InDesign will not open files in Date Modified order

I have never had this problem before, but suddenly InDesign will not import/open my files (photos) in Date Modified order. No matter how I select the files or order/arrange the files in the File\Place window, they open in name order. I have 200 separate folders with six photos each. These are to be placed in the InDesign document in date modified order. Someone suggested batch renaming the files using Adobe Bridge, however the files are in 200 individual folders for a reason and I don't want to open each folder and batch rename 6 at a time. I have reset my InDesign preferences with no luck. I am using Version CS5.5 of InDesign, Mac OS X 10.7.5. Any suggestions?

@Emily,
It usually only confuses a discussion to open a new thread on the same subject.

    I need to make a pdf document, already made in photoshop, 'page turn' and then add it to my website as an e-brochure. I know I can do this in indesign but indesign will not open pdf files for some inexplicable reason. Any ideas how I can do it without completely starting again?

    Hello waitingone,
    please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
    1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
    2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
    3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
    4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
    5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
    6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
    7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.
    Good luck!

  • Adobe Indesign & Illustrator CS6 will not open files off server after Mac Maverick update.

    I updated to Mac OS X Maverick and all the sudden my InDesign and Illustrator will not open files off of my works network.  I read somewhere about installing the new Java update may help fix it, but I tried it and it did not. I have restarted my computer and reset the connection to the server multiple times, but it does nothing.
    The exact message I get is:  "Cannot open the files "xxxx.indd" Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application"  I know for a fact that it is not open in another application so it is not that. I have tried multiple files on the server as well.
    For Illustrator, I try to open a file from the server and it just freezes and does not respond so I have to force quit.
    Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

    If you had asked before you did this I would have told you not to move to Mavericks unless you were prepared for problems. I’m not a proponent of upgrade installations for operating systems and there’s no way to eliminate that as the cause.
    That said, before you start erasing the whole machine, try uninstalling CS6 and then reinstalling it. You might want to run the cleaner tool after the uninstallation.

  • Adobe Acrobat 11 will not open files in IE 10.0.06

    Adobe Acrobat 11 will not open files in IE 10.0.06. Problem started about 2 months ago. It can open older files on computer but cannot open or downloadd any from internet. Using Office 2010. Already spent an hour with my computer tech support under warranty. Please help identify issue. Thanks

    As a web designer - IMHO, Internet Exploder is absolute garbage disguised as software. This (and thousands of other threads in this and many other forums throughout the web) is just more proof of that. I've used Firefox since 2002 when it was still called Mozilla. It does about a million things IE can't and won't, and does them better, faster, and more sensibly.
    Microsoft KNOWS that most corporate workstations have Windows and most I/T departments forbid installation of unapporved software, including browsers, so (by a very slim margin) IE is still the most used browser in the world, but... that doesn't by any means make it the best choice. Because they know so many people are literally FORCED to use it at work, they will not make it more functional than they absolutely have to, because they don't care if people like it or not, when they have no other choice.
    On a home computer, it's different, and that's why Firefox is just a fraction of a percentage point behind IE in worldwide use, and thanks to iPhones, Safari is rapidly climbing the numbers too.
    Rather than trying to work around something that even Microsoft won't bother to fix, abandon their junk and go with Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari. It won't be long till you're glad you did.

  • Adobe reader X will not open files on the web

    Adobe reader X will not open files on the web.  It works fine on off-line files.

    Hello Ray,
    Please try following steps:
    1. Run the installed Adobe Reader X.
    2. Click on Edit in the menu bar.
    3. Then click on Preferences in the drop down menu list.
    4. Click on the Internet category on the left pane.
    5. Now, make sure that Display PDF in Browser option is checked.
    If above steps doesn't work then let me know which Browser you are using, may be we have to do some settings there.

  • Ibook author 2 will not open file created in ibook author

    ibook author 2 will not open file created in ibook author.  How can I find out what is causing this?  I read it might be a video file, but can't find out which one.
    TIA

    There should not be a simple issue just because of versions, I think.
    You may have a corrupted asset, as you seem to think. In that case, it's up to you to dig into the exact cause, sorry.
    Did you call support for this yet?

  • FDK 9 will not open file

    I have a c api I created to create a book with a template it copies FM files from a templete folder and renames the book and documents form a text file with the name it will be using. The problem is the api will not open the text file, I keep getting an error saying it cannot open the file. This is working in FDK 8. I have look at the FDK 9 documents to see if anything has changed with the F_ChannelOpen and it looks the same. The source code compiles fine with no errors using the FDK 9 libs and includes. I am using MS Visual c++ 6.0 to compile the code.
    What am I missing?
         AllocStrings();
        F_ApiBailOut();
        F_FdeInit();
    ChannelT chan2;
       FilePathT *path2 = F_PathNameToFilePath((StringT)"C:\\Tools\\config\\CAconfig.xml", NULL, FDefaultPath);
        if ((chan2 = F_ChannelOpen(path2,"r")) == NULL)
            F_ChannelClose(chan2);
            F_FilePathFree(path2);
            return 0;  // file does not exist
        F_ChannelClose(chan2);
        F_FilePathFree(path2);
        return 1;  // file does exist

    This may be far too late to help you, but perhaps someone else will find value.  I ran into problems with F_ChannelOpen() with FDK9 and opening a text file as well, but found a solution that works for me.  (I also posted the following on the Yahoo FrameDev group yesterday.)
    OK, to answer my own question...
    Turns out I had to set up a few things for Unicode support. (This is an
    asynchronous client, by the way). I was already setting the working directory
    to $FMHOME for FM9 in order to avoid having to drag the ICU DLLs around with my
    executable.
    #include "fencode.h" // for FDK8/9 unicode support
    //for FDK8/9, set ICU unicode data dir to $FMHOME\fminit\icu_data...
    // StringT icu_dir previously defined elsewhere
    F_SetICUDataDir(icu_dir);
    F_ApiEnableUnicode(False);
    errstat=F_FdeInit();

  • My CC Indesign will not open

    On trying to open a CS6 Indesign job InDesign CC it will not open. I've tried other InDesign jobs and they open OK.

    See Adobe Forums: InDesign CS5.5 Not Responding for direction to get a hange reoprt and a crash report (which is more useful to most of us), and then we can maybe pin down the problem.
    Are you trying to open from the File menu, or by double-clicking the file?

    There is a script running which Noscript lets me forbid, called akamaihd.net. It runs a script which is the same as in html when you highlight a word then attach a url to it.
    I don't know why I am seeing it but not others. FF and Chrome seem susceptible to it. It's not malware as usually thought of because no virus/malware program finds it here.
    Unfortunately, I have to forbid this script for every site I visit.
    In the other thread where your browser displayed an 'i.trkjmp.com' link which isn't really in the web page, I gave you a Google link for info about the problem. You said that it must be something else. Well, for months now, Chrome and Firefox users have been troubled by extensions which cause the 'i.trkjmp.com' problem. You might want to revisit the link I gave you.
