InDesign print error

I am working on a report that involves importing charts and tables from an Excel file.  I have no problem copying and pasting in. However, when I try to print I get this print error message "Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem."
I know that it is the charts that I am entering are the problem.....Any ideas on how to fix that?

Paste into Illustrator and save as PDF, then Place the PDF.

  • InDesign CS3 pstopdffilter Printing Error on Intel Mac

I'm having a problem printing in InDesign, now that I've upgraded to CS3. I've uninstalled all Adobe products and reinstalled, and I was able to print, but had a printer error on another printer, and now I am having the same "pstopdffilter" error as before. I'd rather not have to keep un-installing and re-installing to fix it. Is there any thing else I can do?
It is a Intel iMac, running OS X (10.4.9). Haven't had this problem with our older G4 and CS3.
    Any suggestions?

If the same printer works as expected printing from the same application on a newer version of the operating system, then it sounds like the necessary solution is to upgrade the operating system. InDesign, along with other Adobe Graphics Manager (AGM) Print clients (Illustrator CS3+ and Acrobat 9+), tend to use Apple's print interfaces in ways that are more complicated than most other applications. So you may see a problem only in InDesign, but the issue may be addressed by changes in the OS print architecture. In addition, specific printers interact with the OS print architecture differently. Some printers still in use do not use CUPS-based drivers, thus requiring an additional translation layer. It's all very complicated</understandment>.
Also, printers that are identified as PostScript devices will not allow the Print as Bitmap option to be chosen. That function uses the Mac non-PS print methods.
    Sincerely,
    Matthew

  • Printing error and Export to PDF error after a Quark Express convert

I are working on a catalogue that was previously made with Quark Express. I used q2id to convert over to InDesign CS3. I had some minor issues setting up the new fonts, but that was no big deal. Now that the catalogue is close to finished, I want to do some test print, however, on several of the files it start processing the printing, finish the processing of all the pages, then kills the print job and comes with the following error:
Print Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem.
Similar error happens when I try to export to PDF, this error only says:
    Failed to Export PFD file
Anyone had a similar problem?? I've done a preflight but ID does not indicate any problems with the file nor its content. Is there another tool to scan the file with to find errors?? Possible fix it?? Is there a log file I could check??
    In advance, thanks guys.
    Working on:
    InDesign CS3
    Windows XP Pro, SP02
    2 GB RAM

    Thanks Ken,
Not sure how to check if we do have OPI comments on some of the images, but looks like I have found a solution to the printing problem at least.
Thanks to a respons by Peter Spier to another topic with similar problems:
    Peter Spier - 4:00am Mar 11, 08 PST (#5 of 6)
The symptoms could describe document corruption rather than network issues which might fall into the category of things that can be cleared up through export to .inx.
Try exporting one or two of the problem files to interchange format, open those and save as new .indd and make a new book file. See if that behaves differently across the network.
I also found another article about INX files, that confirms this technique:
    http://avondale.typepad.com/indesignupdate/2005/08/what_the_heck_i.html
"...INX can also help “clean up” problem files in InDesign CS2—if you’re running into problems, especially with files that started their lives as QuarkXPress or PageMaker files, try exporting the document as INX and then opening that file."
    So, I
    1. exported all files, one by one to INX or InDesign InterChanged
    2. Then reopened those files, saved back as regular .indd files
    3. Reopend the new file (hoping for a refreshed file and test to see if it would open without problems.)
    4. Then packed the files indevidually and reopend the new packed files when done.
Alle the files now print without any problems but export to PDF still fails with the same error message.
Would the OPI comment be a problem here maybe?
    Thanks!

hi i got this problem of "printing error due to out of memory condition" and i cannot save it as a pdf file too. How to solve this prob? i using cs3 and acro 9.. pls help me... got a proj due and cannot afford to waste too much time...

I've also seen this error message for the first time today "printing error due to out of memory condition" - I have 2GB of RAM, 300Gb+ free on my hard drive and have closed all other programs that were using some memory, however have had no problems printing to pdf ever before in Indesign... is there a solution to this problem?

