Indexing - Flashhelp

When I run the Smart Index Wizard I get index keywords that
are hidding behind expanded text. Can I get RoboHelp not to take
words that are part of the expanded text?
Thanks

The smart index wizard doesn't differentiate between text in
the main topic area or elsewhere. The best bet is to manuall index
the topic.

  • IE 7 and Context-Sensitive FlashHelp

Hi all, I'm hoping that you can brainstorm with me. I have a
FlashHelp system with context-sensitive topics that are called from
    the application using the
start_page.htm#topic_name.htm syntax. Up to now, this has
worked really well in all browsers (IE, Netscape, Firefox, Safari,
etc.). In the new IE 7, however, making this kind of call doesn't
display the CS topic, but instead opens the default topic
(start_page.htm). Likewise, the URL in the browser window only
    displays
    start_page.htm, with the
#topic_name.htm info removed. From testing we've done, it
appears that IE 7 receives the complete help call, but then somehow
ignores or truncates the CS topic info.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas as to what is
causing it or (more importantly) how I might work around it?
    Thanks,
    Melinda

The updating of the help topic is distinct from the problem you are encountering. I believe this is a bug in FlashHelp.

  • FlashHelp files not displaying in topic pane

I have generated FlashHelp using RoboHelp 7. I then copied
the FlashHelp folder to a server via FTP.
When I view the ...index.htm file in the !SSL! folder on my C
drive, the system displays correctly. When I view the ...index.htm
file in the FlashHelp folder on the server, the .htm files are not
displaying in the topic pane. It states "Internet Explorer cannot
display the webpage. On the first page of the FlashHelp wizard, I
have the output folder and start page designated
    (...!SSL!/FlashHelp/Index.htm). The default topic is
    GettingStarted\home.htm.
    Any suggestions?

If the toolbar and left pane are loading, the scripts must be
working correctly. Do you have a way to view a list of the files
that are actually on the server and verify that all your HTML
    topics are present?
The reason I ask is that I had trouble recently with one
project in which I was getting application (Java "FileNotFound")
errors in my topic pane when accessing the help through the
application. I use version control, however, and once I had deleted
my files from the repository and then checked them in again, the
problem seemed to be fixed. But if you are doing FTP directly to
the server, you are probably not dealing with application builds.
In any case, the problem appeared to be that the server was not
recognizing that the files were actually there.

  • Flash Help Index search hangs on "a"

If you use the keyword search on the Index tab of a FlashHelp
site (RoboHelp6), it works fine until you try to return to the "a"
part of the list. Typing "a" hangs up the search and you have to
refresh the page for anything to work again.
    Here's the pattern:
    1. User searches for a letter that is not "a" on the Index
    tab
    2. User then type "a" in the Index tab's entry field and
presses Enter. The whole page hangs up and won't do anything until
    you refresh the page.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any fixes?

Okay...after four hours or so of uninstalling/reinstalling, I
finally figured it out. Vista wanted me to run it as an
administrator. For whatever reason, that must've been what was
causing the weird lock-up. It works fine if I do that. Funny thing
was I wasn't running it as administrator last week. Must be a
    stupid Microsoft update.
    Oh, well....

  • Index entries are backwards

I am working on RoboHTML 7.0 with a project generated as
FlashHelp. In the generated FlashHelp project, when I type a
keyword into the Index "Type in the Keyword to find" box, it
    appears backwards.
For example, if I type in the word Data, it appears as
    "ataD."
    -OR-
Sometimes I type in the "D" (for Data) and it appears in the
text box, but when I type in the "a", it deletes the "D" and
displays the list of "a" words. Then when I type in the "t" it
deletes the "a" and goes to the "t" words.
Either way, it never works correctly. This is so weird. Any
help you can give me will be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    pat

Would that be affected by the language setting in File |
    Project Settings?
Is it only happening in RH? I know Word has RTL support,
don't recall seeing anything similar in RH, but then again I've
    never looked for it. :)

  • Duplicate index links

    Hi,
We're using RH 7.03.001 for a project. When we generate our primary layout (FlashHelp), the index works fine until we post on our Intranet. Once it's posted, we link to the htm file and if you click on Index and then click on a keyword, the results are duplicated and sometimes they repeat 3 times (see screenshot below). When we test this on a local PC or laptop, there are no repeat results. Any suggestions on what to check to resolve this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there
Your image suggests that the index term is linked to two topics that may be titled identically. Have you scrutinized the index term carefully to ensure this isn't the case?
I suppose it's also possible that you have somehow managed to merge systems in a manner where the same topic (or topics) are listed more than once.

