Individual Podcast sync settings

Here's a dilemma: From what I can figure so far, if you choose a Sync option (from the Podcast tab for your iPod when it's connected to iTunes), that option will apply to ALL of the podcasts you are sync-ing to your iPod - whether that's one, several, or all your podcasts. Well, what if you want different sync instructions for different podcasts?
For example, is there a way to have iTunes do the following, all at once, on the same iPod:
Sync "all" episodes from Podcast A
AND
Sync "All New" episodes from Podcasts B and C
Would this require setting up a Smart Playlist for each show, or am I overlooking some other (obvious?) way of achieving separate sync instructions? Anxious for your insights.
Some are Vodcasts that fill up ipod. 4GB Model ipod nano 3rd gen.

Hi,
I was probably less than clear and I'd assumed you would have your iPod configured a particular way.
When you connect your iPod I would recommend you make sure there is a tick in the check-box on the Summary tab that reads "Sync only checked songs and videos". This allows you to manually exclude individual files from the iPod (too big, incompatible or you just don't want them) while generally letting everything else get synced. Some of the podcasts I subscribe to come with occasional video episodes that are not iPod-freindly. To avoid getting error messages when I sync I simply uncheck these specific episodes.
Using this method you would elect to sync all episodes of selected podcasts and then manually uncheck certain episodes in the main Podcast source to reclaim space on the iPod.
The second idea which I mooted earlier is probably best explained with an example. I subscribe to the "In Our Time" podcast which recently had series of episodes on Darwin. I just created a smart playlist with the rule "Podcast is true AND Name contains Darwin" which matched just these episodes. On the iPod/Music tab I put a check mark against this playlist, on the iPod/Podcast tab I removed the check for "In Our Time" and then I synced. Once sycned the podcasts menu of my iPod reports just the four selected episodes of "In Our Time" that match the smart playlist criteria.
This gives you the option to create a tailored set of rules to determine exactly which episodes of any given podcast series you would like to have synced to the your iPod.

  • Sync settings for podcasts.

Hi. Could someone please tell me the correct sync settings for podcasts. I listen to them on the iPhone and when I sync, instead of deleting they are all marked as unread. Should I sync "all" (assuming that between the iPhone and the iMac, they will sort out has been read), "unread" so that only the unread ones are left untouched, or "new" so the previous ones are left untouched and marked as unread. I sometimes have quite a backlog and it is a drag going through them all to find the ones that I have already heard.
    Thanks.

I just deleted on the iPhone some of the ones I had heard. I then did a sync and lo and behold, the episodes were back on the iPhone.
So, I understand this is not a two-way sync. The iMac copies to the iPhone and any intervention on the phone does not seem to make a difference.
My setting in itunes are default setting for all podcasts (keep all unplayed episodes).
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you

Contacts and calender you can put on icloud then sync to your new phone when its setup to the icloud account. Not sure so with emails.

  • Clicking on the "i" button at the end of the description of individual podcasts crashes iTunes every time.

I recently updated to version 10.5.1.42, after being seriously out of date ( I'm pretty sure I was running 9.0.1). The new version runs OK except for crashing every time I click on the little "i" button where the description of individual podcasts gets truncated. I get the "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close message" and the option to send an error message to Uncle Bill Gates - like he actually cares about compatibility issues with an Apple product!!
The "i" button isn't the single most important feature of iTunes, but it is sometimes useful and I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered and fixed this. I'm running XP, service pack 3 and hoping to hang on to it for a while. Yeah, I'm old and resistant to change, but I realize that you have to give in and update eventually or your stuff stops working. So I'm hoping that this isn't about XP, but if it is, I guess I'll just have to live without the "i" feature.
Something that might possibly be relevant to this issue: I did go in and roll back to my previous video driver after, I'm told, the iTunes update installed its own and screwed with all my other settings elsewhere in my system: made my desktop icons much bigger, changed the font in my Gmail account, etc. This happened last time I updated iTunes a couple of years back and was the reason I resisted updating since then. This is also the reason I have not tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Thought I'd try this post first and see if anyone had an answer.
    Thanks

    Simple solution... don't do that.
Check for Windows Updates, most likely the system is missing one or several.

