InDesign won't "unhide"

I'm running Leopard (10.5.4) and InDesign CS3 (Version 5.0.3.662). InDesign sometimes won't "Hide" (Command+H or Option+Click on Desktop) and if by some miracle it does hide, then it won't Unhide. I have to Force Quit and restart it. Never have that problem with anything else I use: Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Firefox, etc. Is this a bug? Or is there any way to make it behave?

FWIW, I don't think this is entirely a Leopard issue as we are having the same problem with Tiger PPC installs. Have not tried the Launch, quit, launch workaround....but cmon, really?
To clarify the problem being seen... On G5 PPC, Mac OS 10.4.11, InDesign CS3 will not release the active finder window. By this I mean it will not let you minimize it, hide it, or use any other application without having to quit or click to the desktop numerous times. As soon as you get out of it, it will pop back to the front....try to edit an original in Photoshop and InDesign will not let you into Photoshop. Apple Tab to Photoshop, InDesign will pop up as soon as you are dropped into Photoshop. You get the picture...
Not happening on 10.5 Intel builds.

  • CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file

    CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
    I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
    and he got an error message and said he could not open.
    He said it is not possible.
    He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
    I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
    What do I do??

    I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
    And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.

  • Trying to install Cs2 but old indesign won't uninstall or repair?

    Trying to install the "new" posted on adobe, Cs2. Win vista for business. 1st step- add/remove programs. old indesign won't uninstall or repair! Get " was interrupted - try again" "can't find xxxxx file in dat 1 cabinet" ???
    Searched forums for hours now! Help please!

    Just went back through my start menu, and it CS, not CS2 that would not install under any condition on Windows 7. CS2 is running in the Windows XP mode Virtual Machine. XP mode is a free feature of Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate, and does not install on Vista.
    That said, you can download and install Windows Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/virtual-pc-2007.aspx) which is a virtualization environment, and you can install Windows XP as a virtual machine from a set of XP disks.
    There are people (and you seem to be one) who have successfully, more or less, gotten CS2 to install on Vista. I never ran Vista, so I'm shooting in the dark here a bit, but I would make the following recommendations for trying to get the programs installed:
    First, run MSconfig and turn off all the unnecessary startup programs like Anti-virus and spyware scanners, third party firewalls, instant messengers, iTunes, browser helpers and toolbars, etc, and also go to the Services tab, hide all Microsoft services, and you can probably turn off just about everything that is left (lots of antivirus stuff runs as a service, for example). Re-boot into an adminsitrator account, cancel MSConfig when it reopens, and find the downloaded installer. If you have not already run the .exe file to extract the installer, do that next.
    Once the installer is extracted, find the Setup.exe file, and right click it. In Windows 7 I have an entry to Troubleshoot Compatibility, and hopefully you have something similar. Choosing that gives me two options, Use Recommended Settings, which might work, but there's no indication of what they might be, or Troubleshoot Program. Choosing that should bring up another dialog where hopefully you can see a checkbox that says the program used to work in an earlier version, which you should check, and clear any others, then press next, which should bring up a list of previous versions where you can select Windows XP.
    From there it should run the setup program in XP comaptibility mode, and once installed you should be able to set the program itself to also run in XP compatibility mode.
    When the installation is complete you can run MSConfig again and click the Normal Startup radio button and reboot.

  • CS3 InDesign won't install, Mac  OS 10.5

    I've just received CS3 Design premium, and InDesign won't install. There is no reason given, just that it won't install. Shared components and Version Cue Server won't install either. I just upgraded to Leopard on a g5 Intel system. Any ideas on what to do next?
    Thanks,

    CS3 InDesign won't install, Mac OS 10.5
    Hi Darlene,
    I think I just got lucky - it hesitated a few times then finally clicked.
    One of the previous posters suggested to not install Version Cue, so I
    clicked that one off. Did you repair the permissions and restart before
    installing? Spin around 3 times clicking your heels saying, there's no
    program like InDesign?
    If you can stay in InD 2 I would suggest that, expecially if you use a lot
    of clipping paths. InD3 has a bug there that won't see interior paths, so
    you have to go back into Photoshop to rework the image. If I had only know
    that before.....
    Good luck!

  • InDesign won't close files

    Hallo everybody,
    I'm new her at InDesign-Scripting-Forum, but I have a great problem, and hope there is somebody out who can help me:
    My problem is that InDesign won't close files which have been opened.
    Just a little Javascript (I have reduced it to the minimum):
    var myFile="1.indd";
    // Open the file
    var myDoc=app.open(File(myFile));
    // Close the file
    myDoc.close(SaveOptions.no);
    if(app.documents.length > 0)
            alert("Still " + app.documents.length + " files opened");
    If this script starts from InDesign Javascript Panel, there are no problems or errors.
    InDesign will open the file (1.indd), and closes the file, and no alert will appear.
    But.... if the Javascript ist copied to the InDesign "startup script" folder, so that InDesign should
    run this script on InDesign Startup,the alert will appear.
    If you are running the script in a loop, just like working with 10 files of a current directory,
    InDesign will show alert of 10 opened files at the end.
    So.. at the end of the script, I want to move the (opened and closed) file to another directory.
    But when InDesign "says" the file is opened, I cannot move or rename the file.
    (It is only possible when running the script manually by the Javascript Panel).
    Can anybody help me, so that I can close the file, or that InDesign will close the file
    when running as a "startup-script"?
    Thanks very much.
    Martin.

