Indesign not launching from start menu

I am currently running InDesign CC 2014 and witnessing a frustrating behavior. I am able to launch InDesign from the Creative Cloud Application, but if I double click on and InDesign file, ort try to launch from my start bar, the application doesn't launch.
Any help would be much appreciated.

From the sound of it, the OS doesn't know InDesign is the default application for .indd files and you have an out-of-date link in your start bar. The CC app knows what InDesign is, but the OS doesn't, so the remedy is to either set up the default manually or uninstall and reinstall InDesign. the installation process will add the necessary defaults to the OS.
This happened, possibly, because you uninstalled an earlier version of InDesign after you had installed the new one. This is a frailty of the uninstaller (all of the Adobe apps suffer the same problem) that I hope will be fully addressed soon. At present, the necessary sequence to avoid problems (if you don't want to keep an earlier version of an app) is: a) install new version, b) migrate preferences, etc., c) uninstall old version, d) uninstall, then reinstall new version.

I've had this happen before and just let it work that way but its

I Snapshot the program as always, it installs fine but will not launch
from the Nal icon. It is a simple program and works fine from the

Under Nal its set as

Is there anything else that I should look at that might cause this not
to launch from the NAL icon?

Some questions / suggestions:
- Are there any command line switches used when starting this application?
If so, it may help if you place them within quotes, especially if there
are spaces in between.
- you say it's an old application. Does the shortcut to the application
contain a start directory, and if so, is this long filename or 8.3
filename? If there is a start directory in the shortcut, you should also
use this in you application object
- What exact error message do you get?

Rescue and Recovery 4.2 Does not Launch from Start Programs Thinkvantage

I have a T61 with XP SP3. I recently installed and uninstalled the version of Ubutuno that can be booted from Windows. I played with it for a few days then uninstalled it. Then I unistalled Rescue and Recovery using Add Remove programs...I am thinking of getting a SSD and I wanted to remove large programs before I image the disk.
I changed my mind and tried to reinstall Rescue and Recovery. I got the error saying that my boot space was too small. I used the Lenevo mbr repair feature that I found on this board.
I was then able to install R&R 4.21, and I was able to create recovey disks using the create recovery disks program
However, when I try to launch Rescue and Recovery, (Start, Programs, Thinkvantage, Rescue and Recovery). the disk spins and I get the hour glass on the cursor...and the hour glass goes away after about 7 seconds...the disk continues too blink off and on, but the program will not launch. The rrservice.exe and rrpservice exe services are running. I tried disabling Kapernsky virus, and that did not help. I have rebooted several times.
Any suggestions! I will buy you a beer for sure!!

My other post just gave you the basics. I got tired to typing the same info over and over.
Two issues lately.
(1) I am going from vista to win7, and I have a Factory shipped Lenovo. RNR wont install.
(2) I have win7 on a factory ship, and I want to go from Hdd to SDD. USB recovery wont boot.

I take my backups to a 2nd HDD. Also, every few months, I backup to a DVD set, HDD's may last 3 years, maybe 4. You dont want your loved backup on the C drive, and HDD fails. On top of that, if you back up to the C drive, the HDD grinds away. Read C, write to C\rrbackups. Backup will run faster to 2nd HDD or USB.

You state a pristine Vista. I am guessing it was a Factory shipped Lenovo with Vista.
The TIP in the other post is if you know of this issue BEFORE windows 7 install.
At the time during Win 7 install, and it is deciding where to put itself, there is a Default Recommended and I think a drop down list of other options. This is tricky. Example, (a). park me in the current C partition. (b) park me on the whole HDD.
Did you upgrade the Vista, inplace to win7 or did you clean install win7 to a blank C partition.
Lets see if you have a recovery(vista) partition.
Go to control panel>admin tools>computer management>disk management. Check to see if other partitions show up other than the C drive. Recovery partition should be around 10 GB. Sometimes this partition is labeled IBM_Preload or similar.
Solution/workaround
I dont have 1 that i have tested. Maybe other users can offer suggestions.
(1)You could delete the Q, but this might not clean up the MBR/BCD(boot control) entries.
(2) Backup your loved win7, erase HDD, then restore. MAYBE a win7 backup allows ignoring the Q partition. I am not an expert with using win7 backup, and I dont have a q drive.
*** all this is time consuming**, risky, and may not solve the issue.

Envy Software Will Not Load From Start Menu

I hvae jsut bought an Envy 4500 All in One.
I hae tried to load the software from the disc and download from HP.
When I go to the Start Menu and click on the HP Envy icon it says: HP PRINTER ASSISTANT

I see that you are having issues with the HP Printer Assistant not opening, after installing the printer software. I would like to help you out today.
Temporarily turn off any Antivirus Software to make sure it isn't interfering with the HP Printer Assistant loading.
Try opening it again.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor if the issue persists. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?

Did you have any errors during the install itself?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)

I have checked the screen shot and it seems that you use the Windows XP Start menu and not the Classic Start menu.
Please click right on the green Start button and select Properties.
Then the window Taskbar and Start Menu Properties should appear.
Then switch to the tab Start menu and press the Customize button.
There you could try to clean the list of the programs
Please also check the Advanced tab and the Start menu items list.

