Indic script display problem - Open Office PDF export does
I am trying to create a PDF document using iText (a Java library) and I found out that Indic script specificaly Malayalam Language Unicode is not displayed properly. Ligature substitution and reordering is not working at all. (See attached image1.png)
However, Open Office does display the text properly (see attached image2.png)
and when I export this document to a PDF document, the text in the PDF is fine (See attached image3.png).
I am suprised at this bevahiour. The font I am using in all the three case is FreeSerif.ttf, which has support for Malayalam language and has the Open Type tables that is required for ligature substitutions.
Please help.
One difference I noted is this -
Document Property (Fonts) of the PDF with problem shows FreeSerif , True Type (CID), Embedded
and Document Property (Fonts) of the Open Office Exported PDF shows Free Serif, True Type, Embedded SubSet

Problem opening Office documents from KM
Hello, I have some problem opening Office documents from KM.
We stored a lot of office documents (Excel, Word ecc.) in a File System repository (the standard repository "/documents"), when I open one of these files, before to view the document, a little logon window appears, it asks portal user's credentials.
If the user presses the "Cancel" button the logon window will be closed and the document showed, but on the next attempt to open an office file the system will asks again the user information .
If the user gives the right information the documents will be showed and the logon window does not appear again..
How con I avoid the logon request for each Office document in my repository?
Any suggestion??
Best RegardsThank you a lot Brad!!
We use Office 2003 and the note 549610 solves our issue!!

InDesign CS5.5 Problem - Crash during PDF export (Runtime Error)
Hello,
I'm working with Adobe CS5.5 and have a problem with the PDF-export of some of my projects.
The problematic projects are rather big (44-124 pages) with lots of pictures.
The error I get during export is:
[Headline:] Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information
The program is not specified in the error.
Export works fine for these files on my collegues computer with the same settings (hardware and software are almost a match).
Microsoft Runtime Library was completely reinstalled without solving the problem.
Any suggestions how to solve this problem?
Thank you very much

SSRS indicator image display problem!!
Hello ALL;
I am having problem with displaying indicator image in DEV report manager. but same rdl works in QA environment. Both server has SP1 installed. Any Idea? Appreciate for your help. Thanks,Hi Techchi,
Based on the limited information, I cannot figure it out for this issue. As per my understanding, I think this issue can be caused by the browser that run the report manager. If you use IE explorer to render the report, I suggest that you can try to run
it in compatibility mode. If you are using another browser, I recommend that you should use IE explorer to render the report to check the issue again.
If this issue still exists, in order to solve the problem more efficiently, I need to clarify some information.
Are all reports with indicator image cannot render well in DEV report manager? Or just this one report?
What is the phenomenon about the indicator image display problem? Could you please post a screenshot about this?
It is benefit for us to do further analysis. Thank you for your understanding.
Thanks,
Katherine Xiong

Problems opening a PDF in Acro Reader 8 with BuddyAPI?
I apologize in advance for not having enough information to
properly diagnosis this situation, I’m encountering
considerable resistance from others in my company to go back to the
client and ask for additional details, but here’s the
situation:
We’ve got a project out in the field that opens PDF
files using BuddyAPI (code below) … it worked fine when the
client machines were all using Acro Reader 7.x Some time during the
year the client’s IT department upgraded everyone to Acro
Reader 8.x, now it works on some machines and not on others. I
don’t know how many machines it doesn’t work on, at
least one, probably two (vs 4000 copies of the project out in the
field). What do I mean by “doesn’t work”
…well, I’m not really sure … when I ask if the
client can open the PDFs directly, outside of our app, I get an
answer similar to “yeah, they must have tried that …
just post the question on the forum” … I also
don’t know if an error is generated, I’m told simply
the PDFs don’t open, although if an error were generated I
would think someone would mention it. Sorry to vent, I know
it’s not much to work with, but if someone else has a similar
problem I’d love to know about it.
BTW: I’ve got 3 machines here in the office all with
Acro Reader 8, works fine on all of them.Hi all,
I just posted this in anotehr thread dealing with the same
issue.
I have emailed Gary who develops the Buddy API Xtra and he
did some
testing and this is what he reported.
It seems that when Adobe install Reader 8.0, they don't
implement an
'Open' association, but a 'Read' one. If you right click on a
.pdf file
you will see that the actions available don't include Open.
Now, this
should only affect people using an older version of Buddy,
that was
something changed for Acrobat 7 and .fdf files, so that if
there wasn't
a Open action, it used the default one instead. So the best
option is to
use the current version of Buddy. But to make it work with
programs
still older buddy that can't be changed, it should be
possible to write
a .reg script or updater to add the Open command to the list
of actions,
then older version of buddy will work. You can use this
script in a
projector to update the registry so that pdf files will open.
So that
could be used in a updater projector.
on setAcroOpenReg
str = baReadRegString(
"Applications\AcroRD32.exe\shell\Read\command",
"", "", "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" )
if length( str ) > 0 then
baWriteRegString(
"Applications\AcroRD32.exe\shell\Open\command",
"", str, "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" )
end if
end
Hope that helps.

