InDesign on MacBook
InDesign CS2 shuts down when I attempt to add a document to an InDesign CS2 book file. Activity Monitor indicates 97% CPU usage by InDesign immediately after attempting to add the file to the book. My MacBook Pro is maxxed out on RAM.
Is there some way I can free up some memory for Rosetta?
This is the Intel-Based iMac forum. You'll probably get a better response if you post your question in the MacBook Pro forum.

Pixelated Adobe Indesign on Macbook pro retina 13inch
Hi I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display and I recently installed Adobe InDesign and I am suffering the pixelated look. The adobe update fixed photoshop but bridge and camera raw opened from bridge remain blurry. HOWEVER if i select open file in photoshop from bridge, camera raw opens up perfectly sharp. theres some major glitch going on and i start studying in 3 days and i need this sorted. any ideas? thanks for your time
The CS6 version of the Design Standard suite or a previous version?
AFAIK, everything in the CS6 Design Standard suite has been updated to work with Retina displays... Photoshop was the first and, with updates, the rest followed.
Clinton
EDIT: As I use the CC versions of all Adobe apps, I could be wrong about earlier versions supporting Retina display...

Free alternative to adobe indesign for macbook air
I have experience in using adobe indesign however I have just brought a MacBook air and my copy of indesign is on my windows machine!
is there a free alternative to indesign that anyone can recommend or someway of me getting it from a windows to a mac?
ThanksNo. I have seen nothing even close to InDesign in the free department. You could install Windows in bootcamp on your Mac and install it there.
Check the bootcamp forums

No success in downloading InDesign on MacBook Pro
I can't seem to get InDesign to actually download to my MacBook Pro as part of my CC subscription. All the other apps are there.
You are downloading through creative cloud desktop app ? What error you are getting ?

InDesign 2014, Macbook Pro, not sufficient permissions
InDesign CC 2014 won't load, Error not sufficient permissions, Other CC programs including InDesign CC load no problem,ie.Photoshop CC 2014
I am using OS Yosemite beta4, program is fully downloaded, Photoshop and Illustrator 2014 work fine. Am admin and only user and have plenty of space. The message says, Error: Unable to launch Ad InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the Preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart InDesign.
By the way, what is the difference between the latest CC version and the 2014 version> They were both updated the same day. -
InDesign on MacBook Air or on 2 GB RAM on laptop?
Having broken my shoulder, I am no longer able to carry half the weight I once could.
So even my tiny MacBook Pro 13 is too much for me.
Anyone have experience running ID as well as PSD, Flash, AI, Acrobat, and some other CS5 programs on a MacBook Air or a laptop with only 2 GBs of RAM?
This wouldn't be for "real work" just 72 ppi demo and classes.
But I don't want to switch to Windows (thanks anyway). The MacBook Air is designed to be used wirelessly, hence the name. It is by definition a second Mac and was never intended to be someone's only computer.
DVD and Ethernet ports on my laptop have been used fewer times than I have fingers. Very few laptops have enough batteries to play a whole DVD without draining 50% of their battery life.
If you do have an optical drive and actually and use your laptop as your primary computer the OptiBay is a better use of that slot. Turns your internal optical drive into an external and puts a hard drive where your useless, slow optical drive used to be.
http://www.mcetech.com/optibay/index.html
As for the 2gb RAM, that won't change until they refresh them. The 16 RAM chips are soldered in and likely the maximum density for the space. The 2 gigabit DRAM chips are thicker than what can be accommodated in the Air due to its thinness. I think the standard when they designed the Air was 50nm and they are down to 30nm, but its hard to tell whether Apple would use them as the 2nd gen Air was a major price decrease from the first offering.

