Indexing videos rushes

Hi All@Discussions,
Does anyone has ever worked with a Pro solution to perform indexes (metadatas) with videos rush ?
Users performing video cut/editing always have a rush before producing the final job. The deal and the solution to find is to have the possibility to add extra informations / metadatas within files, using a database system (mySQL or any others) to find and locate some details within a scene.
The main goal is to be able to find easlly somes scenes containing informations, to be able to locate them easilly and quickly.
Metadatas will be manually done by a human.
A such system could be accessible usoing a Web browser or a Mac OS X client software.
I know that we can use metadatas for an entire file, but my question is to know if a product is able to add extra infos/metadatas inside some certains scenes only :-)
Thanks a lot for all.
Regards.

I have same problem. Also some are generated and others are not. I do not know much about the various formats- from my phone, camera etc. Is there a list somewhere of supported formats?

  • Indexing Video and Audio

I know that there is a demo portlet out there somewhere that demonstrates doing a video search out of Portal. I would like to be able to store a bunch of images, audio and video in a portal repository and be able to do multimedia searches on them. How can I do this? Can I store them directly in portal through the wizard or do I need to create an Intermedia datatype and store them separately?

    Edwin,
Portal applications support the extended media types. However, you won't be able to use the content area search for these files. You'll have to build your own search UI using interMedia.

  • Indexes video files continually

Anyone know why I am getting continual indexing of files already imported into Premiere? It's driving me crazy. It takes so incredibly long. Even after very very patiently waiting for it to yet again re-index a file it's indexed a billion times, while scrubbing through the clip it will insist on reindexing once again. Why does it do this, and what can I do to stop this happening. There's no answers anywhere else and I've yet to find a way of searching the community help. The only field is the 'start a discussion' so that's what I'm having to do.
    Thanks

What types of content are you working with? If your project contains a lot of XDCAM footage, then you may be hitting a known issue, which is fixed in the upcoming update.

  • LR4 Video = Aperture Knockoff - Great --- But knock it off RIGHT !

    Hi.....
I dont particularly like Aperture. But I have been using it for a while now to organize my video-rushes.
Particularly trimming the H264 prior to transcode is amazing.
So I saw that LR4 had gotten video capabilities and downloaded the beta.
Great work Adobe. Must say. Really like to be able to WB my clips in Lightroom prior to transcoding. Super.
However, what use is Lightroom really If I cant:
    1) Export to a Real-World codec. (You offer H.264 or DPX - Latter is GREAT but a little overkill for an H264 source that doesn't need to go commercial)
    2) Import the trimmed clip (with the trims) directly into Premiere Pro or other apps. (I can drag the clip from LR4 directly into PPRO but PPRO will NOT adapt the in and outpoints which is totally stupid ;-)))
The way LR4 implements Video capabilities is an exact knock-off of Aperture 3.
What I ask is that if you have the audacity to so clearly copy Apples features why dont you copy them 100%....
Aperture has the following feature " Export Version " This feature will save the trimmed version of the Movie WITHOUT re-compresing(Re-Encoding). It will save the trimmed version to WHATEVER codec the original file is.
So one can cut off start and ending and SAVE the H264 as an independent movie WITH NO RE-ENCODING. I have Tripple checked it.. Re-saved that timmed file 10 times (Meaning 10 Generations of re-saving).
Putting all 10 inside AE and comparing with difference Mattes yields a black background which means, if you composition background is black, that there is NO differences. IF Aperture would indeed re-encode the 10th generation
re-save of the H264 would look horrible, NOT SO.
Adobe, your Premiere Crew holds the opinioin that ABOVE (Saving an H264 without Re-Compressing) cannot be done without quality loss.) That is why the "Save Trimmed Version" in Premiere Pro does NOT save H264-Trimmed versions but the whole file.
They claim that the movie would loose quality as PPRO would to re-encode. That IS NOT SO. Aperture and Apple have been doing it for a while now.
I know that this is ADVANCED technology and it is difficult to figure out. But perhaps if your engineers cannot figure this one out, you could at least give LR4 Video Users the ability to export the trimmed movie to ProRes or other useful codecs.
    Thanx for reading

