Indian language - Gujarati OpenType font problem

Hi All,
I  have designed a Gujarati opentype font using Fontographer 4 on a  macintosh machine, version 10.5.8, generated a TTF file of it and wrote  the tables for that font using VOLT on a Windows machine. When I test  the font in notepad, word on windows or openoffice in Linux, no  positioning or substitution tables appear. But all these rules are  working well when tested in the proofing tool of VOLT.
Can  anyone please tell why is could be happening? Am I missing some thing in  the process?
Thanks so much.

Dear Hunt,
Am little bit confused after reading your reply. As jui mentioend she have designed the font using fontographer and wrote the tables by using VOLT (in windows)
So whether rendering engine is necesary for the fonotgrapher, as per my knowledge fontographer lets to design, edit, and manipulate fonts(Pls correct me if am wrong). And all the posiitoning and tabling happens in Windows by using volt, where bydefault uniscribe support is there.
Pls clarify this. Also If it's the issue is any convertion tool is avialable for converting the font from MAC to Windows.Or wil it possible to do by fontographer or volt.
And if we ported this font to fontforge, with the Pango or ICU backend support( in Linux), whether this issue will resolve ?
PS:Am just a beginer in this domain, starts learing with jui.So pls apologise me if am wrong.

  • Adobe Reader None of the version supports Indian Language Hindi

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me when Adobe Reader will support Indian Language Hindi?
    The problem in detail as:
I can save MS Word 2013 file as PDF or I convert some of the report to PDf. It is perfect. But when I want to copy paste the same pdf data to MS Word or Notepad or any other editable application then data gets lost. All Garbage data is getting pasted. PDF do not retain Indian Language data like other Languages (English, Japanese, Chinese, etc.).
I am waiting for Adobe to solve this problem from the year 2006.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Sitaram Gaikwad

    More info.
I just created a Word document that had very simple sample text in davanagari (क ख ग घ ङ च छ ज) and uses the correctly set up fonts Arial Unicode MS and Mangal. Printed to Adobe PDF printer.
These are displayed correctly in Acrobat X.
They copy back to Word exactly as their original characters.
However, I have not tested with diacritics or ligatures. I can well imagine these do not travel well.

  • Indian language problem.

I purchased Id CS6 for the expanded Indian language capabilities. I am working in Gujarati and am having the following problem. In Adobe Paragraph Composer the program doesn't recognize the Gujarati half letters and sets each letter as a full letter. In Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer the half letters are recognized, but the paragraph flows right to left and I cannot make it change direction. Any advice?

  • Indian Language Fonts

Using MAC OS X, safari/chrome/mozilla: when displaying Indian Language scripts encoded in UTF-8,
how does the browser choose which font to use? For instance, I have only one telugu font (Pothana) installed; however, when telugu script is displayed, it uses some other font (which I do not know) and it switches between that font and Pothana non-deterministically. One font stays for a few days and suddenly switches to the other. How do I control this? Same problem no matter which browser (safari/chrome/mozilla) is used.

Each browser is different I think. Firefox > Preferences > Content > Fonts > Advanced has settings for languages, while Safari/Chrome does not.
For Telugu, there is only one free font that displays correctly in OS X, which is
    http://web.nickshanks.com/fonts/telugu/
So you can get rid of all the others you might have. That should help avoid anything else being used.
Another Telegu font for OS X is available here:

  • Problems exporting text in Indian languages

I tried exporting text in Indian languages to XML format, the resulting XML had '?' characters. The following code was used
    var exporter:ITextExporter = TextConverter.getExporter(TextConverter.TEXT_LAYOUT_FORMAT);
    var xmlExport:XML = exporter.export(_textFlow, ConversionType.XML_TYPE) as XML;
NOTE: The text was rendered as expected. Only the exported XML contained '?' characters.
Is there anyway to export these (see below) unicode characters to an XML without loosing the actual values.
    Eg: ' हम कहाँ है?'
    Thanks in Advance

How did you save the XML?  Trace into the Flex console doesn't seem to support unicode.
    The examples posted here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/tlf/2009/12/new-and-updated-tlf-samples.html
Contain the TextLayoutEditor example that shows exporting displaying the markup with unicode and saving it to a file.  Look for FileIOHelper.as.
    Hope that helps,
    Richard

  • Indian Language Font

Hi, all!!  This is Narayanan, from Chennai, India.  I recently had my BB Curve 9220 serviced, and since then, I am unable to view Messages, Social Feeds, etc., where the text is in Indian Languages.  Earlier, the messages wre displayed "As It Is".  Pls suggest some remedies.....

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I would surmise that whatever work was done, your OS was changed, and the version placed onto your device does not contain the proper language pack. You can remedy this...but it is some amount of work, you may prefer to request they remedy this situation.
If you wish to proceed on your own then the simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
Use also this KB to guide your selection:
Article ID: KB05305 Localization support for BlackBerry smartphones
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • OpenType Font Shift Problems

With the advent of OpenType and the ability to use one font
file for both PC and Mac platforms (similar to TrueType) Flash
still causes a baseline shift when you create the FLA on one
platform and open on another with OpenType. If you create an FLA
file on the MAC and open it on the PC an OpenType font will shift
down 10px and if you create an FLA on the PC and open it on the MAC
an OpenType font will shift up 10px.
This was always the case with a font version you had for both
platforms (PC version of the font and MAC version of the same font)
but the issue was resolved when using a single TrueType font file
on both Platforms. And now with the advent of OpenType you would
assume you could do the same as you are using one font not a
platform specific version of that font.
Has anybody found a fix for using OpenType or do you just use
TrueType fonts and is Adobe working on a fix for this????
    Thanks in advance

I too am having the same issue.
I'd consider this a critical issue as it renders the FLA file
basically useless on any other platform than the one it was created
on, which is not very good in design offices these days.
I hope Adobe will fix this issue ASAP.

