InDesign + Mavericks = Warp 0.01

I just got done working on some visual designs for a client. 3-concepts, 2 pages each, 6-page document.
InDesign is mindbendingly slow and I have no clue why. I'm on an 8-core Xeon mac pro with 16GB of RAM and cubic parsecs of hard drive space and I have not seen performance this slow since my first mac, a IIsi with 16mb of ram running quark express!
I kid not...so slow as to actually be an impediment. I can't believe a program like this could squander resources so badly.
multi-minute screen redraws, showing blank pages, so laggy I can't tell if my commands being obeyed or not.
I guess this is half rant half question...the question is: anyone else getting this on comparable hardware?
CS6

Hi Bruce,
the icon briefly appears on the dock bouncing about for about 2 seconds (as most apps do when launched)  then it disappears off the dock
I hope Apple tech support can help. In the meantime, here is how to keep an icon (actually an Alias for Numbers 3) on the Dock. Drag it from your Applications folder to the Dock, then right click (or control click):
Choose Keep in Dock.
files created in newer versions of numbers are not compatiable with the older versions so sadly the older version doesn't seem to be a viable option for me...
A file "accidentally" opened in Numbers 3 can be Exported "backwards" to Numbers '09
Therefore, do not delete Numbers '09!
Numbers 3.0.1 now has a warning when you "accidentally" open and edit a Numbers 2 (Numbers '09) document:
I find that both versions of Numbers work happily side-by-side on my Mac. I just need to be careful when saving.
if i have any luck i'll post here as well...
Please do! Good luck, and regards,
Ian.

  • InDesign Mavericks Issue 10.9.2

    Hello,
I have a customer that is having a issue printing to 100% of scale after upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.2. The applications this is happening out of is InDesign,Acrobat Reader, and Acrobat Pro as well. They all want to scale to fit the page (rather than 100% scale or at a reduced scale). They are printing on a new Ricoh MPC3503 that is compatible with 10.9.2 Mavericks. Any suggestions or fixes?
    Thanks,
    Bill

This setting is part of the print dialog and must be supported of the used print driver.
Scale to fit page will reduce scale if the PDF will not fit between the printer borders.
You can set the default behaviors in the PDF's document properties, where you can find some settings for printing, if the document is opened in Acrobat or Reader and if the printer driver support this property. If the PDF is opened in another viewer these settings are ignored.

I fear that you are trying to download OLDER Software on a newer Operating Sysytem Meaning that you need to Install the Latest Version of Adobe on the Newer Operating System for it to work Properly. Be sure to always check the minimum System Requirements.

  • Installing InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks

Installation of InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks
    This question is Not Answered.
    s c perks Oct 14, 2014 6:04 AM
    1. I have InDesign CS3, which I bought about 6 years ago, and installed on my MacBook Pro. I have now got a new Mac Pro running OS 10.9.5 Mavericks. When I bought the machine I asked Apple if I would be able to install my InDesign and they said there would be no problem. But it will not install. The intsllation fails every time near the end. It installs Bridge and one other components, both of which it calls shared components. But InDesign is not installed.
I went to the Adobe web site and looked up what to do. I got to a page that had my product on and it seemed to be telling make I must download an installer. When I clicked on this link, however I got a page with the following message:
    HTTP ERROR: 404 /support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
    RequestURI=/support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
I do not know what to do now.
    2. If I do download an installer (I did not need to do this when I first installed the programme on my lap top MacBook Pro 6 years ago, but just installed it from the disc), how do I get rid of the downloader afterwards, since I read somewhere, but cannot remember where, that I should get rid of the installer afterwards but that I should not put it in the trash bin?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
    Stephen Perks

Many thanks for your help. I will try this. After posting this question yesterday I contacted Adobe and was astonished to find that they do not sell InDesign and do not support it and that one can only upgrade to monthly or yearly rental of CreativeCloud. I'm afraid for me this is nonsense, and I consider it very bad practice on Adobe's part. I will have to go to QuarkExpress instead if I cannot install Indesign CS3, which I nearly did do 6 years ago, but after reading such good reviews of InDesign and got it. I wish now I'd got Quark! I appreciate your help.

  • Is there any way to print directly from InDesign CS3 to Mavericks 10.9.4?

Are there any fixes or workarounds that allow me to print directly from InDesign CS3 to Mavericks 10.9.4. Everything I try now causes InDesign to freeze if I attempt to print. The only way is to export the file as a PDF. Thank you.

