InDesign printing a booklet

How do I print a 6 x 8 inch booklet (32 pages ) on 8.5 x 11 paper?  The back and front text are not aligned.  They are off slightly.

Thanks, Mike. I tried exporting to postscript and then pdf.  Alignment nearly perfect!  BUT, the text on opposite sides is upside down!
Here's what I am doing:
1. Indesign file 8 x 6 in pages (each large page broken into two 4 x 6 pages as booklet)
2. I go to Print Booklet and in setup window I have 2-up saddle stitch with 0.0625 creep and margins set to Automatic fit.
3. I go to Print settings and in that window, setup has landscape orientation, page position-centered, and set printer for postscript file. Under ppd I select my printer (yes, Peter, it is an inkjet HP 6500 E709).
4.I press OK, then the window changes to originl print window and I press "print" and it saves as a ps file.
5. Now I go to that saved ps file and click "print"
6. In that print window I do two things: 1. I select  2-sided short-edge binding.  2. I just select two-sided printing no binding designation.
7. in the first print, I get correct text orientation, but it is not aligned back to front.
8. in the second print I get near perfect alignement but the text is unsipde down on back to front.
whew.. I think Ive made this way too complicated... and for nothing--I can't get it right!

  • Indesign wont print duplex booklet

im having an issue printing duplex booklet straight out of indesign
i have enabled two sided printing on my BROTHER MFC-J6510DW printer dialogue, but when you send it, it doesn't print duplex.
for now i have had to add a PPD patch file so i can print the booklet to PDF (postscript) file, and then from there the printer seems to have no problem printing the document duplex.
any ideas why it doesn't work straight from indesign?

Other programs don't mean a thing to ID and printing. The bad news is I'm a Windows user and the dialogs are a little different and I never can remember which buttons are which on the Mac. You need to get all the way to the printers driver settings dialog -- might be called printing preferences or something similar, and it may be one level deeper than you've gone so far.
Or it could be that ID and that printer just don't get along.

  • How can I print a booklet where each pdf page is vertically placed on each half page instead of one pdf on each booklet page?

I've printed a booklet before but each pdf page had two powerpoint slides on each pdf file.  This binder has one powerpoint slide on each pdf page and if I try to print it as a binder, each pdf page takes up the whole half-page on the booklet.  I want to print two pdf slides on each page of the booklet so when I open the booklet, there are four powerpoint slides printed.  So I basically want to combine the ability to print multiple slides per page but in a booklet form.

Why not reconstruct the pages in InDesign they way you want the double pages to appear. There may even be an imposition script available that will do the trick. You could then output to pdf all the pages you want the full spread on. Leave the original to create the pages you wanted left as is.
You can ask in the ID forum about an imposition script. I know there was one with CS4, there may have been one with CS3.

  • InDesign printing to PDF results in white "highlight" effect behind PLAIN black text.

InDesign printing to PDF booklet spreads results in white "highlight" effect behind PLAIN black text. There are no text effects like drop shadows or transparency. Some of the text is in it's own shape above a semi-transparent shape, but not all.
Exporting to PDF does not cause this problem, just printing to pdf. I cannot use the exported pdf as I need the full booklet spreads. Help!

In addition to vinny38's advise to not print to PDF, you may not even need printer's spreads, unless you are printing this yourself. If you are sending this off press, the prepress team will want to do the imposition themselves. If you are printing to a network copier, some have the ability to do booklet printing from a multi-page PDF saved in single-page reader's spreads (one page for each page of the document, rather than two document pages for each PDF page).
If you do need to print this yourself and if you have to impose it in InDesign, consider making a new document and placing the pages of your original document onto the pages of the new document, the way you would place any other images. You can decide where the pages have to go in order to get printer's spreads, and when you're done imposing, export as a PDF and print that PDF to your printer. You will get a better-quality PDF than printing to PDF.

  • Booklet Gutter Issue - When I print a booklet at 11x17, it causes a large white line down the center. But, when I try the same thing at 8.5x11 it prints side by side as it should. Help?

I have a 36 page booklet (each page is 8x5.5in). I have exported the booklet from InDesign as Pages. In Acrobat, when I select Print Booklet and 11x17 paper, it created a large white gutter down the center and the pages do not back up to each other.
I tried the same thing with 8.5x11 paper and they pages backed up to each other correctly with no white space down the center.
I tried again at 11x17 (size needed to print my booklet full size), and it's still causing the large white gutter. It's nearly half an inch or larger.
    Help is VERY appreciated!

  • Print as booklet ?

Hey i have a question about 'print as booklet'  :
    — is it possible to print only one page of a booklet (but without changing the booklet itself).
    or
    — is it possible to export the booklet as a PDF : i can choose Adobe PDF 9 as a printer but i doesn't ask for a filename so i don't think the file is created…
NB. I need to be able to print only certain page of the booklet, i need to print it recto verso by hand…

Print Booklet doesn't handle ranges from the booklet well, and it sounds like you want to print to a non-duplexing printer. I do that by printing to PDF, then printing odds and evens from Acrobat. Selecting Adobe PDF 9 should work as the printer (but there are some changes if you upgraded to Snow Leopard, I think). There's a recent post about that on InDesign Secrets.

