Indesign PDF Export issue - quality

I have InDesign Desktop CS5 and InDesign Server CS5.5
When I export using InDesign Desktop, it exports a 2.16mb file and everything is sharp.
When I export using Indesign Server, it exports a 264kb file and at 125% zoom level, it looks blurry.
The preset we used was High Quality Print.
I cannot get the file over 2mb on InDesign Server (max was 1.2mb with all the settings turned on).
How can this be when it's using the same pdf export preset and same template? I also tried manually creating new preset based on the High Quality Print settings but it's still blurry.
Just for testing, I tried this on the regular InDesign Server CS5, and it exported fine. What settings were changed between CS5 and CS5.5 (everything is set to default settings)?

The directory structure for the template files are the same for Desktop and Server.
When I open up the PDFs generated by both, doing a side by side comparision, the server looks blurry at 125% zoom level while desktop looks sharp.

  • Crystal JRC PDF Export Issue

We are experiencing a PDF export issue with Crystal JRC version 12.2.202.  The PDF report shows 1 of 3 pages but ONLY the first page is generated.  When this occurs, ALL other users that are exporting to PDF experience the same issue with any multiple page report.  I can't find any errors in the log that would indicate what the problem is.  To resolve the issue, I have to recycle the WebLogic application server that hosts  the JRC, which would indicate something gets "locked" in memory and gets cleared when the app server is bounced.
Any ideas on how to resolve this ?

    Hi Ted,
    Thanks for the response!
Though, the mentioned Sun JVM Bug explains the root-cause, the Bug status also state that it is not fixed yet.
Also, we are reluctant to change the JVM Option to -Xint due to unknown impacts on JVM optimizations.
Is there a patch released for CrystalReports to deal with this behavior? We are using CRJ runtime 11.5.7.620 and seeking for a patch on this version.
    Thanks.

  • InDesign CS6 - Exporting Issues, PDF being sent to Photshop and saving as a psd rather than the requested pdf? Please help!

    Hi
I have an issue in InDesign CS6. It has been happening the last couple of days now.
When i export to pdf. regardless of quality instead of being saved as a pdf it is being sent to Photoshop which then saves the file as a psd...
I have updated InDesign to the latest CS6 update which helped the issue yesterday but today the same problem is back. Help please what could be the problem and how do I fix it?
    Any advice is very appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sam

ExportPDF is a subscription service for exporting PDF files into Word and Excel, from Adobe Reader. I suspect you need the InDesign forum, as InDesign is the product here.

  • InDesign PDF Export Color Issues

So I've encountered a frustrating problem that I know others have experienced. It involves the PDF export from InDesign where the PDF color is not matching the document view. It's a critical issue regarding soft proofs for designs where color needs to match the desired result. I never had any issues before but now it's kicked in after upgrading to Mountain Lion and CS6.
Let me preface a few things first...
    Yes, I've callibrated my monitor
Yes, Creative Suite color settings are in sync.
Yes, I've tried the changing transparency blend space... makes no difference.
In my case I have an RGB TIFF placed which has dark midnight blue to light blue tones. When I do an export and it doesn't matter what PDF settings I use the color shifts making it more purplish bllue and the lighter blue tones go away.
BUT, when I export a JPEG, the JPEG looks PERFECT, just like it should and matches the document view.
So I figured the problem must've been solved with the new Acrobat XI... I download the trial and installed it. I created a new PDF and it comes up looking like it should. GREAT, except for the price to update to Acrobat Pro XI!
THEN, some message comes up about trusted certificates?! I click ok... and the color on the PDF goes wrong again! What is the problem with this CRAP? HOW DO I FIX THIS GARBAGE? Is it fixable on the old version (Acrobat X)?
I've worked in Adobe products for years but they are going backwards and becoming more problematic by the day. Not to mention it's ridiculous to have to pay $200 to get a new version of Acrobat Pro after recently buying CS6. This is an insult to long time professional customers, you should be providing this update FREE to makeup for your broken, out of sync with Apple CRAP.

