InDesign PS file for booklet printer spreads

The PS file InDesign CS6 generated to use to import into Acrobat for printer spreads has pixelated halftones. Is this a problem with InDesign CS6? Does it contain a post script driver?

Are the links up to date? Are you using the ADPDF9 PPD for the printer description file? You need to install that yourself.

  • Saving InDesign CS4 files for InDesign CS2

I'm about to upgrade from CS3 to CS4 but have a client who needs to open documents I create InDesign CS2. I've been saving files for this clients in CS3's interchange (.inx) format, which has worked fine. But CS4 .inx files will only open in CS3. One work around I found was on TUAW (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/08/tuaw-tip-saving-indesign-cs4-files-for-indesign-cs2/), which suggests opening the .inx file in a text editor and changing the version number. The resulting file should then open in CS4. I was wondering if anyone has tried this (with or without success) or has any advice on saving CS4 docs for CS2? Thanks very much!

I'll go with option 3 since I no longer have CS2 on my machine and my
client won't be upgrading anytime soon. Thanks for the help and great
    advice.
I'd never use this workflow if I couldn't test it on CS2 before sending it off to the client. Don't know what to tell you here... good luck?
Me, harsh? Is that my rep?
Oh, come on. I can say it another way:
"Peter's going to be way too nice about this... DON'T DO IT."

  • Creating InDesign files for both print and mobile output?

I am looking for a way to create files that can be multi-purpose for both print and mobile/online environments. I would like the output to be 2 different PDFs from one set of Indesign files. The problem I am encountering is that currently my files are full of hi-res and vector graphics, effects, and are generally created to be optimized for large-scale printings on offset or digital presses. I am trying to use the same files to generate files that are optimized for mobile and online presentation but finding that the number of vector graphics specifically is slowing page display down.
My initial reaction is that the solution would have to be dual-development. Multiple forms of 'master graphics' would have to be created and placed on multiple layers (one for print and one for mobile/online).
Hi-res files could be made lo-res in Acrobat or Pitstop, but vector imagery would have to be rasterized and I am not aware of a method to do that in either of those programs.
I have found some info on adobe.com leading me to think that maybe CS6 addresses some of this, but the majority of my work is being done in CS4 with only the bleeding edge being done in CS5.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

the output to be 2 different PDFs from one set of Indesign files.
You can accomplish this by saving each PDF using a different preset - High Quality Print for the high res, smallest file size for web
but vector imagery would have to be rasterized...
You should be trying to keep all vector work as vectors. This, in most cases, lowers the file size. There are a couple of exceptions to that like if the vectors are very complex (layered etc) and you are using bitmap effects like drop shadows. In general, rasterizing will increase the file size and lower the quality.
Is there any functional difference between the 2 PDFs? I am wondering why exporting using 2 different presets will not do the job efficiently enough. You could always save your linked images with a low res version - same file but make a copy 100dpi instead of 300dpi. This might help but InD normally downsamples the images anyway when exporting as smallest file size.
EDIT:// In Acrobat, you can save as "Reduced Size PDF" which strips out all the meta data etc and makes the PDF lighter and faster for web use. This would be a final, before publishing online step.

  • How do I print separate book files into a printer spread saddle stitched document?

I have 6 separate files that are contained in a book in InDesign that are currently 8.5 x 11 pages (grand totaling 40 pages) which I would like to print all together in printer spreads, saddle stitched so that I end up with an actual book. How do I do this from InDesign?

Ask in the ID forum. Sheet layout/ print pagination is usually handled by other software and the RIP/ printer driver, but I'm sure there's some feature for that or a plug-in that can do it, I just never use this stuff since I too rarely use ID...

  • Packaging InDesign CC file for CS5 user

We just upgraded to InDesign CC (9.2), but the graphic designer I work with uses CS5.  I need to package some files for her but do not know how to do it so that she will be able to access a compatible file.  Thanks.

Package it. Close the file and then open the one in the package. File > Save as and change the type to InDesign CS4 or later (IDML).
You should probably send a PDF as well since the chances of a perfect conversion are close to zero. If that file is getting returned to you, you are in for a world of pain trying to work this way.

  • Spool file for Mass printing of smartforms

    Hi all..
    My requirement is as follows...
Once the selected population is established, the new program would select all  those Development Plans and <b>create a spool file</b> of all the printable formats (using the same smartform as the individual form print).  This spool file would then print to the printer selected by the user on the selection screen.  This would need to be run in the background, as it is expected it would have a long run time.
can any body tel me clearly how to approach this requirement,
any sample code for spool file creation in this case../??

