Index still fragmented after rebuild

I have a database 2008R2 with 97% of average fragmented index and page counts = 164785 and the index table is more than 300,000 rows.
I use the ola.hallengren script to optimize index and the stat above provided by the IndexCheck.sql script.
My question is why after the index fragmentation above has been rebuilt the fragmentation is very much the same as before. The indesc has been rebuilt because it's lager than 30% and page count is larger than 1000 .
However, if a copy of that database has been restored on a different server, the fragmentation is much below than 30%.

  • How to identify performence benefit after rebuilding of index in Oracle app

    In our EBS,

    We got a script from metalink, which identfies the indexes which needed to be rebuild.
    My query is how to capture performence benifits after rebuilding of indexes??
    Plz help me guyz....

    Hi,
    In our EBS,What is the application release? DB version?
    we have planned to rebuild the indexes.Why? Any specific reason? Do you have any performance issues?
    We got a script from metalink, which identfies the indexes which needed to be rebuild.
    My query is how to capture performence benifits after rebuilding of indexes??You should see the impact on the performance in general, especially when (opening the forms, entering new data, updating existing records, running concurrent programs, ..etc).
    One other way is to generate the TKPROF file for any scenario you have a performance issue with before and after running the script.
    Thanks,

  • After rebuild a index need do more something?

    If i move the indexes of "TESTE" schema to other tablespace and that indexes have been access for user "TESTEC" i will need to grant and recriate sinonym again for the that user?
    O will use:
    select     'alter index "'||owner||'"."'||index_name||'" rebuild tablespace "'||tablespace_name||'" ;' cmd
    from     dba_indexes
    where     owner = 'TESTE'
    TKS,
    ELBER.

    I usually do the following
    1) set sort area big:
    -- Check the available memory on the OS with top.
    -- If you go overboard on the memory allocation, sar –g will show paging
    -- I usually set the sort_area_size some where between 200 and 900 meg to speed up index rebuilds
    alter session set workarea_size_policy='MANUAL';
    alter session set sort_area_size=900000000;
    alter session set sort_area_retained_size=900000000;
    2) use the following to rebuild each index so I can control the parallelism:
    -- can also use online compress parallel 8
    alter index "&1"."&2" rebuild parallel 8 nologging tablespace &3;
    alter index "&1"."&2" noparallel;
    execute dbms_stats.gather_index_stats('&1','&2',estimate_percent=>3)
    3) You can also control the parallelism by setting:
    parallel_min_percent=25
    parallel_min_servers=10
    parallel_max_servers=100

  • Best way to restore game app data to iPad after rebuild

    I rebuilt my UMBP over the weekend. Before doing so I took a copy of my documents, movies etc, and the entire iTunes library folder and placed it onto an external HDD. This was not a Time Machine backup, but a straight copy. After rebuilding, reinstalled latest iTunes and copied just the songs back across and re-authorized the library. I didn't copy the entire folder into the new place, but I still have all the items.
    When I went to connect the wifes iPad for sync, it begins the whole "new device" process and must be "erased to sync." Problem with this is she has one or two apps on there with significant game data (Bejeweled for instance) that she doesn't want to loose.
    Any advice on best way to resolve this, i.e. able to connect the iPad and sync to rebuilt machine without losing the data? Can I obtain the old backup(s) from the folder and use that or am I better just copying the entire folder across from the external drive onto the rebuilt machine. I did have a search and while there is plenty of backup / restore advice, nothing seems to match my situation 100%.
    Thanks in advance.

    Try to backup manually. Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your device, right click on it in the device list and choose backup. This will copy all settings, photos and 3rd party data including your game settings to iTunes. Do the same thing to transfer your purchases to be sure to have the latest apps and media copied over.
    Set up at least one contact and event on the computer, so that calendars and contacts are being merged during the first sync.
    Since all data will be erased during this first sync, use this backup to restore your settings afterwards.

  • Appel Mail still Crashing after several measures

    Mac Book Pro unibloc 2.8 Ghz 10.5.8 Mail 3.6; 4 IMAP accounts
    During downlaoding messages Mail was regularly crashing. As drastical measure I
    - replaced the whole mail folder from a TimeMachine backup
    - replaced the whole prefs folder
    - deleted the envelope index
    Mail did then rebuild the index, fetched missing mails and seemed to work. After a restart Mail is again crashing. In the activity window one can see all the blue white pattern in the progress bar freezing after a while and after some seconds mail crahes.
    What else can I do?

    Undo whatever you did with the icon, and unload/remove all the non-Mac plugins, enhancers, bundles or whatever.

  • Link to iTunes Media folder after rebuild

    I kept my iTunes Media folder on a separate drive.  After rebuilding my system I linked iTunes to my folder (Preferences / advanced) and it doesn't pick it up.