Desktop previewer not launching from Indesign on Windows

I need your help guys. I working in Indesign CS5.5 on Windows Vista. I have all the folio builder tools released yesterday. When I try to preview my folio from the folio builder menu, it prepares the preview but the Content viewer never launches. Now I can run the content viewer from the start menu but it won't launch from Indesign. Also when I try file>folio preview, all I get is a blank gray screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the DPS and spent most of yesterday trying to get it running and figure this issue out but I'm having no luck.

There is a newly discovered bug that prevents the "File > Folio Preview" command from working properly. This bug should be fixed before the end of this month. You should be able to preview content by clicking the Preview button at the bottom of either the Folio Builder panel or the Overlay Creator panel. What happens when you click the Preview button in either of these panels?

System Preferences & Software Update won't launch from Apple Menu

I could really use some help with this, I've tried google searches etc and nothing has worked out.
I recently upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 and then changed back to 10.4.11
When it was installed (from a Universal retail not the DVD that came with the mac) I copied all the folders from "Previous System" and replaced the newly made ones.
At some point I was using System Preferences when it vanished with the usual message "Closed unexpectedly, reopen, close etc". Since then neither System Preferences nor Software Update will launch from the apple menu. System Preferences will, however, open from the dock.
When they are clicked on the hard drive makes some noise and then stops and nothing appears.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

XL Reporter will not launch from some client PCs

XL Reporter in 'Tools' menu does nothing when clicked
(no messages or action at all). Same for clicking on an XLR report from the menu.
Have already verified Excel is installed, Excel macro security settings, COM object is installed.
Launches okay from the server and on some other PCs
It is not B1 user-dependent -- logging in as superuser on client produces same symptom, logging in as user on the server launches correctly..
Have removed and reinstalled B1 client. (2007A)
Have reinstalled .NET 1.1 and the 'config' file (Note 918188)
No response, no message, no error.

Log in as domain admisnitrator/ local administrator (depending on your user account setup) on that PC and try to run XL Reporter see if its ok?
If its ok, then try to to login as another "normal" domain user/ local user (other than the user with problem starting XL) and try to run XL Reporter again see if its ok.
If its ok, it means that the user that had problem running XL Reporter has some profile differences or priveledge difference (Which could be difficult to find out which specific). For easy resolution, I advice to create a new profile for this user, and move all his/ her files to the new profile and use SAP on the new profile.
If other user account login is not ok to run XL Reporter now, I believe its installation of XL Reporter was not done properly. Please try to reintall XL Reporter (reinstall Client App) as administrator account, instead of user account.

Mac Pro will not restart from dropdown menu

Hi all,
My Mac Pro will not restart from the dropdown menu or when clicking the 'restart computer' when installing software updates. I have an external firewire hard drive hooked up as part of my backup process. It contains a clone of my startup disk.
I have tried disconnecting the firewire drive, rebooting then attempting to restart from the dropdown menu. Still no joy. I always have to end up shutting down manually by holding the power button in and then restarting with the power button.
Any thoughts?

You might try Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your Shutdown functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
EDIT: Also, if you can launch Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder and see if you can find the process that is still running.

Windows 10 Quick Launch and Start Menu

I upgraded to windows 10 today, and although a bit sluggish, all seems well. However the start menu will not open, and only certain programs will run if I right click it. Also, the quick launch icons just completely refuse to work! Seriously beginning to do my head in now!

Financial Reporting Studio is not visible in Start Menu in EPM 11.1.2.2

i have installed EPM 11.1.2.2.0, i tried to login to Financial reporting studio and found that it was not installed. Then i manually installed Financial Reporting studio (V31859-01\FinancialReportingStudio\FinancialReportingStudio.exe). I did not receive any error, but i am not able to view Financial Reporting Studio listed in start menu. Where is Financial Reporting studio? how do i login?

The client and server have to be exactly the same version, it sometimes worth downloading FR studio from workspace to make sure you have the same version.
Otherwise log into Oracle support and search for "you are not authorized to use this functionality", you will see lots of results which should help you resolve the problem.

But there does not seem to be a resolution to this problem yet.
Is there a workaround to this issue. Is there a new wlserver that supports 1.3
for WLS 5.1. I am running with SP6 because we need to run with WLCS 3.2 also.
WLS 5.1 starts up fine as a service or from the start menu with the JRE 1.2 shipped
with the product or from a command window with startWeblogic running SDK 1.3

Thanks for the suggestion... the registry already has this setting... that does
not seem to be it.
From looking closer at what is installed with the 1.3 JRE versus the 1.2 JRE packaged
with the 5.1 server... it seems to me that the issue has to do with support for
the Hotspot VM.
The 1.3 JRE has a hotspot subdirectory under the bin, there is no classic subdirectory,
as is the case with the 1.2 JRE in the 5.1 package or even with a standard SDK
1.3 installation.
Does 5.1 support the hotspot vm. How can I switch it to use the 'older' JVM instead?
If I copy the 'classic' jvm.dll from the sdk 1.3 installation into the bin\classic
directory of the 1.3 JRE, the server does start, but an error message indicating
that the javai.dll was not found still comes up. Followed by the following error:
Warning: JIT compiler "symcjit" not found. Will use interpreter.
The server startup output then comes up ... Please help, anyone?
