Individual product silent installations

Hi,
I work at a university, and there are a number of departments that make use of adobe software, ranging from the master disk cs5.5 to just photoshop cs4.
My problem is that with the deployment solution we are using, we are trying to limit the number of installtions put together, and have then as generic as possible.
The idea was to package the individual programs into silent installtions, but that brought a new problem, the download for acrobat x pro for example, works with a stand alone volume license key, but it wont work with the volume license key for the master disk.
Is there a way to install the programs as individual packages and to also make them use any of the legal keys at the university?

Don't think so. Each installer is signed with its own set of cryptographic keys and therefore will only accept serial numbers applicable to these keys. Same for the licensing system and activation. Perhaps you're trying to over-optimize this too much. Most companies I've worked at/ with regarding this stuff simply install a huge master image and then run config scrripts to remove the start menu items or block executables based on group policies and all that, so users don't get confused. Yes, it wastes a lot of disk space and yes it bloats the registry, but it usually is not a problem, as this stuff is tested and optimized quite a bit beforehand...

• Silent Installation for OUI Product

I'm trying to do silent installation for Oracle RCU Client by
setup.exe -responseFile "C:\Kapil\Recording\RCU Installer\Disk1\stage\Response\oracle.as.repcu.rcu.rsp" -silent -nowelcome
it starts the Installation in GUI Mode & opens the welcome page
Is anything need to be changed in response file, as i have set ORACLE_HOME="C:\oracle\product\11.1.1\rcuHome_1" and ORACLE_BASE="C:\oracle\product\11.1.1\rcuHome_1"
there are 3 response files present in Stage/Response folder,
oracle.as.repcu.rcu.rsp,
oracle.as.schema.version.Custom.rsp,
oracle.as.upgrade.Complete.rsp
i don't know which one to change ? For testing purpose i have changed & set the ORACLE_HOME & ORACLE_BASE but nothing works out.
Please suggest apart from these values which i have set in response file, anything else do i need to set other values.
Also it's not prerequisite to setup RCU Client in silent mode. Please suggest if some other oracle product (OUI based) can be setup in silent mode. I'm doing for testing purpose to run the silent based installation...
Thanks in advance

• Silent installation for FMW products command prompt stuck!!

Hi All,
I am working on silent installation of Oracle FMW components, I am using the response file approach and Oracle Universal Installer. The aim is to integrate these installation commands to continuous integration tools like Jenkins/ControlTier.
When the installation finishes, the current shell still holds the prompt. I need to press ENTER to get out. The problem If I integrate them with this tools their flow does not end up, as command prompt does not return. In addition to that I need the returned execution status (echo $?) for evaluating the process.
I have tried launching it in background but did not work, any ideas ?
They say, silent does not require user interaction still we have to press ENTER to exit the console (silent + GUI).
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance,

• How to rollback the oracle silent installation

Hello Guys!
i have one simple question related to the Oracle silent installation.
I implemented embedded installation of Oracle in silent mode for my product.
But i want to implement the rollback feature, i mean it should be possible to interrupt silent installation of Oracle s\w and it should be implemented in correct way. All installed files services should be removed, cleared all registry keys, cleared the inventory information etc.
So if someone knows anything how to perform this functionality it will be great help for me. I see only two ways:
1. To write something into the input stream of the process, like "stop", "cancel" ...
Maybe it is funny idea
2. The second way to perform termination of process and clear all information in scripts, but this is waste of time and may cause some addional errors at execution.
3. So if you can help me thanks in advance
Alex

Hello Nicolas!
yes you are very close to the theme. I used this codes but it is not what i am looking for now. I'll try to explain:
---------------------------------------- xx% ---------------------------------------
| Oracle Installer is strated | ---------------> | Oracle istallation is done |
---------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------
| |
| |
| to interrupt installation
| |
|______________|
go to the same state as before installation
Thus do you know the best way how to implement this process:
1. To interrupt silent installation of Oracle
2. Rollback all changes made by interrupted setup program(some files are installed etc, but i don't need them since i had interrupted the installation process)
So thanks for your answer
Alex