Why not stick to Premiere Pro and set your in and out points there?
Using Lightroom simply adds to the workflow, with another stage of rendering.
I will always transcode.... Working with H264 is NOT an option for professional editing, Speedwise, it is TOOOOOO slow...
I need ProRes. If Lightroom could export to ProRes I could transcode ONLY the core´part of the clip and not the whole clip with extraneous beginnings and endings.
As of now, I'll just transcode everything coming off the FlashCard to prores. Then view it in the Finder. I would LOVE to copy the Flash card to the hard drive (Or import directly) then use LR4 as my Librarian GREAT FOR META DATA. Then transcode ONLY the part I need to ProRes...
Been doing this in Aperture, since V3 came out. And this is a VERY effiecient workflow. Premiere Pro iS NOT A LIBRARIAN where Lightroom is.
TO bad, adobes departments arent really communicatiung with each other. If LR4 developers would just have ONE meeting with the Premiere Pro department, adobe would gain ALL Premiere Pro users for Lightroom in the blink of an eye....
I could just export to DPX(LR4 does that) which I do every now and then, but ProRes is just as good and takes up 10x less HD space... So LR4 def. would benefit GREATLY from being able to export to ProRes.
Besides, LR4 USES Adobe Media Encoder and its presets to convert to DPX and etc... So WHY ON EARTH would adobe limit to DPX and H264... Lazyness ????

  • Stream DeMuxed Video Media Pending Issue

I'm extracting portions of a client's DVD video for re-use in another of this client's project.
Initially, I used DVD Decrypter to create a VOB of the chapter he requested, renamed it to MPEG and plays properly in Windows Media Player Classic.
Imported that into Premiere CS3 and it did nothing but Media Pending for hours.
The next day, I re ripped the same chapter with stream decoding. I made separate .m2v file for video and an .ac3 stream, which I converted to wav with HeadAC3.
I figured this time it would work. But alas, I loaded it into CS3, waited with hope as it 'indexed' video file, and then sat there in dismay as Media Pending screens stared back at me.
Upon looking at the properties of the video file, Premiere thinks it's 1 second in length, when in reality it is over 26 mins in length.
Just as a sanity check, I went to another workstation that also runs CS3 and copied the video clip there. But the results were the same after "indexing" process finished.
Is it my wrong assumption that Premiere can handle MPEG2 video? I was under the (apparently false) assumption that it could.

In the interim, I found Super© a universal converter program that converts anything to anything else. I converted the video clip to DV AVI and am all set now. Since the clip was a local 1969 television interview, the quality was not good enough to suffer visible deterioration because of the DV color sampling, so it was suitable in this case.
I did not notice anything on the Virtual Dub web site other than some FX filters they were offering, and did not know there was a hacked version floating around. But generally we don't run 'hacked' software or software whose origins don't trace to a secure, trusted producer on our commercial production machines, so I wasn't inclined to go much further with digging into the VD tools.

