Indesign will not boot
On the third time (after installing) I tried to start InDesign CS4 and get an Error Message:
AMT Subsystem Failure; "This product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart your computer before it can be launched."
(Since Attachments are not working in this forum, I uploaded the error message here: http://toserve.org/error)
Restarted several times, doesn't help.
I've been running Adobe Creative Suite CS4 (Web Premium) for about a year. I installed InDesign as a stand-a-lone.
Is there a way to uninstall/reinstall with out deactivating first? Other then by phone.
Any other ideas?

Search for: AMT Subsystem failure was the first thing I did, took awhile to go through all that with no luck.
I had had the trail version of Indesign on this system and uninstalled it prior to installing the copy I bought.
My Creative Web Suites CS4 works just fine. What makes this so bad is; I will use Indesign maybe 2-3 times a month, and could use Illustrator for most of that. Dreamweaver, I have to use several hours everyday, And it works just fine. I't just a shame to have to mess with the Suites in order to fix a stand-a-lone copy of Indesign.
Is there a cleaner way to uninstall Indesign other then' Control Panel > Programs > uninstall?

2009 Mac Pro will not boot up under Windows
I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro system (Mac Pro 4,1) and I've had this system for 3 years already and have been working under OS X with this system ever since I purchased it.
However, when I tried to boot off my Windows disk, something very interesting happens. The Mac Pro WILL NOT boot up off the Windows disk or a known working Windows partition if two monitors are connected. Upon holding down the option key and selecting the Windows partition, I will get a black screen on one monitor (the one connected via Mini Displayport) and the other screen receives no signal and will enter standby and the system is halted. It does not respond to keystrokes, there is no hard drive activity, no measured power increase on the UPS, no apparent network activity, nothing. The only way to exit this scenario (from what I can tell) is to power off the machine, disconnect the display on DVI, power on the machine again, select the Windows partition wait for the system to reach the login window and reconnect the DVI monitor (at which time Windows recognizes it immediately and the system works fine again).
My question to the community is, does anybody know why this is happening and is there a known fix for this? Quite frankly, having to disconnect a monitor just to restart is very tedious and frustrating.
I have two Samsung P2350 monitors attached to an ATI Radeon HD 4870 (512MB, from Apple). One is monitor is connected via directly DVI and the other is using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter. Both monitors work fine under OS X with no issue. At first, I thought that this may be a driver issue on the Windows side and after installing all the latest updates and drivers the issue is still apparent. From what I can tell, this doesn't seem like a software issue but rather a firmware or EFI issue as this happens before Windows even loads.
If anyone knows of a fix or what to do in this situation, or if you are also having this issue, I would love to hear your input!

