Indesign not opening after migration assistant

I just used migration assistant for my new iMac.  Now indesign does not work.  it quits on opening. Any ideas?

This is expected. You need to reinstall the program properly, not migrate it.

  • Applications Will Not Open after Migration

Purchased new MacBook Pro (10.7.8) last night and used Migration Assistant to transfer applications and documents to new mahine from "old" MacBook Pro running 10.6.8. and things did not go as smoothly as anticipated:
Applications such as Illustrator, InDesign and Word from old MBP will not open on new Machine
Old User Profile came over but the doc displays question marks where Documents and Downloads should be
Old Profile on New MBP does not allow me to change Finder preferneces to display the Hard Drive on the desktop
What have I done wrong and what can I do to correct these issues?
    Any suggestions?

SO - it is possible to move my Creative Suite and other apps over and actually be able to use them or must I do a fresh install?
That depends on the age of those Apps. If they are older, like Word/Office 2004, they will not run on Lion.
There are many version of Adobe Creative Suite. Some run on Lion, newer version back to I think CS3 (but don't quote me on that), and some don't.
Again personally I always do clean fresh installs on new computers. Whether Mac or PC. I have never cared for using anything that copies over old stuff from previous OSs to new computers. I find it makes the new computer like the old computer, IE OLD.
But others use it and find it OK.
The true definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.
So give it a shot. If you find yourself back where you started when you made the first post then you can always start over.

  • Trackpad gestures not working after migration assistant

I just got a new 13" macbook pro for my wife.  I initially created an admin account for myself and everything seemed fine.  Then I ran the migration assistant to import my wife's account from her old macbook (~3 years old, running snow leopard).  Now some trackpad gestures, like the 2 finger scroll, don't work in her account.  Some do, like pinching and unpinching to zoom.
I've tried turning all the gestures off in preferences, then turning them back on again, but to no avail - 2 finger scroll doesn't want to work.
It seems like it must be some old trackpad settings that are overriding the new - her old macbook had the button and did not do gestures.  But I don't know how to get rid of any imported trackpad settings so it will go back to default behavior.

Same thing happen to me. Had to go into iTunes folder and use old iTL file to get iTunes to open again. But after I did that my iPhone now isn't being recognized by iTunes and it wants me to wipe it. I also can't update to iTunes 11...I'm stuck on 10. It says I should update when I manually check for update but the store says there is nothing for me to download. This is so frustrating.

  • Mail not opening after migration to new macbook pro

    Hello all,
I recently transferred all of my files using migration assistant from a powerbook G4 to a Macbook Pro and now mail will not open. It will show up in the bar underneath the screen but it won't display anything and it won't quit. Anyone have any solutions?

Without having to mess with plists, or messing with other arcane buried folders, this solution for me in migrating from a G4 to a Mini.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8843200&#8843200
Simple. Move the ~/Library/Mail folder out and back in. Read the thread for the specific order. It's easy and save me tons of heartache.

I deleted the everything within the V2 folder inside Mail.  But still got the message.  I have also tried extracting a copy of Mail from a working backup and running it from my desktop but no luck either.

I have tried reinstalling. Next I reinstalled xCode. Then I reinstalled iLife from a DVD. I reinstalled the developer tools. Nothing has helped yet.
The problem is that the variable _OBJC_CLASS_$_NSObject is missing from the /usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib file.
I even reinstalled the  /usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib file from a backup when the Mail program worked but no luck.
How do we get a  /usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib file with the  _OBJC_CLASS_$_NSObject variable?

    Hi,
I notice that the version of current Outlook client is 14.0.6112.5000, Outlook 2010 needs to be on at least SP1 and have November 2012 update (14.0.6126.5000) at the minimum installed to be able to connect to Exchange 2013, so make sure your clients is patched.

  • Windows on Parallel, on new MacbookPro not working after migration assistant

After I did migration assistant from my old macbook pro to my new macbook pro and formatted the old laptop, when I opened the Parallel I had on my laptop it told me that Windows in no longer a genuine software although I've been working with it on my previous macbook pro and it is a genuine windows..What can I do?
I tried to retype my licence to reactivate windows but it wouldn't work!!
    PLease help..