  • Workflow for creating files for online printing

I recently asked a question about making a copy of a file in Aperture 2 but am still unsure as to the best method to use. The original is cropped for posting to the web, and the duplicate is to be cropped for standard print sizes. I didn't quite get a clear answer, so I wanted to ask what other users' workflow is for preparing images for printing at an online site (I use adorama, which has an aperture plugin). In my case, my "ideal" crop, posted to a mobile me gallery, is not a standard size, but I do want the print to be a standard size. How do you keep the preferred crop for viewing online but change to a standard crop for printing?
    Thanks,
    John

size is mort important than format. I prefer PSD files, but png, tiff, tga, even jpeg if you do not need transparency. Just make them big enough that at some point in your composition they are scaled to 100%. IOW, if you are drawing full frame animation cells for HD they do not need to be any bigger than 1920 X 1080 pixels. If you are going to scale them up or move in on some details then the area you are going to be pushing in on needs to be 1980 X 1920.

browse for the fop.war file on local machine
for Application Name i have ApexFOP
for Map to URL I have /apex/fop
    then I click Deploy
it says succesfully loaded but when I click on the ApexFOP in the Deployed applications list it says not loaded
    I have re-started the OC4J
any help would be very gratefully recieved , I'm going nuts trying to do this

  • How to convert InDesign CS2 files for editing in CS5 (win)

We are a small publishing company with several top-selling language products. I need to revision a title which was published 10 years ago. The files are CS2 and I cannot open them in CS5. Seem Adobe doesn't offer any conversion utility. It seem I need to open them in CS3 then save and use CS4 to convert from CS3 to CS4, then I can use CS5. But I cannot find CS3 for sale anywhere. So I'm screwed. Please offer a file conversion service. It's just code! you can run the old versions on virtualized servers and charge $500 per file. I'll pay! I'm totally screwed. We have to recreate the entire book from scratch. I used to be an Adobe promoter, but now I'm a detractor. this is horrible.
Does anyone have old versions around could be used to get this job done?
    Cheers!

OK this is seriously messed up. I just spent the day installing trial versions of InDesign CS3 and CS4 (on a Windows Virtual PC running Windows XP) and converted my files from CS2 to CS3, then C3 to CS4. But when I try to open in CS5, they still crash InDesign CS5! Something is corrupt or incompatible with InDesign CS5 even though they opened in CS3 and CS4. wtf.
Guess I'll just have to edit in CS4 and give up on bring these files any closer to the modern world? Any other ideas?
    crash on open

  • InDesign CS2 file won't print after placing an image

Every once in a while, I can't get a file to print after I place an image. The file would print fine prior to adding the image. This doesn't happen with all images - and I have investigated (trying to save the images with different extensions), but haven't found the problem.

You have provided us exactly zero information that would allow us to help you with your problem.
You could provide a sample available for us to download and test. Or you could give more information if you could list some replicable information. But you've given us neither. Sorry.

  • Making a PDF X3 file for printing in only 1 colour (black)

    Hi,
Sorry but it seems I need again some help.
From InDesign CS 3 I am making (Print to Adobe PDF) a PDF file for a printing house (books and magazines).
I need to do a PDF X3 compatible file, and among other settings it checks that indeed the file has only black, no other colors. I do this trough "Print to Adobe PDF" because while working, my text is colored so that I can more easily identify the styles in use. Then I print with the option "Composite CMYK" and "Text as Black". I also use crop marks.
The problem is is that when checking the PDF X3 compatibility, the crop marks appear as a second color (Registered) so the file is flagged as having problems.
What settings must I use so that the file cheks OK, that it has only black (1 colour) and can be generated by using "print to" and not "export as"?
    Thanks for the help,
    ionP

Thank you for your suggestion, unfortunately it seems this is not the solution.
I did print as composite gray, before that in "Preferences" I changed the settings to "Printing/Exporting: Output All Blacks as Rich Black". But when checked the conformity to PDF X3 the crop marks are showed as special color (so that I have a PDF with 2 colors).
I also checked with an Acrobat Plug-In, "Quite Revealing", and it shows also 2 colors, Black (which is OK) and Registration (and that is not not OK). It should show only "Black", which it does if I do not put crop marks, but I need the crop marks.

  • XML File for "Print Quote"

    Hi,
Since we'r doing a customization on the Seeded "Print Quote", Is there any possible way to retrieve the XML file (Source file) for the "Print Quote"?
    Thanks in advance,
    Muru

    Muru,
I too have the same requirement of customising the quote report.
Could you please let me know which approach u are taking, i mean customising the RDF report and its template or the xsl-fo template.
As far as I have understood from the docs, we can either customise the ASOPQTEL.rdf and its layout or customize the seeded xsl-fo ie, ASOPRINT.xsl.
Just an idea, probably you can run the ASOPQTEL.rdf and take the xml output.

  • How to get black text in Aperture for offset printing?

I have a lot of text in my Aperture Books.
60 pages is like 300USD plus from Apple store!
Offset printing for 1000 copies is 3 USD each (and I am happy with that lower quality).
This is what my printer says:
The files for offset print generally should be prepared slightly different
    then for digital printing.
    I'm talking about the text.
Each black text (on the cover, inside pages, numbers of pages) should be
prepared in one black colour. Now is separated on 4 colours. Of course we can print it as it is but I'm sure that the final effect will
be not good. The black letters will be "fuzzy".
Is it possible to change some settings? (I get the same in Pages when I create PDF:s)

    Hi, Stefan
I would suggest talking directly with the person you're going to deliver to and ask them exactly how they want it delivered, for example, fonts, pdf type... they usually have a spec sheet you deliver to and then pick the PDF from the print options in Aperture.
