InDesign vs. Flash

To make a slide show for a PDF, it is easier to create a multi-state button InDesign or use Flash to create the slide show, and which would take less memory?
(cross-posted in InDesign forum)

When you export InDesign file to FLA, each spread is mapped to a new keyframe on Flash Pro timeline.
All the animations on a particular spread are converted to separate movie clips. And all these movie clips are included inside a single movie clip. These movie clips are named as Spread_1, Spread_2, Spread_3, etc...
All the movie clips inside the spread are available in the Library panel.
When exported from InDesign, all the interactivity and synchronization (that is, the things you might have provided in Timing panel from InDesign) is lost because export is meant to be a tool for workflow where graphic designer creates first part in Indesign and delivers that stuff to Flash-coder or other Flash-operator for finalizing it in Flash environment.
That’s the reason you are getting the looping of all the movie clips when you directly publish the exported fla file.
Following 2 steps are required to be updated for every FLA:
1.       Update each movie clip from stage so that it has “stop();” action in it. This takes care of constant looping.
2.       Add the synchronization and interactivity.

  • Importer document interactif indesign dans flash

    bonjour
    j'utilise CS5

  • Export InDesign to flash, Hyperlinks issue

I am exporting an InDesign document with hyperlinks to a flash document to palce on the internet. With flash document on the internet if you click on a hyperlink a new tab opens up. Can I amke the hyperlink work so that clicking on the link does not open up a new tab or window, but changes teh page within the current tab/window?

Update: Reinstalled flash. Layers with content are now visable but  animations do not indicate path of item plus the code that enabled the swf file to function properly does not appear to have made the trip during export to the .fla file. That doesn't seem right. What would be the sense of enabling InDesign to export flash files if they are crippled in the process? There does not seem to be any time savings using InDesign if most of the work has to be redone in flash. Are we missing something? Any input is welcomed.

  • Interaction between InDesign and Flash CS5

To all the InDesign/Flash users: I have a question for you...
I've been asked something by a client: He would like to add a Google Analytics on a Flash file to track users. He cannot do it in the HTML ('cause he only creates the .swf file and doesn't have access to the HTML file), so he needs to do it in the .fla file. He has found the ActionScript code to do so, but there's a problem...
From InDesign, he needs to export as .swf, because he wants to have the Page Curl effect (and I think some other features also) that he looses if he exports to .fla.
The .swf alone works well. But as soon as we try to import it in Flash (in another .fla), it looses all it's attributes/codes and just import the layout (that keeps moving from page to page)...
If I open it in a decompiler (SWF Decompiler), it shows me there is some ActionScript code, but even then, if I decompile it and export it as a .fla, when I open I loose all the interactions (like the imported .swf).
It's the first time I see something like that. What does InDesign do to the .swf file? How can we solve that problem?
Any help will be welcomed (I'm not a InDesign user...).

Turn off the editable text option when importing the PSD into Flash to convert them to images. If keeping the text editable is important then you will have to re-create the look using Flash's life effects. It's a completely different thing from PS...

  • Indesign window flashing

While using indesign CC 2014 this morning the document window frame started to flash, I have just done a search without any results. At first I thought the easy access controls had been accidentally switched on but they are all switched off. Has anyone else experienced this?

We're having the same issue too.
    OS X 10.9.4
    Adobe Indesign 2014.0 Build 10.0.0.70
    Suitcase Fusion 5 16.2.4
All legit versions down the line.  Something with the Extensis Font auto-activation extension causes -certain- documents (and not complex ones - some with just 5 fonts) to obsessively reload, causing all panels and UI to flash repeatedly.  Disabling the plugin stops the issue.

  • Kuler for InDesign, PS, Flash

I am requesting to bring kuler (and in offline form as well!)
    to the entire creative suite.
Its great that its in Illustrator, however it is VERY much
needed in InDesign and PS as well. and therefore, may as well be
embedded within every program of the suite. the online connection
is nice, but not always practical or possible. *note, i have tried
the adobe air download too, but thats just an online thing? is
there anyway to just USE it?
    make colours, if not online?
    best
    James

Thanks for the post, James, good to know there is interest in
seeing kuler integrated with other Creative Suite applications! For
    now, see the
    kuler
mashups wiki page to see the kuler panels other members have
created for Flash CS3, Fireworks CS3, and Dreamweaver C3.
The kuler desktop (AIR) lets your browse offline by caching
up to 100 themes per feed. Currently you cannot create colors using
the desktop. For offline color creation, if you have Illustrator
CS3, you can use the Live Color feature, which kuler's color
    algorithms are based off of.

  • InDesign interactive flash version?

Creating InDesign interactive pdfs, I'm wondering what the minimum requirements are for the flash plugin to view correctly? Since interactive features appeared in CS5 will interactive pdfs play on older flash plugins for acrobat reader... or does the latest version need to be used.

