Indices and performance

Hi there,
I'm trying to get a better performace with indices. I read about them that they help to find the in the where-clausel referenced record(s). For read-only you get better performance, for writing its worse because of the needed actualisation.
But when I have something like an UPDATE with WHERE clausel, is it better or worth or the same with indices? Like that:
UPDATE adresses SET name='Mueller' WHERE name = 'Müller';with an Index of adresses.name
Thanks for replies!
~Mel

If you have an index on name, performance will be better. Even though your update will have to do index maintainence, it will not have to scan the full table looking for the rows to update. So, the trade off of a little bit of index maintainence can be far outweighed by the performance gain in finding the data.
Generally, if you are doing singleton DML, then a bit of index maintainence will likely not be felt by the end user.
Now, things can change quite a bit for bulk DML, such as when loading a data warehouse. Also, there can be significant performance impact if the column you are updating is referenced by the foreign keys of other tables.

  • Time and Performance warranty

    Hi
I want to assign both time and performance warranty to equipment for that i created master warranty and assigned counter to that.
my warranty is working fine when i assigned time and performane warranty seperately ie. start and end warranty for time or only start date with master warranty .
But i want to assign both at same time ie start and end time with master warrant for performance but its not allowing.
so can anyone tell me how to assign both.

    Hi Shailendra,
There are time-dependent and performance-dependent warranty counters:
If the indicator for time-dependence is set in Customizing, then the warranty counter is time-dependent. In this case, you must create a characteristic of the same name, which has a unit of the u201Ctimeu201D dimension, in the class system.
The system can use this to determine from the warranty start date and the value that was stored in the master warranty for this counter, whether the counter check is still valid for the key date.
If the indicator for time-dependence is not set in Customizing, then the warranty counter is performance-dependent.
    check
spro >>> Plant Maintenance and Customer Service>>>> Master Data in Plant Maintenance and Customer Service>>>>Basic Settings>>>Warranties>>>>Define Warranty Counters.

How to Generate 250 Users N-way IM Conference using Lync 2013 Stress and Performance Tool.
Please Let know the configurations to generate the XMLs. We are not able to create more than 70 users N-way IM conference though during configuration, we opted for 300 users conference for Large Conference (in custom setting).
The tool somehow does not create the number of participants as indicated. Is there any way to troubleshoot why it's not generating the expected load.

    Hi,
Would you please elaborate more about your Lync environment?
Please check if you meet the following configuration requirements:

  • Discontinuation indicator and follow up material.

    Hi,
I am facing the strange issue for which i need your expertise. The requirement is like:
    1. "X" material is discontinued and "Y" is as follow-up in two plants A & B. Discontinaution group and follow-up group has also been assigned in the BOM.
    2. Now The client want to reverse the settings . means "Y" should be discontinued and "X" should be follow-up in both plants A & B.
Now I have removed the discontinuation indicator and follow up material from "X" in both plants. But when I am going to discontinue the "Y" material and putting " X" as a follow-up material, The system is giving the message "The specified follow-up material results in recursiveness
    Message no. M3609
    Diagnosis
You have entered a follow-up material. However, the BOM explosion for the follow-up material leads to the discontinued material, resulting in unpermissible recursiveness.
    Procedure
Enter another follow-up material or cancel the entry.
Please suggest me where I am missing in my settings and what is the reason for this message.
    Regards
    Deepak Sharma

    Dear ,
    Check the following  :
1.Validity of the Bill Of Material or any deletion flag is set in the present BOM.
2.Please check the following SAP notes :

  • Forms and Reports: Automated Test tools - functionality AND performance

    All,
    I'm looking to get a few leads on an automated test tools that may be used to validate Oracle forms and reports (see my software configuration below). I'm looking for tools that can automate both functional tests and performance. By this I mean;
    Functional Testing:
    * Use of shortcut keys
    * Navigation between fields
    * Screen organisation (filed locations)
    * Exercise forms validation (bad input values)
    * Provide values to forms and simulate user commit, and go and verify database state is as expected
    Performance Testing:
    * carry out tests for fixed user load
    * carry out tests for scaled step increase in user load
    * automated collection of log files and metrics during test
    So far I have:
    http://www.neotys.com/
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Mathew Butler
    Configuration:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux x86-64 architecture v4.5 64 bit
    Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 ( with patch 10.1.2.3 )
Oracle Developer Suite (Oracle Forms and Reports) V10.1.2.0.2 ( with patch 10.1.2.3 )
    Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.17 or later
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 6

