INDESIGN PDF TEXT QUALITY

I have been using Indesign for quite a while but I have noticed recently that when I export an Indesign document to a PDF the quality of Just the Text is really poor. I have been messing around with the Transparency Blend Space, but have made sure that the blend space of the document is RGB and that the text is black RGB, this doesn't seem to help at all. This has never happened before. Can anybody help? My email address is [email protected]

Can I just say, it's always been my understanding that the PDF standards and presets have always been there as a guide only. You should check all the settings to see if they conform to your printers. And you should try to get joboptions from your printers to create pdfs that work with their hardware/software etc.
The text showing up poor in the PDF, could be Transparency problems, but unlikely if it's still highlightable. It could be down to a damaged font, or fonts not embedding correctly or something.
There are other ways to create a PDF.
File>Export>PDF
File>Print> Choose Adobe PDF from drop down menu.
Print to postscript and distill the postscript file.
These are all ways to create pdfs and if you're having problems with one method you should try another to see if it's the same issue.
This is a way to narrow down problems.

How do I import an InDesign tagged text file into multiple pages and export as .ps or .pdf using Jav

I have an InDesign tagged text file I've translated from .xml. I need to automate the following steps:
1 - access specific InDesign template (eg. ABC_template.ind)
2 - import tagged text file into InDesign
3 - autoflow text to END of document (normally around 3-5 pages)
4 - save document as either .ps or .pdf file
5 - where the input file stub name matches the output stub name (eg., OrigName.txt outputs as OrigName.pdf).
I would like to completely automate this whole process using JavaScript (because I don't know anyone that knows AppleScript). I've automated the first part using a perl script. I've been trying to find sample snipits of JavaScript that would do one or more of the items listed above, but am having a hard time finding what I need.
Please, I'm desperate!! Can any of you InDesign scripting guru's out there help me??

PDF to InDesign and text threads

I have only a PDF of a 300+ page book. I tried using the PDF2ID plug-in to transfer to InDesign CS3, and it looks clean. However, each page comes in as a separate, unthreaded text block. Is there some way to thread all the pages at once?
The book is pretty much straight text.
Alternatively, are there other plug-ins that would do the job?

Thanks for your quick answer. I tried the trial version and couldn't get the text frames to link so I wrote to recosoft and got the very puzzling answer below. So I'm wondering how this works. Would you know or would you know the direct contact of the gentleman who spoke at the InDesign meeting in SF in January?

Text Frame linking is only performed within a page and that also PDF2ID has
to perform responsible Text Frame linking otherwise frames that shouldn't be
linked will.
A PDF file doesn't contain any kind of text frame linking information.
PDF2ID makes this on its own.

[CS5] Create Export PDF Preset w/ High text quality

Hello,
I've created an Export Preset for PDFs using the PDF/X-1a 2001 Standards. I've left all the default settings, and the PDF looks good, but now its been requested that I make the text appear more "crisp". I'm wondering what settings I could tweak in my Preset to enhance the text quality?

To be honest - I'm not sure about the rasterized/outlined text. We're only viewing it on our computer monitors. What I've done now, which I think will suffice, is created a Preset based on the "Press Quality" preset and saved it with the PDF/x1-a:2001 stanard. This greatly improved the text quality (I haven't dug into the .joboptions file for the built-in Press Quality preset but I'm guessing that's what fixed the issue for me).

I created a resume using InDesign. The online site I am posting indicates PDF (Text based) as a valid format? When I uploaded my resume to the site it is unreadable. What is the problem?

Could be the version of PDF is wrong. Try exporting with Acrobat 4 compatibility and see if that works, and make sure you aren't using anything fancy in the layout. They probably expect PDF saved from Word.

PDF Preview quality is horrible for iPhoto book!

I created an 82 page iphoto book with several photos and some text and when I preview the order in PDF the quality is distored in various ways every time I try it! I even did a software update and reconfigured iphoto! And the problem then is that this PDF quality is what is meant to be your final product once it is ordered!

Boot into Safe Mode and try again.