Ordinary interactive PDF features are still very useful. Buttons, Forms, Hyperlinks, Bookmarks, Transitions all can play in an interactive PDF without the Flash Player.
The only things that require Flash are the animations, Page Turn, Page Curl, placed SWF, and some of the button actions.
But without any of those, the interactive PDF is totally viable. Check out this discussion and the post I wrote:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1280516?tstart=0
Now, what about the future? I don't know. Honestly don't.
I desperately hope that Adobe can figure out some way to use the animations in InDesign in DPS and ePub. HTML 5 would be the most likely option. But right now, if you ask someone from Adobe about inserting animations into DPS, they will tell you about Edge Animator. That's the current flavor of the month for easy-to-create animations. (Although I find ID's animation tools easier.)
PDF is way too entrenched to die. But I do not see the Acrobat team doing anything to change the basic system of interactivity in PDF documents. That code seems set in stone. So, in my opinion, the interactive features that are currently there are all we're going to get. (This is my opinion. I know nothing official.)
I have put in a feature request for some way to use ID's animations in DPS apps. But that's not the ID team. It's the DPS developers. The irony is, however, that non-Adobe plugins for ID do have animation exports for DPS.
OK, I'll step down from the soapbox.

  • Missing content exporting from InDesign CC 2014 to Flash Pro CC 2014

    Dear all,
to produce a larger number of similar animated swf's, I wanted to create all necessary text and graphic layers in InDesign CC 2014, then export as *.fla to Flash Pro CC 2014 for "bulk" animation.
Finally it should then just be a case of selecting the correct layers and publishing.
The problem: When exporting from InDesign to Flash, all layers are recognized but initially apart from the text layers they were shown as empty items without the content.
Rescaling the placed images in InDesign to be no larger than the final document helped to now also have the images when opening the exported *.fla in Flash.
I am still missing all other InDesign objects though, e.g. even a simple colored rectangular will not show in Flash.
Any help to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. Searching for it only brought up a couple of tutorials that do not seem to have this issue.
    Best regards
    Christopher

I think that it's just a bug in InDesign. It happens with CS6 as well.

  • SWF Export, no font showing in Acrobat and zoom border problem (Acrobat & Reader) - Indesign CS6

    Hi Everyone,
If anyone could help me on this that would be great, I've spent hours on the forums and manuals to no avail.
I'm making an interactive PDF brochure in Indesign for one of our new products and I'm having issues (actual or perceived??!!) with the SWF export and PDF creation.  I'm placing animations and video in the INDD, exporting it as an SWF (with the text option as Flash Classic Text) and then opening the SWF (not importing to a word doc or anything, just opening the SWF) with Acrobat using the advanced options to import the video resources and to enable the content when the page is opened.  I then save the file as a PDF.  In the PDF everything works as it should, the animations, the buttons, the video plays and so on.  Great.. hmm not quite.
The trouble I am having is that all the content of the SWF when viewed in Acrobat seems to be getting rasterised/flattened - is this correct?  After the SWF is opened, Acrobat indicates no fonts in the fonts tab in the document properties so when the SWF is zoomed in Acrobat, or the saved PDF in Reader, the font gets pixelated and the document is not searchable/text can not be highlighted.  The images are not selectable either - it is as if the entire page has been flattened to one image.  Is there a way to stop this so that the SWF opened with Acrobat retains the font and individual images like a normal PDF?  Do I have to open the SWF in Flash first to set some parameters or something?  Is there something I am doing wrong when exprting the SWF from Indesign?  I think I have tried about every possible export combination.  When I open the .HMTL (exported at the same time as the SWF from Indesign) in a browser, the same happens.  All the animations work but the text appears to be rasterised/flattened/not searchable.  Sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology.
I have tried importing the SWF back into another new INDD and exporting that as an interactive PDF but then the video does not work.  I suppose I could try exporting all the individual animations as SWFs, importing them all and trying to get them to work with the video but I can see that will take quite some time and does not seem to be a guaranteed solution from what I have read on the forums - video playback being the issue.
Another problem is that when the SWF, or saved PDF, is zoomed in Acrobat/Reader between approx 150% and 210% a thick white border appears in the document and the content is squashed into the middle creating a slightly pixelated and narrow page.  When I zoom out from the page I get a small white line on the right hand border at around 70% zoom.  Please see images.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
On another, sort of related topic, my timing panel went blank yesterday and was not showing any animations in documents that it had been used to order and synch animations on page load as well as new documents.  The panel was blank.  I updated to V8.0.1 and the panel sprang back into life - hope that helps anyone else finding the same problem.
I am not very familiar with Indesign/Acrobat/Flash so I guess all the above could be what I'm doing or I could be asking  really dumb questions - apologies from a newbie.
    Best,
    Emily

    Hi All,
I have now pretty much solved all the issues by creating the SWF in Flash rather than Indesign.  I would advise anyone looking to create an interative PDF with animation and interactivity to go with Flash from the start.  While Flash is a little more involved to create the same effects as Indesign, the extra time taken will ensure a more controllable and better looking PDF in terms of text quality, scalability and so on.  Plus you will not spend days trying to get video to work along side imported SWF etc in Indesign.  One of the best controls in Flash is being able to set the stage.scaleMode for the document so the PDF still looks crisp when zooming, no white borders etc.  So, create the .fla, export to .SWF, open the .SWF with Acrobat, modify the advanced settings to enable start on page load and save as a PDF.  If you don't know Flash, I didn't a couple of days ago, watch a couple of tutorials on Youtube.. buttons, tweens, embedding video and you'll be ready.  Don't be put off by ActionScript, there are really handy Code Snippets in CS6 that do all the heavy lifting for you.
    Sorry Indesign!
    Best,
    Em