Did you, by any chance, make a backup of your old MBP on which there is still a copy of the Windows virtual machine? If so, try copying that over to the new MBP to replace the VM giving you trouble.
Windows periodically checks the hardware configuration it's running on and if too many factors have changed, it puts up the complaint you're seeing. That may have been aggravated by how Migration Assistant transferred the VM file. I use VMware Fusion rather than Parallels and when a VM is moved to a new Mac, Fusion senses that and asks if the VM was moved or copied; if you answer copied, Fusion assigns a new MAC address to avoid network conflicts if both instances of the VM are running at the same time. But the new MAC address also triggers Windows to complain, as yours has. Does Parallels ask that question too, or does it, perhaps, just assume it's been copied? A more complete discussion of what you're running up against can be found here.

  • Why is Acrobat 8 not launching after Migration Assistant Tranfer?

"Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro cannot be launched at this time.  You must launch at least one other suite component [WHICH I HAVE] (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional."

Migration assistant doesn't work with everything. I'd be amazed if it managed to get all the licensing stuff. I'd recommend you reinstall.

  • Mail not responding after migration assistant to new mbp

I just got a new macbook pro, and migrated everything except applications via time machine from my old macbook (both with up-to-date snow leopard).
When i try to open Mail, it pops up saying it will import all my old mail - this completes and i press 'done' - however the main mail window pops up with an empty inbox and automatically i get the rainbow wheel which goes on indefinitely; more than an hour. I've tried several times and this is what happens, can't access anything.
How do i resolve this? is it best to delete all my mail first, open mail and then import from time machine? if so, how do i delete mail manually?

Not sure why this did not work. If you want to do over, then in the Finder remove the Mail folder at Home/Library/Mail, and the com.apple.mail.plist file at Home/Library/Preferences. Then copy those files from the time machine.

  • InDesign CS5 is not opening after deactivation/activation. How can I fix this? Illustrator and Photoshop open and are working fine. Please help!

InDesign CS5 is not opening after deactivation/activation. How can I fix this? Illustrator and Photoshop open and are working fine. Please help!

First of all, thank you for replying so promptly to my posts this morning!
I can't remember how I got the software on his computer, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't through migration assistant.
I was looking into doing an uninstall of InDesign and a fresh install. However, I initially downloaded the CS5 suite digitally and I can't find out how I am able to perform a fresh install of InDesign. Do you know where I find this info or gain access to download just InDesign again? I can't seem to find anything in my Adobe account that shows where I might do another download.

  • HT4796 on my windows XP pro PC i opened windows migration assistant and the first message is: "Cannot start Outlook Express. The application can not initialize the storage. The computer doesn't have enough memory or your disk is full. (0x80007114)"

on my windows XP pro PC i opened windows migration assistant and the first message is: "Cannot start Outlook Express. The application can not initialize the storage. The computer doesn't have enough memory or your disk is full. (0x80007114)"
On my windows PC outlook express is NOT running and as far as i know, NOT installed.
How do I install Outlook Express??
I want to use my new Imac.....

Disk storage issues frequently happen if the hard disc is over 85% full.    Make sure your trash can is emptied after backing up any files you want to keep elsewhere.

  • User password not accepted after migration

Source: iMac Lion OSX.7.4  Destination iMac OSX6.8
Problem: user password is not accepted after migration
What I did: Tried to migrate over the LAN, but in the migration assistant the other Mac was mutually never recognized. (Did migrations several times successfully in our LAN before). Last time the LIon Mac was the destination, who is now the source.
I backupped then the  user with Time machine on the Lion and installed it with the migration assistant on the Snow Leopard system. As as the password was not accepted, I repeated the backup/migration process once. No help
I reset in System Prefs/User accounts the password of that user. But cannot login either
First time, that a migration process fails for me.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks
    Urs

The target computer itself has admin accounts thats not the problem, I can access it. The issue is that the migrated additional user account is not accessible with its password.
I have found here an istruction how to reset a password in single user mode.
    http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/03/how-to-reset-your-mac-os-x-password-withou t-an-installer-disc/
But that does not help either. The answer after the dscl -passwd command is that I do not have access (or similar, I don't remember)
My guess is that backward migration (Lion to Snow) causes the problem. May be I need to create the user freshly and to copy his documents manually

  • Login invalid on new MacBook after Migration Assistant

    Migration Assistant problem
New computer: 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display (probably OS X Lion
Old computer:  15"Macbook Pro running Mountain lion.
My regular login password is invalid on the new computer after migration assistant - Not sure what to do.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I managed to find a solution
    Here is the link:
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/08/10/forgot-mac-password-how-to-reset-mac-password/
There are instructions to reset the mac password without a CD.  You set up a new admin account then you can reset the password to your original account.
    It solved the problem.
