Indirect advertising in iBooks

Looking for opinions,  I have a few websites which offer memorabilia items.
The book.. if it ever sees daylight in the store... is a photo book(s) content is car racing in the UK  during the 1970s.  I have a page with images  of posters, photo prints, mugs T shirts and DVD's   and a link to a website.
I  know other photo  books have links to  websites,   will having  "product"  images  invoke a rejection??
If so,, pressumably  a text block stating items  are available and a web link may be accepted.
Has anybody  any experience of this??
TIA

oops! yes scrolling works if I first scroll down and then up. thanks

  • How long does it take to get approved to sell iBooks through iTunes Connect?

    Hi,
I have applied to sell iBooks through iTunes Connect. After asking for my Legal Entity, Tax ID, etc, it said my application was sent and is being processed. That was about 3 weeks ago. I haven't heard anything since. I'm wondering if there's a status page or something to see if it's still processing. I tried to email [email protected] to ask what was taking so long and haven't had any response. I'm just hoping I get something worked out by the end of two more weeks. I have a show I'm going to and I really wanted to advertise this iBook.

I finally received an email saying I'm activated! (after 4 months!). I guess it's just when they've gotten around to it

  • Legal worries with iBooks Author

    Hi,
I saw the advertisement for iBooks Author and it works perfectly for my situation as a writer.  This will be my first book ever and I was amazed by the possibility of using pictures in the text.  My only concern with it is in terms of copy rights.  Based on the video it looks I can use pictures from my profile and post them in the book which is great, but how about pictures I might need from Internet?  How Apple makes things legal in terms of the usage of text, pictures or any other material from the web?  Do I need to have a lawyer from my side when I publish my book?  Does Apple offer legal support if a copy right issue is questioned?  These are my worries.
    I will appreciate your responses.
    Thanks,
    Heriberto

Existing, applicable copyright law would apply to any content used in your book. If you do not own the rights to a content item, you must obtain the proper license and permission to use it. Apple cannot cure this on your behalf. If you intend to profit from any content which is not your own, I recommend the consultation of a licensed attorney with knowledge of contracts and the applicable copyright law, as the ramifications of any missteps elevate quickly at that point. Note that I am not an attorney, and with this reply do not pretend or intend to give legal advice.

  • Replacing an ibook screen

My ibook took a tumble the other night off a couch and hit backend screen first (like the apple on the outside of the screen hit first) and destroyed the screen. it is now white, most of the LCD display is up towards the top of the monitor and the only way I can use it is to plug in an external monitor.
I called my local mac shop, and they suggested it would be 2200.00 to replace the screen. Then said it would be cheaper to buy a new one than to replace the screen.
Is this true? I can see the screen being expensive to replace, but actually more than replacing the ibook itself?
Anyone have any background on this? I cant believe that basically my ibook is done and my only real option is to buy a new one.
    Thanks
    Brian

I'm in a similar situation as the original poster. I saw someone advertising an iBook G4 800MHz screen from a computer with a bad logic board. Are there differences between that screen and the one that came with the iBook G4 1.2GHz?

  • Will Apple allow you to advertise related PRINTED books in the back of your iBooks Author eBook?

I know from reading somewhere that Apple will not allow you to advertise for competing format eBooks inside an iBook Author created eBook. That if you do this, your eBook will be rejected. HOWEVER, will they allow an author to advertise related theme PRINT books? I'm revising an already published eBook and the author has requested that we advertise 2 of his books that are available as print only (not ebook) editions in the back matter. Anyone know for sure?

  • IBooks must not contain marketing materials or advertisements except as part of a catalog

What is the real deal with Apple not allowing you to promote products that tie in with your brand in the ibooks? I am getting halted for promoting other products within my brand?
    Thanks for any insight.

I promote my own list of books and have links to all my websites which relate to the books content.
I do not have problems from Apple.
I would have problems if I included an advert or promotion for Android products or a Jeep or any other motor vehicle .....which could infer you gained payment or favour in return. Ditto any product where it is obviously more advert than content related. This could be exempt IF the "banned" content related directly to your content.
Apple have Newsstand and allows magazines,  newspapers etc full of adverts.
If you take time to study what is and is not allowed, and create your books to Apples stipulations...you don't have problems.  If what you want is not allowed, then you either accept the rules and create accordingly or look at other publishing outlets such as Blurb etc.

    Hi,
the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support  (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).

  • Where can I download an older version of ibooks for my 2nd gen touch?

My Ipod touch crashed, then when I tried to restore from a back up it said the back up was corrupt!
I now have no way of reading any of my books.
When I move my books from Itunes to my ipod I get a message telling me that I must install Ibooks to read any of my books. But as I have a 2nd gen Ipod i cannot download the new ibooks
Is there anyway I can download an old version of Ibooks or use another app to read them? I have tried installing kindle and stanza but they require a newer IOS.
I have installed ereader but it can't locate any books in my library...
I'm more than a little annoyed! Can someone help?