  • FlashHelp

    Hi,
can anybody help? I have created a project using Robohelp
HTML, when I publish to flash help everything looks great. However,
when I copy the published file to CD, including the auto run file,
the project attempts to open but does not show the Flash content. I
get the script on the right-hand side of the page but no menu
system. I have tested it on various computers some work, some do
not. I cannot find what they reason for the not showing is.
I suspected it may be a Flash version issue, but I do not
think so. I have tested on Windows 2000 and after loading Flash it
seems to work. However on Windows XP both home and professional,
even after installing Flash 9 the project will not display.
This is very frustrating. Can anybody help please.
    Cheers/Ken

    Hi elijaho
For starters, note that a help file typically has
Three totally different ways to access information.
    1. Table of Contents (TOC)
    2. Index
    3. Full text Search (FTS)
The TOC operates like a virtual book, providing links
directly to the chapters and content that appears there. The Index
also operates like a virtual book, simply listing terms that
organize information a bit differently than the TOC. The FTS allows
the user the ability to search for ANY word that appears in the
file, as long as it is not on the "stop list".
If you think about the name "Smart
Index Wizard, you should see the first hint that this does
    nothing related to FTS.
As for how it actually works, I do believe that is somewhat
of a mystery. Particularly within the FlashHelp output type. With
WebHelp output, all of it is driven by elaborate JavaScripting. I
know that during the WebHelp generation process, every word in the
project (with the exception of words in the stop list) are
"indexed" behind the scenes and a list is created that is used for
FTS. With FlashHelp output, I believe that what JavaScript does for
WebHelp output, ActionScript does for FlashHelp. The ActionScript
is similar to JavaScript, but resides in the Flash components that
make up FlashHelp navigation. Indeed, they are probably reading the
.XML files that accompany a FlashHelp system. However, to my
knowledge nobody has ever documented this. I do know that a
FlashHelp SDK exists that attempts to help with creating FlashHelp
    skins and whatnot.
The bottom line here is that with FlashHelp, you will need a
unique blend of talents. You need to be a Help author that also is
conversant with Flash. And not simply Flash, but Flash
ActionScripting. I could be wrong here, but I think that's a pretty
    rare blend.
Aside from the FlashHelp SDK that ships with RoboHelp, I'm
totally unaware of any other information on the subject. I do wish
you the very best of luck in locating what you need.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • FlashHelp stalls when compiling

    FlashHelp stalls when compiling
    Generating FlashHelp systems stalls
    Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing an issue i've never encountered before. I
    hope someone can help.
First my system: I'm using RoboHelp 5.02 (Has all the updates
    installed) FlashHelp Skin
    Micorsoft XP Professional
    Service Pack 2
    Pentium 4 3 GHz
    .99GB of RAM
I am working directly off my C drive, NOT over a network.
I've never experienced this until now.
    The problem:
Today i made some updates for a client (Changed some text,
updated a few PDF docs) and that was it. I went to the "Single
Source Layouts" and FlashHelp is our primary skin. Doubled clicked
on FlashHelp (The settings have never been changed, so it's Click
on Next, Next, and then Finish and it starts compiling.) For
troubleshooting sake, i have "Local PC or Intranet selected, Next
window, i have "Content, Index, Search, Glossary" check marked, I
have "Synchronize TOC check marked and set to Automatically, and
"Show Navigation Pane Link in Topics checked, Next window, I have
the ouput on my C drive to C:\RoboHelp_DeVry, In the "Options" area
i ONLY have "Prompt before overwriting files (no overwriting in
Batch mode)" checked. Next i click on the "Finish" button. Starts
    compiling / generating.
Everything is running great, no error messages, nothing. Now
it gets to the part when it says "Generating FlashHelp System" and
you can see what it's updating in the "Output" section and as soon
as it's done updating all the files it Stops / Freezes here
"Finished updating HTML topics in 67 sec(s) : total 1454
topic(s).". Now i have to wait about 18 mins and then it starts
again and then i can finally Publish. After it publishes this is
    the "Output" info
Finished updating HTML topics in 67 sec(s) : total 1454
    topic(s).
    Processing Full-text-search data...
    Finished processing Full-Text-Search data in 26 sec(s)
    Applying FlashHelp 1.00 Template...
Finished applying Template in 10 sec(s)
Finished compiling FlashHelp in 1255 sec(s)
    It says 1255 sec(s)?? That's about 20 mins. How come it's
taking 20 mins to do all of this?? Again there is no error
    messages.
    2nd try:
Finished updating HTML topics in 67 sec(s) : total 1454
    topic(s).
    Processing Full-text-search data...
    Finished processing Full-Text-Search data in 27 sec(s)
    Applying FlashHelp 1.00 Template...
Finished applying Template in 14 sec(s)
Finished compiling FlashHelp in 1292 sec(s)
1292 secs this time. Could it be that the FlashHelp needs to
be updated? Do i need to delete a file and have RoboHelp
    re-generate it again?
Here is the info before it starts compiling:
    Starting compilation...

