Indexing Website

Hello,
we have installed a Trex 6.2 and want to use it as standalone searchengine for our website.
How can i crawl over our website and use the Trex in the mentioned way?
Thanks for hints an help,
André

Hello Andre,
actually, there is no "TREX 6.2".
I assume, we are talking about TREX 6.1 with whichever SP.
On the other hand, that does not influence the answer to the question:
You can integrate your Website into KM via the Web Repository Manager and then index and search its contents through KM.
The TREX engine itself does not contain any crawlers. Crawlers, in the KM secnario, are basically part of the repository framework (or the CM portion of KM).
TREX use as a stand-alone engine is not supported in the way that I understand here. TREX may only be called through other SAP solutions/components.
Please see posts like the following for further details:

Can the TREX be used with non-SAP applications?

  • Errors when indexing websites

    Hi.
We experience an error (401 unauthorized access) when indexing websites from our productive portal environment.
The strange thing is that the websites are open (they do not require user authentication) and we do not get any errors indexing the same websites from our DEV and QA environments.
Portal version is NW04 SP11 and TREX version is 6.1.11.
Any ideas about what could be wrong?
    BR Søren

    Hi Soren,
    1. Did you specify any specific permissions when creating the index.
ie. When setting the data source etc. for an index, we also have the facility to set permissions as regards who should access and who shouldnot access.
    2. You can check the Index Administrator tool for this particular index for the specific error.

I have to upload the xml file in www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in by digitally signing the xml file. When I click on the tab for digital sign, the message come " cannot read the xml file"

Not the sort of thing it is easy to help with as by definition it will not be a public site but one for Indian Taxpayers, and can be expected to be secure.
Have you tried using Internet Explorer.
You could try attaching screen shots of the problem pages and any error messages, but please be careful and edit out any confidential or sensitive information before attaching such an image.

  • Crawling issue

    Dear friends,
We have EP 6.0 SP 16 and TREX 6.1 SP 16 installed on a linux box. We are using our portal as a public website. When I try to do a web crawling on our portal, I just get one result. I also tried crawling the portal using a third party software and it also returns only 1 result. Do I need to enable some configuration on portal so that crawling the portal itself will work? The crawler does work fine with other web sites.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Mandar

    Hi Mandar
How is the behaviour when you use the light framework page instead , check this weblog
Coming Soon: the External Facing Portal (EP6 SPS14)
, however you will have to forego some feature , if you are looking at this an an option.
Technically it is possible build a indexable website using EP Eg:SDN , but this involves lot of development and moving away from lot of standard features.

  • Hi. I am building a website with the White template. Does anyone know which typeface was used by Apple on the heading index? (I would like to repeat the index at the bottom of my pages).

Hi I am building a website using iWeb's white template. I can't write HTML, so can't change the index, but would like to repeat it at the bottom of my pages. Does anyone know which typeface Apple used? Presumably it would be 'web friendly' for use as described above?

  • Website on Mac Mini Server not accessible. Error 403 index document not available.

    Dear all,
I'm trying to host a website on my Mac Mini Server. As far as I can see, my DNS is working correctly. Also my firewall is setup correctly. (I'm hosting another website which works OK). But I setup a new site. Basically a copy of the working site. But this site doesn't reflect an index.htm page. I receive an Error 403 with further information that there is no index document or that the site is secured. There is a contact link on this page directing to my webmaster. So I conclude that something is working, but no index.htm page. Has anyone similar experience? And offcourse a solution?
    Many thanks.

Launch Terminal.app and issue the commands:
    cd /Library/Webserver/Documents/
    ls -al
And see if the files are readable by the web server.   Here's an example index file listing that's owned by root and with group access for admin folks, and this file is marked as readable and writable for the owner and the group, and is readable for everybody else:
    -rw-rw-r--    1 root  admin   5094 Jul 25  2009 index.html
In this configuration, the web server would be using the other access; the web server can read this file, but not write to it.  Here is how to duplicate these ownership and access settings on your own index.html file, assuming that you have that file present in the ls listing above, and assuming that you have issued the cd (change default directory) command shown above:
    sudo chown root:admin index.html
    sudo chmod ug=rw,o=r index.html
You will need to enter your administrative password for the sudo command.
I would very strongly suggest that you start learning some basics of bash and of Apache, because you're going to be needing those skills very soon.

  • On the browser's last page of website, cannot engage the index ...

