Index/Catalog search

Using Acrobat 8, I have created a single large PDF (ebook)of over 900 pages, and want to improve the searchability; i.e. include boolean queries. I have tried adding an embedded index, but this apparently doesn't allow boolean queries. It appears that I might need to use Catalog? However, we want to make the PDF easy to use for our users. Wouldn't Catalog create a separate index, which might be more complicated for people using Acrobat Reader? Isn't Catalog designed for searching multiple files? Can someone please help? Thanks a lot.

It creates a separate index file (pdx) but in the main document go to the Document Properties dialog and then the Advanced tab. There you can set the index file to be automatically associated with the ebook so that when users hit 'Search' the index will be the default search target.
If you want to make it really obvious, include a button that activates the Search pane on your ebook.
I'm still not sure whether the boolean option will be available though...

  • Using structure tag in a catalog search

    Hi there,
I would like to select numbers on docs that have been scanned and OCR, and search for these numbers via a catalog.
I tried to use the tag panel in the reading order panel, to create
    1) a root tag,
    2) then having selected the number, I try "define a tag from the selection" (or something like that, I have a french interface) to apply a Form tag to that number.
Then I build a catalog (a pdx file) and I try to add the structure tag : I have play with <Form>, Form, Formulaire, <Formulaire> .... it does not work. Despite the message that the index is well done, the numbers I have taged are not found when searching with the index file. Another way to go would be with metadata, but I would have to enter what's already in the pdf...
Thanks for any advice on this !
    François

    François,
Tagged search from Catalog works only on tagged document (the entire document should be tagged, not just one element).
    Try this -
    1. Tag your original document by using the option in Advanced>Accessibility.
    2. Now add specific tags to the document which you are interested in.
    3. Close the document and build a .pdx of out it (use exactly the same tag name that you specified in 2)
    4. Load the index in Search, you should see your tag name in the drop down in advanced search and the search should work.

  • Can Acrobat create an indexed catalog if all the pages were built in Illustrator?

My customer has a catalog which he created in CAD and saved as Illustrator EPS files with live text for us to print. Now he wants me to create an indexed catalog using Acrobat so that his customers can search anything they want within the catalog. My question is this: will the live text in the Illustrator EPS files be indexable and searchable? Or do I have to recreate all his tables in InDesign in order for the text to be indexable and searchable?
    Thank you for your help,
    CAartist

This isn't possible with Live Mail.  Acrobat has an add-in for Outlook (which you've used), but there is no similar function for Live Mail.

  • Approved and published items are not shown in the catalog search

    Hello all,
We are implementing SRM 4.0 SSP scenario .
To support shopping of EBP we are also implementing CCM 2.0 as an add on.
Please note CCM and EBP are on same client and CAT & CSE are also on the same client.
No XI is involved. The catalog scheme was uploaded as CSV 2.0. The items for the catalog was created manually in CAT.
Although the item has the status "approved" and the procurement catalog which is also the master catalog was published successfully the item is not shown after searching by CSE in EBP. Also the categories of the scheme are not shown in the catalog search.
Do i have to approve the categories too and if yes can you  explain me how to do this?
I think you see that I'm a newbie at srm and ccm and this problem is probably no real problem but I have not found any similar topics in the forum. So please can you help.
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Best regards,
    Bernd

Bernd: the reason I asked about views is that you don't have any error messages. This might indicate that (a) you have no items in the view, or (b) there's something wrong with view-role-user assignment.
To check for (a), please go to the published procurement catalog, and go to Views tab. Check that your View is Active. Click on your View ID link to display view details. You should see a list of characteristics assigned to your view in Assign Characteristics sub-tab (the list should not be blank!). Go to Assign Items sub-tab. Navigate in your schema to find items that are supposed to be assigned to your view. You should see "Yes" in the "Assigned" column for those products. If you don't, then you simply don't have any items in your view.
Another thing I'd like you to check: when the user calls your procurement catalog for search, do you see the name of the catalog displayed just below the drop-down "Select Categories Hierarchically"?
    Cheers,
    Serguei

We are having problems with Transparent Punch Out and OCI.
We are using HTTP POST, but when we create a SC what should we receive in SAP??
Should we receive raw HTML or submitted/posted HTML?? As far as I can see, we should receive raw HTML...or?
Furthermore, is it possible to do cross catalog search across MDM and a Transparent Punch Out Catalog?

  • Access to SRM-MDM Catalog search UI takes long time

    Hello,
We are facing a serious performance issue while accessing SRM-MDM 3.0 Catalog search UI in portal system. The response time is between 5 sec - 8 sec. Any suggestions ?
    I have already seen (Note 1077701 & 1138862)
    Thanks .