Well any local application change to the color settings is going to show up out of sync
All syncing does is match the application's Working CMYK and RGB settings, but the only case where a Working profile color manages a document is when the doc has no profile assignment. So if I sync to North American General my Working CMYK space is US SWOP, but if I open a document with US Sheetfed assigned, US Sheetfed manages the preview not US SWOP.
I'm not saying you aren't experiencing a bug, but you have to be sure of what profile assignments or simulation profiles are driving the preview and syncing doesn't do that. How you export (are  you including profiles?, making a conversion?), and what device you are simulating in both programs can make syncing meaningless for existing document's previews.
I can't test X but with XI if you export a PDF/X-4 (where there's no conversion and all profiles are included), the  preview with Output Preview closed shows RGB objects unchanged—same as ID with Overprint/Sep Preview Off.
When I open Output Preview the initial Simulation profile is the PDF/X-4 output intent which is the ID doc's assigned profile, in that case  RGB objects preview in the output intent's CMYK space—same as ID with Overprint on.

  • INDS PDF export issue

    Hi,
Exporting large document from InDesign takes significantly long time in InDesign CS6 server. Our document has minimum 1200 page needs to be exported to PDF. It takes around 12 minute to export with "smallest file size" preset. Our requirement is to export quick PDF rather then smallest size pdf.

I've redrawn it all and placed in new images and now its starting to do weird stuff like make the images disappear as well as making part of the transparency 20% (as set by me) but then making another section of it 100%.(See below - top one is correct, bottom is incorrect). I would agree with you that it may just be an issue with the file, except its happening across multiple computers. There's not really any chance its a dud version of CS5 is there? Its all legit so no real reason why it wouldn't be.
Override Master Pages fixes it, but this is pretty disappointing if I need to have to do this every single time as it makes the master pages on half useful.
We do have CS3 actually and I opened it in that, exported it as a .inx but same issue with elements missing - the stroke around the outside disappeared.
Could it be anything to do with bringing across elements from Illustrator? Although the top element is appearing fine, and the bottom transparent element is a copied item so shouldn't be an issue. And the image disappearing - there's no real reason for that.

  • Table of Contents pdf export issues

I create large documents that are exported as pdfs and viewed by users on PCs and Macs. I recently discovered a problem with pdfs created from InDesign, CS4 (viewed on a PC only) where the ToC "hangs up" and will not scroll. The longer the ToC, the longer it takes for the page move. The problem seems to be confined to PC viewers and Macs are not affected. The problem also does not appear when pdfs are exported from InDesign CS3. Files are created on a Mac, and no unusual preferences are set for pdf export. Any ideas?

First off, thanks for the book K T, it's a great edition to my learning how to use iBooks Author, but it was no help.  After playing around and becoming quite frustrated I started digging around in the the TOC I've figured out how to format the TOC a cross the entire book - getting rid of the formatting issue awonacott is experiencing.  I too am (was) experiencing that TOC formatting issue.  Here's what I did to rectify it:
    1: Go into your TOC.
    2. Go into any Section heading list and double click, then change the TOC to TOC Heading 1, 2, or 3.
For some reason the default TOC gets all wonky when you try to insert a section into an already created chapter.  I was having this funny formatting happen to all sections of the iBook I'm creating, not just beyond the 10th section.
I refused to just deal with this crazy formatting, as I believe you should be able to add as many sections as you please without having to trim it down to fit within a 10 sections.
    Anyways I hope this helps.

  • Keynote 6.0.1 pdf export issues

When I "export to PDF", it seems that any style change (font family, weight, style etc) within a paragraph in a text box causes all the text after the style change to disappear in the pdf export.
    Example:
    [begin text box]
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit.
Sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
    [end text box]
In the export, it would say:
    [begin text box]
    Lorem ipsum
    Sed do eiusmod tempor
    [end text box]
Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

I have the exactly the same issue on a brand new MacBook Pro running 10.9.1 (2.6 GHz / i5) and Keynote 6.0.1 (1486). It's beyond irritating.
Have you found a work around?