I have 3 other websites using the same format of the INDEX displayed on top of each webpage. The current one I have constructed was all right until I added 2 more pages [total of 27 pages; another site has 38 pages with no problems engaging the Index when on the last page].
Upon checking the 'publish site' on the server [Safari] before uploading, when I was on the last page, I could not engage other pages on the Index. I noted this occurring on a friend's computer [MacBook using Safari] — after the website had been uploaded — thinking it their problem. However, when the same inaccessiblity to engage the Index occurred on my browser, I am concerned. It means I have to use the 'Back' command to re-engage the Index.
Is this specific to this new published website as 'server' related, or is it an iWeb glitch?
Rather strange when I have not encountered the problem on my other published websites until I was at my friend's computer's Safari browser [Snow Leopard] and today on my own Safari browser [Lion] for this new website.

  • When I'm trying to upload my homepage, (=the index.htmI) Iweb is telling me that it is not possible, because there is a unkown error. All the other pages from my website I upload very well, and they are visible. What can I do to repaire?

    Hello people from the forum,
I have made a beatifull website, and upload it with filezilla to a server, and also I upload it to a local map.
Everthing was going very well, but i don't get my website on the internet, because one page will not be uploaded (again) and that is my first page, the home page (and for as far I understand also my index.html)
I web telling all the time: can not publish this page because there is an unknown error.
The strange thing is, that I can see, even on the local map as on the online server, that my home page is still there!
the size of the index.html is 303 kb (and when I open it, it is empty, but maybe thats normal?)
And yes, I did a lot of stupide things, by accident I deleted a lot of files and documents on my computer :-((
I reinstall Iweb (3.04) but the error is still there.
So, do I have to reinstall OS lion totaly? But them I i'm afraid that I lost all my webpages (even they are on the server now)
(can I put all on a USB stick, and make later again a new homepage?)
I hope one of you recognize this problem and have a more simpeler solution than my story here above.
Sorry for my english, I hope you understand.

    Hello Wyodor,
thanks for your reply on my question.
You are wright the index file is 308 KB.
And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)
    greetings Lasource

  • Edit index file for multiple websites on iWeb (on a non-MobileMe server)

Hi, I try to make this as simple as I can:
    A) I own three different domain names, 1.com, 2.com and 3.com
    B) I have bought hosting space with a company that offers 10 free independent domains in the package. Meaning, all domains I upload should go into the folder /html/
    C) I use iWeb 3.0.1 built 9833)
Now, whenever I upload 2 or more sites to the server, iWeb rewrites the riit index file - meaning the index file inside the /html/ folder. Whereas the other index files inside the folders for the three domains - /html/1, /html/2 and /html/3 - obviously remain intact.
Result: if I upload all three domains (= with www,3,com being the last one) and then open www.1.com, it shows... right, www.3.com
I have tried to create subdirectories in the /html/ folder, but of course this does not resolve the issue.
HOW KNOWS A SOLUTION ??? WHAT DO I DO ???
I am not a techie nor am I able to write html, but hey, one has to learn: so if anybody has a solution that is not simply drag-and-drop and might involve the use of, say Dreamweaver, do it. I will try to do my best.
    Thanks!!!

This is a question for your host's tech support.
What your hosting service should be saying is 10 dedicated IP addresses.
If this is the case you should be able to create a root folder for each site on the server and upload the contents of the folder produced by iWeb to it. Notice that I said contents and not the folder itself and the external index.html file.
This is how my host - Host Excellence - works and why I use them.
Other services have different arrangements. If you are asked to upload several sites - each contained inside the folder produced by iWeb - to a folder named public_html or something like that then obviously you can't have several index.html files coexisting in this folder. The domain name for each site needs to be directed to the index.html file inside the folder containing the website files. Get tech support to explain how this is done or, better still, do it for you.

  • I published my website to an FTP server and it comes up correctly at the index page, but if I navigate to a different page then back to "index" it sends me to my FTP server's home page.

I contacted the techs at my server and they said the "i" in index was not capitalized in the hyperlink but was capitalized in the file.  iWeb makes it's own hyperlink - how do I fix it?
Many thanks to anyone that can help.  The website is www.beeskneesbodyworks.com  if you want to see for yourself.
    Trish

You have named your Home page "Index" which you cannot do.
Change it Home or something else, republish your site and all will be well.

  • Why my iweb website is no longer getting indexed by google?

