InDesign links reset

I had a strange experience on two InDesign CC documents yesterday, on deadline day.
I am not quite sure when it happened, but noticed after the documents had been exported that a few links had been reset, or dropped entirely from the document. The links, images (mixture of pdf & jpegs) were in the document and not showing up as missing link errors, but the image frames were empty and I could not locate the content anywhere. Even when I went to re-link the images, it would not relink to how the images had been originally set up, so they had to be re-adjusted to the image frames in the document  Veru frustrating as I'm sure you all can appreciate. This is the first time I have noticed such an event happen. Anyone else come across this, or is this a known glitch?

Slappy,
Could those images have been imported along with text from a Word file?
When Word contains images, they come in along with the text but don't show up in the Links panel.
Buko,
You're right that it sounds like the image is embedded in the document. But strictly speaking an embedded image is created when a linked image is converted to an embedded one. This keeps the original file name in the Links panel.
What Slappy is describing (I think) is what I might call a stowaway image. It's in the document, but it doesn't belong.

  • Is it possible for Applescript to know what link is selected in the Indesign Links Palette?

    Hi there,
I've written some ApplesScripts for Indesign that act on all links, missing links and/or selected links, but what if I wanted to perform an action on a link that is only selected in the links palette?
Is it possible for AppleScript to know which link is selected in the Indesign links palette?

  • Create Custom InDesign Links inside CSAW like in ExtendedLink

    Hi
I am wondering if it is possible to create custom InDesign links like in the InDesign SDK's ExtendedLink plugin inside a Flash Extension using CS InDesign SDK (csaw_indesign.swc) ?
Looking at the CSAW documentation I can only obtain Link information but not create a link let alone to create a custom one because of the missing LinkResource.

    Hi --
I'm using iTunes 11.0.4 on OSX 10.8.4 and am having a hard time following your instructions to create a ringtone from a snippet of a .mp3 file using iTunes:
    1) Select a favourite song in iTunes program to be made into Ringtone... CHECK!
    2) "Get Info" on that song name and make any 0:30 seconds portion of that song.... CHECK !
    3) Right-click or Ctrl-Click again on same song name and select "Create AAC Version" to create an .m4a file... PROBLEM!
It's when I hit Step 3 that I have a problem -- my "right click menu" at that point looks like this:
There's no option to "create AAC version." Nor does this option appear anywhere in iTunes that I can find.
It really shouldn't be this confusing to create a freaking ringtone. HELP PLEASE!

  • How do images embeded in InDesign link when using Creative Cloud on more than two desktops?

How do images embeded in InDesign link when using Creative Cloud on more than two desktops?

If I am understanding your question correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about embedded images in InDesign. Once embedded, the image is stored within the file.
If you are wondering about linked images... InDesign will follow the path on your computer and, if it does not find the image, you will recieve a notification. Edit: To prevent this, I would suggest packaging your file using File > Package... This will create a folder with all of your fonts and linked graphics so that you need not worry about broken links.  I just remembered that you cannot upload folders directly to Creative Cloud so a packaged folder wouldn't be very helpful unless you wanted to upload each file manually.
The best solution I see right now is to either embed the graphics in the document, or upload the images with your document to relink.
    I hope this helped,
    Michael

  • InDesign Link to specific page in a .pdf file

I have an article index that I keep in InDesign.  Each item in the index points to a specific page in a separate .pdf file.  Is there a way, in InDesign, to create a link that will open the .pdf file to a specific page?  The InDesign file contains buttons and is exported to an interactive .pdf file.  For example, I may have an article from volume one, page two.  In the interactive index, I would like the user to be able to click on this link and open newsletter volume one and jump to page two.  I have never found a way to do this in InDesign and currently have to create the text portion of the index in InDesign, export it to an interactive .pdf file and then create all of the links directly in Acrobat Professional.  This is very time consuming because whenever I need to update the index, I need to re-export to a new interactive .pdf file and recreate ALL of the links in Acrobat.  There should be a way to do this in InDesign.

There SHOULD be a way, yes. But there is none. It's not about Indesign, it's the PDF and handling of action like "Open file".
I tried button actions like "Open file" in Indesign, but you only select the file name and path, nothing else.
If you do the same in Acrobat, by putting an action "Open file" for a hyperlink, it will be the same.
The only thing that works is to use an URL like http://www.yourdomain.com/yourfile.pdf#page=3, where #page=3 can do what you want. You could even place that URL in Indesign or Acrobat, but the PDF would a) open in a browser and b) the PDF reader will always pop up that requester before opening internet links and c) the file would have to be on the internet.
Perhaps Acrobat Javascript could do more here, but then you'd have to embed it somehow in Acrobat (I wouldn't know if Indesign can do that) and Javascript would have to be allowed for that PDF. Not a good choice.

  • How to create multiple price lists in indesign linking via ODBC/ SQL

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me as I am really not sure where to begin! We stock over 3000 product lines and have 2000+ customers who all have bespoke prices, all of this information is stored on our system. I am trying to find out if it is possible to create a price list that links to this information so that we can create bespoke price lists for each customer. We currently use excel but would like a more professional look to our price lists and to include product images etc. Whilst the price list product content will be the same for all customers we will need to periodically need to add new products to this price list. I anyone able to point us in the right direction for a solution to this?
    Many thanks
    Jen

    Hi Peter,
Yes I think that this is the way we will be probably go but not sure what the correct terms are for what I am looking for. Not sure if you are allowed to post examples of specific commercial plug ins here but if not, what should I search for. I know if sounds daft but it's a real case of not knowing what it is I am looking for. I am a complete InDesign newcomer who uses it at the moment for simple flyers etc so more than happy to find someone who can do the more complex stuff for me. The price lists will need to be done inhouse and on a regular basis.
    thanks

