too bad you can't just call em' up on the phone anymore...
As Peter S said, it's also completely outside my workflow. However, a thought popped up: have you tried creating the objects on a master page that's applied to the particular document pages involved, then releasing (aka "override them locally") them on the page where you'll apply animation? If not, give it a try and let the forum know the results.

  • InDesign interactive pdf viewable?

I'm creating InDesign interactive pdfs with embedded multi-state objects, vide, and Flash games... Needless to say I'm creating these on a Mac and they preview correctly, my question is how current do various users have to be on their Flash plugins in either Flash player or their browser? And, if they're bowser is up to date with the latest Flash plugin do they need to have Flash player at all?
    Thanks...

...This is a newsletter, distributed by email. NOT mobile browsers, phones etc.
Most of the interactive features in InDesign are viewable in an interactive pdf. My real question what's the difference between viewing this in acrobat reader as versus using the web plugin for the browser? Is the Flash plugin you download the same as the one that runs in the browser? So if a users browser pluing was updated with the latest version of flash would it matter if they have Flash player loaded... I'm not sure if it's all the same thing anyway as I have Flash loaded on my machine so I can't tell what the hecks going on with reader and the PC...

  • InDesign interactive flash version?

Creating InDesign interactive pdfs, I'm wondering what the minimum requirements are for the flash plugin to view correctly? Since interactive features appeared in CS5 will interactive pdfs play on older flash plugins for acrobat reader... or does the latest version need to be used.

Ordinary interactive PDF features are still very useful. Buttons, Forms, Hyperlinks, Bookmarks, Transitions all can play in an interactive PDF without the Flash Player.
The only things that require Flash are the animations, Page Turn, Page Curl, placed SWF, and some of the button actions.
But without any of those, the interactive PDF is totally viable. Check out this discussion and the post I wrote:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1280516?tstart=0
Now, what about the future? I don't know. Honestly don't.
I desperately hope that Adobe can figure out some way to use the animations in InDesign in DPS and ePub. HTML 5 would be the most likely option. But right now, if you ask someone from Adobe about inserting animations into DPS, they will tell you about Edge Animator. That's the current flavor of the month for easy-to-create animations. (Although I find ID's animation tools easier.)
PDF is way too entrenched to die. But I do not see the Acrobat team doing anything to change the basic system of interactivity in PDF documents. That code seems set in stone. So, in my opinion, the interactive features that are currently there are all we're going to get. (This is my opinion. I know nothing official.)
I have put in a feature request for some way to use ID's animations in DPS apps. But that's not the ID team. It's the DPS developers. The irony is, however, that non-Adobe plugins for ID do have animation exports for DPS.
OK, I'll step down from the soapbox.

  • Interactive Presentation indesign CS5 Question

    Hi
I'm trying to create an interactive presentation/ portfolio in Indesign CS5.
For each page I would like to have a number of small images at the bottom of the page, which the user could then click and a larger version of the image would appear in a larger image box in the middle of the screen.
Is there a quick and tidy way to do this?
    Any help very welcome!
    Many Thanks!

This is not something I do, but several threads have described the techniques in some detail in past years.

  • Hyperlink vs Button in an InDesign Interactive Folio?

Hi! I am trying to create an interactive document in InDesign via the Folio Builder that can be used on an iPad or Android tablet. I am trying to put in navigation so that you can hop around within the document. I did this via a master page (is this an issue?). But it appears that I can do this using either hyperlinks OR buttons, they seem very similar to me. Why would you use one versus the other? Either way, I can't seem to get them to work when I port to the iPad. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!!
    -M

    That won't work.
Navigation through the folio must be done using the navto:// command.
This has been discussed in the DPS forum. Please post followups there.

  • Is there a plug-in for Indesign Interactive PDF buttons which simulates the same control as Acrobat?

I want to know if there is a third party out there making plug-ins for Indesign CS6 specifically for interactive PDF buttons and forms which allows for better control over text boxes.... ie. date formatting, 1-10 characters per text boxes, etc.

Not that I've heard of. You'll have to tweak those features in Acrobat Pro.

  • Need help with InDesign interactive PDF

Ive created an interactive pdf through InDesign Digital Publishing. When I preview it in the folio builder everything is working the way I set it up. But when I publish and go to adobe's Digital Publishing to view it, only a few pages will show. I tried sharing it with another and they can only view two of the 10 pages. And the 2 pages they see do not work well. I was in CS6 and am upgrading to Cloud hoping that might help? Any ideas of what im doing wrong?

This is my first file I have built in InDesign's Digital Publishing Layout. I built it as an iPad format horizontal and vertical layouts in one file. I added it as an article to one folio (first as pdf and also tried automatic). I created it with buttons, some basic animation (images that fade from one to another). Pretty basic stuff. When I go to view it in the folio builder or folio layers it is fine. When I click on folio producer it sends me to: https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/app.html#x=folioproducer to view the "content" which isn't all there. And that is what is seen on the iPad.  Does that make sense? I new to this and obviously doing something wrong. Thanks for any advice to get this to work.

  • Help! InDesign interactive PDF buttons not working in Safari or on iPad

I made an infographic in Indesign for our university magazine with a QR code to link to an interactive pdf. Nothing too complicated animation wise, simply buttons that you can click on to view different parts of the graphic. However, the buttons are not working at all in Safari and on the iPhone and iPad, the buttons disapear completley. Please help.

    Thanks,
    Gretchen

Whether buttons work correctly in a PDF file depend entirely on what PDF reader you're using. Here are a couple of important facts:
    * While corrected created interactive PDFs will display correctly in the FREE Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat, they probably won't display correctly in Apple's Preview application which is probably what you're viewing in Safari.
    * None of the PDF readers currently available on an iPad (e.g., iBooks, GoodReader, etc.) correctly handle interactivity like buttons on an iPad.