• Behavior of silent installer not completely specified

On page 3 of the "Adobe AIR 1.5 Runtime Redistribution Instructions" under "Silent installation" states in part:
The AIR application installer installs the correct version of Adobe AIR on the target computer, as required by the AIR application to be installed. For example, if the AIR application to be installed requires the AIR 1.1 runtime, and the end user’s computer has only AIR 1.0 installed (or no version of AIR installed), the installation process installs the AIR 1.1 runtime along with the AIR application.
and then:
To install or update the runtime only, use the -silent option without specifying a path or any other options.
However, the instruction do not specify what happens in the following case:
+ The -silent option is used to update the runtime only.
+ The user already has a newer version of AIR on his/her computer than what is about to be installed.
What happens in this case? Does the installer:
A) Do nothing and exit successfully?
B) Downgrade the user's installed AIR version?
C) Exit with an error code, message, or dialog?
D) Something else??

When a newer version of the runtime is already installed, the installer (running in silent mode) does nothing and exits.
Note that to install Adobe AIR silently, you must contact Adobe and request an Adobe AIR runtime redistribution license. It sounds like you have already done this, Paul, but I just want others to know. Here are details:

• Integration 10g silent installation will not install WebLogic Workshop

Hello,
I am attempting a silent installation, using wli10gR3_win32.exe. I have created a silent.xml using the information on this page: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13214_01/wli/docs85/install/silent.html.
I have used that page in the past to successfully create silent installations for versions 8 and 9 of Weblogic, but for version 10g it is not quite working as advertised. I have not found instructions for a silent installation for 10g.
My silent.xml file contains the following line:
<data-value name="COMPONENT_PATHS" value="WebLogic Server|WebLogic Workshop|WebLogic Integration|WebLogic Portal" />
When I run the package with this line, an error is produced in the log file stating that WebLogic Workshop cannot be found.
When I remove the WebLogic Workshop part of the line then Server, Integration, and Portal all install without errors. Unfortunately, Workshop was requested as well.
When I run the installation manually, I am offered Workshop as one of the products.
If somebody can point me to the correct installation documentation or provide the correct syntax for the silent.xml file that would be swell.
thanks.

Hi,
I had faced the same issue today, So I had removed workshop and the installation was successful. But the weird thing is after the installation I could see the "workshop" was installed under BEA_HOME.
Did any one face the same issue?
Thanks.
Vijay Bheemineni.

• Urgent: How to do the Silent Installation for J2RE v1.4.1

Hi guyz,
Can anyone tell me How to perform Silent Installation of J2RE v 1.4.1.
I checked out with J2RE V 1.4.2 which supports Silent mode installation but not JRE 1.4.1
thanks in advance,
Saurabh Bhatnagar

Hi People,
Just found out a site which has information on Silent Installation of JRE 1.4.1 ... but its not a straight fwd one. You need to run the installer atleat once to create a response file which will ecord your actions and you can use it in later installs for a silent installation.
The article says about Slent installation in JRE 1.3 but I just check it ... and it works perfectly with JRE 1.4.1 also.
Here's the link
http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/docs/silent.html
Hope it might of help to some of you ......

• Run a silent installation of Adobe Creative Suite 2.0

When you purchase a volume license for Adobe Creative Suite 2.0, Adobe provides an option that allows you to run a silent installation (that is, an installation with preselected options and no interface) on Windows or Mac OS X. In a silent installation, a custom installer runs the installers for each product in the suite by using command-line installation tools built into the operating. system
Download this file and double-click to extract the Mac_suite_silent_install.sh script. Follow the instructions in document #331297 http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331297.html
to perform a silent installation of Adobe Creative Suite 2.

When you have all your data backed up:
Insert the 10.4 install disk.
Re-boot and hold down the C key.
When the installer loads choose Installer menu > Disk Utility
Select Macintosh HD on the left hand pane. Then click the Erase tab. Select Mac OS Extended with Journalling.
Erase the drive.
Quit Disk Utility.
You are now back in the Installer. Simply follow the onscreen instructions.

