InDesign multimedia issues

Please - HELP!!! I have been spinning my wheels on this... I added a SWF within InDesign and then exported my document as a SWF. Everything works fine in viewing my exported SWF (the overall goal is to create an interactive PDF). When I reimport the SWF and view it within InDesign everything is gravy. However, upon export my newly created PDF the page curls work, the button works but the embedded SWF within the document doesn't show (although it appeared to work in InDesign's multimedia preview within the program)???

"sub-SWF" inside "main-SWF" is not working if you place "main-SWF" back to InDesign and export it as PDF. That´s because InDesign does not embedd SWF while exporting it, instead of that, it creates a resources folder and stores placed SWF there.
When you place sub-SWF back to InDesign, you are actually placing an empty container. You should place SWF+resources folder and that´s not possible with InDesign´s place feature.
If you want to get your PDF work properly, you need to open it into Acrobat Professional and add that missing resources folder there.
You can read about that from here:

  • Multimedia issues with Acrobat 9

    Hello,
I have just upgraded to Acrobat 9 on a intel Macpro running leopard and need to create an interactive document with movies links, pop ups etc. The issues I am having is when I place a multimedia box with a weblink to the movie which does plays fine, but when I go to then edit its appearance or change settings it won’t allow me to change anything and strangely when you press the multimedia icon in the menu to be-able to edit the box which holds the movie it then shows properties as a button but I can’t edit anything as they are all greyed out, so I have to delete it each time and create a new movie container which is obviously a waste of time… under Acrobat 8 this worked fine…what am I missing is there a preference I need to change to allow me to edit.
Also when you place a button link and then go to edit it again it automatically draws another button rather than allowing you to select the existing button on the page, so you have to delete the new one before you edit the others on the page, can I turn this off so when I press the button or hyperlink icon in the toolbar then the links show without having to draw a new one first…again under Acrobat 8 this wasn’t a problem.
Hope someone can help and many thanks in advance.

    Hello Brennao.
It is a custom application that runs over Adobe Acrobat. It does not happen to everyone. Have not be able to see any particular pattern partly because the users don't report it much anymore. They close the appilcation which closes adobe.exe and reopen it. That solves the probelm for them when it happens. They only have one Acrobat window open. We have about 10 users per Citrix server.

  • InDesign CS6 Issues!

Ever since we got CS6 here at work, we've had nothing but issues. This is not an upgrade, it is a clean install on a brand new iMac 10.8.5.
Today starts a new set of issues. Indesign crashes about 2 or 3 times just for the fun of it, then this afternoon when I was trying to export a PDF, I noticed that there was text missing on my screen. The text boxes were there but no text was visible. I tried to click inside the text box and select it - nothing! I thought that maybe it's just a view thing so I exported the PDF anyway and the text was missing in it also - Gone! I went back into the ID document, selected the text box, opened it up, closed it up - nothing. Then all of the sudded when I zoomed in or out just one click (happened both directions), like magic the text appeared. Now, I can see the text, but I can't select or edit the text. One of my text boxes I had to just redo. This is a major pain seeing how I have just spent the last 9 hours working on a 36 x 11 gatefold product brochure and now I can't edit but just some of the text. I have checked and no layers are locked and there is nothing on any master pages...... I don't want to have to go back and retype all this data... It's not all of the text, just random text boxes. One of the boxes, the text is just gone.... There is nothing there.
I have deleted the Version 8.0 folders from my cahses folder and from my prefrences folder but to no avail.
Has anyone else been experiencing these kinds of issues???

The only font manager I have is Font Book and I run updates about every 2 or 3 days so all my software is up to date. Also, it isn't like it's been an on going issue, this just started on this one job. I never had these kinds of problems until now. I have a G5 sitting here that has CS4 on it and it never gave a minutes problems.
Any other ideas???? What is scary is to think that this may be have been a 1.5 million dollar job and to think that ID6 is having these kinds of issues.....