  • Why is it so chaotic to Sync Settings between apps of Adobe CC 2014? (and to transfer settings from CC to CC 2014)

Although, in general I'm a big fan of the Adobe Products and the CC Idea, I think that some parts of it were not ready for launch.
The part that mostly disturbs me is the settings syncing / Update. (Or "Seamless Update")
    Concerning the updates:
I had own workspace in all the CC Adobe Apps, the only CC 2014 App that imported the previous settings in the new app at the first start was Photoshop.
Indesign made it through the Edit => Migrate previous local settings
Illustrator by copying the settings files manually
in Dreamweaver and Flash I had to recreate the workspace manually (which finally took less time then trying  to sync settings.)
So long for the Seamless update that wasn't so seamless.
    Concerning the settings syncing
Why could'nt adobe have the settings syncing working the same way in all it's CC 2014 applications? ( File Menu on PC / The Name of the App Menu on Mac => Sync Settings, upload or download settigns; done!)
    Instead (on mac) :
In Photoshop: Photoshop => my account name => upload and download settings ( and no way to import settings from previous version )
In Illustrator: Illustrator => my account name => Sync Settings ( and I cannot import settings from the previous version, only from the same version )
in Indesign: Indesign => my account name => Sync Settings ( and the only CC 2014 App where the "Migrate previous local settings" function is working )
in Dreamweaver => my account name => Sync Settings and a button on the far right of the upper toolbar (and no way to import previous version's local settings)
in Flash => my account name => Sync Settings and a button on the far right of the upper toolbar (and no way to import previous version's local settings)
in Premiere Pro => my account name => Sync Settings with the possibility to clear settings and to use settings from a different account
Appart from that update and syncing chaos, the syncing between two computers simply doesn't seem to work ( at least for me).
I have a computer at work and a laptop at home and I'd like to have the same workspace in my apps at home as at work for occasional home working.
I created and configured my custom workspaces on the mac at work and then synced settings (respectively uploaded them in Photoshop). I had cleared all the saved settings from the Creative Cloud online account first.
I arrived at home, tried to sync settings but no workspace was implemented. (and before you ask, yes i had checked that the workspaces should be synced and that, on the laptop at home, the cloud settings should be applied.)
After few tryings I gave up and ended up recreating my setings on both machine. Frankly I don't know why the sync settings are for, since they just don't seem to work.
I really think you should rethink this feature: make it simpler, working THE SAME WAY in all Adobe apps, and, well, just working!
I'd just like to log into creative cloud an any computer, sync settings, and be able to use my custom created workspace.
I posted this in the Cloud Forum since, in my opinion, the settings syncing is a cloud matter and not a matter of each app individually.

  • Changing sync settings erases iPod contents

When I upgraded to iTunes 7 the following problem came with it:
    Choose my sync settings
    Click Apply
Wait for hours as my entire music library (50GB) syncs to my iPod.
Change a syn setting (for example, choose to just sync one playlist instead of all playlists)
    Click Apply
The contents of the iPod are wiped, and ONLY the stuff I changed gets synced across to it!!
This still happens with 7.0.1. Anyone know what the problem is?
It would seem that iTunes 7 is one of the worst pieces of software ever released by Apple. I also get the usual freezes that others get amongst other bugs. Given that I'm using an 80GB iPod & a Macbook Pro it would seem that their testing didn't extend very far!

Yes, this is a TERRIBLE problem! I have two computers: one is a laptop where I don't want lots of music cluttering the drive, and one is the desktop iMac which keeps my library. BUT some days I'm working only on my laptop, and want to download a podcast onto the iPod. Two problems:
    1. On first run, the default is to "Sync" everything, and there's no way to change the setting until the iPod is plugged in. (This problem is not new to iTunes 7, IIRC.)
    2. Apparently now "Sync" means sync, but "Not sync" means ERASE EVERYTHING -- not "hands off". When I plug into the laptop (with its essentials-only music library), I don't want to Sync my music library. But even LESS do I want to ERASE everything. What were the programmers thinking?
The second problem is an amplified problem of an earlier one: it used to be that if I unchecked a podcast or a *photo folder* from a list of otherwise auto-sync stuff, that kind of podcast (or folder of photos) would disappear. So, my solution was to turn off auto-sync altogether, and drag my laptop's new podcasts over one by one so as not to lose other podcasts. That was workable. But now, I can't make my iTunes handle things manually at all, apparently?

  • How to sync settings across a team?