  • PDF Print Error

I have been using CS5 for the last two years to create a .indb file. I always export the book as a PDF and then send it to my printer. I recently had to change laptops and decided to give CC a try on the trial version. I used all the same content and images that I have always used to create the Indesign book. But when I exported the PDF and sent it to print, the printer came back saying that there was a print error and she was unable to print past certain pages. She could open the document and see everything but when she would try to print, a dialogue box would pop up saying there was an error.
I am using a Macbook Pro. Any thoughts?

We are experiencing similar issues. Have you tried saving the print file as postscript and then use Distiller to create the PDF.
We are using older versions of distiller as a work around.
We have some client's that print to a PDF server that are not experiencing this issue with CC publishing apps.
We are continuing to evaluate the CC publishing functionality, we will report our findings once we have the facts.
In the mean time, find work around's, get the jobs out and keep getting paid.

  • Printing Errors in CS5

    Hello All.
I recently updated to CS5. Mac OS 10.6.6. Indesign 7.03.
With many documents created in CS4 and then opened in CS5, I am getting an error printing: "Printing Error: The ASdobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown error".
In some documents, I was able to troubleshoot this by disabling printing on every element in the doc, one at a time, and when it printed, replaced that element.
This is good for a document that has few elements. If it's a large document, I'm in big trouble.
Also some documents just don't end up printing at all. I'm forced to export to PDF and print that. Pain, to say the least.
And if I open the document (original version, without saving up to CS5) in CS4 again, they print perfectly.
    Anybody have any suggestions?
Also, I noticed the export to .inx option is gone. Why?
    Thanx.

What can I say? Code changes from version to version.
Once upon a time I could run a car on leaded gasoline (I'm old), and in the not so distant past I could watch TV on my existing equipment without needing a digital converter box. Things change. Not always for the best.

  • Indesign printing problem

when trying to print either an indesign document or PDF we are getting errors either 'printing error: the adobe print engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem' or for a PDF - 'cannot print, there are no pages selected' we are using printer drivers RPCS Printer DriverVersion7.60 for Ricoh Alicio C2000 digital printer
and are trying to print an A3 double sided full colour booklet. This was working fine (for two years), but since upgrading to CS4 have had problems printing IND docs but if saved as PDF was okay - Ricoh had had other problems with CS4 doing this. Now neither will print - not sure if since an update has been downloaded?
further to this after hours of searching knowledge base and trying many things:
I have fixed any font problems - not that I think they were problems. I can sometimes print it once from the PDF but then if I reprint multiples it doesnt work. Change drivers and same thing, one print only. Now not even that will work again now. have tried shortening the file name, that allowed me to get my single copies for awhile but now nothing.  I have downloaded the new CS4 updates today - no fix. My printer company said they'd had other customers with a similar problem and it was an Acrobat Reader problem- have downloaded the latest update, no fix.
I took the file to my printer company and they could print it okay - which to me said it was a driver problem but they say no its an Adobe problem because I can print other documents.
this is not happening with all docs - just this one file (any version or change of it) - this is a file (catalouge) that has been used and updated for the last two years and now since CS4 is starting to cause problems. We have contacted support - they directed me to a knowledge base article which I had already worked through. We will try again and document what happens at each stage but if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.. please note that we are not professionals and do not understand much of the backend stuff and techno speak.
    arrggh please help
    MissM

further to my last question, it seems it is not just this one document. A Black and white document (PDF) (which had been printing okay right before) is now doing the same thing when trying to print as a booklet - cannot print, no pages selected. BUT if i do just duplex but not booklet both work?
is this sounding more like a driver problem?
    MissM

  • InDesign printing problem/laserjet printer or InDesign the issue?

I have a 30-page InDesign file with text and photos. Some pages print fine (I'm printing on 11x17 and 12x18 paper) and others cause my high-end printer (HP Laserjet 8550n) to spit out an endless stream of 8.5 x 11 pages with lines of gibberish courier text (some might be code, some words). I have to cancel the job on the printer and restart it whenever this happens. Sometimes if I delete a photo and re-Place it, or redo some type graphic the problem goes away. I can tell when a page is going to have this problem when the name of the file doesn't disappear from the list on my printer status window at the moment the printer starts to print. If I turn the layout into a pdf there's no problem printing it.
I sent one particularly stubborn problem page (after re-placing the photo and some text) to the company printing the job. They easily printed the page on their humble little laserjet printer.
I'm using InDesign CS4 on a 2008 iMac running OS 10.5.8. Does this seem like the problem is with my printer or with InDesign?
    Thanks!