  • InDesign PDF Exports not as small as Quark

Anybody know why inDesign PDFs are double the size of Quark's? I choose the smallest file size setting and the PDFs still come out twice the size of Quark's.
    Thanks!

Without seeing the comparison files in terms of content, it's very hard to guess what's going on exactly, but there are a few considerations.
    (1) Quark does not support PDF creation with ICC color profiles. Those can get rather large if you have multiple CMYK color spaces or a large number of different RGB color spaces, but those profiles are necessary. Being smaller because you are not color-managed is hardly a feature.
    (2) InDesign does uses PDF language features that allow fairly intelligent handling of objects within Acrobat when using exported PDF (such as understanding that the fi ligature is really the letter f followed by i for purposes of searching, for example).
You don't mention which version of InDesign you are running, but very dramatic PDF file size improvements were made for InDesign 5 over InDesign 4 and for content with non-overriden graphics on master pages, significant PDF file size improvements for InDesign 6 over InDesign 5.

  • How can i change a video to a button in INDD? interactive PDF export issue

in iNDD, I wish to have 2 videos on a page, overlayed, with two buttons that when each is clicked it shows the respective video and hides the other one, i have it working in epub3 using the interactive functionality, but in interactive PDF export, only one video is visible and the other wont hide when the other button is clicked!
    Can anyone help?

Many Many thanks for the reply...
Now I got it and I am working with that.
Before I didnt get the option bcs, I copied the entire clips to new sequence. Now I did as follow,
    1. Created a new sequence with the ratio of 4:3.
    2. Right clicked on the sequence with 16:9 ratio and clicked on insert.
    3. Then selected the sequence in time line and changed the scaling in Effect Controls tab to 75%.
Now my video changed to 4:3 aspect ratio with letterboxing.
Once again Many many thanks to Dave Merchant and Harm Millaard for helping me to get in to this solution.

  • InDesign CS4 PDF Export Issue

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to Adobe and this forum so if I screw something up, please let me know.
    My System:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz, 3GB Ram, 7200rmp 320GB HDD, XP Pro SP3
Adobe Master Collection CS4 full installation.
    My Issue:
Intermittenly, as I export an InDesign document to PDF my font gets rendered improperly.  I have included screen shots of both exports below:
Above is the correct way the font I use should look when it's exported (Grotesque MT Std Light).
Below is the other way the font looks when I export it.
You can clearly see that the bottom block of text is darker and more jagged, almost as if there are two layers of the same text.
The problem is I only have one layer of text!
I imagine there must be some checkbox somewhere that I either accidentally check/uncheck with a mistype (I type fast and irratically, so sometimes I hit keys I didn't mean to) or accidental combination of CTRL+.
Has anyone else experienced font-weight issues like I have?
I would appreciate any insight regarding this matter.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Transparency on the page? Looks like the type was perhaps rasterized during transparency flattening.
Rule #1 is to put type at the top of the stack when there is transparency, and it's a good idea not to flatten (export to Acrobat 5 or higher compatibility if possible) if it isn't absolutely necessary. Even if you move the type to the top you are likely to see an "emboldening" effect on screen and low res printing when there is transparency on the page.