You shouldn’t be having a problem like that. I’m going to move this to the InDesign forum but it would help if you posted more details on the issues you’re having.
Another thing to try is exporting to INX from CS3 and opening the INX in CS5.5

  • UI font wrong in InDesign CS6 after Mavericks upgrade

This is a tiny but niggling issue with InDesign CS6 post upgrading to Mavericks.
After upgrading from 10.8, palettes and drop downs that used to have their text in regular weight Lucida Grande now have them in something slightly less legible (maybe Geneva?). The bold Lucida Grande (e.g. when you have a swatch or paragraph style selected) is as it always was, but somehow the regular weight is gone.
The main dialogue boxes and windows also all work fine, it's just the palettes and drop downs etc.
Illustrator CS6, Photoshop CS6 and Bridge CS6 also seem as they were under 10.8. InDesign CS4 and CS5 also unchanged under Mavericks compared to 10.8 – so only InDesign CS6 has the problem as far as I can see.
Have tried it on two Macs and had the same experience.
I did read that Apple had introduced a new version of Lucida Grande with four weights instead of two, so I wondered if that had something to do with it, but Font Explorer on both Macs I've tried only show two weights of Lucida Grande. I did try reinstalling Mavericks in case I'd accidentally deleted something, but that made no difference.
    Anyone else noticed this?
    Thanks!

Yep, here's one of the swatches palette in CS6 and the print dialogue in CS6; plus the same two in CS5 on same machine.
On the CS6 swatches, the unselected colours aren't in Lucida (the 1's don't have the bar at the bottom) but the selected swatch is. In CS5, all in Lucida.
On the print dialogue, it's just the white panel on left of box which has always been Lucida before, as it is still on CS5 grab, but changing to something else in CS6.
    Blink and you miss it!

  • Adobe Indesign & Illustrator CS6 will not open files off server after Mac Maverick update.

I updated to Mac OS X Maverick and all the sudden my InDesign and Illustrator will not open files off of my works network.  I read somewhere about installing the new Java update may help fix it, but I tried it and it did not. I have restarted my computer and reset the connection to the server multiple times, but it does nothing.
The exact message I get is:  "Cannot open the files "xxxx.indd" Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application"  I know for a fact that it is not open in another application so it is not that. I have tried multiple files on the server as well.
For Illustrator, I try to open a file from the server and it just freezes and does not respond so I have to force quit.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

If you had asked before you did this I would have told you not to move to Mavericks unless you were prepared for problems. I’m not a proponent of upgrade installations for operating systems and there’s no way to eliminate that as the cause.
That said, before you start erasing the whole machine, try uninstalling CS6 and then reinstalling it. You might want to run the cleaner tool after the uninstallation.

  • Recently installed Maverick, now InDesign 5.5 won't open. I have installed Java 6 as some have recommended, deleted preferences, rebooted computer (AirBook), still not working.

I see others have had the same issues, but the only solution suggested, to install Java Runtime 6 hads not solved it for me. InDesign still crashes at startup.

Java is now at 7, update 45, try that by going to Apple Menu --> System Preferences --> Java, a separate window opens, click the  Update-tab.
InDesign works perfect in my setup with mavericks on an early 2009 MBP.

  • InDesign CS6 Frequent Crashing on OS X Mavericks

    Hi,
I recently installed OSX Mavericks only to find that InDesign CS6 frequently fails to launch, and also quits randomly once it does manage to launch.
    Symptoms:
    crash on launching InDesign CS6
InDesign crashes after a short but inconsitent period of time
crashes when Exporting to PDF, before the options dialogue appears
Getting a bit baffled, just wondering if anyone has some ideas. I also have CC installed and InDesign CC seems to function fine. CS6 was fine before installed OS X Mavericks.
So far I've tried the following:
    checked and applied recent updates
checked the permissions of ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version8.0/ are set to read/write and applied to all enclosed files and folders
resetting my system caches (i.e. Safe Boot)
    cleared my font caches
    reinstalled CS6
I've attached a report below, hopefully something might standout to someone.
    http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=EkMH3AC1

Happy to report this seems to have resolved the problem. Thanks Bob.

  • InDesign CS6 won't package fonts or package anything after installing OSx mavericks - Client is waiting

Pre-Mavericks I had zero problems packaging my INDD files in Adobe InDesign CS6 with all fonts and links intact. Now, when I go to package the same files I successfully packaged last year under Lion, InDesign tells me the fonts can't be packaged (and doesn't package anything else either). My client is becoming very frustrated so I would really appreciate some help from Adobe in solving this problem as soon as possible.

