InDesign Problem Using Panels in Vista

I have InDesign installed on two computers. The one with Windows XP runs InDesign just fine, no problems, but the one running Vista I am unable to use the selection tool without using the keyboard command and I am unable to use or select anything on any of the panels. The drop down menus are enabled but other than that I cannot select anything.
I have reset the default preferences and even tried renaming them so that the system was forced to reset to the defaults.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. I can only be lead to believe that this is a Vista problem since it is working fine in XP.
Help anyone?

I don't have Aero as a Color Theme selection and I just changed the font to the default (96 dpi) as suggested in the Adobe link you sent. This seemed to enable me to use the panels now but everything is so small now, not just that program but everything and I'm not sure that I will be able to work with it this small.
Thank you for the information. It's the first time I was able to use the InDesign in Vista. My problem is that I need to work back and forth between InDesign and Photoshop and I can't get Photoshop to cooperate with the Windows XP. It was working fine but then as of last week it now tells me that I need to enable GPU enhancements through Performance setting in the Preference Panel.
Well, when I go into the Preference Panel then the system shuts down. Same thing if I try to open a photo. It opens then immediately shuts down.
Any information on this?
I've just started with the Adobe Forums and have been reading all of your responses so far. Thank God there are brilliant people out there for those of us less fortunate.

Problem using Java under Vista - Need help, please

Hi everybody, I'm looking after a solution to resolve following problem : for one of my customer who's needing to use a secure access to a HTTPS URL, after Java is started, I receive the Java logo but it must be followed by an authentification screen where it's needed to enter a login + password. Sometimes it work (I think only when I force to reload the HTTPS certificate) but each time, the application freeze on this screen that I can see in the Task Bar but I can only close it and impossible to access it for the next step of the process. It's working on an original Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed on a Sony Vaio Laptop and I've already use the application on another computer with Vista Business without any problem. Thanks for your answer. I've just tried on my XP Laptop. Here are the steps : after several windows, the Java start into a blank window and I receive then the logo at the left side of the window. After, in this case I'm asked to accept the HTTPS certificate and remember it if I want. When accepted, I receive then new "little" window (like a dialof box) with "Authentifaction request" when I need to enter again a login + password. If I recieve this last window, it mean that all is going fine but in my "problem" case, after the Java window, I see only this authentification request onthe task bar but no way to open it or to see it on the screen but no error message except ont the java window (no answer). Perhaps one more information, indication, it appaers "Oracle Application Server Forms Services" into the title bar.

Indesign problem using content bundler 'internal communication error'

Hi I have been working on a project using adobe Indesign Cs5 and digital content bundler beta version and have an error message that is preventing the bundling of a publication. "Internal communication error. For more information, see ErrorLog.txt in the application storage directory". On the forums it appears a solution was provided by Bob Levine but I cannot locate the thread where it was written.When I open the error log file it says ERROR UKNOWN PRODUCT
Any help would be most appreciated as i have been working on this content for quite some time.

This sounds like one of those "oddities", contributed to by a few sources.
I can clear the Safari cache files as a temporary solution, but I encounter the same difficulties with the “problematic” files once they have been opened again.
Wondering if you disabled the Safari Cache would the refresh function work correctly? As a test you can disable the Safari Cache by Emptying the Cache first via the Safari menu, then Quit Safari. Now go to the Finder>Your User Library>Caches>Safari. Single click on the Safari folder, then Apple Key + I to open Info panel. There, check the "locked" box. This prevents further additions to the cache. The downside, you lose your ability to upload images etc. within Safari (my cache is disabled, so I use Firefox for the uploads).
Then restart Safari. Try the PDF from within Safari.

I tried hard reset on my iPhone. I tried restarting laptop and iPhone. I tried a different laptop. I tried removing driver and reinstalling from Device Manager but did not find a driver other than "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" which I heard shouldn't be uninstalled.
Anything I haven't tried?

Are you seeing your music listed in the iPod screen, or in Win explorer as in your earlier post?
I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

Is there a version of InDesign that I could use on Microsoft Vista?

I would like to use Adobe InDesign to create flyers and other various marketing documents. However, the most recent version is not available for Microsoft Vista. Is there somewhere I could download or trial InDesign that allows me to use it on Vista?

I'm currently experiences problems with Zen Vision M Series Media Explorer using 32-bit Vista Home Premium. When i'm trying?to burn CD's onto my Zen after?I burn the first one then click to burn another it freezes. Is there any patches i should be downloading to solve this problem??Can anyone help? I have the same problem. It all started yesterday when I was installing the cd drivers in my new computer. I have searched numerous forums and some people had to return the product. Please admins help on this issue as I understand it is very serious.

However, I am having almost the same problem with Windows XP SP3. I have tried installing and updating using both an admin class user and the actual Administrator. At first I thought it might be related to Symantec EndPoint until I saw the Vista thread, but I get the same problems even with EndPoint not on the machine. The posted technote (which seems oddly written by the way.. mentioning junctions AND folders?!?) does not cover XP, only Vista. My attempts to translate it over to XP procedures does not get very far.
The install goes fine, but any subsequent updates for the suite fail. Once the failure occurs, InDesign and other apps will refuse to open. I can't even right-click a file in Windows Explorer or it also results in a crash (I am guessing to the CS Drive and Bridge additions to the contextual menu). The main apps that fail to update appear to be the same ones mentioned for Vista:
Adobe Drive and Services update (aka Version Cue client 4.0.1, Creative Suite Infrastructure 1.0.1)
Adobe Version Cue Server 4.0.1 update
Flash Lite 3.1 Update for Adobe Device Central CS4 (aka Device Central 2.1)
Adobe Output Module update for Adobe Bridge CS4 (aka Output Module 2.1)

Luckily we use drive images for our systems so I can hop back to a freshly prepped notebook with out much delay, but given the long CS4 install time this has become a pain to try to solve.