For the record, I am running all the latest software builds on the OS X side (10.7.4, not that it would really matter at this point). I have also disconnected all unnecessary equipment in a trial and error scenario but the results are still the same.
The system passes all ASD testing.
The full specification of the computer and all connected equipment are as follows:
2009 Mac Pro (4,1) 8-Core
2x Intel Xeon Nehalem 2.66GHz Quad-Core CPUs
16GB DDR3 ECC 1066MHz RAM (Apple Branded)
Two OWC 120GB SSDs (One for OS X, the other for Windows 7 x64) - These are in place of my optical drives.
4x 2TB WD Black Hard drives for storage.
Two Samsung P2350 Monitors connected via DVI. (One using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter).In Windows I am using the latest (12.4) Catalyst Software Suite, 64 bit of course, downloaded directly from AMD's site after installing the drivers from Boot Camp.
As for installing Windows I used an original (not burned) installation media (Disk is in a pristine condition). And yes, Windows is fine, the problem just seems to be getting the system to boot up Windows with that second monitor. However if the "problem monitor" is disconnected the system boots fine 100% of the time and connecting it later after booting the system will still operate properly.
For the sake of arguement I swapped monitor cables and connected the "second" monitor to the mini displayport adapter to verify that it wasn't a cabling issue and I'm still yielding the same issues.
As for GPU testing, I've played games (Crysis, Grand Theft Auto IV, Battlefield 3, etc.) and I've had no issues with the card or stability.
You would think that Apple would try to find a fix for this, especially considering the caliber of this machine. -
Macbook Pro will not boot up normally ***Not Normal Problems***
Ok. I have an older 17" Macbook pro 2.33 (10.6 fully updated) that will not boot up in normal mode. When I boot it shows "blocks" of different colors and will not get past the blue screen sometimes. When it does get passed the the blue or grey screen it is a split screen of white back ground with large black blocks seperating the sides. I have tried swapping out harddrives with a known working one with an OSX image on it-no good. I have tried swapping out ram-same thing. I reset the SMC and PRAM-only colors changed in the blocks. I have ran disk utilites disk and permisions with no problems. I can't boot into a restore disk using the c key during boot, It locks up at the same screen. Nothing works except safe mode. I can boot into safe mode and everything works just fine with normal screen and all. Now I tried runing the Lion installer thinking it is and driver issue but I can't get Lion to boot to the hard drive and Snow leopard just reboots back to the same screen. So how can I get Lion to install or Snow Leopard?
What can I do? I noticed this last weekend when I tried to reboot my MB Pro and it started this. Well Apple pushed and update last friday - I needed to restart it again and this happends. I thought it was a logic board at fist until it booted fine in safe mode.Sorry. What I mean is I selected the SL boot up in the start up panel and it would not boot into the cd. The CD rom sounds like it just keeps reading with it slowly loading from grey screen to blue screen to the Block screen. Almost like it is booting into normal mode from the hard drive.
What I can't understand is why it runs fine is Safe mode?
Also why do I get a " this disk cannot be used to start up your computer" message on my hard drive when trying to install Lion in safe mode? Well why not it's the only hard drive in the computer?

InDesign will not deploy from CCP Team Package
Hello - I am getting nowhere trying to get packages to deploy using the CCP.
A package containing all of the apps we need to deploy will not deploy. A package containing just Illustrator deployed just fine. A package containing just InDesign will not deploy.
Each one of these packages was created on the same computer with Windows 7 SP1 64-bit installed just prior to creating the packages.
Each one of these packages was deployed on the same computer with Windows 7 SP1 64-bit installed just prior to attempting deployment.
So, the packages are created on a machine with a fresh install of Win7x64sp1 - nothing but the operating system installed - no apps of any kind installed, Adobe or otherwise.
The packages are then deployed to the same machine just after another fresh install of Win7x64sp1 - nothing but the operating system installed - no apps of any kind installed, Adobe or otherwise.
The progress bar gets to about half, it stalls then rolls back and NOTHING gets installed.
The software environments used to create and deploy these packages don't get any cleaner than this! Yet, the packages do not deploy.
Okay, so where I come from it looks to me as if [a] the packager is broken, [b] the deployment process is broken, [c] some software needs to be installed before creating and/or deploying the package, [d] some of the above, or [e] all of the above!
I have tried just about everything mentioned in the forum with no success.
Is there anyone out there, especially an Adobe support specialist, I can work with to get this deployment problem resolved?
Do I need to purchase a support plan just to get the software deployed?
Do I need to find and hire somebody outside of Adobe to get this software deployed?
Any suggestions, answers, pointers or comments would be greatly appreciated. I am about out of steam on this...

IMac Late 2006 Will Not Boot Up
I have a late 2006 iMac. The problem I have is that it will not boot up. I press the power button and the light comes on but the display is blank. Do you all think the problem is the logic board?