  • CC Package to IDML fails print-to-booklet in CS6

I work in a school that has yet to upgrade to CC.
I routinely work with student files that are built in CC. I process in previous version transitions has been to Package the file, and use an IDML file to jump between version.
This time we are seeing two issues:
CC ID files that have been packaged, always fail when you try to use print to booklet. We receive the "This document uses multiple pages sizes" warning, even though by all tests and estimations on my part, the layout is consistent and all pages are the same size. Resetting these values does nothing. Unfortunately the print to booklet process is important to us for a variety of reasons specific to our setup.
The other annoying issue I've not been able to figure out regards CC subscription fonts - How can these be included in the packaging process? The student receives a warning about font licences, but the fonts themselves never appear in the package folder.
Anyone else have these issues and found a way around them?

@Bob – there were reports that this issue – "This document uses multiple pages sizes" – will be with CS6 as well.
From the German language hilfdirselbst.ch :
»das aktive Format verwendet verschiedene Seitenformate« Broschürendruck nicht möglich - Adobe InDesign -  HilfDirSelbst…
The reports are showing, that the bug was resolved with InDesign CC.
But there is good news here:
I tested one of the critical documents, made with CS6 v8.0.1 in the latest CS6 v8.1.0 version.
And it worked! I could print to booklet with it.
At least I did a PostScript file and successfully distilled to PDF using ADPDF9.PPD (Adobe PDF 9.0).
    I'm on OSX 10.7.5 with InDesign CS6 v8.1.0.

  • I am trying to print a booklet.  I have printed it several times without issue.  Now when I print, it gives me one blank page or else 2 out of my 8 pages?

I am trying to print a booklet.  I have printed it several times with no issues.  Now when I try to print it (with no changes in the program) it will either give me a blank page or will print one of my pages (there are 8 pages total). Any help?

No I didn't even read through your post, to long.
You said that "No matter what program I try to install, as soon as the installer opens it crashes". Were you talking about the install for this/these 3D programs or ANY program? As it is worded it sounded like ANY program. That tells me there is a problem with your Mac, software or hardware.
Now you say others install programs, which is it. Programs other then the 3D ones install or no programs install?
Could simply be your Mac is to old to run these programs and the installer knows that. You never said what model or year Mac it is.

  • How to print a booklet in A5 hor sheet format?

    Hi everybody,
from a couple of days I'm trying to print a booklet onto a A5 sheet's format. Each sheet should display 2 columns. The personal setting are 13 mm margin all around the sheet and 26 mm between the 2 columns.
When I'm trying to print, personal setting are not respected and the Reader prints with its own margin's setting which I cannot modify as i need. All this cause that the print area turns to an A6 format.
Default margin of the software are 25 mm all around the sheet and I don't findo no optiono to modifay them.
    Someone can help me? Thanks!

  • How can I print a booklet without a white outline around the border?

How can I print a booklet without a white outline around the border? I'd like the front page to be covered entirely.

You either need a borderless printer, or you have to print on oversize paper and trim off the bleed.

  • Two-sided printing and booklets (HP D2360)

I am trying to do two-sided printing and booklets with an HP DeskJet D2360 printer. I installed on my MacBook the software I downloaded from hp.com. The printer was correctly identified even before I installed its driver.
I am trying to print web pages, ODT documents, and PDFs documents from Preview, either two-sided or as booklets. The booklet printing option appears nowhere, while the two-sided printing option is grayed-out. Both options show up and work properly under Windows XP.

    1. If the form is a oure XFA form then you can control the duplex printing settings in the Master Pages. You may need to define a second Master page that has the duplex printing on for the appropriate pages.
    2. Yes having a checkbox indicate a value in another field is possible but you will need script to do it. On the chanege event of the checkbox you want checked you can add code like this:
    if (this.rawValue == 1){
         numericFieldName.rawValue = 100.00
    } else {
         numericFieldName.rawValue = 0.00;

  • Printing a booklet

I am having a terrible time trying to print a booklet.  The end result should be 8.5 x 11, printed on 11 x 17 paper.
If I try to print directly to our Canon ImageRunner, I get an error.
If I export to a PDF, it either prints out as an 11 x 17 page size or I get a booklet with the pages all out of order.
If I were printing from something like WORD, this would be a breeze.
    How can I get help?

And don't attempt to use the Canon's booklet module from Print Booklet.
If the Canon has a finisher that can fold and staple, I think you'd do better to export the file to sequential pages as a PDF and print from Acrobat.

  • Creating a multipage PDF that prints 2 booklets side by side?

Hi I am a designer with NO pre-press experience and I need some help!
I am trying to print a booklet that is set at 8.5 x 7 as a 2 up document on 8.5 x14 paper. My problem is that I don't want the booklets to print consecutive pages (right now they would print 1,2 3,4 5,6 etc.) I want them to print side by side so that when the sheets are cut we would have 2 completed and collated books.
I know that I could just duplicate each page and print that, but I am wondering if there is a quicker way to make this happen? We have over 100 different multipage PDFs to print so I'm looking for a lean way to get this done.
Is this possible? Do I need to purchase pagination software?

When I need to do this I generally make a file set up as a single page (8.5 x 7, in this case) for easy design, then create a second, non-facing doc at two-up size (8.5 x 14) and place the pages from the first file int the second tow times so I have two copies per page. I use the Multi-page importer script for this: InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files
