InDesign repeatedly freezing up

My InDesign keeps freezing up. Sometimes it's immediately upon opening a document. Sometimes I get to do two or three things, and then it freezes up. I've restarted InDesign, restarted the whole computer. I also did the "preferences" fix, but no go. (Though it was after the "preferences fix" that I got to do anything at all -- i.e., it didn't freeze immediately on opening a document, but just after carrying out one or two activities.)

Details: OS X 10.8.2. 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5. InDesign CS 5.5 (when I cleared my Preferences, I noticed it said "7.5" for the folder name.)

Well, as you may know, that didn't work. I next uninstalled and then reinstalled InDesign. That didn't work.
At this point, I had been holding for three hours at Adobe phone support, and someone finally answered. They told me that CS5.5 is incompatible with the new Apple operating system. Wow. I cannot believe I had to spend seven hours struggling with this issue, jumping through every hoop imaginable, including three hours on phone hold with Adobe, to discover something that should have been shared with Adobe product users BEFORE those users opted to install that new system.
I installed the trial version of InDesign CS6 and that indeed does appear to have resolved the issue. This is no way for Adobe (or Apple, for that matter) to conduct business -- basically using me as an unwitting tester of their programs. And, incredibly, Adobe wanted to CHARGE me for the phone call. Unbelievable.
I still appreciate your help, Peter, but what a disfunctional system. Unbelievable.

Illustrator, Potoshop and InDesign repeatedly freezing

I am working in Mac OS 10.7.5 and CS5 applications are freezing constantly. I have to force quit them. They freeze randomly while I am working in them and if I ever leave them running and come back later to work then they are almost always frozen. Is this a known issue or what does anyone suggest I try to do?

Since you have 3 programs all freezing you must have something in common that is causing the problem. What does each use?
Do you have enough memory? What about hard drive space? Do you have 10-20 percent free? For a 500 gig drive that is 50-100 gigs free.

Could ths be causing repeated freezes?

The computer in question is a G4 MDD 1.25GHZ model with a single processor. It has 768MB of RAM and is running OS 9.2.2. The user is mainly working in Quark 4.1.1, Photoshop 6, Acrobat 5.0 (Distiller) and some Illustrator.
About a month ago this computer started freezing. It would freeze during start up. It would freeze in any of the above-mentioned programs. I'd start it up in OS 10.3.9 and it would freeze. I decided to do a complete reinstall, and encountered freezes while installing 10.3.9.
I purchased a new hard drive, got the OS installed and it started freezing again. I swapped RAM with another 1.25 and it still froze.
I tried to start it from a CD recently and it wouldn't recognize any CD. And then I remembered ... I had pulled the DVD burner from this model and exchanged for a CD burner in a Quicksilver G4. Thus, the Quicksilver had the MDD's DVD burner, and the MDD had the Quicksilver's CD burner.
I unplugged the CD burner in the MDD and it didn't freeze all of yesterday or overnight. And it's still running.
Both optical drives are set for cable select. Is there something about the Quicksilver's optical drive that may be causing the repeated freezes?

Since there's only one optical drive in each Mac, I
presume I'd set the jumper for Master?
Yes. And the drive should be connected to the connector on the end of the cable, not the one in the middle.
Verify the cables are fully seated (including the power connection) at both the motherboard and the drive. Make sure the cable isn't pinched when you close the case, cut, or otherwise damaged. (I've done that, grounded out the cable on the frame..nothing worked)
I haven't tried the hardware test CD in part because
the DVD-ROM in the Mac in question won't recognize
disks. This problem just cropped up and is what got
me to thinking if the optical drive was the problem.
If the drive worked in the other machine, it should work in this one.
Thats why I'm more inclined to think cables of jumpers as opposed to hardware.
As stated, I've done that swap before w/o issue. I've also pulled an ancient 4x CDR from an old Windows box and put it in a QS machine w/o a problem.

INDESIGN cs6 freeze if I am connected to projector or LCD

I have Mac 10.9.5 connected to a projector and LCD ..My problem is that indesign cs6 freeze some time when I am connected to my projector or the LCD but If I disconnected it open normally

InDesign CS5 Freezes when opening up a new document.

Hi there. I've been having problems for well over five days to a week now with InDesign CS5.
Both Photoshop and Illustrator work perfectly without any issues. But my InDesign will freeze every time I try to open any file. Or if I try to create a new document. If I don't try to open a file or make a new document, I can customize pallets, and edit other parts of the InDesign. It will then freeze up if I try to open up a new file document, or even when trying to open a document onto InDesign. Since the Deadly Beachball (loading cursor) comes up, I have to manually force quit it.
I've reinstalled the InDesign CS5 three times - all came out as the same outcome.
Adobe Support Advisor has not detected any problems with InDesign when I must force quit it.
I've updated all CS5 with the Application Manager.
Downloading CS.5 off the website and as well as Download Assistant has "failed to initalize" when trying to install it.
Is there any reason why InDesign continuously freezes every time I try to open it? Help would be nice.

Try removing your auto-activation plugins for font management, Extensis Suitcase Fusion seems to be generating a lot of this stuff.
If that's not it, well, instead of force quit, run Activity Monitor and garner:
1: Sample Process. Save to file
2. View > Send Signal: Abort (SIGABRT). This will force a crash and crash report.

I'll look at them and tell you the cause of the crash (probably).

InDesign that freezes and/or dyes

Hi everyone - I have been waiting in the technical support telephone line in 1 hour and 08 minutes now - was just hoping that any of you might know what to do with an InDesign that freezes and/or dyes when opening a document (Have googles and tried many things - deleting InDesign recovery files, fonts etc.) any suggestions?