My iBook has been having Logic Board issues similar to what you say though, but it's because of a chip on the lower side of the board that become desoldered. I ended up putting a small piece of rubber onto it to apply pressure onto the chip once I reapplied the case/undercover. It works & I backed up everything, but it sometime acts up again with similar symptoms as your iMac. -
I am in Mavericks disk utility recovery mode as my mac book pro will not boot up & stays on the Apple grey screen . When I verify disk permissions I get
Open error 5:"input/ output error" on syst with over 50 of this messages & still counting . Disk Utility says 1 minute
But this has been going on for over 10 mins .
I can not verify disk or repair disk .
I have tried to reinstall mavericks operating system but it says my hard drive is locked which is very strange .
Does anyone know what is going on here ?

WARNING: This will completely erase the ENTIRE hard drive.
What you would need to do is boot to recovery > disk utility > select the MAIN drive on the left side > partition > change partition layout from CURRENT to 1 PARTITION > ensure on the right side it says Format : Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) then push APPLY.
Then if it will allow us, close the windows until you see the 4 options popup again and select "Reinstall Mac OS X" select the Mac HD and you should be good to go! -
My Mid 2010 MacBook Pro will not boot
My Mid 2010 MacBook Pro will not boot regularly, in safe mode, in recovery mode or from original OS DVD. Is this the logic board?
I've tried resetting the SMC and pram numerous times and even tried switching out hdd's to try and do a clean install on a new hdd.
If I attempt to boot regularly or from recovery drive the grey apple logo appears for a period before the screen goes black and the power LED operates as though in 'sleep' mode. I'm unable to wake it from this state and the same applies to booting in safe mode.
When attempting to boot from the OS DVD that was originally packed with the computer it just freezes on the language select option, this occurs with the other hdd's I have attempted to use.
Any other suggestions to get it working? I fear the logic board has gone and that the repair won't be worth the money.

OSX 10.6.8 server will Not Boot
Hi my 10.6.8 server will not boot. System is a 2009 Mac pro. I have run disk utility from the original server software install disk, ran repair disk, and repair disk permissions. Get some acl found errors have read that they most often are erroneous, Still got the same errors after permission repairs. While booting in verbose mode get the following messages before it stops:

I did read on another post here to try to reinstall the os, however when I try to install over the operating system it says I am trying to install an older os and it will not let me install in the same volume.... Although I am confident I have all the data on backups as well have timemachine backups, I would rather not have to erase and install this machine.
Any insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated.I found that I had a bad harddrive, or at least that is what I think happened.. I did have a time machine backup as well, although in hindsight, I should have made some manual backups of my open directory and the databases hosted on the server. In any case I ended up purchasing "server grade" harddrives and reinstalling the OS on to the new blank hard drives, I was then able to recover from my time machine backup, however, I did have the issue of the restore going over 100%, I tried this several times and the same result with no end after hours and hours. After reading through various forums I found that clicking the mouse button for about 10 minutes straight once it hit 100% finally worked, I was lucky that the Time machine backup had good data on it since I have read several posts saying that Time machine doesn;t backup directoies or any "open files" very well, however I had no problems after recovering from the backup. I do however now backup or archive my directory everyday, and I rely on Filemaker to backup its own databases, however I still use time machine as well...

I need to make a pdf document, already made in photoshop, 'page turn' and then add it to my website as an e-brochure. I know I can do this in indesign but indesign will not open pdf files for some inexplicable reason. Any ideas how I can do it without completely starting again?

please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.

