Individual versus Company listing for Apps

I noticed that some apps have the developer's actual name and other apps have the company's name listed. What is the benefit to listing as an individual as opposed to listing as a company?

When you apply to the Individual Developer Program, you can sign up as a person or as a company - LLC, as an example.
Not sure it's a 'benefit' based decision so much as a business decision/requirement.
One of the technical aspects is that a 'person' (single entity, no company) can't assign Team Members in iTunes Connect.
As for business reasons, those are best put to legal counsel, I believe

Why is there no Favorites list for Apps?

Am I missing something in the App Store or is there not a way to make a "favorites list"? I see so many apps I would like to use or at least read more about and not necessarily download right away. I don't see a way to add an app I like to any sort of list, perhaps an "App Wishlist". When you shop at just about any online store, you are offered the option to "Add item to Wishlist" or "Save for Later". If I have missed something PLEASE let me know!! Otherwise, Apple is a bit behind on this front.

The more users that request a "wish list", the better especially since that feature is already available from the iTunes Store.

How to get my company in the top company list?

Hello all,
My name is there in the top contributor list for Solution Manager. But I can't see my company in the top company list for Solution Manager. I am pretty sure its not because of the points as I myself have more points than some of the companies listed there.
I also checked some previous forum post . As per them, if I maintain my e mail id as my company id and maintain the company name in my profile it should work. But its not working for me. Any idea?

I just checked that you are the second highest contributor to SolMan with 106 points in the last 30 days.
But your company name appears no-where in the top list for that area.
Have you updated your email address to the new corporate one very recently - like yesterday or today?
If yes, then please wait for a day or two.

Migrating from Individual to Company

2-3 weeks ago I emailed devprograms about this, and 2 days ago received the following reply (slightly abbreviated to avoid upsetting anyone at Apple):
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Developer Connection regarding the iPhone Developer Program.
Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your request.
As per your request, we can arrange to switch your current enrollment from Individual to Company.
Please be aware that your access to the iPhone Developer Program Portal will be temporarily disabled while we conduct the migration from an Individual to a Company type
You will still be able to log in to the iPhone Dev Center and have access to all of the Registered iPhone Developer content on the iPhone Dev Center during the migration, but you will not have access to the iPhone Program Portal until the migration to Company type is complete.
Please also not that you may be requested to fax in business documents for your company as well.
If you would like us to migrate your enrollment to a company type then please let us know.

Changing list of apps for Open With

When I select Open With on a .jpg file, there are over 30 applications listed which is really annoying. I can't work out how to edit this list so that only the ones I want to appear do so without having to uninstall any software - it must be stored in the preferences or something but I just can't seem to work it out.
Any help appreciated.

Short of opening up the individual applications and changing a file therein (which I have done, but don't recommend) you cannot change the list. When you start your computer the system goes through the applications you have and queries them, by reading their Info.plist file, about the sorts files the application claims it can open. The system then includes the application in the launch services list for applications that handle those sorts of files. I'm afraid about half the applications in the universe are capable of opening a jpeg, and most say so. So they get listed in Open With, and, if you have a backup drive that includes copies of your applications, those will appear on the list too. I heard that the system isn't supposed to be that thorough, but I've had it list an old, forgotten, application that was buried 6 folders deep, none of the folders being an application folder, on a backup drive...

Hi, I'm trying to use the navfree app on my iphone 4s. it downloads and shows in the list of apps, but when I tryt to get the gps working, following instructions, this app does not show up in the list of location services. When I try to open navfree, it remains on screen for a second then closes. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,

I have the same problem.... and it all started straight after the last and latest ios update. Have done all the resets on the phone.... have just competed a full reset through itunes.... and still it does not work. THe same problem is also happening with some other apps.

Comprehensive list of apps optimized for iOS 8

Does anyone know of a site that is keeping a comprehensive list of apps that are optimized for iOS 8 up to date? Apple's only featuring some of them in the App Store.
I would like to keep an eye on these lists:
- Apps that use PhotoKit or have a photo editing extension
- Apps that offer third-party keyboards
- Apps written in Swift
- Apps optimized for Retina HD displays
- Or even just in general apps that take advantage of any iOS 8 technologies (notification center extensions, share extensions, etc)

The first thing to try is resetting your iPad. HOld down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and then try again.
Then you can try to force close the apps, forcing them to reboot and maybe fixing the issue. Double tap the home button. Flick the preview for all the apps up and off the screen until all you have left is the home page preview. Tap on that then try to reopen your apps again.
The last thing to do is a restore. You back up your device, then erase all content and settings, then restore from the backup you just made. If you've backed everything up you won't lose any data but you give both the apps and the iOS a clean slate.