  • Indesign CS4 - Issues with .PDF and .ps

I have just done a clean install of my system (MacBook pro) with Snow Leopard and have now installed Adobe Creative Suite 4. I am trying to output a PDF and a .ps file for a document I have created that contains spreads.
    InDesign print PDF
There are three ways to print a PDF, as attached Print PDF 1,2,3:
Image Print PDF_1: The 'Save as PDF' produces a pdf that can't be opened and gives an error message that it's not a supported file type.
Image Print PDF_2: The 'File > Export' option works and the spreads appear to be fine
Image Print PDF_3: When I try and print to a PDF using the 'Printer: Adobe PDF 8.0'  printer the print dialog box allows me to choose the option however when the job spools it just disappears - it doesnt ask me where to save the PDF and the PDF never comes to fruition. I have read on forums this is a known issue with Snow Leopard.
What is the best way to create a PDF in CS4?
    InDesign print .PS file
When I go to print a postscript file I get no page preview or access to setup options to change paper size etc. Even if I select  'spreads', after I have run it through distiller it seems to have ignored the spreads, or else has not adjusted the page setup appropriately, and just an A4 page comes out.
    (See image Print Postscript_1, 1A).
Is there another way to create a .ps file?
    Any help would be appreciated!

With Snow Leopard, the Printing of PDFs has changed. Try using the highlighted option

  • CS4 Indesign Printing issues

Hi, We have a new Mac Pro Tower we just purchased with Snow Leopard 10.6.7. We are using Adobe Indesign CS4 Version 6.0.6. I have an Indesign project that I need to print to our Canon ImagePress C1 with a fiery. I go to File>Print, then it shows it's kind of preparing it to be sent to our printer. After about 30 seconds the printer window pops up and it says: spooling for about another 30 seconds and then the printer puts this job on pause. Below is the console logs from this users machine: Where you see "username" I removed the person's name for security.

This canon printer has worked seamlessly when we had Leopard 10.5 using CS4. It's only been since we received the new Mac Pro Tower. The Canon printer has a Fiery attached and we use the latest driver for that Fiery. All the images in this file are .tiff's. The user does have Pre-Flight on and the Print Preset: Custom, Printer: Canon Color Printer, PPD: Canon iPR Server T1 Ver.1.0. I set up the printer in the Print & Fax Dialog using the IP address, with LPD Protocol, Queue name blank (as we never had to really use one in the past). and Print Using the iPR Server T1 driver. Rebooted the Mac, ran disk utility from the CD. I have been working on this issue for a couple of days now and found many troubleshooting tips on the internet but none have worked. Is there something in the new OS X Snow Leopard that is not working with CS4 Indesign now? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!

What fonts are you using? Are they PS Type1 by any chance? The update to 10.6.7 has introduced some problems with the older Type 1 fonts. Do a Google search for Mac 10.6.7, Type 1 font problem to see some discussions.

  • InDesign Cs4 issues

    Hello,
I have been using cs4 design premium suite on windows 7, 64 bit version, for 8 months or so now, and have been having issues for a couple of months mostly in InDesign. It started simple, the auto-align grids weren't working anymore, no matter how many times I rebooted or adjusted my settings. Next the top tool bars started acting up. Whenever I roll over them the drop down opens, even though I never clicked on them. Next I got a message that sing was keeping my indesign from opening. I found an online fix that let me open the program, but once I did that my pathfinder tools stopped working correctly. The latest problem is that my Illustrator no longer gives me the handles without using the free transform tool.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times, and every time it finished installing but that there are errors. I have done everything I can think of. During uninstall I have shut down all antivirus software, am I not doing something else that I need to do?
    Thanks

You may need to run a cleanup tool and reinstall again.
I'd start with the CS5 tool and see if it will also clean CS4 -- the page is a little confusing on this point. Also, the page continues to say the tool requires msicuu2.exe which is no longer available from Microsoft, though this may be an oversight as Adobe has been aware of the unavailability and working on a revision for a month or so, and the page revision date is Augst 30. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/829/cpsid_82947.html
If you decide to try the tool and run into a problem where you need the ms tool as well, please post back.