  • InDesign interactive pdf sound button

I have created an InDesign file with sound buttons on each page and exported it as an interactive pdf. A button is pressed to activate a short mp3 that has been placed on the page. The sounds are recycled from another project and well in that swf.
The problem is that the button in the pdf file needs to be pressed twice to play the sound when clicked the first time and only one click to play the sound again. I have used both on Click and on Release. The behavior is the same. What's going on here and how do I correct it?
This is part of an educational materials project and we are very picky about our products.
    Thanks

There is a solution to this problem. I mentioned it to my senior SE significant other and he know the answer right away.
In the button panel, when you add the sound button action to the button, you also add the Focus(pdf) action as well. This solves the double click issue.

  • InDesign interactive pdf hyperlink problem

Hi, I've set up an InDesign document to have Hyperlinks to other pages which is fine and separate pdf's where the problem lies. They're all in one folder, all a certain shortish length, not overly high in memory, numbering around 35 so far, will work fine for a while then want to connect to the internet with the Windows Internet Explorer warning box saying: Cannot find xxxx%5xxxx%20xxx%20... Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.
I'm working from the company server on a PC in InDesign CS6 CC, exporting as an interactive pdf including hyperlinks. Any ideas please?
    Thank you, Emma

Thanks Sumit but the Hyperlink list does not have %20 in, only when you hover over or get warning.

  • How to add music to an InDesign interactive file??

    Hi,
I'm creating an interactive magazine using InDesign CS4, there is a feature to include music but I don't know how to use it. Basically I want people to open the magazine and listen to the music with control to stop the music.
Also, for the flip page feature, is there anyway to incorporate a hard cover instead of a soft cover?
Thanks a lot for your support.

To insert a music file, you use the Place feature to insert an audio file in your document. See the CS4 or CS5 help topic on adding sound files.
Regarding the flip page feature, I don't know what you mean when you say "hard cover" and "soft cover."

  • Interactive questions using IP/TV

I am interested in how users can post questions using IP/TV while the presentation is ongoing. What is the process behind this as I don't really see how it works, any kind of insight would be useful.
    Many thanks Alex

When you set up the program, you can (or not) enable interactive "from the field" questions.
The client provide a button that can be pressed to flag the presenter that a field question is pending.
The presenter can then address the questions as possible.
Depending on the scope and location of the audience, you may also consider bringing up a conference bridge for voice-based questions.
    Good Luck

  • JSF Backing bean / JSP interaction questions

A few questions about JSF beans and JSP page interactions. Bear in mind that I'm new to both JSP and JSF, so a solution that might be obvious to the rest of the world may be new to me.
    1. Can I pass a parameter to the backing bean method from an "action" attribute:
    <h:commandLink action="#{TableData.SortRec}">
    <h:outputText value="#{msgs.selectedHeader}"/>
    </h:commandLink>
I'd like to call the same method from several controls, but pass it a parameter to determine which field to sort on.
    2) Is there a way for a backing bean method to determine which control invoked it?
    3) Is there a way to access JSF backing bean methods from JSP tags. I'd like to do some conditional page assembly based on a JSF bean property... JSF doesn't appear to have a conditional like JSP's <c:if>, but I could use JSP's if it could access the JSF bean.

Could you pl tell me how to pass parameter thru CommandButton
    I have the following situation
    1) greetingList.faces which list the Ids & greeting Text
    Id Text
    1 Hello World
    2 Hello World
    2) Pl note Ids are h:commandLink. A click on the Id will render greetingForm.faces with data pertaining to that Id and with Update h:CommandButton
    3) When i click Update button it results in the following error
javax.faces.FacesException: Error calling action method of component with id greetingForm:_id4
    Caused by: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: Exception while invoking expression #{greetingForm.update}
    Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
So i verified with h:message that Id is passed as Null when click on Update button. I also checked greetingForm.faces has a not null value by printing <h:outputText value="#{greetingForm.message.id}"/>
So i guess the Id value is overwriteen with null. Also i have defined Id as property in managed bean
    <managed-bean-name>greetingForm</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>com.mycompany.GreetingForm</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>id</property-name>
    <value>#{param.id}</value>
    </managed-property>
Any pointers/suggestions at the earliest on how to pass the value of Id on a click of update button from greetingForm.faces to greetingForm.java will be highly appreciated
I am willing to upload my war file

  • Indesign Interactive pdf

I have a 14 page document with double pages spreads and single front and back cover.
I would like the brochure to start on the single page front cover and have interactive page curl to the first open spread, I would like to page curl to continue throughout the document until finally finishing on the single back cover.
I have applied the document page curl creating it as swf then pdf, however the front and back page appears as spread with a extra white page.
    I am using CS5.5
Im new to interactive pdf so any advice on this would be great!
    Many Thanks!

I followed a tutorial that told me to export my doc as a SWF then place the SWF back into indesign onto a spread and export the spread I placed it on as a interactive pdf. Sorry not explaining it very well.

  • InDesign: Interactive PDF, can I make a scrollbar?

Hello. I'm making a scrolling web page design on InDesign. This is just for the appearance and layout, it is not becoming a actual website. Is it possible to make a interactive pdf have a part that always stays on top when scrolling? like this website (or many websites) : http://aboutmarco.com/ or/ and is it possible to make a drop down file for the menu like this? Opperman Weiss
    Thanks!

At this point, this issue is the only problem that stands in the way of delivering an otherwise finished project. Is there a way to bring all my InDesign work into LiveCycle?
I've heard a little bit of discussion on this matter, mostly from the mouths of software developers and XML-jockeys who say something like "I bet we could parse the IDML and generate XFA".
    So basically, no.