    Hi Appletart5000,
    Thanks for the update and letting me know it did not resolve the issue for you.  I'd say at this point a new library with the media added back might be the way to go.  Using the article from earlier, you'd want to create a new library and then locate the media files and add them into iTunes:
    Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
    Open iTunes
    From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
    Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
    If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
    If that still doesn't work or you've already tried that with a new library, you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources:

  • Photo disappear after rebuilding library

    Hi all,
    It's very sad thing to happen on x'mas.. hope i can get some help here.
    I don't know what cause the problem... so i'd better describe everything i've done.
    My friend sent me some photos in his iphone to my email.
    I then saved all those photos on my iphone.
    I've checked them on camera roll after downloading..and it still works.
    then i load the app "Polarize", and try to load the photos from camera roll.
    Then it said there's no photos..
    so then i went back to photo... it then started to "updating library" / rebuilding library...
    then i waited... after rebuild...several hundreds of photos are gone...
    I tried to restart...and they are still gone...
    Since my laptop has taken to maintenance, it hasn't been backed up for a while now...
    Please kindly suggest any solution...

    Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a  backup copy) of the library and try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • How CSSCAN determines which indexes need to be rebuild ?

    Hi everybody,
    i'm currently migrating 3 Oracle databases that contain CP1252 characters unproperly stored in WE8ISO8859P1 instances.
    The key steps of the migration are :
    1. ALTERing CHARACTERSET to WE8MSWIN1252
    2. changing CHARACTER SEMANTIC LENGTH for CHAR and VARCHAR2 columns
    3. truncating data stored in VARCHAR2(4000) columns
    2. Full export
    3. Full import in a ALL32UTF8 instance
    To do all of this (and especially the step 3), i use the CSSCAN utility (very practical !!!).
    And i have a question about CSSCAN: how CSSCAN determines which indexes need to be rebuild. What is the logic ?
    Looking at the CSSCAN report, i have a lot of cells/columns that are affected by the characterset migration, and i have just a few index to rebuild.
    Why would i like to understand the logic ? Because i would like to rebuild ONLY indexes that REALLY need to be rebuilt and i am not sure that all the indexes specified by CSSCAN really need to be rebuilt.
    Thanks for any information about that.
    (and sorry for my english)
    NB: i have managed "function-based indexes" specifically: i drop them before the export, and i recreate them after the import. So my question mostly target the "regular indexes"

    1. All indexes whose key contains at least one character column with convertible or exceptional data, excluding indexes with names equal to some constraint name for the same owner.
    plus
    2. All functional indexes on tables that have columns needing conversion, excluding indexes with names equal to some constraint name for the same owner.
    The condition regarding constraints does not seem to be very fortunate but it comes from times when the appropriate flag in index metadata was not yet available.
    But note that in your migration scenario, you do not actually have to care much about indexes. Step 1 & 2 do not need any modifications to the user data and hence to index contents. Step 3, if done through UPDATE, will modify affected indexes automatically. Step 4 does not affect the database. Step 5 will recreate all existing indexes anyway.

  • Index is fragmented

    How can we know – Index is fragmented and re-built is required

    By Searching myself got some references:
    i am including hereby:
    From Sridhar's Oracle pages:
    http://oracle-core.blogspot.com/2007/04/moving-rebuilding-and-or-resizing.html
    How to identify indexes with "excessive" logically deleted rows.
    The first place to look is at any dynamic table I.E. Interface and temporary tables.
    Once the target tables have been identified, obtain a list of index names by using the following example SQL*PLUS script.
    SELECT index_name
    FROM dba_indexes
    WHERE owner = 'SCOTT'
    and table_name = 'EMP'
    For each of the indexes identified, execute the validate index command followed by the SQL*PLUS script shown below to obtain the results of the validate index command. Note: The index_stats table holds only one row.
    SQL> validate index gl.gl_interface_n1
    Index analyzed.
    SQL>
    Use the following SQL*PLUS script to obtain the results.
    column A heading "Index Name" format a30
    column B heading "Rows" format 999,999,990
    column C heading "Deleted|Rows" format 999,999,990
    column D heading "% Del" format 990.0
    SELECT name A,
    lf_rows B,
    del_lf_rows C,
    (del_lf_rows * 100 ) / lf_rows D
    FROM index_stats
    I usually rebuild indexes that have more than 20 % logically deleted rows.
    Rebuilding an index.
    The following PL*SQL script will build an SQL*PLUS script to drop and then recreate the index.
    Note: The storage clause and the index owner's password in the output file will have to be modified before you execute the resulting script. Modifying the storage clause will allow you to resize and or move the index.

    NOTE 1: If the index is being used by another user, you will not be able to either validate or drop the index.
    NOTE 2: Beware of the primary key constraint.
    General details about the index can also be found by:
    Analyze index compute statistics;
    Select * from user_indexes
    where index_name= ‘’;
    To obtain further detail about an index:
    Analyze index validate structure;
    The command:
    Validate index ;
    Performs the same function.
    This places detailed information about the index in the table INDEX_STATS. This table can only contain one row, describing only the one index. This SQL also verifies the integrity of each data block in the index and checks for block corruption.
    For example, to get the size of an index:
    validate index ;
    select name "INDEX NAME", blocks * 8192 "BYTES ALLOCATED",
    btree_space "BYTES USED",
    (btree_space / (blocks * 8192))*100 "PERCENT USED"
    from index_stats;
    This assumes a block size of 8K (i.e. 8192 bytes). It shows the number of bytes allocated to the index and the number of bytes actually used.
    Note that it does not confirm that each row in the table has an index entry or that each index entry points to a row in the table. To check this:
    Analyze table validate structure cascade;

  • How to get Outlook email indexed by Spotlight after reinstalling Office 2011?