  • Pan & Zoom multilayered PSDs. Help needed

    Hi All,
I've got an edit I need to finish pronto then another one this coming monday and need to get some questions answered before then or in serious trouble!
    Additional details: Running FCP 5
We have a client that wants to do an animatic (motion graphic add)
He want's to be able to import a multilayered photoshop image WHILST keeping the original image quality, if the dimensions are above 720x576 (I edit in UK therefore PAL pixel dimensions), so you can pan and zoom across the image while simultaneous fading up and down and moving certain layers.
I was originally going to edit it on an Avid Adrenalin but found out that you can do some but not all of these things without great difficulty. SO am therefore going to edit on my FCP suite.
I tried last night to import a multilayered photoshop image and made it double the normal 16x9 PAL pixel dimentions (which are 1204x576) making it 2048x1152.
Doing this I hoped it would let me try and achieve a pan & zoom effect, but I found that it distorted the aspect ratio of the clip.
Making it squashed, even though my new project that I had set up was Pal DV Anamorphic (16x9). It dispalayed the newly created large psd as eveen more anamorphic - more like cinema scope!!
I looked it the motion tap and the distort aspect ratio in the motion tab was zero.
    I then did a test:
flattened the psd, changed the image size to 1024x576.
I then imported that and all was fine, it imported it at the correct ratio.
    Also major question.
Is FCP able to handle these graphics easily.
When I import them and insert them into the new seq I can set that seq to Unlimited RT low playback to see the move easily.
But when I open the nest that has all the layers it wont let me set RT settings, it only displays a few options, none that allow me to view in low res.
The client wants to edit in DV not lower so cant do motion jpg offline res.
He also needs the large images, eg we pan across a models hair only to fade up a layer of a product appearing in her hand.
I don't know After Effects well enough to attempt the edit on that, and I don't know motion at all.
The photographer/ client says he's done all his previous edits in FCP.
Is there an article I could read or is there any advise anyone can give me about approaching this project?
Minimizing render time, work flow etc
Has anyone used Lyric Media's Pan Zoom Pro?? (Or was that used by people with FCP 4 and now FCHD can acheive Pan & Zooms really well???)
    Thanks anyone for the help!!!!
    d

Tom/ anyone else who can help,
(note: also posted on 2pop erlier, just incase Tom/anyone else read that one, saving you the trouble of reading twice!)
    Sorry back again,
very nearly sorted after breakthrough last night.
Just need to clear up one more thing:
An FCP editor mate says he keeps the graphics he's given high res i.e. 300dpi, he says you can zoom in and keep the quality.
Can fcp handle bigger image resolutions? I know it can only go up to 4000 pixels squared but what dpi can it go up to. I always thought it would only work in 72 dpi.
Before finding about about fcp being able to handle higher than 72dpi, after numerous tests and conversations with you, I'd come to the conclusion that:
If designing in Photoshop for Final Cut Pro
If you don't use photoshop's PAL DV presets take this into consideration:
In graphics for 4:3 FCP projects:
    768x576 convert to 720x576
    1536x1152 convert to 1440x1152
always divide graphics width in photoshop by:
    1.06666666667
In graphics for 16:9 FCP projects:
    1024x576 convert to 720x576
    2048x1152 convert to 1440x1152
always divide graphics width in photoshop by:
    1.42222222222
I'm not sure of the actual size of the images the client is going to give me & I desperately don't want to get into the problem I had yesterday of distorted aspect ratios when importing to FCP.
    The only question is
If he gives me a photo that's 300dpi I'm going to have a problem with knowing exactly what size the image will be in photoshop regarding rescaling etc.
When he gives me the graphics, I'll check the dimetions in photoshop.
I should check if it's a rectangular or suare pixel doc first correct?
My thinking is that it'll be square pixel coming from a digital camera, and we'll prob work in 4:3 (i've just been given video rushes to combine with the edit at 4:3 res)
    Regarding the graphics,
Should I work in a high res and keep the pixel dimentions as high as I need up to 4000pix squared or should I keep it at 720x576 and keep the res high?
FCP works better with images at 720x576 they don't need rendering regardless of the dpi?? ANd also when you step into the PSD nest it gives you an option of Unlimited RT, it even has a dark green line in Safe RT.
Whereas when I work in images over 720x576, (say double that at 1440x1152) the PSD seq FCP creates when importing the multi-layered graphic has a red render line and won't let me work in Unlimited RT or Safe RT, it just gives the option of: 'use playback settings' or 'full quality'.
would it be good to create a photoshop template, so that I can drop the graphics I'm given into that, then manipulate it accordingly??
    All advice welcome!!
Sorry finding if still finding it slightly confusing!
    Almost there!!!!
    thanks for reading

    Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit -  OEM
    Overclockers
    £120.00
    1. Has been recommended on these forums.  Good to have  USB3.0.
    2. CPU is affordable and fast, with the ability to  overclock it if I feel the need for a bit more speed in the future.
    3. Would love 12GB, but will start with 6GB and perhaps  add more later.
    4. Started looking at Solid State Drives as I love the  comments about how fast they load programs, etc., however as they are still  really expensive felt that going with a fast standard drive would be best.  As I  plan on having a dual boot system, I would get two of these.  One would have OS,  CS5 and all my other software installed and the other one would have the minimum  for CS5 installed and the OS tweaked for performance with video  editing.
    5. Both seem like great drives.  Anyone any preference?   Would plan on getting two and use one to store video rushes and the other for  previews and the page file.  Would getting a HD with a 6GB/s interface be worth  it?
    6. I want a quiet case and one that's no higher than  45cm.  I already own the Antec Solo and I like the elastic HD mounting.  Anyone  any preference?
    7. Noctua comes recommended on these forums, however am  concerned with it's size.  Love the idea of water cooling an the H50 system make  it easier and less fuss being a closed system.  Final choice must be quiet and  I've read differing reviews on both.
    8. Can't wait to use the MPE, so want a decent card.  Torn  between getting a cheaper card and upgrading later or spending the money now on  a GTX480 and doing the software hack until fully supported.
    9. With a GTX480 would a 750w PSU be enough?
    GRAPHICS CARD
I've read reports of the GTX480 not being faster than the  2XX version card, however am I not correct in saying that the 2XX cards are no  longer being sold?  Should I be looking for a card from a particular  manufacturer, i.e. Asus, Gainward, Point of View, Gigabyte?  Or even Nvidia  themselves?
I am worried about the heat generated by the GTX480 and  the associated fan noise to cool it.  Any thoughts?
Love the water cooling solution, perhaps some day. http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-480-liquid-cooling-danger-den-review/1

    DUAL BOOT
For my dual boot, has anyone had experience of using a HD caddy like this  one? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172727
I read a review which said that there was no real speed  difference as there is no interface card, just a cable to the motherboard. It  would make my dual boot less complicated to set-up as I wouldn't need to use Win  7 to dual boot or use 3rd party software like Acronis OS Selector.  It would  also free up space for a further internal HD.
PREMIERE OUTPUT TO A HDMI  SCREEN
I've been going back and forward on the best solution to  get a proper output of my timeline in Premiere to an external monitor.  I was  set to go with the Matrox MX02 Mini, however some here have said they're  unstable (to a degree).  Although with the CS5 drivers not out yet, perhaps it's  too early to say.
Although none of my video work has been for broadcast (so  far), I see a great benefit from being able to preview my timeline on a TV  screen as opposed to a PC monitor.  I will be running two screens so I need both  outputs from the graphics card.
I look forward to receiving your collective  wisdom.

One extra fan (NF-S12B) to cool hard drives and the other for somewhere else in the case.  Perhaps I don't need these.
I presume that I should try and get an OEM CPU as I'll not need the heatsink and fan that'll be in the retail version?
I'm just waiting for Scan to get the case back in stock.  Should be today.  All priced at Scan, except last three items which are from Overclockers.
Anyone any final thoughts or tips?

  • Opening PP2.0 project in PP3

I just upgraded from PP 2.0 to PP 3.0 and am trying to load my project. I have over 20 hours of HD footage which was imported into PP2.0, as well as one sequence. Ever since I opened the project in 3.0, I am getting having numerous problems. Number one, it seems to take for ever for the project to load (much longer than in PP 2.0), and when it does I get a task bar at the bottom of the screen showing that it is "conforming" or :indexing" each clip. This has been going on all day and I'm not exactly sure what it is doing or why. And each time I start up PP 3.0, it seems to start over again doing the same thing from the beginning.
Can anyone explain what is happening and whether or not there is anything I can do? I can not imagine that I will have re-import every single item again.. Help Please!
    DD

PPro CS3 doesn't know about the conformed audio or indexed video so it has to do all 20 hours all over again. That's going to take a while.
Every time you stop and restart, if you don't save your project, the process has to begin again.
    1. Best to finish your project in 2.0. Use CS3 for new projects from here on out.
    2. If you don't want to do that, then import your old 2.0 project into a new CS3 project rather than just opening the project in CS3. I can't say for sure, but that may even alleviate the re-conforming and re-indexing.

