Indexing Trex Search

Hello!
I have a question to the indexing of the connectors. I have setup the trex search in our talentmanagement  with the very good tutorial from Luke Marson. When I see the Connectors in the ESH_Cockpit there were some Connectors set with real time indexing and some not. What is necessary that all the different connectors are indexing every 2 hours. Our SAP Netweaver is in Version 7.1 and we have EHP6.
Please could you help me.
Best regards
Jürgen

Hello Luke,
thanks for your reply. I understand that the technical templates cannot be index in real time.
Is it necessary to index technical templates in connection with the trex search in talent management?
If yes, how can this be accomplished?
If i understand it correctly connectors with real time indexing update the index automatically. There is no need to schedule any indexing procedures.
TIA,
Jürgen

    Hi there,
I just read this thread, and maybe someone here can answer my current trex question:
I have created an ordinary CM repository, and created an index with this repository as source. Now the problem: I would like to exclude files in the repository with specific mimetypes from the TREX indexing process.
I have verified that the TrexValidMimetypes.ini does not contain any reference to the Mimetypes I'm creating, but never the less, the document titles are searchable and are returned when searching.
How do I get around this issue?
Is it possible in NW04 or EP6.0 SP3 PXXX??

    Hco

  • TREX search error

We are getting an intermittent problem when we do a search from our KM iview.  When we put in a search string it for the most part comes back with the appropriate data, but every once in a while we get the following error either as an informational text at the top of the iview or as stack dump error.
Error during search occurred - com.sapportals.wcm.WcmException: Index does not exist;index=ourindex (Errorcode 2007)
Does anybody have any information on a fix for this?

    Hi Aaron
Indexes are created in ECC or any other SAP for trex search and sometimes indexes may be have to be rebuild, have you checked this particular index shown in the error message 'ourindex'

  • TREX search failure for some pdf documents

    Hi,
TREX search is not getting correct result for some pdf documents. It's not able read the content of some pdf documents. When we search with file name the search result is correct but we are getting "No document excerpt available" message in search result for this file name.
Let me know where might be the problem for those pdf docs.
    Thanks

    Hi Tatayya Marni,
    1. Can you tell me whether the pdf documents are opening when you are selecting them?
    2. This error comes mostly when you havent included this .extn file (.pdf in your case) to the portal.
    3. Check whether this extn is their in your portal if not make it inclueded and then try making a new index and one new data source where your pdf is residing. Try for one Test.
You have to include the file extns in System Confi....UI Interface...
Hope this will resolve your issue.

  • Unable to retreive custom properties for WPC pages in TREX search result

    Hi All,
We have created couple of custom properties "custom_news_heading" and "custom_news_abstract" which are indexable and made it available for all folders and documents.
In web pages folder in one of the WPC web site we have created few pages. In details screen for those pages  we have updated those custom propeties with some text.
We have created an Index out of that web pages folder and able to see indexed count as same as the pages inside the web pages folder.
For that index the "Display Index Details" screen in TREX monitor is not showing up the custom properties - means TREX is not considering those custom properties even if have flagged it as Indexable.
Search result is returning the properties like "display name", contentlength etc. But we are not able to reterive the custom properties by customizing the Collection Renderer's Diaplayed properties.
    Any advice please?
    Thanks

    Hi Dhaya/Scotts,
Please upload an image of ur layout setting and also the collection renderer in the
[Wiki|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/x/IACnB] page that I have created for this thread...

  • TREX search KM BI Repository

    TREx 7.1
    Portal 7.0
I have created and been using a KM BI Repository. This repository contains txt documents that are currently being accessed thru a KM Document IVIEW. I have recently implmented  TREX 7.1 and I am having trouble finding anything in my repository using the search UI.
I have added indexes and taxonomies that point to the data source /bi_documents.
The search UI is available but finds nothing.
The TREX search can find Portal Documents.
I have also added to the Index Management Service the  "Repository Manager" that is for my BI Repository.
Component Monitor is good and all green
    TREX Monitor good.
My searchs still return nothing from my KM BI Repository.
I have researched and followed numerous documentation on repositories.
Any help or configuration document on KM BI Repositories would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

  • TREX search in Content Server

    Hey
I have a problem making TREX search for documents in my content server. I have made some Content Repositories where i want to perform my search.
What I have done so far, is to make a CM Repository for the Content Repository with Persistence Mode = DB and the Repository ID in Database = The repository i want to use in Content Server.
Then I have added this CM Repository to a index and restarted the servlet engine. When i search for the documents, I get no hits. I know there is nothing wrong with my TREX, cause i can search on File System Repositories.
Have i missed anything? The Content Repository is up and running, and i get successsfully on every test.
    Please hit me back!
    Best Regards

    Hi,
    Creating an Index
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/73/66c090acf611d5993700508b6b8b11/frameset.htm
Before doing that you should check TREX Server Status:
    System Administration->System Configuration->KM->Index Administration->Related links->TREX Monitor
If the status is ok, then create the index, assign data source (point your repository), define kind of service (search, search and classification, classification) and define scheduler.
Then in Index Monitoring you can check status of the index.
Also, in TREX Monitor you can display Queves and check status of the documents.