InDesign Tagged Text for Cross-reference Entries

I'm transforming XML to InDesign Tagged Text. The XML has index codes. For regular page entry type entries I'm having no problem outputting to the appropriate InDesign Tagged Text markup. However, I cannot figure out how to code cross-reference type entries. The document "Using Adobe InDesign Tagged Text CS5 Tagged Text" is extremely limited in its usefulness as it does not list all possible values for tag type tags, etc. I've tried dozens of tag combos and guesses at values. None have worked. Also, for some reason, even though I can create a "See x" type reference in the InDesign document, when I export to InDesign Tagged Text to look at the code, those tags are not included in the export.
Does anyone have a more definitive list of possible IDTT index tag values?

I have been exporting various things to IDTT to see what the result would be, with nothing really helpful as a result. I'll try hyperlinks, but reading of the Adobe guide to InDesign Tagged Text and also just looking at the InDesign scripting object model leads me to believe that there must be specific tags to create index-specific cross-reference tags.

How do I remove a green background from a pdf text document?

I posted this question yesterday and received one reply. I wanted to respond to the reply, but couldn't find a link or "button" to click on that would enable me to do that, so I'm doing it here. As I'm new to this site, please advise me where the link is, if there is one.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that PDF was proprietary, with one "owner" and that PDF was PDF, so it didn't matter what program you had on your computer because PDF was universal. Second, when I googled Nuance pdf, I was directed to this site, specifically the "Create, Edit and Export PDF's" section. Third, I also have Adobe Acrobat with pdf and a bunch ofother Adobe products on my computer. So, that brings me back to my original question, how do I get rid of a green background on a pdf text document, so I don't use up all my ink when I print it. Thanks for your patience and help.

Exporting Text as InDesign Tagged Text in CS3

I am facing a problem exporting the Text from InDesign Document as InDesign Tagged Text. It use to work properly in CS2. But in CS3 the IExportProvider interface CanExportThisFormat() always returns false for the format name "Indesign Tagged Text".

If the CanExportThisFormat() function is ignored and directly tried to export with the above ExportToStream() function it still fails to export into stream.
Has the way to export the InDesign Tagged Text been changed in CS3.
Can any one whos tried this please help as its urgent.

I export files from Photoshop as png's at 72 dpi.
Here is our current holding page. http://www.iheartmylife.co.uk/ All the text on this page has been loaded in as png's from Photoshop along with the image. As you can see none of it is as sharp as it could be.

Preview's PDF text select ignores columns and misses word spaces

I have a number of scanned pdf newspaper articles that I was attempting to copy the text from. Preview appears to register the existence of columns, as there is a pale blue background between the columns.
However when I use the text select tool, it completely ignores the column - and just selects across all columns. And when I paste the text into my text editor, it's missing all the spaces between the words, and the font size is always huge.
Conversely, Adobe reader in XP has no problem selecting by column, and the pasted text is also an exact replication of the original content. I don't know why Preview performs so badly in this regard? Anyone else experience any issues with pdf text select?

Yes, and not just recently.
There is a reason Preview is named, well, preview. It is not an authoring environment and PDFs are not meant to serve in that context either...unless maybe you understand all of inherent the font traps, tricks & tips and how to tune your scanning/OCR software to keep rework to a minimum.
Scanning PDFs is always tricky, and without the occasional heavy metal to bring to the task, it just seems to be that more problematic.
Keep trying, but I'd really suggest to look to other tools at this time.

Flash should be able to publish an html page which will provide the web page code needed for embedding the swf. The page it publishes should be sufficient for planting on a server unless you plan to dress it up with other content as well.

Bad text quality in Adobe Reader on Macbook Pro with Retina

When viewing documents in Adobe Reader (just installed on new Macbook pro retina), text quality in documents and in the program itself is very low.
Text quality is perfect in viewer and in Adobe on other computers and on my Iphone. All settings are as recommended (110 pixels/inch and text smoothening turned on). How can this be?

Edit Indesign pdf in Livecycle Designer

I have a form created in Livecycle designer that I would like to add to an InDesign PDF. I also would like to make minor revisions to the InDesign document in Livecycle. Can anyone tell me how this can be done. Thanks.

it cannot be done!
The PDF's you create with Designer and InDesign are totally different animals and not comparable against each other.
To edit an interactive PDF you created with InDesign you can either use Acrobat for minor changes or the source file (indd) and InDesign.
To edit a dynamic PDF created with Designer you have to use Designer as even Acrobat won't allow changes.