  • InDesign Mavericks Issue 10.9.2

    Hello,
I have a customer that is having a issue printing to 100% of scale after upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.2. The applications this is happening out of is InDesign,Acrobat Reader, and Acrobat Pro as well. They all want to scale to fit the page (rather than 100% scale or at a reduced scale). They are printing on a new Ricoh MPC3503 that is compatible with 10.9.2 Mavericks. Any suggestions or fixes?
    Thanks,
    Bill

This setting is part of the print dialog and must be supported of the used print driver.
Scale to fit page will reduce scale if the PDF will not fit between the printer borders.
You can set the default behaviors in the PDF's document properties, where you can find some settings for printing, if the document is opened in Acrobat or Reader and if the printer driver support this property. If the PDF is opened in another viewer these settings are ignored.

  • Indesign Preview Issues

Has anyone had a similar problem to the one we are encountering.
We use a pdf workflow and we export to press pdf directly from the book feature in InDesign CS6. The export seems to go through with no issues, however after the export is complete, InDesign then attempts to generate a preview which can then take up to 30 - 40 minutes to process.
I'm aware of the preview preferences within InDesign, however when we were on CS5 this didn't happen. I am trying to find out whether this is peculiar to the CS6 version & if so is there a workaround without turning off the preview preference?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Is this box checked?
    If so, try unchecking it.

  • Packaging Indesign Folio Issue

    Hi,
I have been working on my articles from my desktop and have now 'Packaged' the articles to a server. However, now when I try to update any of the articles I get:
An error has occurred while updating article layouts.
The InDesign file for the layout cannot be found.
All the links in the Indesgn files are linked, so i can't see why DPS is not liking these files. I have looked at past threads about this and people are saying to update software - I can't do this due to the issue with Adobe Viewer in the new update.
Everything worked fine before I packaged the files, and they were updating as they should. What do i do to fix this?
    Thanks.

If you can't update to a version which has the "relink" function, you may try to remove and add your articles one by one. Or, if you have proper folder structure and naming conventions – recreate the folio by deleting the old one, creating the new one and importing multiple articles at once. If you try first with adding a single  article and it doesn't work, there is also possible that the new path to your files is not understood by DPS (special letters, etc.).

  • InCopy/Indesign workflow issues

I have an InCopy/Indesign collab workflow question.
Myself (designer) and a colleague (writer) are trialling using InCopy 6 with InDesign CS5.5. There seems to be issues with the InDesign document refreshing once the writer has made changes using InCopy, and vice versa. We are working on the same server. .icml files don't seem to give alerts in InDesign that they need to be updated.
Can anyone see any reasons why this may be happening?

Thanks, yes I suspected the different versions could have been a problem.
What do you mean you don't get alerts?
When the InDesign document has been edited and saved using InCopy, the text box links (.icml files) that were edited should automatically appear as out-of-date in the links panel when it is next opened in InDesign, just as other links are displayed when they have been edited. But this doesn't happen, and I then have to manually update them to make sure they are the latest version of the link.
Any thoughts? Could this all just boil down to using the same version of software?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Indesign Link Issues after Suitcase Fusion 3 update

    Hi Guys,
    First time poster here...
I installed the latest Suitcase Fusion 3 update this morning and ever since my indesign CS5.5 links panel has been acting strangly!
I'm opening .indd files and the links to placed files are missing, no biggy there, I just re-link them and everything is good... until I hit save, as soon as I hit save the links show the error icon again in the links panel.
    Anybody got any ideas???
    Thanks very much

  • InDesign CS2 issue

Hi, would appreciate any help on the following:
I'm running InD CS2 on a Macbook with Snow Leopard OS. The program generally works OK, however, I have the following problem:
Let's say there's a piece of text in a box. If I want to change its size, I highlight it and change the size using the drop down menu in the toolbar. However, when I then hit return or click off the highlighted text, it doesn't resize until I double click on the box again, then it changes. It also sometimes does this when I move a text box around on a layout - the text will vanish after I've placed it somewhere else in a page, then won't reappear until I double click the box.
I've only had this issue since I moved from a PowerPC G5 to the Macbook and I've had a good look through the InD preferences to see if I've got a weird preference set up.
    Any views/advice/thoughts?
    Cheers

