Indesign Upgrade from Pagemaker

Hello I recently purchased a upgrade to InDesign CS 5.5.  I own Pagemaker 6.5, but that is not one of the options to upgrade from in the drop down menu.
It should be an option to upgrade from correct?  Indesign CS 3 4 & 5 appear in the drop down for software to upgrade from.  Is there any reason why Pagemaker does not appear as an option to upgrade from?

Upgarde to Indesign cs5.5 from pagemaker 6.5 is valid.....you are facing this issue because when you purchased the product you chose the upgarde from the previous Indesign vesion rather then chossing it from Pagemaker , or you might have missed this option .
You need to contact Adobe support to sort it out as it is a valid upgarde it just that you choose the wrong upgarde path..which is not the majot problem.

  • Installing InDesign CS4 upgrade from Pagemaker 7.0

I have purchased InDesign CS4 upgrade from Pagemaker 7.0.  I have also purchased a new computer on which I have installed it. When I run
CS4 it offers me a trial version or enter a serial number.  I entered my PM7 serial number but that doesn't work.  Do I need to
have PM7 installed before I install CS4 for this to all work?  If so, do I now need to uninstall CS4, install PM7, reinstall CS4 and then uninstall PM7 after it all works??  When I've used an upgrade before it hasn't need the actual files to be on the PC just the serial number.  Running Windows XP Professional. Adobe support didn't help at all!!

I think you may need to call customer service. There have been a number of reports of trouble installing the PM to ID upgrades, often due to odd serial numbers carried forward from earlier PM installations.
That said, I think the first time you are asked for a serial number it is probably the number of the CS4 upgrade that you need (since the other option is as a trial). Presumably you have that number becasue you paid for the license. After that I would expect the installer to look for PM or ask for the disk or serial number. Having the PM disk will probably help.

  • Upgrade from PageMaker to InDesign. What version is best and will old serial number work?

I'd like to upgrade from PageMaker 6.5 to InDesign. Should I wait for InDesign C S5. Will InDesign C S5 support PageMaker? Or should I upgrade to InDesign C S4? And if I have an old serial number for PageMaker 6.5, how can I complete the upgrade? I understand the older PageMaker serial numbers are no longer recognized.

I understand that Adobe is already selling InDesign CS5 and therefore you would have no choice if you want to upgrade. I would think that the easiest way of finding if your PM serial number applies for an upgrade is to try buying an upgrade. You don't need to complete the purchase if you don't want to.

  • InDesign upgrade from CS3

I bought an InDesign upgrade from a major UK supplier with part number 65161132. Of the two InDesign upgrades available this is the expensive option. It is sold as the "InDesign CS3/CS4/CS5 upgrade."
I bought it on Jan 1st and finally got it today as although it was shown as in stock when I ordered it I then had to wait as it was out of stock and had to be fulfilled direct from Adobe UK.
On looking at the box I was dismayed to see it's only for Adobe CS5 users. I spent 90 minutes dealing with a clueless Adobe representative (via online chat) who struggled to understand English and it transpired that there was a cut-off of 31st Dec for older users - one day before my purchase and as such I was unable to use the upgrade.
I have been a user since version 1.5 - almost thirteen years of using licensed InDesign programs and I this is the treatment I get. Who do I complain to at Adobe?

I  replied to your email two days ago and accepted your solution. You stated that a rep would call me and I gave you my number and contact details. Nobody has called and I chased yesterday and still I have heard nothing. Last night I got an email from Adobe asking for feedback on my customer experience - and it was in Spanish .
When is anyone of your sales reps actually going to call me?

  • Upgrade to Indesign CS4 from Pagemaker

I have a Windows PC with Pagemaker 6.5 installed, which is listed as an eligible product to upgrade to Indesign CS4. However, on installation the only options presented for upgrade are CS, CS2, and CS3. What steps do I need to take to complete the installation as an upgrade to Pagemaker?
    Thank you

You bought the wrong upgrade. Call Adobe and see if they can help.