Problems opening & printing pdf files created on a Mac
I am at my wit's end! I recently upgraded to a new version of Acrobat and suddenly a lot of my clients could no longer open my pdf files. I uninstalled the latest version of Acrobat and reinstalled an older version (Acrobat 8.1.3). Some clients started being able to open my pdf files but others could not. So I started using the Acrobat Share server and sending links. Some of my clients cannot open those either and many cannot print even if they can open the files that way. I personally also cannot print from the Acrobat Share server. The pdf files print out with all the surrounding graphics and application design elements. I also can't open the pdf files that I created on my Mac using my PC laptop running Vista. I have tried opening and printing both pdf files and the Acrobat Share links from my Mac and my PC laptop running Vista, to no avail.
I was under the impression that compatibility problems between Macs and PCs were largely a thing of the past. I was also under the impression that the whole point of exchanging pdf files was that pdf files are cross-platform compatible. Not only am I am losing tons of valuable time, I may be losing credibility with my clients (especially since I have an IT background). I desperately need to know what version of Acrobat I should be running on my Mac so that when I scan documents into my Mac, the pdf files that are created are completely 100% compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems regardless of what operating system and what version of Acrobat my clients are running. I also need to be sure that those same pdf files I create on my Mac can be seemlessly printed out from either a Mac or PC regardless of the operating system or Acrobat Reader version. If anyone can help me get to the bottom of this, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks. This file downloaded and works fine for me in Preview on both OS X 10.5.7 and 10.4.11 (and opens in Acrobat Pro 9.1.1 and 8.1.5, and the latest version of Reader on both versions of the OS). As expected.
If you're printing from Acrobat.com by right clicking in the image area and selecting Print, don't. This isn't printing the PDF, it's printing the Flash frame that contains, as you've noticed, buttons and other elements. (Adobe's Mac Flash plugin is notoriously buggy.) Direct your clients to download the file by selecting the download button, not by right clicking and printing.
Again, your PDF file is fine. -

Problems opening some PDF's with new version of Adobe Reader X
Ever since the latest update for adobe reader has come out I have been unable to open some PDF's. This was never an issue with the older version. When I try to open certain PDF's the reader says "Not Responding" and nothing happens. This does not happen on all PDF's, just some.
Ditto on Darrenz16's problem. New WIN7-64 Home Premiun system with Adobe Reader 10.1.2. Reads several files, then starts locking up when I try opening new files. Seems like Reader is failing to release some resource and eventually running out of whatever it is. Rebooting seems to help temporarily. Never had this problem on previous systems. A set of good examples are the .pdf files at the bottom of this page: http://www.hussman.net/weeklyMarketComment.html
I can open a few, but then Reader locks up trying to download the files. -
Captivate Facing Problem - Opening a PDF
Hi,
I am using Captivate 4.0. I have developed a course which has a link to open a PDF file.
I have created a link and also I am able to open the PDF, but the problem is it is opening in a new browser window. I want the PDF to open in a new tab in the same parent window.
Pl. help me in resolving this issue
ThanksThere is no way to do that from within Captivate so you can only open it as a new window.
If I am not mistaken there is a new property in CSS3 that allows you to open a new tab, but this would require that you have pretty good experience with writing HTML, CSS and JavaScript to make it work. You could then write a JavaScript function that will open your PDF and in Captivate have a button that calls that JavaScript function when the user clicks on it.
It would be a lot of trouble just to get a new tab though and you should also keep in mind that this would fail in all non-CSS3 compliant browsers.

Problem opening downloaded PDF files
When I click on a PDF link in Safari, I would normally expect the document to open with Acrobat 7.0.
What is happening now, is that the screen changes to 'browse' option asking me to identify which application will open the PDF. When I click on Acrobat 7.0, the screen goes blank.
So, basically, I can't open downloaded PDFs from Safari, (though it's Ok with Opera, Firefox etc)
In the Acrobat prefs, in the internet settings, 'Display PDF in browser using: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional (7.0.0)' is checked.
Mac Power PC, 2G RAM, OSX 10.4.11; Safari 3.2.1, Acrobat 7.0.0Do you have more that one version of Acrobat or reader loaded?
Only one is certified to work at a time. -
Problems opening, inserting PDF files
I have a user (Windows 7, Acrobat Standard 10.1.8) who is unable to see files when trying to open files from within Acrobat or insert files to an existing PDF document. If they go to the file outside of Acrobat they can open the file. If they open Acrobat first and then go to File > Open no files show up in the window. Same for inserting files. If they try to insert a PDF into an existing PDF the window shows no files, no matter if PDF files or All Files are selected.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat and that corrected the problem for a day. I have installed all updates so not sure what the problem is.Sounds like the OS is doing something. Next time try a repair instead of the reinstall. If the repair does the job, it is a lot faster until you can trace down the problem.
When it happens, does a reboot make a difference? -
Hello,
I have received an offer regarding some real estate plans from Sternon Intercity but i can't open the pdf. As I was told, there are some large pictures there, can that be the problem? It just says corrupt file and nothing else happens. Does anyone have a clue what i should do about that?
Many thanks,
TaylorIf I understand you correctly, I would say you have a file associations problem.Unfortunately, I don't know how to correct this in Wndows, but similar questions have been posted many times.
And next time you have a new question, open a new thread for it.