  • Terminal.app won't display OpenType fonts (.otf)

Where the characters should be, blanks are displayed. This is a serious problem for me because, while I use Monaco in my terminal, the fallback font for Japanese characters is Hiragino, which is an OpenType font: as a result, Japanese text is not visible in my terminal.
    Here is a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/wlNPV.png
Note that, since I set the system's language to Japanese, most of the text in Terminal's preferences is also invisible.
The problem only seems to occur in Terminal.app, and does not affect other users on the same machine (I tried logging in as guest). It occurs with all OpenType fonts I tried, not just Japanese ones.
Strangely, if I delete Terminal's preferences, the problem almost disappears (except that it still says ル in the window's title bar instead of ターミナル); however, if I close and relaunch Terminal, the problem immediately reoccurs, even though the preferences file is pristine.
I tried resetting the ATS cache (atsutil databases -remove) and restarting in safe mode, but the problem still occurs. I've tried googling around, and I found some other people mentioning the same problem, but no solution. Can you help?

I've got the same problem with my new MBP 2011 with Snow Leopard and it really annoys me as I'm dealing with multilingual texts every day.
What surprises me is that I had no problems at all since MacOs 10.1 and now it appears in 10.6 !
Back in the old days I had to put a .inputrc file for displaying Japanese characters but that was not a big deal.
When I create a new account, it works for a few hours (Japanese characters display well even with menlo or courier fonts set as default). But after a few manipulations here and there (that do not seem related to terminal or fonts like setting my iTunes account) and a couple of reboots, the problem reappears again, ie the Japanese characters do not display again.
I can temporarily solve the problem by using the Osaka font but 1 it is not nicely displayed with irregular spaces between characters and 2 when I want to display other characters (thai, khmer or whatever), I have to change the default font again. This is a real pain in the neck.
I read in another thread that there is a solution to convert the OpenType Font you wish to use into a TrueType font but it is not a solution for me neither as there is no existing font that covers all the unicode characters.
Is Apple aware of this bug? Did they acknowledge that there is a problem?
If someone finds a solution, I'll be really happy.

  • OpenType font won't work in PDF created from PM 7.0.1a file

Per my client's request, I had to purchase a lovely new OpenType font, AJenson Pro, for a book project I'm paging using PageMaker 7.0.1a in Windows XP. First it wouldn't print on my postscript HP laser printer, but downloading an updated printer driver from the HP web site easily fixed that problem. But I have done everything I can think of and I can't get the new font to appear in a .pdf created using Acrobat Distiller 5.0.5, which came bundled with PageMaker.
The font shows up in the finished .pdf as boxes with X marks in them instead of letters! I'm not trying to use anything but standard characters (no glyphs, etc.) in the font. I've been using PageMaker and creating .pdf files in Acrobat Distiller 5.0 for years and have had no problems until I got this new font. Adobe Type Manager shows that it is installed and it looks great on the screen.
I purchased the entire AJenson Pro font family from MyFonts.com, so I have bold, bold ital, etc. Their technical support couldn't suggest anything I hadn't already tried.
I'm planning on upgrading my PageMaker to InDesign soon, but I'll need a new computer to meet the minimum system requirements so I've been putting it off. I'm afraid to even download the free 30-day trial on my older computer. Any suggestions on how to get this OpenType font to work in a .pdf created using PM 7.0.1a and Acrobat Distiller 5.0, or do I have to upgrade to InDesign right away? I need to be able to create a .pdf so I can e-mail proofs to my client and eventually to send the finished book to a commercial printer. Thanks!

I have had this same problem myself with most Open Type fonts. It's very irritating, because it seems like most of the new fonts are being issued exclusively in Open Type.
I have developed a work-around, which you can attempt at your own risk.
Purchase the software FontCreator (I use FontCreator 5.6 Home Edition). It's not very expensive.
Open the problem font in FontCreator, and save it with a different name. In the process of saving it, the font will be converted to a TrueType font. Install the new version of the font. In my experience, you can then successfully use the font in Pagemaker, and convert it to a pdf.
This is not a perfect solution because there will be a *very* slight diminishment in the crispness of the lines of the font -- but this is only visible when the font is magnified to something like 6400% in Acrobat. It is not visible to the naked eye, or at least not to my naked eye.

  • Typing Indian Languages on Mac OS X

I have come across a few questions on the forums here asking for Phonetic Transliteration using schemes such as Baraha for different Indian Languages on Mac OS X. Unfortunately, no good answers were given (probably none existed) and the forums are now archived. Having lived through the dark days of trying to use various non-phonetic QWERTY keyboards, I decided to write my own open-source Input Method Engine (IME) called LipikaIME: https://github.com/ratreya/Lipika_IME.
LipikaIME supports Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil and Telugu scripts using ITRANS, Baraha, Harvard-Kyoto, Barahavat and Ksharanam transliteration schemes. Mappings are documented here: https://github.com/ratreya/Lipika_IME/wiki. Additionally, you can add your own language or transliteration scheme using LipikaIME's configuration files. You can also use GoogleIME's SCM file format (http://www.google.com/inputtools/windows/canonical.html) to introduce your own transliteration scheme.
LipikaIME works on Mac OS X 10.8 and above. You can download the installer here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/sanskrit/LipikaIME.pkg. This application is not in the Mac AppStore because custom installers, which are required to get any IME to work on OS X, are disallowed - some day I may think of a way to work around this.