are there any tools for doing this activity like oracle recommended tools?
Your question is unclear.  As IK mentioned, the only tool you need is a new version of Oracle Forms/Reports.  Open your v10 modules in a v11 Builder and select Save.  You now have a v11 module.  Doing a "Compile All PL/SQL" before saving is a good idea, but not required.  The Builders and utilites provided with the version 11 installation are the only supported tools for upgrading your application.  If you are trying to do the conversion of many Forms files in a scripted manner, you can use the Forms compiler in a script.  Generating new "X" files will also update the source modules (fmb, mmb, pll).  See MyOracleSupport Note 955143.1
Also included in the installation in the Forms Migration Assistant.  Although it is more useful to people coming from older versions, it can also be used to move from v10 to 11.  It allows you to select more than one file at a time.  Documentation for this utility can be found in the Forms Upgrade Guide.

  • ASO MDX member formula and performance

    Hi,
I am doing some testing about MDX formulas and performance. I found a performance issue but I can not understand why is taking so long time a report.
    The situation is:
I create a report or a MDX query with:
6 dimensions in row and 1 dimension in column
    rows:
Period - Filtered using a member
Year - Filtered using a member
Relationship Manager - Filtered using a member
Report Type - Filtered using a member
Local Relationship Manager - 4400 members level 0
Global Relationship Manager - 10400 members level 0
    Column:
    Account dimension, only a member
The member selected for Report Type (RM.Local) has a formula
My Report Type dimension has 10 members, there is one member where I store data called : RM.Input
    My first test was
RM.Local his formula is [RM.Input] , the report is run in 1 second
RM.Local his formula is ([RM.Input],[MTD]) where MTD is a member level 0 store in my view dimension. The report run in 20 minutes. I was not expecting so bad performance when I only pointing at [RM.Input],[MTD]
Do you consider this time is reasonable when I am using this formula?
    The mdx report is:
    With
set [_Local Relationship Manager3] as 'Descendants([All Local Relationship Managers], 2)' = level 0 members
set [_Global Relationship Manager4] as '[Global Relationship Manager].Generations(4).members' = level 0 members
    set [_Period0] as '{[Period].[Oct]}'
    set [_Relationship Manager4] as '{[Relationship Manager].[Dummy1)]}'
    set [_Report Type0] as '{[Report Type].[RM.Local]}'
    set [_Year2] as '{[Year].[FY-2013]}'
    select
    { [Account].[Expenses]
    } on columns,
    NON EMPTY {crossjoin({[_Local Relationship Manager3]},crossjoin({[_Global Relationship Manager4]},crossjoin({[_Period0]},crossjoin({[_Relationship Manager4]},crossjoin({[_Report Type0]},{[_Year2]})))))} properties MEMBER_NAME, GEN_NUMBER, [Global Relationship Manager].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Global Relationship Manager].[Memnor], [Local Relationship Manager].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Local Relationship Manager].[Memnor], [Relationship Manager].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Relationship Manager].[Memnor], [Period].[Default], [Report Type].[Default], [Year].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Year].[Memnor] on rows
    from [DICISRM.DICISRM]

    Ok Try this one
But here you have to change the MDX formula every month.
    Year
    --FY2009
    --FY2010
    --FY2011
    --FY2012
    Period
    --TotalYear
    ----Qtr1
    -------Jan
    -------Feb
    -------Mar
Let say if you're CurrentYear  is FY2011 and you're Current Month is March then you're MDX will be
    case when contains([Year].CurrentMember,MemberRange([FY2009],[FY2010])) and contains([Period].CurrentMember,MemberRange([Jan],[Feb]))
    Then
    B
    else
    C
    end
For the Next month you just have to make a change in the MemberRange I.e.,(Replace Feb with Mar)
    *case when contains([Year].CurrentMember,MemberRange([FY2009],[FY2010])) and contains([Period].CurrentMember,MemberRange([Jan],[Mar]))*
    Then
    B
    else
    C
    end
I tested it and Its working fine.
I think this will solve you're problem but there might be a more elegant solution out there.
    Regards,
    RSG

  • How can I optimize my hard disk drive usage and performance in Windows 8 or Windows 7?