Individual cell data buttons for each app keep turning on by themselves?

I have a 4S iPhone, OS 7.0.6, and my problem is that the individual cell data buttons for each app keep turning on by themselves. I'll go in and turn them all off and the next time I look (whether in 5 min or 5 hrs) they are all turned back on again? I want to leave my cell data on so that I receive my iMessages but usually don't want everything else turned on until I get to a wifi zone. I used to be able to keep them all off until I did the last couple iOS updates. Help!

It sounds like your cellular data options are not saving correctly. I recommend starting by turning off Cellular Data in Settings first. Then close all the running apps:

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone, turn it back on, and test the issue again:

How to add an app to the 'recommended applications' list for 'open with other' in finder?

How can I add an app to the 'recommended applications' list for 'open with other' in finder?
Specifically, I have Final Draft 8 and Final Draft Tagger 2.
Final Draft Tagger 2 is used to manipulate and create scheduling information for movie scripts written using Final Draft.
It is NOT on the Recommended Applications list when using Finder to open a .fdx file using 'Open with Other'.
I've modified the info.plist for Final Draft Tagger 2 by copying the entry for Final Draft Documents from Final Draft 8 and removing the original entry, which differed. I then rebooted the machine and was saddened because it did not work.

The app is named My Wine. The app crashes every time I try to open one of the cellar databases. The developer says that he posted a fixed version before 3.0 was released yet no release has been made available to the users. I can understand a certain amount of backlog but two weeks for Apple to release a crash bug fix? That really isn't acceptable...

Missing Features, Bugs, and Wish List for Apple Engineers

I LOVE my iPhone. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. The interface is awesome. Great job Apple, but there are missing features and bugs that all of us want updated or wish were added. I know they were probably already thought of by Apple, but in an effort to make the phone perfect removed to make it more stable. Now that it is out lets make it perfect.
This thread will hopefully give you guys guidance from the early adopters who share your love for the phone (and others who want to chime in). I want to separate the list into a few categories and hope everyone will add to this thread with their ideas:
1) BUGS/CHANGES TO EXISTING APPS:
- Period should be in alphabet keyboard (make space smaller) or when you go to symbol keyboard and hit period it should automatically go back to the alphabet keyboard (unless you double click the symbol button which means stay there like caps lock)
- Individual delete (like Mail) of all lists (eg. call list, bookmarks list, history etc.
- Multiple item in a List delete (see below for how to select). This is also so un-Mac like to not be able to select multiple items to delete. It is all or none for clear/delete on the iPhone.
- Implement double finger slide...in maps double finger tap zooms out so the OS recognizes this, why don't you use a double finger drag to mean "select". There is no way to select some words in a sentence or a group of items. This could be how. eg. In a list (eg Mail) double finger slide over items you want to select (instead of singer finger drag which moves the list) then one finger slide to the right to delete the selected items from the list.
- Copy and paste. Since there are no menus this would require a gesture (ala newton)
- when you tap the battery icon it should bring up a battery status dialog (ala wifi join dialog where the screen dims): present charge, big battery icon (like the charging one), time left. In addition, instead of giving battery usage details only after a full charge, give it at any point.
- Since you know that nights and weekends are at set times (and not variable like it was on Sprint where I came from)...the phone usage details should be broken down into: peak minutes used and N+W minutes used (not hard to figure out since you know the time and dates of calls)
- Be able to change font/background etc in Notes app
- faster way to get to favorites in the killer phone app after turning on phone. Just seems like it takes too many taps to get there to make a call on a phone.
2) WISH LIST FOR NEW APPS (apps that can be added with existing hardware, see #3 for other wishes)
- iChat (obvious and probably almost done)
- VOIP (probably not going to happen, and wouldn't work in Europe where I would need it most gven network speeds there)
- Flight tracker widget
- Exchange support (probably in the works)
- Push email from gmail and .Mac (probably in the works)
- Bluetooth sync
- DUN (probably not going to happen since AT+T does not want it)
- Data/File storage with sync
- TODO APP that syncs to to do in iCal
- Ringtones, definitely from songs from iPod side (obvious and coming soon I am sure)
-Search function like spotlight. Global would be awesome, but even just in contacts
3) FUTURE HARDWARE RELATED WISHES (stuff we wish could be in hardware version 1 but know require a version 2):
- GPS
- 3G
- LED that changes color and/or pulses (like MacBooks sleep light) that indicates things (eg charge status, Voice mail status, roaming status etc) without turning on the phone
- Move camera to front to allow video conferencing (I doubt Steve would allow since it would mess up the clean front look)
Well I could go on and will add to this thread later, but I need to go to work to show everyone (and sell more apple stuff since many of my colleagues have been converted to macs). Now, all you pioneers, start adding things to help our beloved phone become better!