• Client 11g silent installation guidance

Hello everyone,
I am just starting my journey into the world of Oracle. Typically it has not been a smooth start hence my post here.
I have been asked to arrange a silent install of the 11g Client (v11.1.0.6.21 specifically) onto a Windows XP machine. I diligently did some reading on the net as there is zero documentation or install media here - just the installation files. I managed to create a response file using "setup.exe -record -destinationFile newbie.rsp", modified some minor settings and tried to:
setup.exe -silent -noconfig -nowait -responsefile "c:\newbie.rsp"
Unfortunately I just cannot get the text-based "Oracle Universal Installer" window to hide during the install, regardless of what I put in the response file. So I am not doing very well on the "silent install" front.
Then I found this thread: Oracle Client 11g Release 2 silent installation.
However the installer I have doesn't seem to have the "save the current session as a record file" option.
So, would someone be kind enough to point me in the direction of some up to date doco I can read please? I am keen to learn all about this but I just can't seem to find a place to start.
Any suggestions are greatly received and appreciated.
Best regards,
Troy

Thanks for the swift response Ansiktet!
+>>There is an default response file provided in the installation directory,+
Great. The only file & folder structure I have starts from:
\install
\access\...
\images\...
\reource\....
access_setup.bat
addLangs.bat
oraparam.ini
oui.exe
unzip.exe
\stage
\Actions\...
\Components\...
\Queries
install1.jar
invDetails.properties
products.xml
shiphomeinfo.properties
shiphomeproperties.xml
setup.exe
I have had a look through and can't find a sample response file. Does this file & folder structure match what you were expecting I should have? And if so, where might I find the sample please?
+>> you can make it easy for you and just edit this one, its quite self-explaining.+
I found a few examples on the net and the "-record" option generated a very nice one for me to start from.
The problem is, regardless of what I put in, the OUI command-line style window always seems to be displayed.
I have put in lines such as:
FROM_LOCATION="\\Software\Apps\Third party\Oracle\Client 11g\stage\products.xml"
ACCEPT_LICENSE_AGREEMENT=true
SHOW_SPLASH_SCREEN=false
SHOW_WELCOME_PAGE=false
SHOW_RELEASE_NOTES=false
SHOW_SUMMARY_PAGE=false
SHOW_CUSTOM_TREE_PAGE=false
SHOW_COMPONENT_LOCATIONS_PAGE=false
SHOW_INSTALL_PROGRESS_PAGE=false
SHOW_REQUIRED_CONFIG_TOOL_PAGE=false
SHOW_CONFIG_TOOL_PAGE=false
+>> Then you run it with the same command you used before.+
The comment in the other thread implied this method has been superceeded. Are you familiar with the newer method and where I might find some doco on it (to educate myself)?
Thanks again,
Troy

• Silent installation fails registering gwab1.ocx file on W7

Silent installation is failing for GroupWise Windows Client 8.0.3 HP2 and HP3 on Windows 7 Sp1.
Problem is very similiar to KB7005755
Support | Silent installation fails registering gwab1.ocx file on Windows 7.
C++ 10 is already installed
I also installed C++ 2005 (version that comes with GroupWise Client)
Install occuring in the following order
WSE3.msi
MSXML.MSI
groupwise.msi
msiexec /i groupwise.msi transform=groupwiseNONotify.mst /passive /L*V c:\gw.log
or via ZCM 11.2 Install MSI
/i "groupwise.msi" /qb /passive
Experiencing same problem whether I run with batch file or ZCM 11.2
User is in the Administer Group. UAC is off.
Transform created using GroupWise 8 Tuner.
Install rolls back after putting GroupWise icon on desktop.
Below is an extraction from the verbose msi log:

I tried the following:
-Rename WMS.exe to WMS.exe.old to make sure it will not get installed.
-Create an application for CDO and put that application as a pre requisite for Groupwise.
In my task sequence, before groupwise is being installed, the CDO component will get installed first.
In my latest test, the installation of groupwise failed with the same error message then before.
For the installation step, I am using this command line: "WIN32\setup.exe" /s /V"/qn /le C:\Groupwise.log"
The task sequence will download the files into is cache then start the install appending the path to the exe file to the command line. All the files are present in the cache folder.
The VCRedist 2005 is installed prior to the installation by another software but I did made some test that let Groupwise installed is own VCRedist. Still an error message.
The exact error message is: Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\Groupwise\gwab1.ocx failed to register. HRESULT -2147010895. Contact your support personnel.
I am deploying Groupwise during a task sequence on Windows 7 SP1 with IE9 and .Net 4.0 installed with some update. At the moment groupwise is installed as the second software.
The version being installed is gw8.0.3HP3_client_win_multi.
When installing the previous version, using the same exact task sequence, there is no error and the installation is done.
I did validate that the Windows NT Messaging was not installed.
If I can provide any othe information please let me know.