    I reinstalled Office 2011 and my Outlook email index stopped updating. I forced a reindex of the entire drive, but the email still wasn't indexing. Stopped by the Genius Bar and they suggested reindexing the drive and repairing permissions (didn't work).

    Hi
    As per the information and details provided by you, to get Outlook email indexed by spotlight after reinstalling Office 2011, please follow these steps: -
    Outlook provides a custom importer to Spotlight to index email. It is typically found in:
    "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Microsoft Outlook.app/Contents/Library/Spotlight/Microsoft Outlook.mdimporter",
    You can use the command
    /usr/bin/mdimport –L to list all installed importers. When I did that I saw that the importer from the old installation of Outlook was still installed because it was still in the trash can. When I tried to manually import an email using the
    command usr/bin/mdimport –d2 /[ path ]/x00_138.olk14Message I saw that it was failing to load the importer from the trash.
    Emptying the trash fixed the issue. Wish there was a way to selectively empty the trash without deleting everything.
    Once I emptied the trash,  had to force Spotlight to reindex the email folder by adding the /Users/jim/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder to Privacy
    tab of Spotlight System Settings, and then removing it again. After spotlight reported the indexing was complete (via the Spotlight dropdown in the upper right) the email was all indexed again.
    I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

  • Messages disappeared from my Inbox after Rebuilding

    Hi,
    I accidentally clicked on "Rebuild" in Mail and messages of the last 3 months have disappeared from my Inbox. However, they are still there in the Mail folder on the hard disk. How do I make them reappear in my Inbox?? Help!!

    I had the same problem, after rebuilding, the Inbox was empty. I tried all the fixes I found here and on the forum numerous times with no luck. I was able to recover most email using a Time Machine restore, but the Inbox still was not accepting any new mail. Finally, realizing that my MobileMe mail server was fine, and that Mail continued to work on my iPod, I opened my Mail preferences and deleted my MobileMe account from the machine, and then added it back, configured exactly as it was before. Bingo! Everything is back to normal.

  • Lagged games after rebuild.

    Recently after purchasing a new case/power supply and doubling my ram, I have run into some problems with Quake 3. After rebuilding into my new case, I began to hear a strange noise, which I thought was the fan on my gpu. After this started, Quake 3 seems to skip frames and simply does not run as smoothly. I jumped to conclusions a bit to quick and replaced my gfx card with a 8800 gts, but I'm still having the same problem. Here are my specs:
    Asus M2N Motherboard
    AMD 5200+ 2.6ghz dual core
    2GB ram (before rebuild) 4GB ram (after rebuild)
    evga nvidia 7900gs (before rebuild) evga nvidia 8800gts (after rebuild)
    Antec NeoPower 650 650W ATX12V (after rebuild)
    Oddly enough, whatever is causing this lag doesn't seem to affect the FPS I get in-game. If I turn off the FPS cap, I get a steady 700FPS. I've had the same problems on Arch 32/64 and Ubuntu 32/64.
    I should also point out that the noise I hear only happens in-game. I also heard this noise on a web page using flash, specifically when flash was used to blend one image into another. While the noise is less apparent after changing video cards, I still hear it occasionally.
    Any suggestions on what might be causing this lag or any tests I can run to figure it out would be great.
    EDIT: The FPS does in fact drop briefly when the game lags.

    I have the same problem when playing these games using a live cd.
    Next is a Memtest.
    EDIT: Memtest was fine.
    So I now know it is not the hard drive or memory.
    Whats left is the CPU, the gfx card and my motherboard. Any suggested tools for testing these?
    EDIT #2: I ran glxgears, and when fullscreened the gears noticeably "skip". Here is the output, not that it has much useful info:
    42084 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8406.283 FPS
    41918 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8374.288 FPS
    41382 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8272.180 FPS
    41650 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8323.735 FPS
    41582 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8300.653 FPS
    41561 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8302.409 FPS
    26164 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5213.594 FPS
    9271 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1854.175 FPS
    9306 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1861.137 FPS
    9237 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1847.315 FPS

    I've run this by the folks from Cakewalk forums and had some suggestions to try but to no avail.
    http://forum.cakewalk.com/sonarstdexe-still-runs-after-I-close-and-exit-program-m2960813.aspx
    There is nothing on this in google that I can find "wdmaud!CWAVRenderer::FreeResources+0x8f"
    Just wondering if there is anything I can do to see if I can fix my system, others in the forum can't replicate this issue...
    Would re-installing the audio driver help?  I don't want to do this unless I have to or if there are any other suggestions to try...
    Thanks in Advance
    Jim

    Hi,
    There are no physical audio or midi devices attached.  I have HP ENVY 17 j005xt Notebook PC and has built-in audio HDT High Definition Audio CODEC sound card - and has the latest available drivers for this card already installed supplied by HP
    as OEM.