I agree with your post! I'm amazed by the simplicity, the screen, and the apps on the iPhone. They all have worked wonderfully for me, with just a few crashes while surfing or loading big email images. (I heard that shutting down the phone and restarting helps that.)
The single flaw for me is that the phone app itself should be primary, with more options (quicker access, unique ringtones, voicedial?) and ease of use. The other applications are so elegant, but I need my phone to be very accessible and practical too.
My wish list:
1) Make it fewer taps to get to the point where you can make a phone call. How about the main button can be programmed to take you wherever you want. I'd choose to go to Phone Favorites, so I could speed dial right away.
2) Be able to set a preference as to what app you're in when you wake up the phone. I'd choose phone keypad, some might choose iCal, etc.
3) Add the period and comma symbols to the alpha keyboard.
4) Allow different ringtones for specific caller ID's.
5) Copy and paste.
V2) With new hardware, add a "back" button to return to prev. screen. It could be small, on the side near volume?

Gouping of Items for APP

I am using APP for making Payment to the vendors.
For APP, I have set the rule for the Minimum Payment Amount of INR 7500 for Payment Method u201CCu201D in FBZP. The u201CSingle Payment for marked itemu201D is not ticked.
Now I have one vendor who has a total debit balance of INR 2000
     AMOUNT     DOCUMENT TYPE
1)     10000 Cr     KR
2)     1000 Cr     KR
3)     3000 Cr     KR (Vendor line item is marked with Payment Method C
4)     11000 Cr     KR
5)     27000 Dr     KG
Total 2000 Dr Balance
Now for APP ,the system groups the items as under
It sums up the items (1) , (2) , (4) AND (5).
The Amount comes to (-10000)(-1000)(-11000)+(27000) = 5000 Dr
As a result no payment is trigerred by APP
However in the above list there is item (3) in case of which the Vendor line item is explicitly marked with the Payment Method u201CCu201D
APP groups it separately and considers the payment of 3000 even if I have set the rule for Minimum Payment of INR 7500 at the Payment Method Level.

Why the system groups the item which is marked with Payment method u201CCu201D separately, despite of the fact that I have not ticked u201CSingle Payment for Marked Itemu201D?
Even if the system treats INR 3000 as separately, then also the Amount is less than INR 7500. So why the system is considering the same for payment when the rule for Minimum Payment of INR 7500 is already set at the Payment Method level?

Are you saying that the indicator for "Individual Payment Tick" in the Vendor Master Data is not selected or you don't see it. When using XK03, you should see it on the screen "Display Vendor: Payment transactions Accounting" in the Automatic payment transactions section.
On that screen the field description states as follows...
Indicator: Pay all items separately ?
If this indicator is set, every customer/vendor open item is paid separately during automatic payment transactions. This means that open items are not grouped together for payment.

Best practices for app store developer download

We use company-owned macs to develop iOS applications. We frequently need to access the app store to download free apps (such as Xcode and competitor's apps), but the developers don't want to enter their personal iTunes credentials on company macs to do this. The company does not want to enter their credit card to create a company-wide iTunes account for fear of weird charges ending up on their card. Furthermore, the reason Apple has logins to the app store is to tailor the experience to the individual, so having a company login for many people does not seem to be the way to go. What is the best practice for this? Does iTunes have an "Organization" level object and that entity can add iTunes users to it like the "Developer Teams" aspect for Apple developers?