    Hi Shaikh.
    Some suggestions.
    1. You can restrict the number of records shown in the resultset page of the catalog when you launch.
    2. You can also restrict the number of fields shown in the resultset page of the catalog when you launch.
    3. If you don't need the picklist/hierarchy you can remove those
    4. Also you can limit the number of advance search fields.
Any other special developments(Using BADI) done during the call of catalog?
    Regards

  • How to show only Indexes in Search Scope

    Hi All,
Is it possbile to allow users to choose only Indexed in search scope.
I tried editing the Search Options set, there i found that I can enable and disable search scope, but whn search scope is enabled both the Indexes and folders are visible.
I want to show only Indexes to the user. How can I hide the folder options alone in the search scope?
    Thanks and Regards
    George

Instead of using the Search Options set in the KM Search iView, use the Search Component Set.
Create your own Search Component Set by going to <b>System Administration > System Configuration > Knowledge management > Content Management > User Interface > Search > Search Components</b>
While creating the Search Component Set, Specify <b>Component for Search Options</b> as <u>search_input_indexes</u>.
    This should help you.
Or you could do the following.
In the Search Options set, Do the following.
    1) Uncheck <b>Enable Search Scope Selection</b>.
    2) Provide the various index names in <b>Search Index IDs (csv)</b>
The above option would by default search the selected indexes for the search term and would not provide the user with the functionality of searching in folders.

  • If Image is Saved As a Text, Would the Image Text, As a Link, Be Indexed by Search Engines.

Hi I want to put a text long the height of the brown box.
The text would be vertical as one looking at the page.
I believe with page make the text can be rotated.
If Image is Saved As a Text, Would the Image Text, As a Link, Be Indexed by Search Engines.
or how else to do this?
    an

If Image is Saved As a Text
Impossible. It's either image or text.  Save a JPEG as a Word document.  Try it.  Seriously, change the file extension, open it in Word and see what happens.
Would the Image Text, As a Link,
    Huh?  You lost me here.
    Be Indexed by Search Engines.
Indexing of search engines.  Yes, Google sees links and Google sees alt text for images.  Google does not see images nor Flash.

  • Supplier Item Catalog - search screen query ~ tends to take 10 - 12 secs

I wanted to find out if any customer(s) out there has ever encountered this performance issue in the Supplier Item Catalog search screen. We setup an item catalog category using the supplier item but when we attempt to query on the item/supplier search, the search time takes up to 10 - 12 secs per find. Caveat, when you do search for the same item on the 2nd time; the return is alot quicker. It seems the parsing is the issue but we are still trying to figure a resolution to the performance factor. Thanks.

    Hi Hussein,
Thanks for the reply back. Unfortunately, we tried to apply both patches (recommended patch (5404474) v. the previous patch(5567690) but it did not work . We actually have a TAR opened with Oracle support. I'd thought that with this Oracle forum site, other customers may have the similar performance issue and hopefully a recommended resolution. At this point, Oracle support mentioned the issue lies in the parsing segment of the query.

  • Index/catalog & encrypt PDF files

    Hi,
I wish to archive thousands of PDF invoices. I can do this quite easily by putting them on a CD or DVD and creating a catalog Index... however I also wish to encrypt each document and password protect it. Again this is easily achieved by creating a batch process to add Security. When I have done this the catalogue index does not work anymore - it doesn't work either when I select "Encrypt all documents except metadata (acrobat 6 and later compatible)".
Does anyone know how to index/catalog & encrypt PDF files?
    I use Vista SP1 & Acrobat pro Extended 9.0.0
    Thanks.
    Elfed.

Right of course, I'm a little tired this morning.
I copied over my new js file(s) to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Javascripts folder.
Now that I have done that, I run the following code and get the error shown at the bottom:

    CAcroAVDoc avDoc = (Acrobat.CAcroAVDoc)Activator.CreateInstance(AcrobatCAcroAppType);

  • Problem with hide TOC, Index ans Search

    Hello,
I want to generate a chm where TOC , Index ans Search are
hide when I open my chm.
I don't find a solution to do this.
I try to find in creating a new "Window", but I doesn't
    operate.
If someone have a solution, thanks to tell me,
because I'm going to loose lots of time for that...

    Hi vlavergne,
In theory you should be able to hide the TOC, Index and
    Search simply by selecting
Hide Nav Pane on Startup in the Window properties. However,
after a bit of experimentation it seems that you also have to
    deselect the
Remember Window Size and Position option.
    Hope this helps

    Please check:
    1) Values of in engineDir and deployShare in LaunchingService component
    2) Search environment name
    3) To create a full index, the indexing engine requires a clean partition, a file from which all indexes are created: /atg/search/routing/RoutingSystemService
You need to identify the location of the clean partition by creating a /localconfig/atg/search/routing/RoutingSystemService.properties file. Use the cleanPhysicalPartitionPath property
to identify the full path to the clean partition. There is a copy of the clean partition located at <Searchdir>/SearchEngine/operatingsystem/data/initial.index. To resolve the path
correctly, use a relative path to identify the clean partition location as a local copy. For example: cleanPhysicalPartitionPath =../data/initial.index