  • Sending query to third party portal from TREX Search Engine

    HI Experts,
we need to implement normal search option in SAP portal.
when we search any thing from portal ,
It has to search in EP & KM and also it has to search
windows sharepoint portal and bring the data back to SAP Portal.
For this purpose one solution is
    1) implementing  enterpise search,
but my client dont want to go for enterprise search(federated search).
    2) The other way
Sending query to third party portal from TREX Search Engine
In this way what i want is ,
how TREX can send query to third party portal SEARCH ENGINE
(in my case share point portal search ENGINE).
There is no problem to search in EP & KM becuse it is default.
To search in Micro soft Share point portal,
TREX should pass the query to share point portal search ENGINE.
Is there any API TO send a query to third party portal like sharepoint?
I searched in SDN and Other sites also but i am not getting exactly what I require.
If any one has ideas or implemented already please guide me.
My client require searching option like this,
we need to provide drop down box in SAP Portal with 3 options like
    1) search in Share point portal
    2) search in SAP EP & KM
    3) Search in both the portals
please provide any code samples in case if you have.
please help me , its urgent
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Bala

    Hi Bala,
please check the information on the KM IMS (Index Management Service) in KMC's developer guide. A connection to a 3rd party search is done from KM, then calling TREX and XY in parallel, not serially from TREX.
Here's a paper describing this for an older KM release:

  • Portal Roles Search & TREX Search

    Hello,
We need to search some pages and documents. The search results should be based on the permissions set for that user on the pages and documents. We created Portal Roles Search. It works fine for pcd objects. But it doesn't work for documents.
When we create an index with TREX Search service, it works for documents. But it doesn't consider the permissions.
When there are 2 search indexes, one with TREX Search and the other with Portal Roles Search, the TREX Search throws WcmException.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Rukmani

    Hi Sudha,
    Portal Roles Search
The objects found using the portalRolesSearch index service in the PCD cache are converted to KM objects and can be displayed in the search results list.

  • TREX/ search in ABAP

Dear sirs, I need your expertize.
I was asked to provide a solution where I need to work with the TREX search from ABAP.
I would like to know if anybody here has any experience with this and can guide me to some documentation sources or can give any direct advise how to start with the topic.
For example: there are demo/testing programs for all various modules/ technologies etc. in the ERP, does anybody know if there is something like that for the TREX? Like for ALV, WD, Adobe forms... something where I can see some basics about how this works.
Thank you for your time and effort,
    have a nice day, everybody,
    regards Otto

    Useful information sources found:

    /thread/42786 [original link is broken]
the direct TREX APIs are not released for project development. The JAVA API is, of course, technically accessible, but SAP does not support project developments against it. It is an API for internal use (e.g. KM <-> TREX) only.
As the direct TREX APIs are not planned to be release and will remain reserved for SAP solution <-> TREX communication only (e.g. KM to TREX, BI to TREX, etc.), it does not matter how much delta there is. Sorry...
Business Object Search with Search Engine Service (SES)
The SAP NetWeaver Search Engine Service (SES) provides a search and indexing framework that enables users to search for business objects (structured data) using the search engine technology of Search and Classification (TREX), including full text search and fuzzy search. SES is part of the SAP Basis component NetWeaver Application Server (AS) ABAP.

  • TREX Search Capabilities

    Hello
Can TREX search on non-indexed data?
Does TREX support natural language searches?
    Does TREX support “spider” searches?
    Best regards,
    Luis Carlos

    Hi Luis,
Can TREX search on non-indexed data? No.
Does TREX support natural language searches? you search using synonym. And other feature is that you can classify documents using taxonomies. There are two kind of taxonomies: query based and example based.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/6c/5145b1d1de11d6b2cc00508b6b8b11/frameset.htm
Does TREX support “spider” searches? Yes.

  • How to improve TREX Search experience?

Most of our users are not happy with the search results. Since the default TREX search is based on relevance, it shows all the documents matching the keywords so it's difficult to find the particular document they are looking for.
I have put few points together to see it would help to improve the search experience. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions and feedback.
    1)     The default TREX search performs a full-text search in the title, the description, and the content. Add additional metadata information of the document, and customize the search interface so that the end user can search documents by topic, keywords, region, author, etc.
    2)     Assign comma separated keywords in the document description while uploading. TREX finds it.
    3)     Create custom properties with pre-assigned keywords. You can pick the keywords for the documents using pick lists from the custom properties or use it in the advanced search.
    4)     For HTML files in the CM repository, develop a custom extractor for the META tags such as title, keywords, description, author, etc.,
    5)     For MS office documents, configure the TREX python extension to extract the Dublin Core metadata. So, in the advanced search, people can search using document title, description, subject, keywords, and so on.
    6)     Tweak the search interface to make it more presentable to the end user by setting tags for certain indexes such as KM, People Search, Invoice, Collaboration Rooms, and etc., So that the user can navigate between the tabs in search results.
    Thanks.

TREX search can also search based on the date, author, modified date, modified by etc....
You need to add the sort priority in your search option set.   You can customize the search functionality based on your need by modifying the search option set and search component set.

  • Exposing TREX Search Results to Google?

    Hi,
We have a CRM 4.0 E-Commerce solution and want to take the TREX search engine results (indexes?) and make them available to Google/Altavista/msn/etc index externally.
The idea being a search on the web would hit an entry in our online shop and direct the user to the product when clicked on.
I see that there is a Google Connector but this looks to me to be including Google in TREX rather than the other way around.
Is this possible and if so how ?
    Regards
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
I think, you will mostly have to discuss this with Google. Just like TREX has ways to assume other engines results as TREX' own, Google may have these ways. But integration will mostly have to come "top down" from Google in that case.
And it might be easier to find a way to make your pages (it's a catalog, I assume?) accessible to the Google Crawlers, rather than trying to handover the index.
    Regards, Karsten