InDesign on Macbook Air?
I am using this combo. The key commands I have for character styles and paragraph styles are not working for me. My expectation is to use the function key along with other keys to simulate the "enter" key or number keys. For example, "Command-1" to use "function key/command/J" but nothing happens. Is it that the Macbook Air just doesn't have the capacity? Or is it I don't know how to do it?
Thanks,
Richard>Add this to the long list of other important things they have ripped out of the Air machine to make it sexy and light.
FYI, that wasn't about the MacBook Air, it's about the latest generation of Apple keyboards introduced earlier this year. None of them have a Num Lock key or an alternate set of numbers on the main keyboard. Apple quietly removed them from
all of their keyboards, including the MacBook, the MacBook Pro, and even the keypad-less Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard.
Some years ago I picked up a cheap USB numeric keypad, and when I have some need to use numeric keypad-specific keys with my laptop, this seems to be the best way to go unless you don't actually have any space next to the machine. -
Indesign CC9.2.2 unusable on Macbook Pro Retina
Hi there I was wondering if any people happen to get extremely poor usage with Indesign on Macbook Pro Retina.
I have the 2011 version with 2,6Ghz Intel Core i7 with 8GB ram.
I can use Photoshop, Illustrator and even After Effects simultaneously without any hiccups or slowdowns. But using Indesign without any other programs on is useless.
After trying some suggestions like putting the settings to Typical display, closing Font Explorer, no rulers etc.. I still can't use the program as it should.
Problems start when I work in documents with 10 pages with images, text and some Illustrator/Photoshop links in them.
Deleting an object takes 42 seconds and at first it looks like you haven't pressed a single button. Takes 10 seconds before the rainbow wheel appears.
Moving objects takes 31 seconds
Pasting an object from another page takes 1 minute and 11 seconds.
I have seen many people experiencing the problem but haven't seen an solution yet. Does anyone know about a time frame when Adobe will fix the bugs with Retina screens?
Or any other tips for a solution.
Thanks in advance,I just tested this on two other Macbook Retina's and I've got the same problems on those. Could it be because the file is originally made in CS6 and CC can't handle that?
Now testing with activity monitor on to check if I see any weird jumps in there. -
InDesign CS5 hangs when opening files
I have recently begun experiencing a problem whereby I cannot open any existing InDesign documents. I can create new documents and work in them, but I cannot open any documents previously created in CS5.
InDesign CS5, MacBook Pro, Mountain Lion OS 10.8.2, Intel Corei7
The problem appeared shortly after the most recent Apple OS update so I suspect that may be causing this. InDesign just hangs with the beachball trying to open the file which it never does. It gets past linking files, then hangs. The problem has also occurred when I try to open files with InDesign CS6 on the same machine. I have tried to open a variety of different files and the problem still occurs so it doesn't seem to be file specific.
I encountered the problem a few days ago and somehow resolved it through a combination of trashing preferences, removing the SING folder and some font management. Today the problem returned and I can't seem to resolve it via any of those methods. All other Adobe CS5 and 6 apps work just fine.
I saw a post that recommended removing the SING plugin from InDesign's plug in folder so I tried that too. So far no luck.
I've attached the crash report and the Sample Process report from the Activity Monitor.

Any help is much appreciated.

InDesign Workflow with spot colors only
Please can someone explain me why InDesign treats working with four spot colors differently than working with CMYK? They are just four colors or channels, right? What is the difference between Cyan or PANTONE Reflex Blue?
It is true that 99% of the time CMYK is used. It is also true that you can work in CMYK and tell the printer to put a different ink instead of the a Cyan, Megenta, Yellow or Black ink. The project I work on now involves four Pantone spot colors and a few illustrators how need/want to see what they are doing, so...
The question is mainly because InDesign is soooooooooo slow working with spot colors. It feels slower than Quark Xpress 4.11 on a Mac OS 9 G4 machine.
Many thanks!
[-> InDesign CC, MacBook Pro 7i 2011, SSD, 16 G RAM, 1 G GPU]I have never seen ID slow down with spot colors, but, I have not gone past CS5.5 nor do I work with OSX, both of which have many threads releating to screen draw times, and general lag.
SproetS wrote:

