Indirectly connecting to internet
A couple of days ago I received a new laptop from my work ( unfortunately a Dell , but at least it was for free...) and to my surprise it had a wireless card in it. So after a short while I got it connected to my Airport Express base station. But the problem is that I can't get it connected to the internet, see my setup below:
Printer Web/MailServer
| |
Laptop --- Airport Expr --- iMacG5 --- Router --- adslmodem --- internet
| <10.0. range><192.168. range>
Stereo/HiFi
(note that my AE and iMac are connected through air, not by cable)
I've tried various options, but they all seem to fail. I've tried to enable internet sharing on my Mac, but then my Airport connection fails. Enabling internet forwarding on the AE didn't work either... Does someone know if this is even possible to work? Or does it only work when the internet connection is directly places in the ethernetport on my AE?
I agree with Magpie - you can solve this entire mess by spending $30-60 on a wireless router to replace your existing router. Everything - the laptop, the iMac, and the Airport Express - would then be configured to join the wireless network created by the wireless router you buy. Simple, elegant, and the way it is supposed to be done.
The problem with your current setup - you have two separate network segments:
- your Airport Express is acting as the Base station, and your iMac G5 and laptop are clients on its wireless network
- your iMac G5 and its cabled connection to the internet
There is no way to configure the iMac G5 to bridge these two network segments such that the laptop could get internet access with this configuration.
You could reconfigure your network so that the iMac functioned as a "software base station" with both the Airport Express and laptop configured as wireless client to the iMac "software base station". Your internet connection would then pass through two "routers" on its way to the laptop - once via the cabled router, a second time via the iMac "software base station". The thought of setting that up and troubleshooting it gives me a headache already. Not recommended.

This might be one of the more confusing and less than clear questions I have come across here. I don't use gnome or really any of this software that you use. But from what I can decipher above, you seem to have two problems.
First, it is not connecting consistently. In order to fix this, you reinstall the software? Am I reading that right?
Second, once you do get a connection, you experience a kernel panic? This is where the kernel has an oops and cannot recover, so it dumps its contents/errors to the screen. Is this what is happening?
Basically, you need to be more clear about what you are experiencing. It would seem that English is not your first language, but that should not stop you from at least phrasing your question in a way that says more than "I click this" and "I click that". Have you checked your logs at all to see if there is anything revealing there?
hi
thank you for answer
you said right and i so sorry for it; i'm from iran and my first language is persian(farsi)
weak document and support for my language Caused to i come there

also i tried to make a connection via below link but i unsuccess because it not compatible with my arch

How do I connect to internet with vz access manager for iphone 4S?
I have VZ Access Manager on my laptop and want to use it to connect to internet on my new iphone 4S. How do I do this?
If you can set up an Ad Hoc wireless network from your laptop, you could use it that way. Once again VZ Access Manager will not enter into the sharing part.
Plug these search terms into Google:
set up an ad hoc network
You'll find lots of instructions.
Best of luck. -

Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).
If you will be using more than one Wi-Fi base station, it may be helpful to read the article Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations.

Safari is not working on the Mac. Internet is fine. mail, App Store etc all working and connecting to Internet fine. Done the latest software update, still not working. When selecting a web address from bookmarks or typing in search bar, partial blue bar only and coloured wheel appears.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

Message was edited by: BlackmanIts a late response... but if someone gets the same issue here is the solution.
When you register try uppercase password . That should take care of that issue.
The problem is with function module CRM_ISA_IUSER_SWITCH , Note 946536.
Although the note says 5.0 the problem exists with ISA 4.0 too -

just got a new ipad2...recognizes wifi network at home, but can't connect to internet...help???
I just had a similar problem. Both the ipad 1 and ipad 2 in my household quit connecting to the network even though it seemed to recognize it. if you think it is recognizing your network, just not connecting, check to see if bluetooth is turned on. i had to turn bluetooth off and then manually enter the DNS number.
My solution also came after I re-started my network and reset all the settings on the ipad2. The DNS number then showed along with IP submet Mask and router. I used that dns number to enter into ipad1 after turning bluetooth off on it.
Totally unscientific fix that may have been more coincidental than correct but you might try it. BTW--no idea how bluetooth even got turned on to begin with. -

Unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly on Boot Camp with Windows 7
I recently installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 on my Mac Book Pro with no problems.
A month later, I am unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly.
It states that I am connected to my router.
When I trouble shoot, it cannot find the problem.
My wireless connection and cable connection are fine on the MAC side.
Please help.looks a like a Windows 7 problem. I assume that you can click on the current connection info on the task bar and see a connection to your wireless router? Have you updated your copy of Windows since it was working? I am wondering if it's an update that's applied in Windows which has done something.