I have had my website for 2 years and it was showing up on google with no problems. Now my site is not showing up on google and I dont know why.
I have verified the site, I have resubmitted the URL. I have requested reconsideration, but I just need to know why my site that stop showing up on google.
.Google mention that .mac blocks googlebots from indexing the site. What should I do to fix this probelm. (url:www.noticemagazine.com)

    In order for search engines to find your site you need to have text content. They don't know what your site is about if there is no text content on it. I have went through your site and you should do the following;
    1) Get ride of your "click here to enter site" page (the Welcome_.html page)
Never EVER use your default page in this way. This is called a splash page and provides no value to your visitors since they need an additional click to find your page and it provides no indication to search engines about what your site is all about. Your default page is the most important page on your site, use it to link to the most important pages on your website and to have your important keywords.
    2) Your title tags NEED to have your most important keywords
Your title tags (what you see at the top of your browser) need to have your most important keywords . They should be 60-120 characters long, unique for every single page and describe what your page is all about. This is one of the most important things for search engines. Not only do they use this to learn about your website content but its also what users will see when your site is listed in Google's result. Do you think someone will click a link called 'Welcome' when they do a search in Google, or "Notice Magazine: Lifestyle and Fashion Advice" (for example).
    3) You need more text content
All of your pages are mostly images, you need more content that search engines can properly index. Imagine you were searching for text in a Word Document and it was just an image, you wouldn't find anything. This is basically what Google does too. Most of your text has been converted to images because you use non standard fonts in iWeb. In iWeb, open the fonts palette, and select 'Web'. Stick to those fonts.
    4) Link to other pages on your site using your keywords
You need to link between your pages on your site using keywords you want to be found with. Anchor text (the text you click to follow a link), is used by Google to rank your website. Tip: Do a search for click here in Google, look at the top result and notice that click here is not found anywhere on that page. Its because so many people link to that first result using the term 'click here'. (Its Adobe Reader's page for those that do not want to search).
    5) Get a real domain name AND real hosting
MobileMe is NOT meant for commercial sites and should never be used for it. A real host with a real domain name (that includes your keywords) you will outrank the same website hosted in MobileMe (even with domain forwarding. Any kind of domain forwarding is not ideal for search engines because of how redirects are handled).
    6) Create and submit an XML Sitemap file
Not only will this help with you rankings, Google/Yahoo/Bing provide a Webmaster Tools account that will provide feedback on why your site may not be in Google.
    7) Speed up your website
You are using too many high quality images on your site which is making it extremely slow. Reduce the quality of your images and optimize your HTML/CSS/Javascript code so it loads faster. Not only does this provide a bad user experience for your visitors but Google will not index a slow loading page as much as a faster loading page. Also, Google announced just a few days ago that the speed of a website's load time WILL become an important ranking factor in the VERY NEAR future.
Having a real web host will help with the speed issue.
    8) Redo your navigation bar using text and include your keywords in each link. iWeb's javascript navigation bar does not allow search engines to easily find all your pages on your site.
    9) Get links from third party websites. Post on forums, use twitter, facebook, blogs and other social networking sites. Links from other websites are a very important factor for how well your website ranks.

  • Can a Button be created in a PDF to go back to website index page?

I should know this. But the idea to do it hasn't crossed my mind to do it. I use PDF's extensively in my website http://www.phillipmjones.net/
Is it possible to put in a Home Button, at the end to have it go back to the index page, rather than having use back button on web Browser?

    Last Reply:
In order to do so you have to:
Open a Graphics Program and creae a button, in my case I used Fireworks to create a button with a special Filter that use button affects.
    Create desired button.
Open original Word File and insert button at Desired Location Save as both Wod Docx and as PDF files.
open desired Pdf in Acrobat choose replace File.
Open Forms editor and create a form field that is a button.
Make form outline with no color.
make fill color with no color.
make button action Web URL. Type entire link using all directories, sub directories and index page of desired directory.
    Save.
    get out of forms editor.
    Save file.
    upload to web site.
It works but is way to many steps be worthwhile.
This is being posted for those that desire to use a web link button in a PDF.  and want to know the desired steps.

    Hello Karten,
We are using TREX in a Portal scenario (7.0 version), from there we like to index a internel website.

  • Typing in url for my company website sends it to https index page in Firefox, but not IE or Chrome, and the behavoir is not wanted

After upgrading Firefox to version 14.0.1 i noticed when i typed in my company's website address that firefox went to the https:// version of the site when it never did that before.
Example, if you type in amazon.com in the URL bar, you briefly see that firefox turns the url to https://www.amazon.com before being auto directed to the normal www.amazon.com site.
My website did not have a secure index page and people were getting a server generated message until I found this issue out.
Is there a setting in Firefox to prevent the URL bar from selecting a secure connection first? This behavior does not occur in the most recent versions of I.E. or Chrome browsers on a desktop.
Any help would be greatly apprecaited