QuestionHow can I optimize my hard disk drive usage and performance in Windows 8 or Windows 7?
AnswerThere are a few simple steps you can take to ensure your hard disk drive is used optimally.
    Use Toshiba HDD Protection
Many Toshiba laptops come with a program called Toshiba HDD Protection pre-installed. This program helps to protect your hard disk drive from being damaged due to falls or impacts. By default, it should already be enabled. You might be tempted to lower the detection levels in this application, but doing so could cause your hard disk drive to be damaged. Remember that while the application can reduce the chance of damage, you should still avoid allowing the laptop to fall or suffer rapid impacts.
For more information on this utility, see the following article:
    TOSHIBA HDD Protection
    Optimize the drive
Windows 8 and Windows 7 optimize hard disk drives automatically through a process called defragmentation. Unless you've disabled this, you don't need to do anything. If you have disabled this and want to run the process, you can still do so.
In Windows 8, search for "Defrag" at the Windows Start screen and select "Defragment and optimize your drives."
In Windows 7, search for "Defrag" in the Start Menu's search field and select "Disk defragmenter."
You can use this tool to optimize your hard disk drives, allowing Windows to find needed files faster.
    Remove items from startup
Some applications run automatically when Windows starts. This can add additional functionality, but it also decreases the performance of your computer. Sometimes you might want to disable certain programs from starting automatically.
In Windows 8, search for "Task Manager" at the Start screen. Select the "Startup" tab. Select an application you'd like to disable from starting automatically and then click the "Disable" button in the lower-right.
In Windows 7, type "msconfig" in the Start Menu's search field and press ENTER. Uncheck the boxes next to applications you'd like to disable from starting automatically.
You should be sure of the purpose of an application before disabling it from starting automatically. Some applications might be important. If in doubt, you might consider searching on the Web to discover more information about a program. Remember that if you find that you disabled something vital, you can always re-enable it.
For more information, please see the following video:

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications.  I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone.  I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups.  I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either.  Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

  • Important!! Improve the life and performance of the battery.