Our shop has a team creative cloud membership. I can't seem to get the sync settings feature to work.
The computers I'm trying this on are all PCs (mixed windows 7 and 8) and the Individual team members are signed in. (These are seperate logins that are part of a single team.)
In particular, I'm trying to sync up Illustrator (CC ver. 17) workspaces and swatches. I click "Sync Setings Now" in the preferences panel, it seems to "think" for a couple seconds. After that I check the workspaces on the individual computers and none of them have any work spaces from any other computers.
I'm not the team administrator; I don't know if that matters or not.

Thanks Steve. I figured that was probably the case once I saw the promo video that specifically mentions team-syncing capability for the Adobe web-oriented programs. That's disapointing for sure. So far it appears as though the only real advantage to a team subscription for a standard printing company like us is consolidated billing.
As for the export/import method, does anyone know if there is one location that should be used as a master?
    I'm seeing 2:
    C/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Ilustrator CC (64 Bit)/Presets/en US
    C/Users/-user-/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Ilustrator 17 Settings/en US/x64

  • Sync Settings & Destinations

    Hello Forum!
Not sure about all of you, but we have several machines, that all use compressor very heavily. We have many custom settings & destinations that we copy to each machine, but when one changes, (FTP site changes, video size, watermarks ect..) we then have to update the settings on each individual machine!
Has anyone successfully used a server to share out these settings & presets?
We've tried to use dropbox, by adding an alias where the settings & destinations are kept, but compressor ignores the alias and loads up without any of the custom settings.
hopefully we can find a solution, quite a pain to update each machine individually...

  • ITunes looses photo sync settings for Apple TV (1st gen.)

Since the update to the new Photo app on my Mac, iTunes forgets the photo sync settings for my Apple TV (1st. generation, 160 GB HDD).
Every time I open the photo section of the Apple TV sync settings, all the options are turned off. Then I mark a couple of albums and sync the Apple TV >> all album appear on the Apple TV.
But after closing and re-opening iTunes in the photo settings everything is unmarked again. So on every following sync the photos on the Apple TV are easily erased :-( Resync them to the Apple TV takes hours (>30'000 photos!).
All the other sync settings in iTunes remain intact.
    Environment:
    - MacBook Pro Retina 15" with the latest SW (Mac OS, iTunes, Photo App, etc.)
    - Apple TV 1st gen 160 GB HDD

Restarting iTunes resolves the issue in the majority of cases, if it doesn't my second guess would be your security software.
What really seems strange here is that there have been no updates since well before Xmas, so after initially setting it up, the first update would have brought you right up to the most recent (and indeed the very last) .
Agh, how silly of me, I see it's iTunes you have updated.
If that's about all you've changed, you might want to try reinstalling iTunes and bonjour.

  • Retrieving Missing Sync Settings When Upgrading From an Older Version of Firefox to the latest version.

I initially set up my Sync account using an add-on for an older version of Firefox and have since upgraded to the latest version. But now my browser acts as if I don't have a sync account set up at all. When I attempt to create a new account, it says that my email address is already being used which tells me that my sync information is still on the the servers. So how do I retrieve my sync settings when settings are missing within my browser?

I resolved the problem in Snow Leopard by logging out of my (admin) account and logging into my daughter's account on the same machine. She doesn't have admin privileges, so when I tried to install Firefox 4 in her account, I had to authenticate with my admin identity and PW. Installation went smoothly after that. My guess is that you could also simply create a new account on the same machine and install Firefox 4 from that. I have no idea why this works.

At the top right there is a button with three squares & two arrows facing in opposite directions. This is the "More Settings" section. Press this option and it iwill open a list. Near the bottom of the list turn on sync and the emails will update.

  • Podcast syncing & Podcast cover view in iTunes 11

    Hello,
One of the features for iTunes 11 was podcast syncing. It was supposed to sync what podcasts you had between your computers and mobile devices, and also sync position. Was quite looking forward to this feature. Where is it and how do you make it work ? There is no cloud symbol beside Podcasts, was the feature dropped ?
Also I quite like the new Album cover view for Music, is it possible to get that for Podcasts ?
    Thanks.

Ah you can get the nice Album view for podcasts. Create a smart playlist which adds all podcasts ("is kind podcast"). Select Music > Playlist. Select the smart playlist on the left. Gives you nice album view for podcasts. Also in the new mini viewer you can choose between podcasts in the pop up list.
    No podcast syncing yet though.
Also it would be nice if you could force permanent cover art for podcasts. So many are missing even though they have a cover in iTunes.