This is so odd. On this particular problem page, a couple of days ago I replaced the image 3 times and it still gave me a printer error. I copied the page from the 30-page doc onto a new, single page and still had the problem. I deleted the image and still had the problem. There are three text boxes and I deleted them one at a time and each time, all the way down to one text box, I was still having the problem. Tonight I go back to the original 30-page doc., replace the image, and the page printed out fine. Frustrating!

  • Hyperlinked Pages Generate Unknown Printing Error

I'm working in a 300+ page catalog that I've never had problems with. Today it decided to give methe following error when trying to print or export to a PDF:
"Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem."
The error shows up when trying to print from seperate computers and from CS4 AND CS5. I've trouble shooted the advice found here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/332/332622.html but I think it's something else.
The odd thing is that I can print and export to PDF pages without hyperlinks or cross-sreferences. It's only when I try to print a hyperlinked page that I get the error. The only change I've made since the last time it printed/exported properly is adding a couple hundred more cross-references.
I'm on a tight deadline and right now I can't get my file out of InDesign. Anyone have ideas?

    CU Dezigner wrote:
    This is interesting ...
When I package the file and check everything off to be included it processes everything as it should EXCEPT it doesn't package the linked images. Then when I open the packaged copy of the document with broken image links I'm able to print ...
So apparently the problem has to do with my images but it's only affecting pages with hyperlinks. This is weird.
Well if that's the case open the images and do a save-as and see if they come good

  • HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome

HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome. Extra large font sizes and weird formatting issues only when printing emails from Gmail within Chrome. No problems when printing the same email from Gmail+Internet Exolorer or Thunderbird. Using the IE Tab extension in Chrome prints the email correctly but the style of Gmail's message window is completely weird ie: formatting bar is spread out vertically instead of horizontally. I believe it is clear that this is an application specific issue between the HP LASERJET CP1525nw printer and Google Chrome + Gmail. This printing scenario does not occur when printing anything else or when printing via another printer. I would appreciate receiving any suggestions to solve this issue.

    Hi AbZu,
You need to contact Google Chromes technical support as this is only an issue with Chrome. You have indicated that the printer functions correctly everywhere else. Check out the link below for Google Chrome technical support. Let me know if you need additional assistance?

  • "Print Error Whilst Printing" when trying to print or save as PDF

I don't understand why i can't just print - everytime it says Print error whilst printing whether i'm actually trying to save it or print it. I'm very new to using Macs - 3 days now so not used to how they work yet but i'm running Tiger 10.4.8 on an Intel Mac if anyone can help me please!

Hello Dorin and thank you for your answer.
Yes page 5 is a double page spread and this is not the only one in my book! I will modify the page 5 to see if the error message will appear at the next double page spread....

  • HP Envy 4500 All in One - Printer Error - not finishing print job / non-specific error code

Help - my new HP ENVY 4500 AIO (less 3 months old) has never completed a print job if it is over 1 page. I'm connected wirelessly, and not sure if there is an interruption in the wireless connection or if this is defect in the  printer. I receive a message "Printer Error - HP ENVY cancelling print job" and that's it. It will usually happen when it's on the last page of a small print job or half way thru a large (10+ page) of a print job.  Any suggestions? I've downloaded HP Print/Scan Dr - it didn't find any issues.

I had the same issue. Got in contact with HP customer service and the first person that helped had no idea how to fix it.  Got in contact with someone else and they found the issue right away. I had it connected through the wrong port.
First find out what the IP address of your printer is. You can do this by pressing the small wifi button on the front of your printer and it will show the IP address.
Then what you'll have to do is go to the start menu of your computer and search for "Devices and Printers".
Click that and a screen will open. Look for your printer an right click.
Click "Printer Properties" and a new screen will open.
Along the top you will see a few tabs. Click the one that says "Ports"
    Click "Add Port"
Highlight "Standard TCP/IP Port" by clicking on it, then click "New Port"
    A new screen will open.
    Click "Next"
Type in the IP Address of your printer and click "Next"
After that your computer should find your printer.
Click finish and you should be all set.
    Hope this helps.