  • Quciktime pro help needed please help help help help please

We are trying to view our video rushes from a Lacie harddrive hooked up to our Mac laptop. These are supposed to be run through quicktime, which we have installed on the laptop as well as having just bought quicktime pro. However, we keep getting a message that the quicktime we are using has missing components and we need to upgrade, which we have done. But we still are only to get sound on the rushes and not the video images.
We are desperate to see these rushes before our editor gets them and starts to edit. Which means we need to see them now. If anyone is up now and can help and call us to give us advice, we would be most grateful. We will of course call you straight back or if you prefer we can chat on MSN my user name is [email protected]

    Hi Mary,
Following our tel. chat I asked the question and, as I suspected, it is a codec issue. In addition it is also a processor speed issue. Below is a reply from Dave Sawyer. a fellow L4, regarding this issue:
I agree also that a single-processor G4 system almost certainly isn't going to handle uncompressed HD content. That's what the Pixlet codec is for; so film producers can view HD content on systems less than DP/Quad G5s. I think they're going to either have to work with more powerful systems (and make sure that they're running FCP5 on them) or get the cameraman to send them the content encoded in Pixlet.
I realise that this may be too late as far as yourselves viewing these video rushes before they go to the editor but hopefully the above info will assist you in the future.

  • How to pause external vdos to play it again after played another vdo

    Hey! I have a question.
I have many external vdos which I have loaded and randomly play them once at a time by press some keyboard buttons.
Let's give vdos named a,b,c,... and picture this....
When people press a button a vdo A is playing then someone press another button or the same button the vdo B will be played immediately.
The same thing happen to vdo B if someone press any button on keyboard to play vdo C. After every vdo has been played, the program will set all the vdos back so people can play it again now but, I do want it to play in exact same point where it left.
    Right now, my code can ramdomly play all the vdo without repeat them untill it plays them all. But I know because I REMOVE the vdo out so that's why the program don't play it again like this: var NewStore:Array = VdoStore.splice(i,1);
I think this way can't make a program to remember the vdo's timeline. But I don't know whatelse can I do to do what I want.
    Anyway,
Someone tell me to try out some index to the array and add ++ after playing. Then after index is more than Array's length, just reset index to 0 again.
So...Any suggestion on how to pause many external vdos??

use the shuffle function to randomize your videos and then play from index = 0 to index=videoA.length-1:
    function shuffle(a:Array) {
        var p:int;
        var t:*;
        var ivar:int;
        for (ivar = a.length-1; ivar>=0; ivar--) {
            p=Math.floor((ivar+1)*Math.random());
            t = a[ivar];
            a[ivar] = a[p];
            a[p] = t;

  • Blue screen on launch - tried all solutions offered in discussions - no joy

    Hi
I started up my G5PPC running OSX 10.4 (not sure which version and you'll soon see why). It went to a the grey apple screen, whirs a bit and then gos to a blue screen. I was able to move my cursor. But that was it. Nothing else happened.
I read all the forums and as a result of their collective wisdom did the following. At each stage I rebooted the G5 and got the same result as above with very little variation unless noted below.
I disconnected all externals etc and powered off etc.
I ran Techtool - and all my bits are in working order.
I ran disk utility - repaired permissions and verified disks.
I ran disk warrior - it told me my boot drive had 11 overlapping files but it created a new directory and sorted those out. It looked like I was in business.
However, when I turned the G5 back on I got a 0S9 style graphic of a file and a flashing question mark which Alsoft says means you have to reinstall OSX.
I have a bootable back up of my boot drive so I thought there would be no harm trying that before doing a full restore.
After the first disc of my install discs went in, the G5 unexpectedly rebooted itself and stuck while the fans went crazy.
With my original boot drive now wiped but with no OSX installed, I decided to restore it from my back up via super duper.
Once that was done I tried to reboot - back to blue screen via the grey apple screen.
I tried to boot my G5 from the firewire external drive (which is bootable) which didn't work either.
Both before the restore and after, using my Macbook pro, I set the G5 up in target mode and had a look at my boot drive. It was nearly full for a start so I deleted a lot of unnecessary stuff off it (eg old video rushes - no programme files). There's 50gig free now.
Everything seems to be in tact however and as noted above, none of the software checks (Diskwarrior, Disk Utility, Tech tools) are reporting any problems with the hard drive - like bad sectors or whatever and it has a new clean directory courtesy of DiskWarrior).
    Any suggestions about next step?
someone on here got there machine up and running by deleting a the startupservices plist which I did via my mac book pro accessing my G5 via target mode. It worked for them but in my case merely caused the G5 to create a new plist. It still went to blue screen (though I briefly saw a small window which looked like a user default log on window).
I ran disk warrior again. No problems found.