May be non or related to the issue. About a week and a half
ago, i opened up this project and right in the middle of RoboHelp
opening my computer shuts down unexpectedly. I turned my computer
back and re-opened the project and RoboHelp gave me an error
message and said to delete the CPD file because it was corrupted.
So i deleted the CPD file and waited for almost 40 mins for the
project to fully open so i could work on it. After i made the
updates i published it and it worked just fine. Today is the first
time i or anyone else has worked on it and now it's doing this.
Any help or suggestion would be greatful!! I don't want to
wait 20 mins every single time.
    Thanks!
By the way, even though "Republish All" is NOT check marked,
RoboHelp still publishes the entire project. Is it possible that's
the reason for the 20 mins wait? I don't see how it could be,
because the "Publishing" starts after the compiling, right?

Have you tried creating a new Single Source Layout
    (FlashHelp) then compile. Might work.
    Hope this helps,
    Brian

  • Merging FlashHelp Projects?

    I dreamed that I could do this, didn't I?
Is there an "easy" way to merge FlashHelp projects? I've got
one project that I need to insert into two other projects.
I know I can import the files and hard code the TOC - but
that's not going to work for a long term solution - I'm going to be
    doing that constantly.
Tell me I'm just missing the answer in the help files... Is
there a plug in solution? Anything??? Otherwise I'm going to end up
with the same set of files in multiple help systems - and that will
    be a nightmare, too.

    Hi Crystal
WebHelp and FlashHelp are basically like the mythological
Janus. They are simply two different faces on the same information.
The only real difference (aside from the fact you can merge one but
not the other) is that the TOC, Index and Search are presented
using Flash components. This has no bearing on whether you can
include Flash movies within your content. Flash movies should work
with WebHelp equally as well as they work with FlashHelp.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Context-sensitive FlashHelp from a Client App - Has it EVER been done?

We are trying to call context-sensitive FlashHelp from a .NET client application. I've found posts from people with the same problem - they can't get it to work. The help window and main topic appear, but the topic context-sensitive portion of the address (pound sign and after) is ignored.  In the comments at the end of the online help topic "Program Help for .NET" (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/RoboHelp/8.0/RoboHTML/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11aff59c571-7f3 9.html) the administrator states that the information will be updated in April, 2009. Still nothing. Any solutions out there?

  • Security issues w/ Flashhelp

    Hello all,
I have just started to work for a new company who has used
Flashhelp to create an online FAQ / KB. This FAQ should of course
only be accessible to our clients... but it seems to be accessible
to anyone hitting the correct entry! Would anyone know where I
could find any ressources concerning security / admin access with
    Flash Help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    Paul,
As far as I know, RoboHelp doesn't have any ability in itself
to manage security. The way we have handled security or role issues
is to use conditional build tags. When you generate your output,
you specify a directory for the output and set a conditional build
expression. You can create any number of expressions.
For example, you could have one tag called "simple" and
another called "power." You apply the "simple" tag to topics and
text you want only the simple users to see, and the "power" tag to
topics and text you want only the power users to see. (Any content
that applies to all users doesn't need a tag applied.) Then you
generate the "simple" version of the output to one directory
(example: .../faq/simple/index.htm) and the "power" version to a
    different directory (example: .../faq/power/index.htm).
At this point it's up to the programmers or developers to
somehow grant the users access as appropriate. We deal with Web
applications that use Java, so the Java has been coded with logic
that recognizes the user's role and goes to the corresponding
directory and version of the help when the user clicks the Help
    link.
Hope this helps, though you posted over 2 months ago. (I need
to check this forum more often...)