    Thank you Willi for responding.
Which fonts are affected? - I'm assuming all of the fonts are affected since no fonts are able to be packaged.
Are all used fonts installed? - Yes
Did you have your fonts in a Document Fonts folder beside your old file and saved your new document on a different place? - Before I upgraded to Mavericks I was able to package everything for this exact same file so I do have fonts in the packaged folder (referring to my 2013 file) so even though the fonts aren't in a Documents folder (they are inside the package "Fonts" folder) so I think the answer to your question is yes.
Does your font folder have the same permession as the folder before? - I believe so because I never changed the permissions for the fonts
Do you use CS6 as part of the Creative Cloud and are you using TypeKit fonts? Or are you using the boxed version? - I am trying to avoid using Creative Cloud since I already have CS6 that I have already paid for. What I am reading on the internet, however, is that Adobe is forcing people to move over to CC when they upgrade to Mavericks due to problems like I am having now. I am not sure if this is true/untrue but I am definitely concerned. I can not afford right now to start paying a monthly fee (especially after I have already paid for CS6). I am using a boxed version of CS6 and I am not using TypeKit fonts.

  • InDesign CS6 file not opening...running OSX Mavericks

Hi there, for some reason I am unable to open InDesign CS6 files.  I've restarted Creative Cloud, my computer, nothing.  I get a prompt saying that some files need to be relinked, which I've had before but then it opens fine.  I can't even open a new document.  This is a new issue since OSX Mavericks update....any thoughts?

I'm a Windows user, but I can tell you that there are thousands of Mac users with CS6, and a god number of them use the new Mavericks without a problem, so it's more likely to be something specific to your system.
I can also tell you that upgrading an OS can be a crapshoot and it's usually better to do a clean install, but I can't promise that wiping your system and rebuilding will solve the problem if it's some sort of conflict with third-party software.
Not error messages, crash, spinning pinwheel of death?

  • InDesign CS4 on Mavericks error

Running Mavericks on a new Macbook Air, and have an issue that's got me beat...
After installing CS4 Design Premium from the original CDs, all programs work fine except InDesign (which worked fine on the old Macbook Pro, on Lion).
No problems at all with the installation, but when trying to open it I get the popular 'Licensing for this product has stopped working' error, with error code '5'.
I followed Adobe's solution options advice, including an uninstall/reinstall, from here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
However, one solution option I couldn't do - and I'm guessing this is the crucial one - was the one using the Licence Repair Tool.
This wouldn't even launch, due to 'PowerPC applications no longer being supported' in the Mac OS, according to the error. I believe this has been the case for a while now in the later Mac OSs, although the tool is still available for download.
I've also updated JRE, also to no avail.
A Live Chat session with Adobe didn't help either, as they said CS4 is no longer supported via this route - but couldn't give me an alternative option for seeking a resolution, other than to look online (which I've spent a couple of days doing!)
So I'm pretty sure I've exhausted all my options...
I might have missed something though, so any thoughts or advice would be gratefullly received, thanks - especially on an alternative way to somehow get the Licence Repair Tool working with my OS; I think this might be the key.

Today i face the same problem as described by dmgifford. After SSD update i installed the CS4 Design Premium with Mavericks. The installation log for Indesign delivers 'Error 2' without any comment or hint.
During installation i had to terminate the AIR module installation process, because the whole installation were stopped.
Surprisingly other programs like PS, Ai and Bridge are running .... thats confusing and its no solution by Adobe to terminate support due to older versions!
Maybe anybody has an idea to solve this problem ? Or Adobe delivers a new free Indesign version ?

  • Mavericks and InDesign library- missing or very well hidden?

    Hi all,
I have just spent a few hours researching where, under Mavericks, are registered the InDesign quieries (Text, Grep, Glyph and Object) ...
Peter Spier, in another post, has confirmed to me the path that had apparently not changed (same for ID CS4):
    Hard Drive / Users / <USER> / Library / Preferences / Adobe InDesign / <Version #> / <Language> / folder ....
But no Library folder!!! No more result with a research from the Finder.
    Why?
Simply ... because Mavericks has hidden it!
This Library is hidden by default for security issue (LOL!).
But it is easily accessed from the "Aller" menu (French version) of the Finder, when you keep the alt key pressed.
    Totally Shameful!

    @Obiwan,
    Shameful???
If you've been using Macs for the past three or four versions of Mac OS X, the Library file has been hidden.
There have been several workarounds widely publicized on every Mac website or a Google search.
This MacWorld article gives some ways to make it visible:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2057221/how-to-view-the-library-folder-in-mavericks.html