I would suggest working mostly in Overprint Preview when working with Spot Colors.
What is the difference between Cyan or PANTONE Reflex Blue?
Excepting that they are both defined colors...everything about them is different.
Consider this - c, m, y, k are all spot colors. They are base colors, not different (to me) than Warm Red, Rhodamine Red, Reflex Blue, Pantone Green, Pantone Purple, Pantone Violet, Pantone Rubine Red, there are a few others..
In you color pallet, Yellow is not a spot color - it is a mix of (typically) y and 0~20% m.
Same for each color in the default pallet - 0~100% of c,m,y,k
It is true that 99% of the time CMYK is used.
Many spot colors cannot be accurately reproduced in the cmyk spectrum.
It is also true that you can work in CMYK and tell the printer to put a different ink instead of the a Cyan, Megenta, Yellow or Black ink. The project I work on now involves four Pantone spot colors and a few illustrators how need/want to see what they are doing, so...
Those days are gone. You would need to be more familair with the hammer and screw approach to avoid overprint mistakes, tints are not the same as transparencies, many hurdles here that have long been forgotten. What you would see on screen would be nothing near to the actual project.
It should be determined before preceeding if the project will be printed cmyk or as 4 spot colors. -
InDesign CS4 MAC Upgrade from Pagemaker installed in 2009.
Uninstalled some time ago -and deleted Adobe files that seemed no longer needed. (I had removed Photoshop Elements and Dreamweaver on this MacBook before).
Installed Lightroom earlier this year -- no problem-- works fine.
Now I am trying to re-install InDesign (same MacBook) and installation problems are reported. Does not accept serial number and when I uninstall the program it gives a warning that is not done perfectly. Looking at the Adobe InDesign CS4 folder I see a stop sign icon and a handful of empty folders. The Adobe Extension Manager folder was not uninstalled.
Can anyone help me?Have you tried this?

InDesign doesn't start on MacBook Pro 15" Mountain Lion
Hi,
Adobe InDesign CS5 is the only program of the Adobe Collection that gives me troubles.
I don't manage to open any existing document nor create a new one.
Here's what I do:
1. Launch the application Adobe InDesign CS5;
2. Select "Create a New Document";
3. Set the New Document settings;
4. Press "OK"
The window of the new document opens but it doesn't become active and keeps waiting until I Force Quit.
MacBook Pro 15" (mid. 2010)
Processor: 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB
Software: OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion)
NOTE: recently I experienced a major problem with my logic board and discovered it is a common issue among MacBooks mid. 2010 / early 2011. Luckly I had it replaced for free. Link to the issue on Apple support site: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
don't know if this has any connection to my current problem.

Please, help me! this is causing loads of problems at work too...
Thank you in advance.

I'm using a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX6.8 and cannot upgrade. I have a subscription to Adobe CC but none of these work on this so I was on with Adobe for 5 hours trying to install and launch Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Muse, and Acrobat Pro from CS6. Well, InDesign is the only one that works and I have a ton of work due! I don't have a serial number for Photoshop or Illustrator except for CS3, and they don't work. InDesign gave me no problems. Illustrator says it can't work on this machine. Photoshop needs a serial number. I'm stumped and getting anxious and freaked out. Can anyone help? Adobe Chat is down right now.
if you have a cc subscription, close ps > sign out and then back in to your cc desktop > open ps.

InDesign problems on Macbook Air running Lion.
HI folks,
I have recently purchased a 2011 Macbook Air, running Lion. I have a copy of Indesign CS4 that I am trying to get running on this machine. I previously had it activated on my macbook pro and had no problems. I deactivated it from that computer and have activated it on the new machine. After creating a new document in InDesign I find that I get the beach ball and it won't do anything. Have any of you had a similar experience? Do any of you know the solution to this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
James.Well, you haven't given us lots of detail - but only because there aren't that many details anyways, right?
Did you install from the original media? (It never would have occurred to me to just drag apps off one machine and drop them on another, but people do this sometimes.)
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall? (That's what I'd do first if a fresh install of a program was borked from the very beginning.)
Have you tried it as a new user? (If it works in a new user account, then the problem is with your user account, not with your install of ID.)
There are other things to try - search the forums for removing the SING datastore, or resetting preferences - but really the uninstall/reinstall should make it work right off the bat, and it also should take less time than actually diagnosing the problem & fixing it. -
I installed CS6 on my new retina MacBook pro laptops. InDesign and Acrobat display document pixilated. I ran the updates and it fixed Illustrator and Photosho, but not InDesign and Acrobat. What can I do to make them display in high resolution? HELP!
InDesign CS6 is not optimized for retina displays. You’ll need to move to Creative Cloud for retina compatibility.

I have downloaded the organiser for Vista, however I cannot see the songs in the Playing Lists, I can add songs in them but I cannot see them in order to arrange the songs. I was able to do that previously with the Media Explorer. Any clues?