Here is something worth ponder and consideration that not everyone takes to heart:
When a disk utility repair fixes major over lapping extents, figure you are lucky to be able to Preview your drive and back it up.
But then you really should / need to / strong recommendation - REFORMAT.
And then keep your system cloned (emergency, working backup, and always test new updates, patches, releases on a test backup).
Disk Warrior doesn't test files and content fully, it doesn't look for weak spots or marginal bad sectors. And it doesn't know if file is garbage or good, just that the directory points to file.
SuperDuper optimizes directories, skips temp files and logs and things best built on first time boot (and one reason to always do a Safe Boot after cloning or updating).
Disk Warrior, if you option + click on the REBUILD directory button it takes you to a 2nd screen to "scavenge" more thoroughly, which is what I use.
When HFS+ gets low, trouble is the directory can become corrupt in ways that it loses files, data, and pointers to files.
You did a very good job, and more than many or most, it seems there are weaknesses in HFS+ and in tools to find and repair problmems. And getting low on disk space... well, why isn't there a quota system.

  • What project settings should I choose in PE8 for frame rate of 29.97 if camera source unknown?

Hi, I would like to know what project settings to choose in premiere elements 8 for a frame rate of 29.97, pixel aspect ratio of 1.3333 and 1440x1080?  Should I choose HDV, AVCHD or hard disk?  I didn't record the footage, so I'm not sure what it was recorded on.

I am definately selecting NTSC - HDV, HDV, 1080I30.  I then import the video. It shows in the project media - properties as 29.97 frame rate and in the interpret footage it also shows as 29.97.  But when it finishes indexing and starts to conform the video is changes to 25 frame rate.
Please see images below.  When importing the video it is at a frame rate of 29.97 until the indexing has finished, then it changes to 25 before conforming video
    IMAGE 1. Project settings
IMAGE 2.  Indexing image.  frame rate at 29.97fps
IMAGE 3. Properties while indexing video - 29.97 fps
IMAGE 4.  Interpret footage - still while indexing at 29.97fps
IMAGE 5.  Finished indexing changes to 25 fps and starts to conform video?

  • Connecting Audio

    Hi,
I've got some video and audio from a newer version of final cut in it's capture scratch folders. I want to import this into my older version of FCP.
I can drag in the video and the audio but they are not connected like they would be if i had captured it myself.
So how can I connect video rushes to audio rushes?
    Thanks,
    Gully

Someone captured them as separate files? With FCP you have to specifically tell FCP to capture audio and video separately. If you were able to get the clips from the other project, those clips have those files linked. All you'd need to do is export an XML of the bin and import that into the older project.
Otherwise you'll have to import them separately, then use the MERGE CLIP option.

  • Nokia c2-02.....Internet setting must be enable fo...

How do I enable this internet setting ?????...I can't use ebuddy , facebook ......or all java applications which use internet.(my phone is already connected to the internet)

So, it means that your phone's software is corrupted if you can't use the third party apps or the ovi store. The key on the icon means that the app is protected and is a third party app.Or other way is to contact your service provider for gprs settings and you can't do mannual settings in C2-02/03/05/06 phones that's y u can't watch online videos.Rush your nearest Nokia Care Centre and update your phone's software and try to use ovi store for apps instead of third party apps and use your phone's default browser instead of opera, bolt,uc,netfront etc.
    Thank You.
