InDesign won't startup

My InDesign V 6.0.6.622 quits at startup, i'm running Mac OS 10.6.8.
Firstly I uninstalled InDesign & reinstalled from the original disks CS4 Design Premium, still quitting.
Next I reinstalled the whole CS4 Suite and ran the updater, still quitting.
All through the above the rest of the CS4 apps run OK.
What do I do next ????????????

Does the splash screen complete and disappear before the crash? If not, what's the last message you see in the splash screen?
If it does, make sure the Recovery folder is empty and try again. It may be a bad file from a previous crash.
Fianlly, if you have a crash report, upload it to PateBin.com, NOT here, and then post a link to it here, and whyen he gets a moment, John will take a look, or you can try to decipher it yourself using the information in Guide to Interpreting InDesign Crash Reports | InDesignSecrets

Unfortunately InDesign does not reliably survive an OS upgrade. Please uninstall and reinstall InDesign.
Note, also, that you should take the maintenance update to 7.0.4.553. The version you have installed, 7.0.0, is quite buggy.

Trying to install Cs2 but old indesign won't uninstall or repair?

Trying to install the "new" posted on adobe, Cs2. Win vista for business. 1st step- add/remove programs. old indesign won't uninstall or repair! Get " was interrupted - try again" "can't find xxxxx file in dat 1 cabinet" ???
Searched forums for hours now! Help please!

Just went back through my start menu, and it CS, not CS2 that would not install under any condition on Windows 7. CS2 is running in the Windows XP mode Virtual Machine. XP mode is a free feature of Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate, and does not install on Vista.
That said, you can download and install Windows Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/virtual-pc-2007.aspx) which is a virtualization environment, and you can install Windows XP as a virtual machine from a set of XP disks.
There are people (and you seem to be one) who have successfully, more or less, gotten CS2 to install on Vista. I never ran Vista, so I'm shooting in the dark here a bit, but I would make the following recommendations for trying to get the programs installed:
First, run MSconfig and turn off all the unnecessary startup programs like Anti-virus and spyware scanners, third party firewalls, instant messengers, iTunes, browser helpers and toolbars, etc, and also go to the Services tab, hide all Microsoft services, and you can probably turn off just about everything that is left (lots of antivirus stuff runs as a service, for example). Re-boot into an adminsitrator account, cancel MSConfig when it reopens, and find the downloaded installer. If you have not already run the .exe file to extract the installer, do that next.
Once the installer is extracted, find the Setup.exe file, and right click it. In Windows 7 I have an entry to Troubleshoot Compatibility, and hopefully you have something similar. Choosing that gives me two options, Use Recommended Settings, which might work, but there's no indication of what they might be, or Troubleshoot Program. Choosing that should bring up another dialog where hopefully you can see a checkbox that says the program used to work in an earlier version, which you should check, and clear any others, then press next, which should bring up a list of previous versions where you can select Windows XP.
From there it should run the setup program in XP comaptibility mode, and once installed you should be able to set the program itself to also run in XP compatibility mode.
When the installation is complete you can run MSConfig again and click the Normal Startup radio button and reboot.

InDesign won't close files

I'm new her at InDesign-Scripting-Forum, but I have a great problem, and hope there is somebody out who can help me:
My problem is that InDesign won't close files which have been opened.
Just a little Javascript (I have reduced it to the minimum):

If this script starts from InDesign Javascript Panel, there are no problems or errors.
InDesign will open the file (1.indd), and closes the file, and no alert will appear.
But.... if the Javascript ist copied to the InDesign "startup script" folder, so that InDesign should
run this script on InDesign Startup,the alert will appear.
If you are running the script in a loop, just like working with 10 files of a current directory,
InDesign will show alert of 10 opened files at the end.
So.. at the end of the script, I want to move the (opened and closed) file to another directory.
But when InDesign "says" the file is opened, I cannot move or rename the file.
(It is only possible when running the script manually by the Javascript Panel).
Can anybody help me, so that I can close the file, or that InDesign will close the file
when running as a "startup-script"?

Installed helpdesk to sles11sp1 vmware and won't startup

Hi,
I installed the service desk to sles11sp1 for vmware and it won't startup.
I am also running zenworks configuration mgmt 11 RC3 on the same server.
I installed with:
java -install install.jar -console
When prompted for a port I took the default 8700. It gave me a null and then prompted for a 1 to continue. So I selected 1 and continued.
If I http://ip:8700 I get nothing.
If I netstat -a -n|grep 8700 I get nothing.
What do I need to do to get this to work? Also I thought I could get this service desk integrated with zenworks configuration management?

Firefox won't startup. Icon bounces once then stops. Mac G5 Mac OS 10.5.8 Was OK now it isn't.

Firefox won't startup so I can get to its preferences, profiles or anything else for that matter. This happens every time I try to start it up. I've recently reloaded my system software and transfered my systems settings from a backup hard drive that Time Machine (Mac app.) saved.

Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac.
Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

So it sounds as if your iPad is not responding at all when you try to turn it on, is that correct? If so, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
and he got an error message and said he could not open.
He said it is not possible.
He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
What do I do??

I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.

My TC won't startup with ethernet cables connected.

It will start up fine w/out ethernet cables, but with ethernet, it won't startup. I have two wired connections, my thunderbolt display/mbp and my cannon printer.
It will sit with amber light solid.
When I disconnect the two ethernet cables, it will startup fine. Then I connect the two cables and everything is good.
This is a new from apple store today 2tb TC. It's taken about 2 hours to get it setup until now I've figured out the ethernet cable issue. Is there a fix? I'm probably going to exchange it tomorrow or in the next couple of days if there's no fix provided.

Well, it's working fine today. I'll continue to try it over the next couple of days and if it happens more, I'll take it back for an exchange. It happend quite a few times last night.
I have apple care for my mbp, so this should be covered on it. About 1.5 years left.

Any clues as to how to re-install?

My G4 AGP won't startup after turning on firewire target disk mode

Can any one help me on this? I have a G4 AGP Graphics Mac running 10.4.11.
I turned on firewire target disk mode in the startup utilities to transfer files to my G5. The G4 started up in Firewire just fine and I could open it up as a drive on my G5, but the problem now is that the G4 won't startup in anything but firewire mode.
So my question is: How do you shut off the firewire target disk mode? I have tried all the keyboard commands at startup and inserted the Tiger install disk and holding the C key, but nothing will let me get me passed the Firewire Icon at startup.

It sounds like your hard drive is bad. If you can see it in Disk Utility you may still be able to get your files off of it. If you have one of the MacBooks with the removable battery it's very easy to put in a new hard drive.

Put your old hard drive in an external case and after you've formatted your new hard drive and installed your operating system on it plug in your old hard drive and see if it is recognized by the new system. If so then transfer whatever files you want to the new hard drive

InDesign 4 - Missing startup screen and toolbox

In InDesign 4, the startup screen does not show up when I try to get into InDesign. Also, I can't get toolboxes or any of the necessary tools I need to work with.