Well, when I pay several hundred dollars for something, I expect to be able to use it for more than a couple years.
Your iPod stopped working, did it?
and no, my 2nd gen iPod does NOT do anything even close to what it did when I bought it.
I don't believe that for an instant. List one thing that your iPod was advertised or otherwise promised by Apple to do when you bought it that it doesn't do now. And I don't mean apps that you failed to download when they were issued in a version that would run on iOS 4.2.1 and that now require a newer version of iOS.
In any case, if you're that unhappy, go buy an Android device, then. But I suggest you price them out first. You may find that they're really not cheaper, particularly if you want to keep up with anything like current Android releases. I doubt anyone here really cares if you find some other product you think suits you better.

  • IBooks display differences between iOS7 and iOS8

I work for a music publisher where we build reflowable ePubs that mostly contain music and embedded audio/video files. It is critical that we deliver an eBook that keeps a/v controllers with the title, credits, music etc. and maintains proper spacing throughout. It's critical not only for the overall look but for the readability and usability of the musician. Clearly a user can increase the font size and destroy any well designed layout for ePub, but if the ePub is designed properly, targeting median font settings, our layouts are consistent from tablet to tablet.
The recent release of iOS 8 has brought changes to iBooks once again and how it displays content. I've noticed differences with A/V controllers displaying more margin, troubles controlling the alignment and overall width of player. I've also noticed additional margin at the top of each "page" in iBooks which wasn't there in iOS 7.
These changes may seem minor but they completely break our layouts. I have been trying to correct these issues using CSS, but haven't had any luck. What's even more frustrating is that iBooks for Mac on Mavericks doesn't have these issues. In fact, the audio controller has a completely different look and responds to CSS as it should. These small issues are causing major problems for us because we have thousands of ePubs with audio at Apple.
We've seen changes in the past with our ePubs when iOS 6 went to 7, so we were expecting things like this to happen. But because our CSS modifications don't seem to work on the iOS side, I'm beginning to think that this is a bug or that there are new issues to contend with when developing ePubs for iBooks. If there have been changes, it would be great to have specs from Apple that would help identify what is happening within iBooks. It would also be great to have development tools for iBooks like there are for all modern browsers today.
If anyone knows anything about these issues or has information as to where I can find the answers, I would be most grateful.

This has been my headache since day one and a complete swing and a miss by Apple.  I haven't been able to get ANYTHING I have not explicitely purchased from iTunes to sync in iBooks across device.
For example:  If I load an ePub or PDF into iTunes and "manually" add to a device, this works just fine.
However, if I open a PDF file on my iPhone into iBooks, it doesn't show up in any of my other devices, including the new iBooks on my iMac with Maverick.  it doesn't matter which device it's added, nothing syncs if it's not purchased from iTunes.
Please, someone make me a liar and tell me I've completely missed something.
Apple:  Why or why can't I add PDF files to iBooks on my iMac and have them automagically show up in the collection I created on all my devices?  Because I didn't purchase them from you, you say?  Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Then don't let me add it in the first place and stop advertising "my content anywhere on any device" because this has been broken from day one.

  • IBook G4 Display Problem

I am having a display problem that looks exactly like the video link below:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFzfdq3xMrI
What could be the cause of the problem?
    Some possibilities:
If the display cable, how can this be replaced without taking the whole thing apart - is there a simpler way?
If a video card heatsink problem, is this an easy fix?
    Many Thanks.

This appears to be a continuation of an issue you noted in September, as the
display had some problems then and after trying a few things, it seemed to be
    stable at the time.
Perhaps the components involved with the iBook then are behind this problem.
Does not seem any easy path could be available to fix the problem, since the
parts most likely to be affecting or contributing to the symptom are deep enough
into the computer to require tedious disassembly effort. And odd screw locations.
Looking into the iFixit guide for iBook G4 12" 800MHz to 1.2GHz series build:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iBook_G4_12%22_800_MHz-1.2_GHz these
items may be weak or failing: the inverter, inverter/airport cables, and there
may be an indirect issue with the data display cable as they get bent & can
fail. The rolling & flickering image may be the inverter, but there are a few
components that essentially are not replaceable on the logic board that can
be the cause of display failure when these other items have not failed.
And a failing graphic processor or overheating may be contributory causes to
the symptoms. A complete diagnostic test, probably beyond most AASPs interest
may be required to troubleshoot the device accurately. So many don't want to fix
the older hardware, perhaps they're fearful of someone not willing to pay a lot to
have an older machine repaired. Hard to say...
You may need to enlist the aid of a specialist who restores and refurbishes
Apple portable computers and who has sufficient facilities to repair almost
everything in most any of these computer models... wegenermedia.com.
Since they have devised methods to fix these correctly & more efficiently
that may be a way to go. To call them &/or email after looking at their web
site can be helpful to discuss the matter and their processes of repair, etc.
Sorry to not be of much help, but in the process of locating correct service
and repair, you may also consider obtaining a second iBook or something
that can run the software of that vintage, to extend the usefulness of it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • IBook G3 Mac OS 9 Problems