Problem:
After being shut off for more than 2 hours my computer will not boot up on the 1st try. It goes to a message that says"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". I shut it down using the power button, wait for the hard drives to stop spinning, and then hit the power again and it starts up just fine. It will restart just fine also as many time as I want to restart it, after it has been running in windows. Once it is running, it runs terrific, no problems at all.
If you go right into the bios after sitting for a while you see this in the boot sequence, notice there is no hard drives(Nvidia Stripe)in the boot sequence.
After shutting it down and starting right back up this is what you see in the boot sequence. This pic is from a different time, thats why the boot sequence is different.
Here is a short youtube video (2:10 sec) made to help show the problem. (I called it a Cold boot Storage problem for another thread) just ignore that.
Things I have done to try to solve the problem:
1. Update the bios
2.I have moved the boot sequence around, Foppy1st, or CD 1st, ect. and even disabled the [USB:HP Photosm] in the boot sequence, Hard Drives are 1st now.
3.Replaced the Mobo Battery thinking that it was not remembering the boot sequence
4.Checked that the Hard Drives are connected to the correct plugs (6-7) on the motherboard, and that the raid connector JP1 was shorted out for Raid 0 and the blue indicator light was flashing.
* Just a note in this area. I did set up the Raid 0 with a tech from MSI because I was having an issue with the initial set up, and I did use the Nvidia raid drivers that came with the motherboard. Pchas01 in another thread thought that this could be part of the issue because it is not necessary to load the drivers when you set up the Motherboard in the Raid mode.
F10 and look in the Raid Array
5. Pulled the jumper off of JP1 and it just went to the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" screen much faster, but would never boot up after 5 tries. Put the jumper back in and started up on the 2nd try like the normal problem.
6.Went into the On-Chip ATA devices in the bios and Changed the Raid Mode to an IDE, I cannot F10 and get into the Raid Array now, but I guess that is normal.
Now this is what my boot sequence currently looks like.
That is the point that I am right now. It runs great, games are awesome on it. Its just does not want to start up on the 1st attempt.

I started with the easy fixes first, changed the sata cables, and tried different power supply connectors. Both tests had same results, still boots up on 2nd try. I did not know how soon the problem would re-occur after it has been shut down, my shortest time so far is 25 minutes.

Well right now, it is not even set up that way, in my #6 problem solving, it was suggested that I turn the Raid Mode off and try [IDE] to see if that made a difference,"because I don't need Raid enabled for the hardware raid". It did not, it only booted to the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" window about 60 seconds faster. It is currently set up in this way.

Intel iMac will not boot past gray screen
my system:
new (month old) 24" intel imac, 2.8 ghz, 4 gb ram.
running: leopard (upgraded from tiger, which was pre-installed at purchase), installed 10.5.1 update right before this huge problem occurred.
install discs on-hand: two-disc tiget set, single leopard upgrade disc.
what led to this:
i wanted to install windows using bootcamp on a 50 gb partition.
at this point i was running leopard 10.5
i followed all bootcamp instructions, printing out the guide, as well. once i got into the windows setup, i was prompted to choose a partition to install windows. unlike the bootcamp guide, which showed three partitions, one clearly labeled "bootcamp", i saw only one partition. not wanting to risk writing over my mac partition, i quit the setup and rebooted the mac os. after some googling around, i looked for firmware updates (didn't need any), and then software updates. i decided to try updating to 10.5.1.
i then ran through boot camp again, deleting my previous windows partition, creating a new one, and moving forward as before. once again, i was only shown one partition to choose from in the windows setup. i exited the setup again to reboot through the mac os, but this time, i was only given a blank gray screen.
here's what i have tried so far:
booting from a CD, holding down the C or D keys: no response (in fact, i have to restart the computer holding down the mouse button to be able to eject the CD)
booting with option key held down: gray screen
booting with option key held down with external bootable firewire drive attached: the firewire drive appears as a boot icon, and i can click on it within a five second window, but then the screen freezes after that time period, and nothing changes
booting into target mode while attached to another mac: gray screen (no firewire icon, and drive never shows up on other mac)
resetting NVRAM: i'm able to hear the boot chimes, but no difference in performance. gray screen every time
Safe boot: nothing but a gray screen
Verbose mode: gray screen
Single user mode: gray screen
Single user mode with firewire drive attached: occasionally (not every time), i am able to get the white on black terminal to show up. from here, i'm able to run fsck, but it appears to only be checking the firewire drive. i have tried several times to boot from here, and once it took me to a blue screen with movable arrow cursor, but it never went beyond this.
is there anything else left to try before taking it to apple?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mac Pro will not boot - HD and Machine are fine.
Greetings, and thank you in advance for your wisdom.
I have a 12-core Mac Pro, and she has been running like a dream. Once a month I run Onyx. Yesterday I did the same and upon reboot I got the grey apple screen and the spinning progress wheel that never stops spinning.
1. I repaired the HD via Disk Utility. All is fine.
2. The contents of the start-up drive are accessible - so the drive itself is not physically damaged.
3. I installed a new HD and made a copy of this Start-up disk via the Disk Utility. It will not boot from this drive as well.
4. I installed Snow Leopard (still using this) on the new drive to make sure the computer was happy. It fires up fine.
5. Everything is disconnected from the Mac Pro
So, I have obvious, and idiotically damaged the start-up disk using Onyx (assumption).
My life would be much better knowing I could do something that would enable me to boot from my current start-up and that's where I seek your wisdom.
Another question would be: If the above is not possible, if I install a fresh OS on the new drive, and then begin to replace all of the folders from the old drive (applications, library, etc.) will I be able to access my files as I did before. My issue is that I use this for music production, and there are literally close to 100 plugins that all have been registered. Going back through that process again would be days of labor, as some of these were purchases years ago. Tracking down serials would be a task. I think you understand.
So any advice that might prevent me from having to do as I said above will be wonderful.