  • How to install InDesign upgrade over PageMaker upgrade

Perhaps I'm the only one in the world with this problem (so I've been told by customer support) but here goes...
I purchased PageMaker version 5 back around 1997. Since then, I purchased several upgrades so that I'm now at PM version 6.5. I just purchased InDesign CS4 as an upgrade to PageMaker. However, I can't get it to install because my PM 6.5 is an upgrade. If you are familiar with the PageMaker upgrade process, the upgrade searches the machine for an earlier version and uses its serial number. The serial number my PM 6.5 is displaying is the original version 5 serial number. There is no new serial number in the box for the PM 6.5 upgrade.
Calling customer care has been a total waste of time because:
    1) Language barrier
    2) Even though I'm staring at the PM 6.5 "About" screen and reading them the serial number, they insist I don't have version 6.5 - just one step short of calling me stupid or a liar.
    3) They need my e-mail address from 11 years ago to confirm registration of PageMaker. I didn't have an e-mail address 11 years ago - I registered the product over the phone. They tell me without the e-mail address they can't help me.
    4) They asked if I had a customer ID number from 11 years ago, which I happen to have in the original box. When I gave it to them, they tell me it isn't a "real" customer ID.
    5) I can't get them to transfer me to someone who understands any of the above. They just tell me to call back when I can find my original e-mail address (the one I never had) else they can't help me.
I've invested thousands of dollars in PageMaker, Premiere, After Effects, and a host of other Adobe products, which I've registered and they can't find me in their system at all. This is nuts! [/ rant off]
So, can anyone point me to someone in Adobe who understands the upgrade and licensing methodologies used in their former upgrade packages or understands how to look up a very long time customer in their CIS database so I can get my new InDesign installed and registered? Any help will be appreciated.

I wanted to post a final report on my issue. I'm not one who gives up when confronted with ignorance (or lousy product support) when there is a principal at stake. After months of battling the "know nothings" in Adobe technical support, I finally wrote a formal letter to introduce Adobe management to my attorney who was of the opinion that I was entitled to either a product activation or a refund with additional compensation for my lost productivity (which I well documented) and legal fees. Upon receiving my letter and pondering their choices, Adobe called me and agreed an activation seemed like a reasonable solution. They provided me with an activation code, which I'm pleased to say worked.
If you go to the product support licensing page at http://www.adobe.com/support/service/ there is now a link on the right side of the page titled "Resolve previous version serial number issue when installing a CS4 upgrade". As such, Adobe is now aware this is a real problem. If you're experiencing the "old serial number carrying forward" problem as I did, first try the instructions provided by the link. If that fails, you need to call customer support (do not call technical support) and tell them you need to activate your InDesign using an override.
Adobe support will take you through a procedure that consists of hidden key strokes and mouse clicks. Take good notes as you will need to remember the procedure if you should ever need to re-activate the installation. The procedure will open a challenge code and activation dialog. They will ask for the challenge code and your InDesign serial number. From that, they will generate an activation code that will bypass the normal [previous product] checks and activate your installation.
SPECIAL NOTE: When customer support gives you the activation code, write it down, along with the date. The activation code is somehow tied to the date. I learned this because I had a hard drive failure a few weeks ago and needed to re-install everything on my new drive. I first tried to re-enter the activation override code with no luck. After sitting on hold with Adobe customer support for two hours, I got the idea to change my system clock back to the date I received the activation code. Much to my delight it worked! So, if you should ever need to re-activate your InDesign, remember to set your computer clock back to the date you received the override activation code and follow the override procedure (referring to the good notes you took the first time).
I hope this helps others who are trapped in Adobe support purgatory with this issue.
    Cheers!

  • Upgrading from PageMaker 7 to InDesign CS4

Okay - My PageMaker 7.0 went a little nuts this week. A few weeks ago I had installed my daughter's InDesign CS2  that she no longer uses (since she moved to MAC) to see if I could handle an upgrade to InDesign. Was planning on purchasing CS4 if I felt I could make a smooth transition.
So...since I'm about to begin a HUGE project for my biggest client with a firm deadline, can someone tell me if it will be a rough transition? I already have issues with CS2 not being able to open PageMaker files (claiming the file is damaged...but I read this is a common issue).
Will CS4 open PageMaker files?  Are there any other issues I should know about in advance?

Why don't you download the free ID CS4 trial and see for yourself?
What OS? There is a known problem with ID opening PM files under Windows XP SP3.
    Ken
You know...sometimes people are just too smart!  (but seriously...thank you!)  Or sometimes I just am not thinking clearly. Absolutely - I will download the trail version.
As for the OS - just looked. Of course...it's 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600.

  • Upgrade from Pagemaker to InDesign?

Can PM7 files be opened on converted to inDesign?  I would like to upgrade to InDesign but am unsure as to the path.

