InDesign to Pages

Is there any way to open an InDesign document in Pages other than as a PDF (and be able to work on it)!?

Try exporting the Indesign document as an .rtf or .doc file.
Obviously it will lose much of its formatting and require work.
Otherwise it is a copy and paste job.

btw Don't think that Pages is a substitute for Indesign because it is not.

I need a way to place multiple pages from an InDesign document in much the same way as the sample PlaceMulitpagePDF.jsx does but with InDesign documents rather than PDFs.
The following is the critical line where the PDF page number to import is set:
app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = myCounter;
What is the equivalent command for setting the InDesign document page number when choosing a page to import?
I have tried using:
Application.ImportedPageAttribute.pageNumber
but without result.

I am embarassed to say that my problem was a couple of typos, (reading the Zanelli script made that obvious to me). The command should have been:
app.importedPageAttributes.pageNumber
Note the lowercase "i" on "imported" and the "s" after "Attribute."

Hello, I am trying to place a file typed in Japanese in to an Indesign CS2 page. The original text is a Microsoft Word file.
When it is saved as a .pdf, I am not able to do anything with it. I use a MAC running on Tiger 10.4.11.
I need it for an insert in a CD.
Any help on this?

Ah -- you are placing the PDF, right? Use the Word file instead. A PDF file is not a text file, so you get it as an image.

I have all scanned pages, but the kindle format offered on the Indesign options is bigger. What should I do? Do I start a book from scratch with the scanned pictures or do I leave the pages with the white space on them with the kindle option of Indesign.

For your situation, you could try using alternatives like PDF4Kindle, Calibre, or Papercrop. But based on what I've read and my quick experiment, depending on the complexity of your PDF, it may be more effort than it's worth to try to convert a PDF into a legible Kindle, ePub, or any other e-reader file.
I did a quick test on Calibre with a 16-page PDF that contained multiple columns and images. The results were illegible! It ran the lines from each column together, making the text difficult to comprehend. Calibre explains why PDFs are difficult to convert -- Ebook Conversion — calibre User Manual. I have not tried the other two applications that I suggested above, but I would assume that the results would be very similar.
I don't know what kind of results you got when you converted it in InDesign, but if your first test turned out fine and it was just the size of the file that you are concerned about, you could use Acrobat to reduce your PDF's file size and convert it to the Kindle format in InDesign again.

InDesign CS4 page numbering not displaying correctly in Pages Panel

Hello,
I searched the forums for a solution to my problem before posting. I am sorry if I'm doubling someone's question but here I go:
I noticed this problem I have about 6 month ago. When I create a simple document with automatic page numbering everything is fine. When I try and create a section (i.e. I want my numbering to start at 1 at page 3) it actually works however in the Pages Panel the pages are displayed with their basic numbers. You will agree this is rather confusing. I've tryed different files, same files on different computers and so on. The problem has to do with my installation of InDesign CS4 and I suppose it's some kind of a display option I accidentally turned on.
Could someone please suggest a solution? Thank you!

Indesign, office, pages won't open "bad access" HELP!!

Last night I launched Indesign and it crashed. Now office and even pages are giving me the same problem, all when I try to launch them.
I've deleted some plists, repaired permissions etc.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can try next, I need to get this running today....

Saving InDesign booklet pages to different pdf files

I created an 8-page booklet in InDesign (layout, letter-half). I'd like to save the project to two different pdf files: one pdf for pages 1, 2, 7 and 8, to be printed on a color printer, and one pdf for pages 3,4,5, and 6 to be printed in black and white. Printing would be two-sided 1 & 8, 2 & 7, and so on. When I converted the .indd file to pdf, I could not determine how to save these specific page ranges. Help?

I am in Adobe, under the Extract options. What do I specify. Right now it says:
FROM Spread 1 of 4 - Pages(8, 1) TO Spread 1 of 4 - Pages(8, 1) OF 4
What do I type in for this to be 1 & 8 plus 2 & 7 (which would then be printed out double-sided) and 3 & 6 plus 4 & 5 (also double-sided printing).
As a back-up with manual double-sided printing, I'd also like to create 1 & 8, 2 & 7, 3 & 6, and 4 & 5 as separate pdf files.
I checked off "extract pages as separate files"

Error encountered when scrolling over particular InDesign CS2 page, causes file to crash

I am working on a 36.6 MB InDesign file with 134 pages. There is at least one photo on each page. Most of the photos are linked in to a server.
When I scroll to page 93, I always get an error message and the option to debug. But the debug always fails and InDesign closes.
I have updated my InDesign CS2 to 4.0, but have had no luck.
Here is the error signature:
AppName: indesign.exe AppVer: 4.0.5.688 ModName: master page.rpln
ModVer: 4.0.5.688 Offset: 000053b6
Please, please help.

Is page 93 based on a different master from the others?
I think this could be caused by either a bad graphic or a bad font on the page.
I also remember, vaguely, something about closing the links palette and or Navigator might help, as probably, would moving the links to your hard drive.

Indesign Move Pages

When using the Move Pages to move from Document A to B and before closing B are the images still linked to the Document A folder or do they assume the linkage to the same graphic name in the Document B folder.

You could try resetting preferences: Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences

InDesign Autoflow/Page Script

First off, I'm fairly new to scripting and InDesign all together. I am trying to edit a CS2 VBScript that extracts the page number/part number from tables on multiple pages. The tables can span from 1 to 20 pages. The problem I'm running into is the larger tables that autoflow and span the multiple pages show the original/starting page number for all the parts.
So my question is there a way to have Autoflow check for Page Breaks in the Tables? Hopefully I'm making sense. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Indesign CS4 Pages pane centering problem

Dear all,
I have a problem with my Pages pane. Instead of centering the pages previews they are now placed to the far right side of the screen. This means that i need to enlarge the pages pane to 4/5th of the screen to be able to view the pages.
See picture...
If i try to make the pane smaller the pages are going out of view to the right side.
If i deactivate the "facing pages" option in (CTRL+ALT+P) then the pages are positioned to the far left side.
Is this a setting that changed somewhere, and how to make them centered again?
Or is this a bug?

Adding movies to Indesign automated page-curl swf export

I know there have been several discussions on this, but I thought I would ask the question anyway.
I have a magazine created in InDesign, I can add hyperlinks to pages and websites and export it as a nice swf file with a page curl transition. The problem seems to be when anyone wants to edit the Flash file (.xfl), they loose the nice smooth page curl transition, is there no way this can be moved to Flash easily (bear in mind my knowledge of Action script is limited).
Any help would be much appreciated.

See this Help topic. From InDesign CS4, you have two ways to create Flash files -- SWF and XFL. If you export to SWF, you can include page curls, hyperlinks, transitions, and navigation buttons. If you export to XFL, you lose any button, hyperlink, or transition you've added in InDesign, and you use Flash Pro to add those things along with fancier animation effects. If you export to SWF, you can't edit the file. If you export to XFL, you have to know Flash Pro well enough to edit the file.