Reduce the operating temperature and increase battery life
The battery in your notebook PC is designed to provide the necessary amount of energy for the processor while maintaining HP high safety standards. As a result, the battery may not charge or may stop providing power to the notebook when the battery temperature exceeds the specified, design safety level.
If the battery life appears shorter than normal, the battery stops charging before it is 99%-100% full and the battery appears warmer than usual, the battery has most likely reached its designed "no charge" safety state. The battery will no longer charge until the temperature condition is corrected.
Try one of the following methods to correct the battery temperature:
When charging the battery, do not use applications that require large amounts of system resources such as graphic or memory intensive applications, heavy and extended hard drive usage.
Turn off your notebook and remove the battery to allow it to return to a safe operating temperature.
Make sure the notebook PC is operating on a hard surface. Using the Notebook PC on a bed or sofa may block the vents causing the notebook PC to heat up and shut down.
By taking these steps, the battery will return to its normal operating temperature range and continue to charge and discharge as designed.
Calibrating the battery while PC not in use
Recalibrating the battery requires a cycle of a complete charge and a complete discharge. To recalibrate the battery while using the PC is not is use complete the following steps.
The recalibration may take 1-5 hours depending on the age of the battery and the configuration of the notebook PC you own. The PC should not be used while you perform the following steps. Completing all the following steps will also calibrate the battery so that the power meter readings are accurate.
    Shut down the notebook PC
Connect the AC Adapter to the notebook PC and to an electrical socket.
Charge the Notebook PC until the Battery Charge light is Green. This indicates the battery is completely charged.
Press and release the Power Button to start the computer.
Press the F8 key several times when the HP Logo displays.
When the Windows Advanced Startup Menu displays, select the Startup in Safe Mode option.
Remove the AC power adapter from the notebook PC.
Allow the battery to discharge completely until the notebook PC turns off.
The battery is now calibrated and the battery level reading on the power meter is now accurate.
If you are not using the notebook regularly then please unplug the AC adapter and shut down the notebook. By following these practices will improve the life and performance of the battery. Here is a quick list of Do's and Don'ts for the care of your Li-On batteries:
    Do's
When you receive a new Notebook or Tablet PC, leave the battery to fully charge overnight.
Condition a new battery by using it until it is fully discharged, and then re-charge it fully. Doing this once a month will help to accurately calibrate your battery.
Always ensure the battery is recharged as soon as possible after it becomes fully discharged. A battery will be permanently damaged if left for an extended length of time in a fully discharged state.
Remember that a Lithium-Ion battery will slowly deteriorate; a new battery will always perform better than one that is 6-months old.
Remember that the battery half-life is rated for a certain total number of charge/discharge cycles (see your User Manual or Quick Start Guide for the rating). For example, a battery that is rated for 3 hours and 500 charge/discharge cycles, will still be considered as within specification, even if it only lasts for 1 hour 45 minutes after 500 charge/discharge cycles.
Heat is the worst enemy of a battery. Allow plenty of air to circulate around the Notebook/Tablet PC, so that the battery is kept as cool as possible when charging and also when in use. If provided, use the integrated 'legs' under the Notebook to raise the notebook and improve air circulation.
Remove the battery if storing for several months (the battery should be at approximately 50% charge or higher).
If you use a NoteBus or if charging your Notebooks or Tablet PCs in a confined space, allow for adequate ventilation in order to keep the batteries as cool as possible.
    Don'ts
Do Not - Expose the battery to excessive heat or cold (i.e. outside the range of 10-35 degrees Centigrade ambient).
Do Not - Store the battery in a fully charged state (store batteries with about 50% charge).
Do Not - Allow a nearly flat battery to be unused for more than a month or so. The battery will slowly discharge until it becomes fully discharged and this will permanently damage the battery cells.
Do Not - Charge your Notebook/Tablet PC inside a carry case - the battery may overheat.
Do Not - Charge your Notebook/Tablet PC when stacked on top of each other - the battery may overheat.
Remember: Your battery is slowly degrading all the time, even if it is not used. Keeping your battery as cool as possible will slow down this degradation considerably.

  • READ_TEXT IN FORM AND PERFORM

    Hi all.
I have an issue in Scripts.
we are using standard program as print progarm and a zform as form.
we want to print some text in themain window of the form.
for that one I created a new progarm for form and perform.
in taht form i am using this function module read_text to read the text.
i sending all this text to an internal table.
    up to thuis ok...
While the data transfering from form to perform (i.e to the form(script)) only the last line of the internal table is transfering.
and i declared the exporting TABLE OF TYPE ITCSY.
CAN ANY BODY HELP TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE,
    THANKS IN ADVANCE,
    rEGARDS,
    ESWAR.M

    Hi venkat,
    1. while calling subroutines from sapscripts,
    there is a special technique,
which has got its own limitations.
    2.
    FORM abc
    TABLES
    in_tab STRUCTURE itcsy
    out_tab STRUCTURE itcsy.
    ENDFORM.
    3. The perform in se38 program should be of the
    above format only.
4.<b> We cannot pass internal tables.</b>
    5. Rather we need to pass
    VARIABLE NAME
    VARIABLE VALUE
(see the structure of itcsy in se11)
    6. In this form, we have to read
    the internal table in_tab
to capture the variable name and its value.
    7. Similary, to return the values,
we have to put one record (for each variable)
    in out_tab.

  • Cache and performance issue in browsing SSAS cube using Excel for first time

    Hello Group Members,
I am facing a cache and performance issue for the first time, when I try to open a SSAS cube connection using Excel (using Data tab  -> From Other Sources --> From Analysis Services) after daily cube refresh. In end users
system (8 GB RAM), for the first time, it takes 10 minutes to open the cube. From next run onwards, its open up quickly within 10 secs.
We have daily ETL process running in high end servers. The configuration of dedicated SSAS cube server is 8 core, 64GB RAM. In total we have 4 cubes - out of which for 3 is full cube refresh and 1 is incremental refresh. We have seen after
daily cube refresh, it takes 10 odd minutes to open the cube in end users system. From next time onwards, it opens up really fast with 10 secs. After cube refresh, in server systems (16 GB RAM), it takes 2 odd minutes to open the cube.
Is there, any way we could reduce the time taken for first attempt ?
    Best Regards, Arka Mitra.