  • Interactive buttons not working on interactive pdf when the Indesign links are set correctly

    Hi all,
I have one Indesign CS6 manual containing 17 files, 126 pages. This has been set to a book file.
This has been translated into 14 languages and now we are having problems creating the interactive pdfs.
After fixing the broken interactive buttons within the Indd files, we are finding that when we create the interactive pdfs, not all interactive button links work. When we recreate the same langauge interactive pdf we are finding that the buttons that were not working the 1st time, are now working, and some buttons that were working, are now not working.
    Is there a bug somewhere.
Any idea why the interactive buttons work one minute and then not the next, and vice versa.
Any idea how we can fix.
I’m using Indesign CS6 and Acrobat 9 Pro.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi LoriAUC,
Thanks for this. Very much appreciated.
I have asked sagar-khanna from the other discussion is he knows more about the broken links etc.
    Thanks again.

  • Indesign links exported to PDF

    Hey,
I am using the latest version of indesign as on 2014. I am confused about how linked images work with exporting a PDF. When I export a pdf without all the links being embedded, do those links still show up in the PDF for someone opening it on another computer? Or do all links need to be embedded to appear in an exported PDF? Thanks so much, any opinions are appreciated.

Links have not to be embedded when you export the file to PDF. If the links are OK in the InDesign file (not missing or modified), the exported PDF will be absolutely fine and viewable on any computer.

  • InDesign Links / Path Name change on Mac

We have 5 Mac users on a windows domain using Adobe CC.  They are placing images in to files as links. They are continually getting the "This document contains a link to a source..." error.  The one commong thing I can find is that when looking at the path name in the links pane that it changes from user to user.
User one inserts link from a network drive that is properly mapped. Path shows (example) /Shared/Communications/Logos/Image1.jpg
User two or three opens the same indesign file and gets the link source error.  Path shows /Volumes/Shared-1/Communications/Logos/Image1.jpg
This was not happening in prior versions of InDesign. While I can't rule out a network or user issue, it's odd that the path name changes.  I checked the /Volumes/ folder and no duplicate names of the drives exist.  I have no idea why the path name is being modified when another user opens the file.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You should package you InDesign document. Use the packeged document. New files linked later after packagen copy to the Link folder, you can do it from the link panel with the command Copy links to, in German it is in a sub menu of Hilgfsprogramme, should be something like Help Programs, I don't know the exactly naming of that menu in the US version.

  • Indesign Link Issues after Suitcase Fusion 3 update

    Hi Guys,
    First time poster here...
I installed the latest Suitcase Fusion 3 update this morning and ever since my indesign CS5.5 links panel has been acting strangly!
I'm opening .indd files and the links to placed files are missing, no biggy there, I just re-link them and everything is good... until I hit save, as soon as I hit save the links show the error icon again in the links panel.
    Anybody got any ideas???
    Thanks very much

I'm pretty sure that the NIC and driver is not the problem.
Back in 2008, I had witnessed first-hand on how a brand new Intel GigabitEthernet NIC card reacts to legacy 3500XL switches.  No matter what IOS you've loaded on the switch the links will go down/up between 25 to 45 times per minute.  This will cause users very, very slow response.  The easiest way to fix this issue is to force the NIC card to negotiate to 100/Full.
I am not saying to you have Intel NIC card but so far all suspects are on the table.  Your wired NIC card has not been ruled out.
another Apple Airport Extreme which connected to this switch also experiencing this problem.
Hmmmm ... I'm reviewing the TDR result.  What kind of cable is this?  Is this a 1 metre cable?  Can you please change this?

  • InDesign linked picture problem!

    Hi,
I have a file in links palette that I cannot find anywhere (else) in the document. I have deleted all master pages, all layers, all styles etc. The link shows in the links palette and I can edit original or change the file that is linked, but still there is nothing on the page and I cannot remove the item from the layout... InDesign CS2, mac.
    Anyone?

    * Is it possible that the graphic is used as a small inline anchored frame to appear as a bullet or other glyph?\
    * Is it possible that the graphic is within an existing frame, but in the cropped area that's outside the visible area, and another graphic is what appears in the visible area?
    * Is it possible that the graphic is covered by another graphic?
You might be able to test these last two possibilities by using the white arrow Direct Select tool to select all of a frame's content and delete it, to see if any graphic in the Links palette disappears, or if a page reference for a multi-referenced graphic disappears.

  • InDesign links stripped out when relinking to new InCopy file

I am working on a large manual in InDesign CS4.  Previously, there was an .incd file linked within the links panel.  When I open the .indd file, the box comes up to update the links.  We now have a new .icml file from InCopy that I relink to.  What is happening is all the links in the link panel as well as within the document are getting stripped out when I link to the new InCopy file.  The only file left is the .icml in the links panel.
Has anyone had this happen to them?  If so, I would love to know how you fixed it.  Or if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks.

    Hi,Thanks for writing.
I am relinking from an older story to a new one. When the editor upgraded to InCopy CS4 and told me he had completed his updates, within the folder were both the old .incd files as well as the new .icml.  I removed the old .incd then opened the InDesign file.  When I go to relink by right clicking on the old InCopy file, the new .icml file replaces everything within the links panel within InDesign as well as stripping all linked graphics from the pages.

  • Link Reset Password Expire

    My Case ID : 632264142
Can i get new link to reset password
cause i can't use my iPhone5 activation Lock!!

You are not speaking to Apple.  Call back in, reference your case number, and you'll need to speak to Account Security, who can reverify your identity, and then resend the password reset link.  It may show up immediately, or after 24-72 hours, depending on how you verify your identity, or if you have any unverified email addresses on your account.  Once the link is sent, you have only three (3) hours to use it.