  • Missing fonts in flash menu

i'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue. i've
got a collection of fonts in various formats all installed on my
pc. several key fonts however, are not included in the flash font
menu when i launch flash. they range in format (truetype, opentype
    and type 1, etc..), so i don't necessarily think it's a
compatibility issue, but i've noticed that the fonts being left out
seem wildly arbitrary. even amongst fonts within the same family.
The prime example being an assorted library of helvetica neue font
faces that i have. I've got around 40 or 50 different variations of
this typeface and only about half of them show up in flash. i've
tried overwriting the fonts and restarting my machine and then
flash with no luck. i've even tried renaming the fonts, etc, and
converting formats. i have no idea what's going on.
i should mention this has been somewhat of a problem for me
even from within previous versions of flash. is there some
technical aspect of flash with regards to how it displays and
utilizes font files/families that i should be aware of? ideally i
would think that the font engine for future releases of flash would
more closely mirror that of adobe aps such as illustrator and
indesign. does flash treat fonts in more or less the same way
currently though? for instance, if i enter some static text, choose
helvetica neue regular (55 roman or what have you) and then make
the text bold, is that simply an approximation of bold that flash
is applying, or is it actually referencing by proxy, the
corresponding "bold" face in the helvetica family (75 bold)?
at any rate, i'd really appreciate if anyone could shed a bit
of light on this subject. hopefully this makes sense.

I'm having a similar issue with the Avenir font family
(PostScript). First it wasn't showing up in Flash at all, then it
was and I was able to get some work done.
    I've got a PowerMac G5, and I'm running Flash 8.
Then I was gone for the holiday weekend, and when I came
back, not only is it saying that I don't have the fonts again, but
they are actually still there, listed under slightly different
names in Flash (12 Avenir 95 Black 09173 became Bl Avenir Black,
for example). If I try to change the font links in Flash to the
ones with different names in the Inspector or in the Font Mapping
dialog box that comes up when I open the file, Flash 8 crashes
    completely.
I've installed and run the latest version of Extensis
Suitcase, and I don't have any corrupt fonts, so I need some help
    figuring out what to do!

  • I have created a newsletter in indesign cs4 how can I set zooms for each article for the user

I have created a e-newsletter in Indesign. I have successfuly saved it as a SWF then as a PDF from acrobat.
The problem is that when the user zooms in the resolution is not good.
How can I let the user zoom in to read each article. Would I create buttons with zoom settings for each article. If this is the case do I do it in Indesign or Flash and can I still save it as a PDF file and it will keep the interactivity?
I would greatly appreciate any help with this issue. It is driving me mad trying to get the information I need.

  • Adobe pdf to Flash page turning book

First of all apologies as this isn't strictly an Indesign itself question - more the end product of Indesign brochure query.
Can anyone recommend a particular professional PDF to Flash page  turning book effect software. I've googled but there's a fair few out  there and not sure which to go for. Anyone recommend a software in  particular or know if any have been approved by Adobe? This is following  a request by corporate client of mine but I'm stuck on which one is  best to go for.
    Thanks

eDocker is not a PDF to Flash FlipPage software, it´s more like InDesign to Flash FlipPage solution, but it´s aproved by Adobe.

  • Using TLF in Indesign

Hi - I've been reading that there is now more fidelity in text between Indesign and Flash, starting from FP10, when we use the TLF. Can you send me some sample code(Javascript way or Java way) of how to use the TLF in indesign server? I know that we can extract the text manually from TLF and apply the text to the textframe in an indd file but I want to use a TLF directly in a textframe in indesign.
If possible, Is this vailable with Indesign server CS4?

On Step 6 choose PSD for the file format

  • Active Webpage in Flash (SWF) book?

We recently updated to CS5.5 Design Premium with the hopes we could do amazing things. One thing that we wanted to replicate in Flash was:
    http://discomap.eea.europa.eu/map/discomapdemo/
We've been able to create the SWF file separate from the active webpage (iframe) which works but not exactly the same.
Been looking for a way in InDesign and Flash to be able to link and pull active content through the design to display the way it is in the sample above. This is a great presentation tool and we'd like to start building many of these for clients.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We've found JQuery that does similar but the sampel is in Flash or SWF and is really what we wanted to replicate.
    Thanks

Honestly, I don't use Flash.  Haven't used it for several years.
    Flash isn't user friendly.
Translators & screen readers don't see Flash content.
Search Engines seldom find Flash content as well as HTML content.
Flash isn't supported by iPhone, iPad, iTouch, etc...
Flash had a very good run for a decade or more.  But the tide has shifted away from Flash towards HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery which are  widely supported in modern web devices.

  • InDesign CS6 Interaktiv: Animation und "Gehe zu Ziel" automatisch nacheinander?

    Hallo zusammen!
    Bennet S.