LanceUnder some circumstances, you may need to reinstall Mac OS X. You can reinstall Mac OS X while keeping your files and user settings intact.

If your Hardware is functioning correctly, and your disk has no un-repaired Directory problems [Hint: run Disk Utility ( Repair Disk ) first] then re-installing Mac OS X modifies ONLY the files that are part of Mac OS X. Your Added Applications, User files (which contain preferences and serial numbers) are not supposed to be touched. -

Help! My iPod touch 2G will not boot up!
My iPod touch 2G will not boot.
Heres the specs of the problem:
It turns on with an Apple logo with a spinning wheel under it.
I have tried editing the hosts file with the Apple server codes.
I have tried restoring 16 times. (I log what I do on it)
The iPod has never been jailbroken.
It is an MC model.
It is 8GB.
Its formated for Windows. (Windows 7)
iTunes 10.4
I have tried "The Tiny Umbrella TSS Server with SHSH blobs for iOS 4.1"
I tried "RecBoot" no luck.
My Mom will kill me if I can't fix this. I am going on a 9 hour vacation ride with 7 year old brothers that get really cranky. I leave August 6th, 2011. So I need to have it fixed before then. So i really, really, really need help!Try uninstalling iTunes and installing the 10.4 iTunes that came out a few days ago. Click start, run and paste "%Userprofile%\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates" without quotes. Find iPod2,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw and delete it. Try restoring again and Tiny Umbrella is only for iPhones. Do not use it on iPod Touch or various errors appear. iPod Touches can downgrade at any time (idk about iOS 5). If it doesn't work, reply. :)

Airport extreme will not boot with USB hard disk plugged in.
Hi there,
I'm using the Airport Extreme Base Station, and I find that if I have a USB hard disk plugged into it, it will not boot up, it only hang-ups with an amber light, and stays there indefinitely. It's not a terrible issue because it can be overcome by unplugging the disk then rebooting, but it's irritating, especially when I'm not home and there is a power temporary outage and my wife can no longer access the internet or I can no longer access my disks over the internet.
Is there a solution to this problem?

MarcI'm going to have to replace the unit, as I'm unable to turn off DHCP services, which is wreaking havoc on my server based environment.
Considering THIS issue *AND* the major DHCP show stopper, frankly, I'm debating etiher the fire pit or tossing the damned thing into the intersection and watching it be reduced to the trash that it is.
Either way, there'll be 7 feet of pack ice in **** before I buy another Apple networking product.
I'll decide later, with a jaundiced eye, regarding our XServe unit. Might reformat it to Linux...
