InDesign question

How can I create a link between a rolling frame and a cover or pages of my magazine? I made a frame with an index of the pages of the magazine, but I can't make a link. The meaning is when I tap on the cover or a different page we to see the table of content and the top navigation bar and when I tap again It disappears. How can I do this in Indesign CC?
Kind regards, José Troullioud

Natalie,
You're going to have a hard time getting your questions answered in this forum. This forum is for programmers, and there aren't a lot of programmers who are InDesign experts.
There are a lot of sites that have message boards devoted to working with programs like InDesign. Some sites that come to mind include MacAddict, Macworld, MacNN, MacOSX.com, and MacOSXHints.com. You'll get your questions answered faster if you post your question at one of those sites.

  • CS5 Indesign question

I have a question about CS 5 Indesign, When I go to print a document, I cannot get the option for a certain line screen when the color is on composite.
When I have it on separation , I am able to put it on any line screen. I called the support line and no one was able to help me. Please if anyone knows how to fix this let me know. Thanks

An exact answer depends on the exact wording of your question.
"Are CS5 and CS6 files compatible with each other?" NO.
But a longer, and more accurate, answer is "They are, up to a certain point and with proper precautions."
    1. You cannot open a 6 file in '5 or earlier. To be able to, save your file as IDML -- that *can* be opened by earlier versions, at least one or two. (Saving back to a CS3 compatible format, for example, takes more effort and a working CS4.)
    2. When saving as IDML, the file ought to open exactly as it was with the original version. If there were any new features used in the file, they will be (silently!) ignored by older versions.
    3. Due to code changes, there might be a change in text flow. Nothing you can do about it, text is always reformatted according to the internal rules of the version you open it with.
    4. Older version files ought to open right away in a newer version. "Ought to", because the latger the difference in version, the larger chances *something* might fail. Apart from that, the text might also reflow, as per point 3.
So you see, the correct answer to "are they compatible. depends more on how much time you have to answer it.

  • Can you tell me how I can ask for help with the following Indesign question:  I am a new Indesign user and a Creative Cloud member.  I was using the Window/Pages drop down window to view my pages alphabetically or by page number and also to determine whet

I am a new Indesign user and a Creative Cloud member.  I was using the Window/Pages drop down window to view my pages alphabetically or by page number and also to determine whether or not my JPEG files were sufficiently HI-Res for the printer.  I don't know how I did it but somehow the window has changed so that now it does not have the alphabetical/numerical/Hi-Res information.  It just shows the pages in a two page spread in numerical order.  How can I restore the window so that I will be able to view the information as I did previously.
    Your help will be appreciated,
    Don Unwin

The pages panel is not the place where you see this information.  You can customize the Links panel to show all sorts of things, including the page number, effective and actual ppi, and whether the link is OK or needs updating.

  • Simple InDesign question / problem

    Hi,
I'm having a very simple / basic issue with InDesign. I'm still very new to the program, and I've been going through online lessons, etc. Anyhow, I have a document where I have a simple line, and then I copied and pasted the line and moved it slightly under the previous (identical) line. The issue I'm having is that once it's in a PDF format, the lines can vary size depending on what the zoom level is. Isn't there a way to make the two lines so that they are always identical?? Any help is much appreciated!!
    Trevor

You are faced with the constraints of rendering and resolution, with fine lines being the most noticable. A fine line viewed in Acrobat does not always mesh with the pixels of a monitor display, and therefore can look like it is 2 pixels in width, and other places look like it is 1 pixel in width.
There is nothing you can do from Indesign in exporting a PDF. You can change rendering preferences within Acrobat, smooth line art, enhance thin line, and custom resolution. But keep in mind that changing these preferences will only affect your computer, and not control the viewing experience of another computer.

  • CS 4 InDesign question

I am working with a 300 page document (CS4 InDesign) and it now contains 700 pages. I don't know how that happened. Is there a one click solution to removing them?

Delete from InDesign file or CSReview posting of the InDesign file? Many buttons do many things but I think this might be a "want-a-be."

  • InCopy/InDesign question

Can inDesign users edit InCopy-created stories that are laid out in InDesign (without an InCopy license)?

Hurry and buy CS5.5 now. You can work that with one exception. Remote packaging won’t work.
Dropbox is very good alternative to that. But again. HURRY! Come Monday CS5.5 won’t be available and nothing will work.
You should be eligible for a free upgrade to CS6 as well.

  • Indesign question: Master page items I remove won't stay gone

I'm working on laying out a book, with various chapters which are separate files. Naturally there's a master page with various guides I use a lot, as well as a fairly standard running header with page numbers and chapter and section names. As is standard practise, I want these to appear on nearly every page, but not on the first pages of chapters. (There are other times I might want to override this, but that's the main one.) So, I Ctrl-Shift-click and delete them when I set up a new chapter.
Problem is, they don't stay gone. Every so often, I open up a previous chapter and find that these elements are back on the first page of that chapter, and I delete them again. I've only been noticing this since I made the chapters in question into a book file so I could keep an eye on my page count and synch up styles more easily.
My best guess is that maybe it has something to do with the aforementioned synching. I do want those chapters to share the same master page(s) but do not want IDto keep reapplying elements from them to individual pages that I've already manually removed them from (sometimes more than once). How can I prevent this from happening? (Or alternatively, if this isn't the cause of the problem, what else could it be and how do I deal with that?)