  • Index Keyword Jump

Has anyone else run into this problem in the FlashHelp index?
If I type in a word, the index jumps to that word or the
nearest word. However, the scrollbar stays at the top so I can't
scroll back to the top. I first have to scroll down and then up.
Our QA bugged this as a low priority, and it is an annoyance that
I'd rather not have users get confused over. I reported it as a bug
on this site, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this.
I'm thinking you'd have to be a Flash developer to figure out why
this doesn't work because it seems like a problem in the Flash
    skin.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    This
thread ran in March. I brought up this issue because it was
closely related. Someone recently referred to that thread and asked
    me privately if I'd come across a solution, and I haven't. I
replied to that effect, and this person said, "I just talked
(virtually) with Peter Grainge. He is telling Adobe about it.
I’m very willing to test any fix they come out with prior to
releasing it to everyone. I’ll let you know if I get a fix
    from Adobe."
I'll try to remember this thread and the March one in case I
    hear anything.

  • Merging FlashHelp/FlashHelp Pro

I have published a mergedproject in the FlashHelp output
using RH7 to the RHServer 7. It merges the TOC seamless for all
projects listed in the mergedproject folder. The master is a shell
only. The html topic in there simply redirects to an intro topic
(located in a child project). The Index works fine and you can see
all the index terms regardless of the child project where they are
located. I only have 2 issues at this point:
    1) The glossary term displays 2-4 definitions. It's like if
the term is found in all 4 child projects, it lists them all. Each
child project has it's own glossary. Anyone know why? I don't want
to merge the glossary to one as the child projects will continue to
    be added.
    2) The search function does not seem to be working. I had it
working once, but then I turned off all the glossaries
to see if I could get the duplicating definitions to stop.
When I reactivated them, the search still does not work. So not
sure there is a correlation there.
I found this thread that talked about 3 files that need to be
    in the FlashHelp output:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=65&catid=447&threadid =1324503&highlight_key=y&keyword1=merged%20projects
In this thread it states that the output should have these
    folders and associated file:
    whdata
    whgdata
    whxdata
I have the last 2 in the list but not the first one whdata.
How do I get the whdata folder/files to generate (I looked in the
SSL output folder, but it's not there either for any of the
projects? And does anyone know what these files are for?
Peter -- thanks for your topic on Merging WebHelp, works for
FlashHelp 7 too. I created a master project with multiple masters
and multiple children. This is soo cool. The Parents_Project has 6
masters (containers) and 4 (and growing) children projects. The
only difference is that I had to point to the mastername.htm versus
the index_childname.htm. However, the mastername.htm calls that
index page and other than the glossary and search issues listed
    above, things work wonderfully.
Sorry, I digressed again. Now back to our regularly schedule
    issue.
    Cindy

Peter -- let's drop the whole FlashHelp Pro for the moment.
Yes, I understand the different outputs. I am outputing FlashHelp
to our internal server which just also happens to have Server 7 on
it. I don't know that the server piece is or is not interferring
with FlashHelp. All I know is this is how we have always published
our FlashHelp to the server and that server has always had RH
Server on it. The only way we have ever gotton FlashHelp to work is
to publish it to the server in this path Adobe\RoboHelp Server
    7\Servers\1\Projects.
Now maybe FlashHelp shouldn't be here, but like I said it was
the only way that we could deploy the help where everyone could see
it. Before merging we hade 4 different modules and you would just
select the module you wanted (i.e., HR or Payroll). Now we've
conditionalized by audience and merged the help. So a call rep can
see what they do both in the HR and Payroll system without having
to go out and select the other project.
So should the FlashHelp be somewhere else? I suppose, but the
most logical place was in the path listed above. Near as I can tell
there wasn't any issue with doing it this way and the help worked
without any problem. So when we upgraded to 7 we just kept it the
    same way.
The only difference now is that I am merging the FlashHelp
and using the conditionalize build tags. Yes, I have published
locally (FlashHelp). There are no issues publishing, and the search
works, but the glossary does not work locally or on the server.
    Cindy

  • Empty index causing freeze up

    Has anyone else experienced this?
Here is My Setup: A FlashHelp Pro project that doesn't have
any items currently added to the Index. I published it to the
    RoboHelp Server.
My problem: When you type a word into the Index search,
nothing appears (due to the fact that there are no items in the
Index). BUT, when you try to click on any of the other
tabs....Contents, Search, Glossary...the entire help system
    freezes.
    Is this a bug??

    Hi jdcyclone1
Uhh, why are you offering an Index tab if you don't wish to
use an Index? Seems a bit pointless to me to offer an Index tab
    that does nothing.
Otherwise, just create an Index and see if things begin
    working.
    Just a thought... Rick