  • Indesign to pdf export issue, visibility of objects

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forums, and this might be a serious newb question...
    My issue is as follows
I've created a master document, with two brown boxes, one on top and one on bottom, when exporting to pdf, they go missing and magically dissappear.
If I export in other formats, jpeg for ex, its all good.
What am I doing wrong, all the other elements/objects/texts appear just fine on the pdf, except for those brown borders.
Attached are a collection of screenshots, please let me know if you need anything else in order to help,
    Best,

  • InDesign PDF export to network server becomes invisible

    Hi,
Just upgraded to InDesign CS5. When I export a PDF document and post onto network server, it becomes invisible. I only know this because when I export onto my desktop and then drag into the network folder, it gives me an error message that it can't replace an invisible file. So I found a way to view the invisible file, trashed it, then dragged the one on my desktop into the network folder. Worked fine. I'd prefer not to have to do this EVERY time I export to PDF. Anyone have any experience with this issue? Help?

    I'd vote a dodgy server. I've had no issues with Mac OS X 10.5.x 10.6.x or Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 or Windows 7 shares.
InDesign has been known to work over the network. I think a patched version of CS 5 has little to no issues working on network shares that I've heard of.
Print Professional is a reasonably vague term that doesn't necessarily mean there is an amazing network setup. The difference between having a clean network setup with collision domains that are not congested and a packet dropping nightmare isn't always apparent. One can have a 60 dollar switch or a 2000 dollar switch and that can make all the difference. Similarly a file store can be a fibre channel beast or a NAS with a gigabit connection. Both can throw out the term gigabit and terabyte and be accurate, but the difference between SOHO grade junky with shakey firmware. What you'll get out of the CISCO Catalyst or HP Proliant in comparison to LinkSys and an HP MediaSmart are worlds apart.

  • PDF Export Issue - content missing (Not background freeze issue)

    Hi,
Currently having some issues with exporting PDF's from Indesign CS5. When I export the first page (which is based off a master page) the majority of the content gets cut off - so this is images, coloured boxes and strokes and a barcode.(Top Image)
When I cut the content from the master page and paste it onto a standard page, then it prints off ok (Bottom Image), but we can't realistically do this every single time. Its not only in one document that its happened - it has occured with several of our documents and across multiple computers.
I have checked the forum and troubleshooting, have gone through and done the troubleshooting based on document and application level to no help. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/499/cpsid_49998.html#main_DocumentLevel
I've read the different posts regarding background tasks which is not the issue as it is actually exporting it and its fine.
Have restarted the machine, double checked updates, checked whether its a damaged document (its not from what I can tell)
Tried exporting without images (Omit OPI) with same results.
Have checked out the transpency issue (as does contain some transparency but no results).
So thinking it must be something to do with the master pages but I have no idea what.
We were using an external plug in for the barcodes for CS4, that does not work for CS5 so I removed the barcode to see if that was affecting it but again no luck.
    Just to confirm we're running
Adobe CS5 onto our computers - we've run all the the updates both for Adobe Acrobat Pro (9.4) and for all of the CS5.
Its being run on iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.6.4
Adobe CS4 has been uninstalled and deregistered so no interference there.
Can anyone help me out here or recommend something?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Online PDF exporting issue - Hyperlinks & Transparencies

We just started putting our printed magazine (approx. 65 pages) online in digital format with hyperlinks. The problem we are having is with transparencies and effects from all the graphic elements. With so many problems, our digital mag vendor said to export as a PDF X-1a but in doing so, we lose all the hyperlinks that are created in InDesign. Manually adding all those links in Acrobat would be way too time consuming. Does anyone know of an easy workaround for this? Like in Illustrator, you could easily use the Rasterize command to flatten effects.

The options are the same in CS6...
PDF/X is a print format and doesn't allow interactivity, but you can try starting there, then change the "Standard" dropdown to "none" at which point the bookmarks and hyperlinks checkboxes should become active, but not all interactivity is going to work (like buttons). You can get the same transparency flattening by starting with the Press Quality or High Quality Print presets and changing the cmpatibility to Acrobat 4.
I don't work with interactivity or things like embedded video and sound in my workflow, but I don't believe you can flatten the transparency from ID if you export to PDF(interactive), though you might be able to do it after the fact using the PDF optimizer in Acrobat Pro.