Hi again Peter :-) I have no such directory on my computer (Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences) I have this though = C:\Users\ula\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en_GB (InDesign Defaults) and C:\Users\ula\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en_GB\Caches (SavedData) I'm not sure what to do with this info.
Anyway - today the program worked and only died about 6-8 times in 8 hours :-) and not like the other day where I couldn't use it at all.

Indesign CS4 freezes when I export to InCopy CS4 or when I update an InCopy File

Indesign CS4 freezes when I export to InCopy or when I update an InCopy CS4 File. I have done some of the troubleshooting steps already and have already re-installed and re-updated through Adobe Updater. But the problem still exists. Anyone have any patches or fixes? Or have had the same issue and fixed it?

Indesign CC freezes and maxes out memory usage in Windows 7

I'm having a problem where Indesign will freeze and when I check on it in Task Manager I can see the memory usage climbing until it's using all free memory. I have to kill the task to get it to stop. I have 8GB and it maxed out at 6.5gb this morning. I'm on Windows 7 Pro and am using the 64-bit version of Indesign with the most recent update.

The document I'm working on now is only about 35 pages with 1-3 images per page, nothing too crazy. I don't have any extra plugins from what I recall - how do I check?
I'm using Photoshop and sometimes Illustrator at the same time, but have plenty of free memory until ID goes nuts.

Itunes is repeatedly freezing, what can be done to fix?

iTunes is repeatedly freezing (requiring a forced quit).. latest software (mountain lion and itunes both). Not immediately but after a period of some time - time enough to play a song or two or more, but without fail the application locks up - if a song is playing the pizza wheel displays, the song plays to the end but does not go to the next).

Do you have Match and How much memory do you have?
On my old imac with latest software and 2mg ram, I often ran out of RAM but after 5 minutes every thing worked fine - some back ground process clogging up processing power!!
If you are trying to do searches, go to search box and untick search entire library.

Indesign CS6 freezes importing images. OS 10.6

"Trying" Indesign CS6 freezes importing images -- JPG or EPS. Every single time. Using OS 10.6 with MacBook Pro. Complete reformatted drive and fresh OS install. Might reinstall CS5, but I'd like to move up not down.

Just 10.6. I need to run the OS updates tonight.

PSE 11 repeatedly freezes during importing into Organizer. Sometimes it's the same photo, but it imports the photo when I import it in a smaller batch. I really don't want to import photos in small batches. That's crazy!

InDesign CC freezes when packaging files. Just spinning beachball. Need to Force Quit. Tried resetting Prefs at startup (holding down keys), but no change. Looking for path to Default and Data files, but not finding them in Library. (D'oh!) Downloaded most recent CC versionlast night. Any ideas or should I try CC (2014)

I would certainly give CC2014 a try.
Other than that, make sure there’s no illegal characters like slashes in the file or folder names and that the path is not too long.

Indesign CS5 freezing

Help!
I have a intel core imac with 4GB of ram and plenty of hard drive space, and I just upgraded my operating system to 10.6.4. At the same time I also installed CS5 standard suite on the computer as my company is making the switch from quark to indesign for its publication design. Anyways, I can run photoshop and illustrator with no problems - InDesign however refuses to let me work on any document. I can open the application, specify that I want a new document and within seconds of opening a document InDesign will freeze. Before opening the document I can open the various menu bar options and change default fonts or preferences but once I open a document it freezes. I've spent an entire day trying to fix this by reading various posts and can tell you that I've done the following:
• Deleted and restored all the preferences.
• Changed the default font option.
• Uninstalled and reinstalled.
• Checked permissions and added myself (as recommended) with read and write permissions.
This is also a mutli-volume serial number upgrade with plans that I should be doing this upgrade to all the computers in our department. I can't afford to try this on another computer and see if it magically works for them and not for me. Any suggestions?

However, I'm not on Snow Leopard. I'm still on Leopard.
My machine is a MacBook Pro 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX 10.5.8, with 8 GB RAM. 500 GB HD with over 100 GB available.
I placed a post this morning describing my problem in detail but have received no response.
Have you found a solution? If so, please post. I've run out of ideas and don't know what my next step should be.

My iPhone 4S repeatedly freezes or restarts after upgrading to iOS 6

After my sleep button failed on my iPhone 4S running iOS 5, the Genius at the Genius Bar gave me a brand new iPhone 4S running iOS 6. Since then, I have experienced repeated freezes or spontaneous restarts - either I'll try to wake the phone from sleep, and it will not wake up, and I'll have to restart it manually, or I'll look over at my phone and see the Apple logo like it restarted on its own. Have other people experienced this in iOS 6, and if so, what's causing it?

Perhaps. I'm going to take it back to the Genius Bar where I got it and talk to them about it. Maybe it's a software issue (since I was using iOS 5 on the previous phone and am using iOS 6 on this one), and maybe there's a simpler fix than replacing the phone again, but if they think it's a hardware issue, then I'll get another replacement.

InDesign CS3 freezes in startup on "SING Gaiji"

I can't find and easy solution to this. I am running InDesign no problem on my User account. I set up another User for someone else and InDesign will freeze on startup on the "Initializing SING Gaiji" something or other.
I go back to my profile and it's works still. Solutions?

The problem permissions are on the folder (and its contents) in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/SING/
The easiest (though possibly not most secure) solution is to set the permissions to Read/Write for everyone on the entire folder /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ and its contents.