    I have 8 MB of RAM. I restarted all the software, but not my computer.
    It is in the left column that I am having the problem.
    There was a previous discussion thread where a user on Mountain Lion was having the same issue, but it wasn't resolved in that discussion thread either.

  • Indesign won't let me save, save as or undo!

    Hi there.
    This started when I was working on a particular file and so I thought that one was corrupt but it now seems to be happening for every file I work on. It's a crisis to be honest.
    Indesign won't allow me to Undo, Save or even Save As. I am able to export but that's about it. All the other options are greyed out.e help??
    Can anyon

    If your using a eternal hard drive that only has a NTFS read, then you might want to save it to the computer but I'm not sure if that will work. But heres a link so that you could change the read only permissions.How can you change read only permissions on an external hard drive on a Mac?

  • Final cut won't unhide

    I'm having a problem with Final Cut 6.0.6. I hide the application and it won't unhide. I can play the timeline and hear audio but i can't see anything (no interface, no timeline, etc.). The application switcher tells me that it is running. The quit command won't work (neither cmd q nor holding over the icon and clicking quit). The only thing I can do is force quit. Not sure if it is related to the Safari update I did last night or not (all updates are loaded). I seem to be able switch programs and come back to FCP fine unless I use the hide command. Any help is appreciated.

    +Why is hiding FCP so important? I just don't understand why this is important to the editing process.+
    It depends on your work flow and personal preferences David. For instance, I frequently will have any number of other programs like Photoshop, After Effects, Pages, Safari, Mail, etc., open while I'm working in FCP, and will be going back and forth from program to program as necessary. The most comfortable workflow for me personally is to hide and unhide programs as I need them. The down side is that the more programs you have open, the more likely you are to run into sluggish system performance, especially on older or less capable systems.

  • Migrated InDesign won't launch

    I have a new MAC laptop and migrated my applications to it from my desktop computer. Now InDesign CS5 won't open. (Photoshop and Acrobat work fine.)
    How do I get InDesign back?
    I thought I could reinstall from the original disks so I trashed the app from the laptop -- and did not use Adobe uninstall, which might be a problem.
    But I'm not seeing an installer disk. Do I need to download from internet?
    Help!
    Thanks.

    Please follow the steps below to download the Indesign CS5 for MAC  :
    The workflow is :
    1. Navigate to the Indesign CS6 download page : http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=indesign
    2. Make sure you are signed in with your Adobe ID.
    3. Copy and paste the following link on the address bar and hit enter.
    Adobe InDesign CS5 English Mac
    http://trials2.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/IDSN/7/osx10/InDesign_7_LS1.dmg
    4. Save the file.
    5. After the file has been saved, Run the .dmg file to initiate the installation.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Ravi.

  • InDesign won't open... HELP!

    I just upgraded from CS to CS2. I use Illustrator and Photoshop daily, and I've already used ImageReady, so I know those all work, however, InDesign has yet to function properly. InDesign goes through it's opening process and gets to the welcome box, but once it's there, the program freezes and I get the spinning wheel of death (the "busy" rainbow wheel in the mac.) The only solution from there is right click/CTRL click + Force Quit and shut it down. I really need to get in for a project I started in CS (and have nearly completed) but the program won't even open.
    Does anyone have a suggestion on why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? I really need to use this program ASAP.
    THANKS!!
    Amanda

    Buko,
    I agree and I understand where you're coming from. I wouldn't want to help people with illegal software either. However, my previous actions were in response to your rude behavior. If you had simply asked for information, I would have been glad to provide whatever was needed. I don't respond well to people that act so brash - especially toward someone they have never met - and I'm sure other people in these forums would feel the same way. I don't appreciate being accused of pirating when I was not. (BTW, the copy of CS that I had been using for so long was TOTALLY pirated, so I finally got a legal copy and was thrilled.) I am being totally honest here and hope that you don't take this with a poor tone... I don't intend this to be nasty at all.
    I've never been here before or needed help with such problems, and since I am new to these forums I was unaware of what I should post. I will take note of the information from OldBob for the next time I need help. But in all honesty Buko, a nicer tone goes miles further than a nasty, sarcastic one. I'm no computer whiz, I've never been here before, and I'm just trying to find a solution to my frustrating problem. Getting such a nasty response right out of the gate was highly irritating and uncalled for. I'm sure you're very talented and can provide useful help, but your posts were very nasty.
    On a positive note, I would like to know more about what you meant with saying makes the software my software is not optimum for my setup. Is it CS2 or my system? And what can you suggest that would make this situation, at least, more tolerable? (Unfortunately the likelihood of me getting CS3 any time soon is very slim... I finally got my very cheap boss to spring for CS2 a month ago, I doubt he'll go for an upgrade already.)
    Thank you,
    Amanda

  • Indesign won't open

    I was using indesign yesterday for my school work and I think I ended up having to force quit it becuase it wasn't closing and today when I went to open it it won't open. It doesn't say why it just says indesign as quit unexpectedly. It won't even open in safe mode. Can anyone help me fix it??? I'm desperate as I have homework to finish on it!!

    You probably have a damaged file inthe recovery folder that is crashing as soon as ID restarts. With ID cloes, find the recovery folder -- since you haven't said what version, I'll send you to the Replace Your Preferences link and tell you that it is normall y in the caches folder wher you'd find InDesign Saved Data, and those locations are listed there for you -- and move everything in it to the desktop (you can probably delete it all later, but make sure you don't need it, first). ID should now restart, and if the original file is not damaged it should open at the last saved state, so you may have lost some work, but at least not the whole file.