CS2 is totally unsupported under anything later than Tiger. The fact that it's Intel adds another layer of problems.
Time to upgrade. This is your last chance anyway. CS2 is the earliest version eligible for upgrade pricing.
Do you have the entire suite or just InDesign?

  • Adobe CS3 Indesign SLOWWWW issues

I realize this isn't an adobe discussion, however, it appears that after performing the last security update...which i'd put off for minute...about a week ago, is the last change to my system.
Adobe Indesign CS3 Now takes about 7 minutes (i've timed it) to open a document. And another 5-7 minutes to save a document. It was working fine, and i've been using since nov. of 07. this just started last week and i can't find any information on the Super Duper slow down issue out there.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded their script fix, updated, reupdated...doesn't seem to matter. new install just like the old one. about 15 minutes of open/save time per file. That adds up in hurry throughout a day of work.
Anybody else have this problem? or know why it's suddenly happening?

    Possibly answering my own question
after nearly pulling all my hair out, i just turned off the suitcase fusion font sense preference and auto activate and indesign seems to be opening and saving documents in a few seconds like it used to.
well, t hat appears to have done it for now. right after posting too.
unfortunately, trying to figure this out has lead me to the can't repair SUID permissions problem. oh well. i'll let that one rest for now and just get some work done.

  • Creative Suite CS3 and InDesign CS4 Issues

    Hi,
I'm hoping this is the right place to post. I installed parts of Creative Suite CS3 on my system (just the basics, PS, ID, Illustrator, etc.).
Later on I just got Photoshop CS4 and Installed that.
Now, months later, I want to instally the rest of CS 3 on my system, yet half way through Disk 1, it ejects the disk and asks me to install the InDesign CS4 disk. I don't have InDesign CS4! I did install the trial version but then uninstalled it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    A,
Uninstall anything CS4 (use Adobe's uninstaller; do not just drag to trash). Install your CS3 components; then install Photoshop CS4 again. It would seem there is either some dependence upon certain components shared by both versions; or maybe it's the way some data is transfered behind the scenes from one version to the other.
Remember to repair permissions and run DiskWarrior to fix any permissions, disk or directory issues that sometimes crop up.
On a slightly different note, on my well-maintained system, I had the Master Collection CS3 on my Mac; then installed the Master Collection CS4. When I recently decided to uninstall most of CS3 (per instructions), I found that for a few CS4 apps, I had to enter my password the first time I launched them. But Photoshop would tell me some scripts were missing, and the solution was to uninstall Photoshop CS4 and reinstall it.
    Go figure!

  • Indesign Printing Issue

    Hello.
I have a HP Lasjet 400 M451dw and have been trying to print to a custom size sheet of paper from Indesign.  I have followed all the steps in the page and printer set up and the paper size section does show the custom size with the paper size being defined by the driver.  When I go to print the paper it goes through and nothing prints on the paper.  I finally printed with the same settings, but I placed an 8.5 x 11 size sheet of paper in the feed tray and it is print my file in the lower left corner of the 8.5 x11.  I have even saved the file to a pdf file and tried printing it in acrobat and the same things happen.  I thought it was a printer issue, but I opened up word and tested the same settings and everything worked just the way it should.  Rarely do I have issues with any Adobe program and I am so baffled that something actually word correctly in word and not on the adobe side.  I am at a loss, is there anything anyone can suggest as to something else I can try or what I am doing wrong?

It doesn't surprise me that ID and an HP printer don't get along well, but Acrobat is usually reliable. In the screen capture below, the page scaling dropdown is circled (old screen shot) and two lines below it is the unchecked box for choosing the tray according to page size:
