InDesign to HTML

Hello,
I have the CS5 suite and I'm trying to turn either a inDesign page or pdf page into a HTML page which I can then use for an email shot. Can't for the life of me see how I can do this?
Can anyone help?
Much appreciated.

  • Why is InDesign exporting HTML instead of PDF?

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to InDesign CC 2014.  My first project that I created is being exported as a HTML link and not the actual PDF file.
Is it something I'm doing wrong?  Also, none of my saved file icons are showing with the InDesign file icon.  I've linked them with InDesign, however when I click on them they do not open and I get an error.  Is it possible this has something to do with it?
This is incredibly frustrating as I need to this project printed.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

So, looks like I figured it out.  The file associations is what did it.  For some reason it was it was using Firefox to view the PDF.  I wondered if it was doing due to some update with Acrobat.
So I reinstalled Acrobat.  I saw that when I exported the file the extension changed from .html to .pdf.
So then I right clicked on the icon>properties and it let me change the associated program to Acrobat instead of Firefox.
I'm not sure if that is what needed to happen, but it appears (at least for the moment) that everything is fixed.  I'm going to go tomorrow to see if I can get it printed.  Hopefully everything will have exported correctly.

  • Is it possible to convert InDesign to html?

A client of mine want to convert an existing design—all finished in InDesign, into an html file. I know there is an expot function, but all it does it grab the text and images—but not the design or the layout. I guess what I am looking for is to conver the page the way a pdf would—hold the design and layout, but saved as a pdf. I want to hold the design and layout but saved as an html.
Possible or do I need to recreate the item in GoLive, Dreamweaver or other software?

Can't be done easily and for the most part shouldn't be. Print layouts are far different than web layouts. If they want an exact duplicate then post a PDF.

  • InDesign CS6 -html export crashes

I do a 60-page magazine every month.  Using CS5.5 I would export to HTML to provide the web team with the correct files to build their web pages in Word Press.  When I tried to do this in CS6, the output created multiple empty folders and the program crashed.
Additionally, I am looking for the best way to export the information for the web.  A little research has pointed me toward using XML export which would produce tags usable by Word Press, once I have programmed them into InDesign.
Any help on these topics would be appreciated.

I understand that the information about your issue may not be there.
This forum is for Creative Cloud issues. Some InDesign users may read your post here and be able to offer help. But the folks in the InDesign forum are InDesign users. Also Adobe employees who work on InDesign and employees in customer support who know InDesign read the forum and can jump in to help.
So I am not dissuading you from posting here, you just may not receive the help you want.

  • InDesign Export HTML Book

Is it possible to EXPORT to HTML all files within a book as one html file?

Yikes! Sounds like a thorny workflow.
Is there some material reason why you need to present a single contiguous document to the copy desk? A series of numbered files wouldn't work?
Is there some reason why you want the copy desk to get HTML instead of, say, RTF?
It is too much of a heavy lift to try to keep the word docs up to date with editors constantly editing, designers editing, etc. Copy desk works in word.
Look into WordsFlow by Em Software.
If I absolutely had to merge all of the Word files for a given book into a single document, I'd use a VBA to do that in Word, and allow InDesign to spit out its default one-exported=document-per-InDesign-story.
Also, instead of using the Book feature, I'd suggest that you look into placing your designers' pages as INDDs into another InDesign file.

  • Export indesign with html animation

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to include or link an html animation I've realised with Edge in an Indesign presentation.
I tried to create a button that links to the html file, and export it as an interactive pdf, but then it will work on my pc only..... do you know how I can solve this issue?
Ideally I'd like to see the animation within the pdf (now it will open in the browser), but most importantly I need to be able to share the whole package!
Any solution will be really welcome!
    Many thanks
    M.

Your best bet would be to host the file on a web server and link to it there. If you don't have access to such space, free hosting isn't that hard to find. Google "free file hosting."

  • CS6 Indesign to HTML

Currently using the above version of InDesign. Our small business has a newsletter done monthly in Indesign. We have the ability to use the newsletter in HTML. However, I loose all formatting, and images. I am an average user. If we can figure this out it will enhance our marketing campaign.

  • Open in same window and clean cache from swf + html file generate with InDesign CS5

    Hi,
    1)
I have a Indesign web file exported to swf + html.
In my document I have a button that point to url (this url is html file of a second Indesign swf + html).
When I click on button, the url was find an open in another window.
Is it possible to open this second url in the same window?
    If yes How.
I think this information is in the swf file and not in html.(How modify the swf code?)
    2)
How to clean the cache when you reload the url? (in the html generate file)
I'will very please if somebody of you could help me. it's Important for me.
    Regards
    Philippe

Okay, I found the code but I can't get it to work locally.  If you have a web server maybe you can upload the files (swf and html) after you Publish them:
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    var myURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("http://www.google.com");
    testlink.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickText);
    function clickText(myevent:MouseEvent):void {
    navigateToURL(myURL, "_self");
you have to have on the stage a link element called "testlink" (see the code above) which would be a Movie Clip with the label testlink.  It can be anything from InDesign:  a button, a rectangle, a circle, a graphic, you get the idea.  Just select that object in Flash and label it testlink or anything you choose but if you change the name from testlink also change the name in the code snippet where the line "addEventListener" is.

  • New to inDesign - looking for help with creating booklets

Looking for a tutorial/answer on how to set up my book so that the pages can be printed, folded in half (like a brochure/magazine) so that I can bind the pages myself in a book.   Not sure if my page size would be what I want the finished book size to be or if I need to double the page width setup size, because I will be folding them in half to put the book together.  I know there must be a magic button as well that will sort the pages and keep them in the right order, once I fold them.   Does this make sense to anyone?

  • Is it possible to leverage InDesign Server templates in a custom web app?

    Hi there,
I am building a custom web app and was hoping to leverage our existing InDesign Server templates within our web app. What I would like to do, is based on user input, show my template with the user's input in the browser. I have looked through the API guides for InDesign Server CS6, but I haven't been able to conclusively find anything that will allow me to use the APIs to call the server, send the data points the template requires, and then get an image back from the server.
I believe this is possible, I am just not sure how to achieve it! Any ideas or articles that help push me in the right direction would be extremely helpful!
    Thank you!
    Marshall

Yes it's completely possible. There are two parts to making something like this work:
    1. The scripts themselves. You can generally script InDesign Server and desktop InDesign exactly the way using ExtendScript. So that's the part of the process where your script receives variables and passes them into the template and replaces something you've identified as variable, whether text or an image or something else (perhaps a color theme, etc.). You should get your scripts running on desktop before playing around with server.
    2. The messaging between your web app and the server. Whatever language you are using (i.e. PHP, .Net, Java, Ruby…) there is a way to make a SOAP call to InDesign Server to tell it basically "run this script with these parameters". You should get the "hello world" script running from a SOAP call on the server before using your real variable-driven document.
The documentation of these things is available here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/indesign/sdk.html
You need to download the InDesign Server SDK (don't worry if you're on CC and it says CS6, almost nothing changed) and the InDesign Scripting SDK. The Server SDK deals with part #2 above, the Scripting SDK with part #1.
It really isn't that hard. I should warn you, though, that it is addictive and once you do your first one you will become all-powerful and want to do nothing else. :-)
Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions.

  • How can I export a stylesheet (either CSS or XSLT) with XML from indesign?

    Hi,
I am using indesign CS4. I want to export style sheet whether it is CSS or XSLT file with xml.
I try to get it but can't.
Also the XML i am exporting does not styles that has been applied by me while creating the file in Indesign.
Please help me out by telling me the way how can i get a stylesheet and also how can I embed that style sheet with XML so that my XML file looks similiar to the indesign file.
    Thanks,
    Choudhary Nafees Ahmed

I am using indesign CS4. I want to export style sheet whether it is CSS or XSLT file with xml.
CSS is not an XML style sheet, it's an HTML style sheet. "Export to HTML" will export an empty stylesheet for the paragraph and character styles. ID cannot convert its (very advanced) typographic capabilities to the (very limited) CSS notation, and thus it defaults to exporting the names only.
XSLT is not an XML style sheet either; it's a transformation format (http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt).
I try to get it but can't.
Also the XML i am exporting does not styles that has been applied by me while creating the file in Indesign.
XML Export does not export anything except the items you tagged with the Auto-tag feature, or you tagged yourself. If you need your styles tagged, use Map Styles to Tags (http://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/indesign/mapping.html).
XML has almost nothing to do with styling -- ideally, XML describes document structure while styles describe formatting.

  • Indesign CS6 Very slow - cross-references?

    Dear All,
I have been struggeling with this for over 2 days now..
I've treid the following solutions on the Adobe website
    http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/slow-performance-indesign-cs5.html
    and http://indesignsecrets.com/why-is-indesign-soooo-slow.php
It does not seem to work.
My document is around 40 pages, with some images (around 20), but it has a lot of cross references to a table in the same document.
I have untreaded a lot of information. Currently only 10 pages maximum is threaded.
My pc has 8 gb ram, 2.5 Ghz and around 40 GB free HD space.
I think it might be my cross references, but I don't know how to fix it..
I don't want it to be removed out of the table (because i need my references sorted on alhabatical order).
    Hope you guys can help
    Thanks,
    Daan

@Daan – I do not much with cross references, but several users here and in other forums report performance issues when working with cross references.
There is a 3rd party solution by DTP Tools:
    http://www.dtptools.com/product.asp?id=crin
You could test a trial version.
(And report back here how fast it is :-) )

  • Exporting Indesign book to single page PDFs

    Hi,
I'm after a script that will enable me to select an entire Indesign book and export it as separate individual PDFs in one go.
I know there are a few scripts that either export the book into chapters or export the .indd files to separate single PDFs, but nothing that will do everything in one action. (i.e. take the book and output all the individual pages as single PDFs)
Has anyone written a script like this or is it easy to tweak an existing script?
BTW I have no scripting knowlege whatsoever.
    Thank you again
    Scott
These are the two scripts I was refering to:
    http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/pdf_individuals.html
    http://indesignsecrets.com/page-exporter-utility-peu-5-script-updated-for-cs3.php

RichardM0701, are you the same person as scottbentley?
I fear your response doesn't make a lot of sense. The easiest way is to put your files into a book, which will not harm them. The easiest script is often no script at all.
I don't understand your comment about separate text boxes, files contain text boxes and definitionally multiple files means multiple separate text boxes.
I do not know what you are referring to with respect to the toc update, perhaps you could reference a particular command or script, or provide a screenshot.
It sounds like now you are interested in updating multiple tables of contents in a single fell swoop -- this would appear to have nothing to do with the original question. If that's the case, please start a new thread.

  • Indesign CS6 export images and text

    Hi there,
I am looking for a way to batch export from Indesign files (with Incopy shared stories), text as RTF and formated images (cropped to the frames they are in) excluding bleed where full page is used. The RTF should retain "bold" and "italic". For images, I need to change the settings (colour management, size, pixels, resolution, file format, file name convention. Some examples of interfaces of some scripts I really love to use are down bellow:
I believe a script that will have a combined interface features as the screen-shots attached would be so awsome for so many Indesign users.
    Thanks

First, I appologize for being so vague in my post.
@stephen0218. The extended feature I am looking for I would call it Indesign Export Extended, where this would give you way more options than it does now, to export elements, text, images, pages, selections etc.
@[Jongware] They are 2 scripts (not plug-ins): first image is, as Vamitul mentioned, a screen-shot of Russle Brown's script for Image Processor in Photoshop. Tottaly agree, darn fantastic scripting work there.
The next two, are screen-shots of batch-process script that Peter Kahrel wrote. The greatest Indesing script I found. Not to mention it's free too. You can still feel free to donate on his website:http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/batch_convert.html.
For an upcoming project, my need will be to be able to batch export from Indesing, the text as RTF and formated images (cropped as in Indesign) to a certain location.
For text, I have to mention that the all the stories are shaded with Incopy users. So basically, Peter's script does this except, if text is part of an Incopy assignement, won't be able to check-out that story and grab it.
For images, I need to export all the cropped images, with their original colour space, file name and size in pixels.
This is the basic for what I need. Than I though that combining these 2 requirements, with the features and interface of the screen-shots above will be a huge asset for any Indesign user:
    - setting up the source location
    - destination folder
    - target format/file type
    - separate export options for each file format (for instance for images export: file format, compression, colour management, resize to fit, don't enlarge, file naming option etc).
    I hope this makes sense.