I bought an old iBook G3 laptop computer from someone on ebay and there's a few problems. The hard drive had less space than advertised so I bought an internal hard drive and my uncle installed it for me. That hard drive had 9.2.2 installed on it but when the computer is all booted up, the screen is cropped and there are black edges sticking out for an inch and a half all around (see picture link:
    http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/icycool7227/P1010883.jpg
I also tried reinstalling 9.2.2 on it but the CDs both say it cannot run on this machine. I tried both a white disc with the orange 9 on it (9.2.1 software) and a gray Power Mac G4 Mac OS 9.2.2 Install. Formatting the hard drive didn't work either. Are the screens for iBook G3 supposed to be like this? What CD works here?

...for a 9.2.2 CD that is gray and says eMac Mac OS 9 Install but the seller describes it as not being compatib. with iBook G3 16V RAM or later. 200722397183. So that must not be it correct?
That is not it. The OS 9 (and maybe OS X) install disks that come with a machine are usually specific to that model, meaning the necessary files for models with different hardware are not available to the installer.
...is advertised as Mac OS X 10.1.2 & 9.2.2 together. Item #: 160749654458. Is that it?
    No.
Your iBook originally came with OS X 10.2.1 and OS 9.2.2.
A disk set with OS X 10.1.2 is for either an iMac (Flat Panel) (the original model in that series) or a G4 QuickSilver (the original model in the QS series).

I cannot block some advertisements in the journal De Telegraaf, in The Netherlands. When I move the mouse to blokkeren (Dutch) this blokkeren disappers. How to solve it? edit

You cannot boot an iBook from an external USB drive--only a firewire drive. Actually, the drive is just a drive--it is the enclosure that determines USB vs. FireWire. If you could find an appropriate firewire enclosure, you could remove the drive from the USB enclosure and place it in a firewire enclosure and then be able to boot from that. Or you could just purchase an external firewire drive if those are available where you are.
FireWire external drives are quite useful. One option would be to mount the external drive on the good iBook, format it properly for OS X with Disk Utility, and then use a program like Super Duper to make an exact clone of your internal hard drive. This is a popular way of backing up your stuff. You can boot from either the internal or the external. This means that if your internal hard drive were to die, you would have all your stuff on the external, and could run off of that. Since you are already using the USB for backup, it would probably be best to acquire a new firewire drive for troubleshooting and testing if you decide to go this route, since you really don't want to lose your existing backup.
If you did have a bootable clone, you could see if the sick iBook would boot from it or not. However, it may be more productive to pursue your other thread about the boot problem. I see that Richard has joined the thread as I had hoped he would. He actually works on iBooks and is very knowledgeable.
Also, if you do get the second ibook working and want to install OS9, you might want to post a question in the "Mac OS X v 10.3 Panther and earlier" forum. I'm not up on this myself, but I believe there is something about installing OS 9 drivers while formating or something like that. I believe the smart guys on that forum could give you some guidance so that you can avoid the problems you encountered earlier.
    Good luck!

  • 12" 1.33Ghz iBook Hard Drive speed?

    hey all,
i'm curious to know if any of you have ended up w/ 5400rpm drives in your 12" 1.33Ghz iBooks. i know of a couple ppl on a diff forum who got stock iBooks and for whatever reason they got 5400rpm 40GB drives. offhand i know there's very little price difference between the 4200 and 5400 drives, so maybe apple is just streamlining their supply line? i'm just wondering if this drive speed is common for the latest revision of the 12" iBooks even tho it isn't something they advertise on the iBook page.
    thanks

The hard drive is not a user-installable part. You would void your warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan to open the iBook and install a drive yourself. Since you can't buy a bare hard drive from Apple, they won't install one you've purchased somewhere else. An Apple Authorized Service Provider could install a new hard drive for you, though, without voiding your warranty.
Apple buys hard drives on the open market. If the 4,200RPM drives become constrained, they may find some 5,400RPM drives for a good price and install those for a while. Since the hard drive speed is not specified at the online Apple store, the included component can vary.
I would ask you why, exactly, you would consider the increased cost to upgrade a hard drive like this? I can edit DV and author DVDs with the 80GB 4,200RPM drive in my 1GHz G4 PowerBook. I've NEVER had an issue with my hard drive doing these kinds of operations. You should have a very good user experience with your 4,200RPM hard drive.