Do use the free trial first, because opening PM files in InDesign can be from completely successful to a complete failure.

  • How to install InDesign CS4 Upgrade from PageMaker

on a new machine when the PageMaker s.n. fails during the activation.  InDesign is looking for the remnants of this program, but it can no longer be installed on my machine, so I must use the serial number, which the installer will not accept.

    why can't you install pagemaker?
    what version?  what's your os?

Just to repeat what you’ve already been told. You are affectively buying a version that is already two versions out of date. There’s very little benefit of going from CS5.5 to CS6 at this point.

  • Upgrade from Pagemaker

I currently have Pagemaker 7.0 and want to upgrade to CS4. I can't find the software available anywhere to purchase. I contacted Adobe sales and all they want to sell to me is a Creative Cloud Membership.  Help!

    >Does any software retailer carry it?
Google is your friend for finding things... but I seriously doubt that ANYONE still sells CS4
CS4 became CS5 became CS5.5 became CS6 became the Cloud... so CS4 is 4 versions old
You might find InDesign CS6 as a standalone program at this link

  • From Pagemaker 7 to Indesign CS4

My employer is looking to upgrade from Pagemaker 7 to Indesign CS4 for our publication needs. I have Indesign CS2 at home, so it definitely looks like Indesign will make things easier. However, the main publication we will be using in Indesign relied heavily on the "Paste Special" function in Pagemaker, and I don't know what the equivalent of that function is in Indesign. (Maybe there's that function in CS4 but I know it's not in CS2) If there isn't a similar function in CS4, what function can I use to paste an Excel file on a page where, if edited in Excel, the Indesign page would also update. Does that make sense?

For some reason I was thinking of the paste in place It had a different name in PM and I was thinking paste special was it.

  • PC crash... getinng back an InDesign CS6 version, which was an upgrade from a CS3 product... looks like the serial number I have is for the initial CS3

I had InDesign CS3... which I upgraded in 2012 to CS6... two days ago my PC crashed... and I need to reload InDesign... I downloaded from Adobe.com InDesign CS6... but when entering my serial number, I got a message saying that my serial n° is valid but that there is no eligible product on my PC... I suspect that my serial n° is related to the initial C3 version I had bought... I guess that I could download CS3 from Adobe.com... and use my serial number... but how I do get back my CS6 upgrade? Thanks a million for any hlep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OK, here is the situation:
    * I am an Adobe customer
    * I bought in 2008 CSInDesign CS3 and I have the serial n° [removed by moderator] in my Adobe account (shows as Adobe InDesign, version = CS3, platform = Win)
    * In 2012, I upgraded my CS3 to CS6 and I have a serial n° [removed by moderator] for that in my Adobe account (shows as Adobe InDesign, version = 8.0, platform = Win)
After my PC crash, I downloaded InDesign CS6 and use my serial n° of 2012. It doesn't work, as it says my product is not eligible.
So, here is where I stand now...
    * I downloaded CS3 and used my serial n° for InDesign CS3. It works. I now have CS3 on my PC
    * How do I get back my 'upgrade from CS3 to CS6?
    * I have the serial number for that upgrage and I guess I need to download an "upgrade" file somewhere from Adobe. But I cannot find it, I found pages with upgrades, but there are so many different files, I do not have a clue which one to use;
This is now my key question... can someone give me the link to access the file(s) I have to download to upgrade my InDesign CS3 version to InDesign CS6

  • Converted from pagemaker to indesign

We recently converted from pagemaker to indesign CS6, how can i do this (image above) in indesign? When i open my file in indesign the part no, desc, qty, list line where  just underlined (image below) i would like the header to be within the lines like the image above.
Thank you for your help, it took us awhile to convert to indesign and am still learning.

You'll need to work with paragraph rules—rule above and rule below. Find them in the paragraph panel flyout menu or the control panel flyout menu when you have the text tool active.

  • Upgrading Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3

    Hi!
Is it possible to upgrade only Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3 or do I have to buy the whole Creative Suite 4?
I bought an upgrade for Indesign CS4, but now I can use it only as a testversion, because when I start the programme
it asks me besides the new serial number for Indesign 4 also for a serial number of CS3.
But I have only one serial number for the complete Creative Suite and this one will not be accepted.
    What can I do?

    Hello Mr. Spier,
thank you for answering. So I will buy the complete bundle.