Disabling font tab in InDesign CS5 Control panel

Hi,
Is there any option to disable the Font change option in the InDesign CS5 Control panel. That is the user should not change the font using Control panel.

What I need here is, whenever the user change the font using Control panel, an alert should be made to the user and the font should not be changed.
I am confused why the method the user chooses matters.
Why is it a problem if they use the Control panel but not the Character panel?
I don't think you can achieve this with scripting.
With substantial effort, you maybe able to detect when they change a font and pop up an alert, but it is pretty difficult.
It would be more doable but still hard in the C++ SDK.

CS4 - InDesign problems

The InDesign I have learned to use has changed. Many of the valuable clicks no longer work. Layers won't work. Can't click on the arrows. Can't get any of the text buttons to work. Calendar script won't work. What Happened & how do I get proper function restored? A few months ago I downloaded some calendar creating programs and it has been non-functional since then. I have reset preferences a couple of times. I also deleted the CS4 programs and reloaded them to start fresh. Did not change anything. Creating new designs w/o the tools is almost impossible + it takes forever to find alternative work-arounds. I am not very tech savy but I can (was) able to do great things with InDesign. Do I have to buy a new computer to get back the functions I paid for when I bought CS4? THX

Problem using ipod with itunes 5.0.1

Could anyone help me?? I'm having serious problems using my ipod mini with my "just downloaded" itunes 5.0.1.
it says that my comunication software with ipod is not correctly installed and that i have to reinstall itunes again. i did it the problem is always there. what can i do?? can someone help me??

Man, it seems that iTunes 5.whatever has gotten us all a little hot under the collar. I'm back up and running...this is what I did...I hope it helps some of you out.
1) created a new folder in MyMusic and copied everything from my iTunes library to the new folder. I then tested a few songs to make sure they still played (you never know)
2) I deleted iTunes using the control panel selection Add/Delete programs. I emptied the recycle gin and then did a search to see that iTunes was no longer there.
3) I went to filehippo.com to download iTunes 4.8 (my original disks are packed (Thank you to poster Allison for the filehippo.com suggestion).
4) I copied all my songs back into iTunes from where I had stored them in the new folder I created in MyMusic)
5) I connected the iPod Mini and opened iTunes and darn if it STILL didn't recognize the iPod
6) I did a restore on the iPod
7) I reconnected the iPod and had to reregister it and Voila! it worked again!!!!
Whatever the new features were in ver. 5.01, they were NOT worth the hassle I've experienced over the past two weeks. I'll stick with version 4.8 for awhile.

Problems with Safari in vista

I'm having some problems with Safari in Vista.
I recently wiped my hard drive, and reinstalled Windows. Anyway reinstalling programs and I've come into a problem.
When I open Safari it gets stuck loading. It does this with any site.
All my other browsers work fine, and even with the firewall and stuff turned off it won't work. It worked fine before, but now it just won't do anything. Not even a page won't display thing.
It just gets stuck. Anyone know how to get it to work? Thanks.

Is java 1.6.0.3 latest version installed?
have you tried removing the two user folders that Safari uses to store prefs, bookmarks, history and cache in? (don't delete, just rename or move aside).
For now, FF 3.0A is probably a better choice until later anyway. There are WebKit latest builds, but I don't know how to use or install those in Windows, but would be 10-19-2007 of the core foundation Safari uses.

Problem using PSE9 Brush Tool!

I am experiencing a problem using the PSE9 Brush Tool. The color does produced by the brush not match the color of the sample picked by the Eyedropper Tool, Painting near the area where the sample was picked-up results in a much darker color.

Check the blend modes for the brush tool in the tool options bar.
Also if your painting on a blank layer check the blend modes in the layers panel.
Either way try the Normal mode.

another panel with gridbaglayout is attached to the frame
when a node on the tree is clicked , changes are made to the second panel with lots of components.but the change in the second panel is reflected only when the jframe is resized,ie its not displayed automatically.what can be the problem?im using jdk6.

I'm new to this community and I'm banking on someone being able to help me!
I'm connecting a DAT player to the SPDIF input on my Soundblaster Li've card and recording using Audacity.
Within Creative Audio HQ I've got the SPDIF volume level set to 00% (for starters, perhaps someone can explain why there is a volume control when I thought this signal was staying in the digital realm?!) and when I record in Audacity the resulting material clips with high transient sound... a piano, for example, distorts on the louder notes.
I need to take the level down to about 70% (or the equivalent in Audacity would be 0.7 - the 2 'volume' controls are connected) to avoid any clipping.
I've had the sound card years and used to use SoundForge without any problems. Any ideas why this is happening in Audacity?
I'm using XP and?I have downloaded the latest drivers and turned off the MOBO onboard sound in my BIOS.
I would be grateful for any assistance anyone can give.

If your pre-amp is a phono pre-amp (with RIAA in-build), I suppose it's not the culprit for clipping.
How have you set the recording and source (input) levels on Volume Control and Recording Control?
Try adjust the recording level by the 'hights' (loudest outputs) of the record (you know those recordings so you can easily find those places (or you can look on vinyls surface where the darkest areas are --> loudest outputs)).