    Thanks Richard and Charlie,
We have implemented the solution/suggestions in our DEV environment and we have seen a definite improvement. We are waiting this to be deployed in UAT environment to note down the actual performance and time improvement while browsing the cube for the
first time after daily cube refresh.
    Guys,
This is what we have done:
We have 4 cube databases and each cube db has 1-8 cubes.
    1. We are doing daily cube refresh using SQL jobs as follows:
    <Batch xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine">
    <Parallel>
    <Process xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:ddl2="http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine/2" xmlns:ddl2_2="http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine/2/2" xmlns:ddl100_100="http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2008/engine/100/100" xmlns:ddl200="http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2010/engine/200" xmlns:ddl200_200="http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2010/engine/200/200">
    <Object>
    <DatabaseID>FINANCE CUBES</DatabaseID>
    </Object>
    <Type>ProcessFull</Type>
    <WriteBackTableCreation>UseExisting</WriteBackTableCreation>
    </Process>
    </Parallel>
    </Batch>
    2. Next we are creating a separate SQL job (Cache Warming - Profitability Analysis) for cube cache warming for each single cube in each cube db like:
CREATE CACHE FOR [Profit Analysis] AS
    {[Measures].members}
    *[TIME].[FINANCIAL QUARTER].[FINANCIAL QUARTER]
    3. Finally after each cube refresh step, we are creating a new step of type T-SQL where we are calling these individual steps:
    EXEC dbo.sp_start_job N'Cache Warming - Profit Analysis';
    GO
I will update the post after I receive the actual im[provement from UAT/ Production environment.
    Best Regards, Arka Mitra.

  • Tax indicator and code

    hi,
1 may i know what is the difference between tax indicator and tax code?
2 in purchase info record, it has tax code in purch org data tab. what is the difference of this tax code defined and the tax code in miro?
3 if i enter the tax code which is different from PIR during miro, what will happen?
    thanks

    Hi,
1 may i know what is the difference between tax indicator and tax code?
For procedure TAXINJ, Tax is calculated based on conditions in the taxcode. Tax indicator is used to determine the taxes for vendor & plant
For procedure TAXINN, Tax is calculated based on conditon records. Here the tax code is used only to trigger the tax calculations.
2 in purchase info record, it has tax code in purch org data tab. what is the difference of this tax code defined and the tax code in miro?
    Both are same.
3 if i enter the tax code which is different from PIR during miro, what will happen?
If you are using the TAXINJ, taxes are calculated based on the conditions present in the tax code.
For TAXINN, tax code will not play any role as taxes are calculated based on condition records.

  • Business Intelligence and performance point problem

    Hi Everyone,
Please does anyone know why creating a dashboard from a Sharepoint list is such a hassle. I have configured performance point services, a secure store and a business intelligent website that has a data connection library and  Performance Point content
list . Unfortunately anytime I try to use dashboard designer to create a new data source and specify the site settings(using unattended account method) I can't save it. It gives me an error claiming that I either don't have permissions or the data source
    doesn't exist.
A search around the web for answers doesn't seems to solve my problem as it suggests that the problem is associate with many things which I'm not clear about. Please could someone who is good at this at least tell me the critical things to check and the
clearest way to set this up.
    Thanks,
    Dominic

    Hi Dominic,
According to your error " I either don't have permissions or the data source doesn't exist", it should be related to the unattended account permission.
Once the unattended service account has been configured, you must grant that account access to your data sources:
For SQL Server data, the account must have a SQL logon with db_datareader permissions on each database that you want to access.
For SQL Server Analysis Services data, the account must have read access to the cube or an appropriate portion of the cube, depending on your needs.
For Excel Services data, the account must have access to the Excel workbook in a SharePoint document library.
For data in a SharePoint list, the account must have read access to the list.