Fair enough. Guess that's just as easy, if not slightly easier, than what I've been doing, and so far it seems to be working.

  • PDFing from InDesign question

I'm using InDesign CS3 and the prepress folks I send to have added a new wrinkle for me. I'm getting an error on their preflight software stating that there are lines too thin on my PDFs. Apparently there are ads on the pages that I am sending them that have lines smaller than .125 on them and they are being rejected. I can't seem to find a setting on the export in CS3 that will allow me to upsize any lines thinner than that. Does anyone know a trick to fixing this?
    Thanks in advance.

It's a bit of a weird preflight check IMHO but there's nothing Indesign can do about it anyway.  There is a tool in Acrobat Pro that might help, under Advanced > Print Production > Fix Hairlines.  I'm not really au fait with how it works or what it does though.

  • Acrobat and Indesign question

Can somebody show me how to find a highlighted text in acrobat via Bridge and search the highlighted text in InDesign?
    Is this possible?
    Best regards,
    Ferenc

    Hi Dave,
I thought that what Bridge for to be able to use both program isn't it?
I have a PDF file what I made from an InDesign file, what I send out via e-mail to my proofreader and than he highlight the incorrect text in Acrobat and writes the correct text into the note of the highlight. Than I want to insert this correction into the indesign document exactly where he marked in the PDF file.
    Thanks,
    Ferenc

  • DPS AND INDESIGN QUESTION

I am designing with Indesign CS6 AND WITH FOLIO TO BE VIEWED ON IPAD WITH ADOBE CONTENT VIEWER, WHEN DO I need digital publishing in this. Do i need to buy DPS seprately

ACV is Adobe Content Viewer. You can use it to preview folios you created with InDesign, and you can share that folio with other people. But if you want to create a custom app, you need to pay. For example, with a full subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, you can create an unlimited number of Single Edition apps. Single Edition apps include only one folio and they work only on the iPad. To create other types of apps that work on various platforms, you need either a DPS Pro or Enterprise subscription.

  • EXPORTING an interactive PDf in Indesign question...

I'm exporting from ID 5 to an interactive PDF. I've got swfs in there, & rollovers, that are not meant to be seen on the initial page. They export fine in the final PDF, but the problem is, when the PDF initially opens, these rollovers all 'blip' on the screen for a second before vanishing to their proper opening state. Can anybody help me w/ this? I've even selected the "Hide Until Animated" feature on these rollovers, but this doesn't help.
    HELP!

Also, I've made sure they aren't set the events to "On Rollover," NOT "On Page Load."

  • Indesign Questions

How can I fit body type into a slanted box, like a parallelogram, proportionantly? So that the lines of type run parallel with the top and bottom slanted borders of the text box.

Is this the result you are referring to?
Place type tool inside box, select all, then justify with last line left./Justify all lines.
You can also right click to get text frame options these will help too.

  • I can't open PDF files in InDesign CS5

    Hi all,
I can't seem to open any PDF files of any version while using InDesign CS5...
I'm currently running InDesign in Windows 7 Professional x32bit...
    This message keeps popping up:
Cannot open the file "TIG_Sheet_and_Application.pdf". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
I've made sure that the file was not open in any application, and its not just this particular pdf files... all PDF files can't be opened. The only thing that actually opens in InDesign are the indd files...
I try going through the plug-in list, but there's a bunch and I'm not sure which one is it...
Tried google search for a solution but found no solution...
    Can anyone help me?
    Cheers,

krystlew, and others reading this thread and considering the answers "snarky" or "not helpful": note that this is the InDesign SDK forum -- that is, a question posted here should be about programming for InDesign:
    About this Forum
The InDesign SDK forum is for discussions on InDesign plugin development using the InDesign SDK. InDesign plugins are developed in C++.
Presumably, you found this discussion because the error message lead you here: that you cannot "open" a PDF. That's InDesign's usual message for all content that it cannot 'open' with the command "File > Open..."; try for example with a Word document, a JPEG image, or an Excel spreadsheet. InDesign is perfectly able to import these files -- but you cannot use "File > Open...". You must use the command "File > Place..." instead. "Placing a PDF" is described in the online Help: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/placing-graphics.html
It is a regular User Interface question and so unrelated to what this forum is for. General InDesign questions can be asked in the regular user forum: https://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign/content
I believe that the original question was posted in error in this forum and thus got interpreted as "what do I need to code to natively open PDFs". The answer is: lots. InDesign does not provide anything to natively read a PDF, so you would have to program literally everything.
(Some of the other posts ask why InDesign cannot already do this -- and the answer is, "Because It Is Incredibly Hard". The counterargument I usually give is that InDesign can also import (place) and export JPEG images and yet it is not a JPEG Editor. I can provide technical arguments as well. One is, there are lots of ways to construct PDFs in such a way that important content information is lost -- even something as basic as "what text is actually here".
... So, kudo's to Markzware for making it possible anyway! If you found this post because you need to convert a PDF file to a native, editable InDesign document, try their software.)

  • InDesign CS6 8.0.2

I've moved your question to the InDesign forum, a better place to answer InDesign questions.
I would try restoring your InDesign preferences. Here's how:
